It had been one year and six months since they had been released from prison, and all for good behavior. Mason Wolf, his best friend, Hubert Snake. And the other three members of the Bad Guys, Lou Shark, Tara "Webs" Tarantula, and Pepe Piranha. (They still kept the title, because they thought that they would be more recognized.) And with what the five of them had been through within the last year and six months was bizarre. Having stopped a certain estranged guinea pig from trying to take over the world, the five friends ended up turning themselves in, and ultimately went to prison for all the crimes, and heists that they had pulled off. But due to the friends' good behavior, their sentence ended up being reduced. Upon being released, the five have had been given a fresh restart from the California Governor, Diane Foxington—who just so happened to be the bandit known as the Crimson Paw, even though that part of her life was still kept a secret.

And that "fresh" restart had came to them in the form of her helping them set up a mercenary-styled business. Since the Bad Guys couldn't exactly get jobs, or college degrees for that matter, due to their past crimes. And so far, the reformed criminals had anonymously helped the Golden State Police Department take down a drug trafficking ring by mixing themselves in with the offenders themselves. The leader of the ring had no clue that these five were secretly working—not for the law—but mostly for the people who came to them for help. When the GSPD finally busted the ring, the reformed criminals had already disappeared, and the police were shocked to see the ring leader, and his henchmen tied up in chairs. It was only after one of the GSPD detectives, a coyote by the name of Chad Walker, pieced some of the evidence together that he even knew that it was the Bad Guys that had pulled the stint off on the trafficking ring.

But not to raise tension with the GSPD chief, Misty Luggins, Walker had decided to keep the secret to himself. He was actually impressed by the way the Bad Guys had even pulled something like that off without getting themselves killed by the ring. But there was one person of interest that Walker had in mind, and that person was the leader himself, Mason Wolf. Or more like, according to the police records on him, Ryan Mason Wolf. Walker had thought to himself on one occasion to have the wolf as his civilian informant. Knowing the former criminal's history, the detective meant to pay him and his friends a visit, but with the busy schedule that the GSPD detective had, the coyote never got the chance to meet any of them in person. And speaking of which, the said detective found himself currently sitting in a chair back at his apartment complex. The coyote then closed his eyes as he reflected his mind back six months ago when he first heard the news that the Bad Guys had been released from prison…

Walker had just wrapped things up with the case that he, and his unit just solved. A rather perplexing one, involving the kidnapping of the mayor's son. It would seem that luck was on the coyote cop's side this time, especially with the fact that upon founding the Los Angeles mayor's boy, no harm was done to the child. Walker felt like he could use some quality time alone. But it would seem that fate had something else in mind. As he was about to take a sip of his drink, he saw someone walking into the diner. One glance, and the coyote smiled. He knew now who it was; this one particular person and him went to high school together, and even went to college. And now, his former high school classmate was none other than the newly elected Governor of California, Diane Foxington. The female fox wore a gray blazer, matching trousers, and a white undershirt with a black colored tie. When she looked his way, Walker immediately grabbed a menu pamphlet and pretended that he was deciding on what he wanted to eat. By the time he finally placed the pamphlet down, the GSPD detective had found the Governor sitting on the other side of his table. He flinched at first, then only shook his head and smirked. It was only after taking a drink of his beverage, that Walker finally spoke.

"Well, if it is not my old friend," he said.

At once, both him, and Foxington got out of their seats, stood, and hugged each other, then the two friends sat back down. Chad was the first to spark up a conversation.

"So, life as the Governor. How's that going?"

Diane took off her glasses and sat them on the table beside her.

"There's the advantages, and the disadvantages. Plus, you look like you just ran a marathon. Tough case?"

Walker only nodded his head. "Yes. Did you hear anything about the mayor's son?"

The fox smirked. "Since when do I never hear what goes on here in LA?"

Walker sighed as he gave his long-time friend another smile.

"Kinda thought that you've heard about it already. The team and I found him with the mayor's ex-wife. As if already, his current wife is suggesting for him to press charges against her for kidnapping, and attempted murder of an underage child."

"Good grief," Diane began.

"So first, Maria loses custody of Diego, and then, she kidnaps him, and threatens to kill the poor boy? As if the kid has not been through enough already."

Walker grunted, then spoke again. "I know, right?"

"By the way, you said that you had a private errand to attend to? Whatever happened to that?"

Foxington looked down at her menu pamphlet as she tried not to smile again. Walker sighed upon seeing his classmate from years ago trying not to let out a little laugh. He looked her in the eye.

"You did it, didn't you Diane? You actually went and picked up the Bad Guys from prison earlier today?"

"Come on Chad," she replied. "They're not bad anymore."

"Ha! That's what you say," Walker said.

"As if already, shouldn't you be back at your office, I don't know… attending some meeting? Reading through State Senate bills? Be on the phone with President Grant?"

"Grant is dead," Diane answered mockingly.

Walker laughed. "You know who I'm talking about. Not Ulysses Grant. John C. Grant, his supposed great great-grandson.

"Yes, I know who you're talking about," Diane said, trying her best not to laugh.

"And for the record, just because I'm the Governor doesn't mean that my life has to revolve around politics all the time. And on the plus side, I think you'll like them—that is, once you meet them."

"But they were criminals for crying out loud Diane," Walker protested.

"You know something Chad," Diane spoke.

"It was people just like you that did it for them. Always naming them outlaws. 'Monsters' that shouldn't be treated any better. If you think about it, how did you get the job you're in now, hmm?"

Walker sighed as he looked out the window beside him, and into the busy traffic.

"Don't even go there. Unlike them, I worked my way up the ladder. They didn't have to buy the lies society said about them, but they did anyways. And if I was there the night they tried to take off with the Golden Dolphin, I would have seen to it that they remained in prison for the rest of their days. Plus, don't forget that you were the one who provoked them to do so in the first place."

Diane raised a eyebrow as she looked the GSPD detective in the eye.

"Okay, yes, I did provoke them, and I admit it, I shouldn't have done that. But now, back to you, Mr. Perfect, if it wasn't for ME, you wouldn't be Los Angeles' first-ever coyote cop, let alone, a detective. Whereas Wolf and his friends committed a lot of crimes, you and Luggins failed to catch them, Chad. And for the record, I am glad you weren't there that night."

It was right there when the coyote hung his head in utter shame. Almost immediately, Diane regretted fighting back against him, but at the same time, she needed him to know that he couldn't always judge others just because of the way they were. Walker took a deep breath as he lifted his head up and stared the governor in the eye.

"You did get one thing right. Can we now put this behind us, please?"

Diane only nodded her head. Walker sighed in relief. After taking another drink, he looked out the window again.

"By the way, I heard something from Jordyn about Marmalade not being the Crimson Paw? Is that true?"

Diane could do one or two things; tell her friend that she was the Crimson Paw, and risk having him arrest her. Or two; keep silent about it. After a moment of thinking about it, she decided on option two.

"Come to find out, Marmalade is not the Crimson Paw. But then again, if the bandit is still around, I'm pretty sure that you'll get him."

Walker then gave her a little, cold look. "Is that so?"

Diane took a sip of her water when the waitress came by and placed the cup on the table. Walker was still staring at her with some intent. It took several minutes before either of them spoke to each other again. Afterwards, Walker dropped the look and gave his friend a warm smile as he asked for her to do him a favor.

"Will you do me a favor? The next time you see Wolf, tell him that he's has someone from within the GSPD that would like to talk with him someday. Maybe about reliable informant stuff."

"Wait? You mean, like as in, a civilian informant?" Diane asked.

Walker only nodded his head as he gave her another smile. Diane then gave him an odd look as she put her glasses back on. Then, as the fox took another drink of her water, she smirked.

"How come I never thought of that? Maybe his friends could all be reliable informants for your unit? Just a thoughtful suggestion."

Walker about choked on his tea as he heard what she said. Diane thought that she might have to get out of her seat and do the Heimlich maneuver on her friend. But he raised a hand, as if to deflect the tirade that he didn't need her help.

"Yeah right, good luck on that one." Walker replied, still coughing from him almost choking on his drink.

" With their previous backgrounds, my teammates will not want to associate themselves with the Bad Guys, no offense to you, nor them. As if already, they think that me wanting Wolf as a CI is bad enough for me."

Diane looked downcast as she soaked in every word from her friend.

"Could you convince your team enough that the Bad Guys have changed? I mean, is that not enough for them?"

The GSPD detective stared the governor in the eye.

"Sorry. No can do. I have this coyote who's a part of my unit. And she will not like the fact that my unit and I would ever associate ourselves with Wolf, Snake, Tarantula, Shark, and Piranha. Like I said, she already detests me for wanting Mr. Wolf as a reliable informant. Plus, don't forget the Chief."

Diane raised an eyebrow. "Well, yeah, leave her to me."

"You plan on dealing with the Chief yourself?" Walker questioned.

"I don't know," Diane replied.

Walker about choked on his sweet tea again. "Jordyn Daley's gonna hate you so much."

The detective then grabbed a napkin and wiped his face off.

"I hope you know that Daley voted for you, and after this, she probably won't in the next election. And the reason being, because you thought that it was okay to give second-rate criminals a second chance at life."

"And here you go again Chad!" Diane exclaimed.

"Hey, people are going to hear you," Walker told her.

"I don't care, let them." The governor answered.

Walker sighed again as he took a look out the window. How could deal with someone like his friend, who just so happened to be the governor of California. And he that she was probably thinking the same thing. After a rather, odd moment of silence, Diane spoke up again.

"Plus, you're the one wanting one of them Bad Guys as your own CI, detective."

Walker just wanted to get up and leave the diner, but something kept him there. He didn't know what, but he felt like not answering up to Foxington. Diane waved a hand in front of his face.

"Earth to Chad. Hello?"

Walker finally looked back at her. "I heard what you said. By the way, when is that Winter Gala happening?"

"I think it's this next Friday," Diane answered.

"That's what I figured," Walker said. Then he looked at the time on his phone.

"It's been over an hour since I came here. I have to go and head back to the District and report today's case in to the Superintendent. Or he'll be mad."

"Good luck then detective," Diane told him. "See you at the Gala Friday night?"

"See you then too." Walker replied.

Walker's eyes reopened once he heard his phone go off. He picked it up and answered it at once. After a few minutes, the coyote placed a hand to his forehead.

"Yeah, alright. I'll be down there in ten minutes."

Dig that! How's this for the first chapter? Sorry that this took me quite a while to get out there. Life is kinda busy sometimes, am I right? Plus, I'm trying to update two other stories, so that's one reason why I'm late with this. And yes, I know, I think that I didn't do a great enough job with writing this chapter down. So, if you want, please review, because after all; 1) reviews are my bread and butter; and 2) they are what keep me going.

And another thing; whereas all characters related to The Bad Guys are property of DreamWorks Animations, Chad Walker is my OC. I introduced him into the story as a detective for the Golden State Police Department. He is a coyote, to keep in line with fact that in the movie, the main characters are anthropomorphic animals. If I could, I would get Jesse Lee Soffer to be the voice of Detective Walker. In case if you don't know who Jesse Lee Soffer is, he was the actor who played the detective, Jay Halstead, from the NBC One Chicago show, Chicago P.D. Soffer had recently left the show after ten years of putting on such a great performance as Jay Halstead, and I would just like to wish him the best of luck out there.

Well, I will see you in the next chapter, 'til then, may God bless.

Ciao,

JalcoFox.
