Based off Chapter 1089 cover art request. Nami already has seen the stars, but did she see them alone?
Stargazers
Nami gently placed her pen down and stretched out her arms over her head. It was late in the evening and finally was bale to find time to draw her maps of previous islands herself and the rest of the crew just recently visited. She let out a sigh and then joyfully looked at her draft. She raised the map paper and smiled to herself. It was a quiet evening on the ship, which usually was odd, but for once she had the peace and quiet to work.
She of course didn't mind the noise, despite how grumpy she may sometimes look when her crew was making so much noise. No, the noise gave her indication that her crew was lively. That they were all okay. After what happened in Wano and the rest of their adventures in the New World, she started to appreciate the noise and laughter. It told her that everyone was alright. However, she liked working in mostly silence, with the exception of the flickering flame from the lamp that illuminated her desk and the sounds of waves softly crashing against Sunny.
She placed the map down and stood up from her chair. She had been drawing for two hours or so and needed to take a small walk. So she did and left her room as the chilly air hit her body. Along the way, she stopped and looked up to see the large amount of stars that made up the gorgeous night sky. Her mouth slightly opened in awe. She had seen the stars thousands of times, but never so many at once. She figured it had to be because of their current location and the lack of light from nearby islands helping show her this sight.
She leaned against the railing and placed her head in her hand and just looked up. The soft breeze, the lightened up starry sky and the silence that was brought upon being the only one outside created such a serene experience for her.
She felt a chill as she realized that the breeze got a little colder as her white buttoned up shirt moved with the hand. Nami mentally cursed herself for not remembering to bring something to help her keep warm on her walk and was ready to head to grab something. She wrapped her arms around her and rubbed her shoulders to warm up, but it didn't do much to help. She wanted to keep stargazing, but didn't want to feel uncomfortable while doing so. She was preparing to head back when suddenly she felt something being placed on her shoulders. The first thing she noticed was how warm whatever it was that was placed on her shoulders and turned her head to look at it. It was a black cloak, the same one she remembered a particular person wearing not so long ago.
She then turned her head and saw a familiar toothy grin that could only belong to one person. "Luffy?" She said his name as the Straw Hat wearing Captain hopped onto the railing next to her.
"Whatcha doing, Nami?" He asked her. She looked up at him and stared at his smiling face before closing her eyes and looking back up to the sky.
"Just star gazing." She told him with a smile.
"Oooohhh, shihsihishi." He followed her eyesight and saw the stars that mesmerized his navigator. "Sugoi..." He himself was impressed with the sight. The two stayed quiet and looked up at the night sky, while simply enjoying each others company.
"Thank you..." Nami suddenly after a few minutes of silence.
"Hm? For what?" Luffy asked her, looking down from his seat. She turned her head slightly to look up at him, giving him a warm smile.
"For the cloak, it was getting a bit chilly. So, thank you." Luffy grinned.
"No problem." Luffy was coming back from the kitchen, getting rejected for an evening snack by Sanji, when he saw Nami by the railing staring up at the stars. He had his black cloak on because he liked how cool he looked with it, but when he saw Nami shaking and rubbing her shoulders to warm up, he happily gave the cloak to her. He usually was a little late in realizing when it was cold, but the chilly night was not too bad for him to care about keeping himself warm.
"What were you up to?" Nami asked, striking a conversation with her captain as the two returned to look up at the stars.
"Wanted a snack." Nami chuckled at his simple Luffy like answer.
"Of course." Luffy chuckled along with her.
"Sanji said no and kicked me out so I was heading back." Luffy finished as he pouted.
"Well, if it wasn't for Sanji-kun, we would run out of food for all the times you try to get a snack." Nami retorted.
"Yeah, but when I'm hungry, I eat." Nami rolled her eyes playfully at the logic. "What about you?"
"Was drawing my maps when I wanted to go for a walk to stretch out my tired legs." She told him as he smiled at her.
"I see...I'm happy, Nami." Luffy told her.
"Huh?"
"I'm happy you're working on your dream." Nami smiled.
"Thanks...it's hard to find time to do so with all the noise and chaos we seem to always attract so when I do get a chance to draw them, I take advantage of it." Nami told him.
"Are you almost there?" He asked.
"Hm? Almost where?" She curiously wondered.
"To your dream. Are you almost there?" He clarified as Nami smiled and shook her head.
"Not even close. I want to draw a map of the world and we only seen parts of it. It will take a lot longer to finish. Probably might not happen even after our adventure is over and you become King of the Pirates." She admitted. The world was vast. She had to travel to many places all over the world and no question it would take years to complete, even after they finish their journey. However, she knew that was the case from the very beginning. She was just grateful to be even working on her dream after all those years of running and stealing to save her village.
"I see. Then I'll help you until you finish your dream." He told her and looked up at the sky again.
"Huh?"
"Even after I become King of the Pirates, I'll make sure you accomplish your dream too, Nami. I'll make sure to take you all over the world to do so." He grinned.
"Luffy..." She smiled warmly at him and turned her head to stare at the sky again. "You just want me to stay as your navigator otherwise you'll get lost on your adventures."
"Shishishishi, that, but I really mean it, Nami. I want to help you achieve your dream, just like you're helping mine." Nami smiled.
"I see. Thank you, Luffy. I'll definitely make sure you become the Pirate King too then." He snickered as she soon joined him with giggles of her own.
Suddenly, both managed to catch the sight of a shooting star. Both of their eye's widened and they turned to each other before smiling.
"You know, they say when you see a shooting star, you should make a wish." Nami told him.
"I see...then...I wish for Nami to one day complete her map." Nami was surprised he suddenly blurted out his wish. What warmed her heart was that he wished for her dream to come true. She smiled warmly at him.
"You know, saying your wish out loud won't make it come true." She teased him.
"Ah! I'm sorry, Nami!" He felt a bit of panic rush up his body and she laughed at his reaction. Luffy frowned and was confused.
"W-Why are you laughing?" Luffy tilted his head.
Nami calmed down before looking at Luffy with a smile. "Sorry, I was just teasing. Thank you, Luffy." Luffy eyes widened slightly at the smile she was giving him.
"Shishishi, no problem." Nami grinned and then leaned away from the railing. She clasped her hands together and stretched her arms out in front of her. She let out a groan from her stiff muscles being stretched out before turning around. "Ah, wait, what did you wish for?" Luffy asked as Nami turned her head back.
She winked at him and stuck her tongue out. "Secret." Luffy furrowed his eyebrows and pouted.
"Not fair." She grinned at him before beginning to walk back to her room.
"I'm taking your cloak with me, seems like it'll be a bit chilly tonight." She told him.
"Shishishi, okay! Good luck, Nami!" Nami grabbed the sides of his cloak and pulled them closer to her body as she had a big smile on her face.
"Thank you." Those were the last words she spoke to him before disappearing inside her room. Luffy stared at the door for a bit before looking back at the stars. He suddenly didn't feel hungry anymore.
Nami was working on her map when a cow knocked on her door. She let him in and she could smell the cup of hot milk he was delivering to her. She thanked the cow for the milk, but was also given a piece of paper that was written to her by Sanji. She read it, smiled and chuckled a bit before grabbing a piece of paper and writing an answer back to him.
'Thanks, saw them already – Nami'
She grabbed the cup and watched as the cow left. After a few minutes, she heard a soft disappointed yell from outside, but ignored it as she pulled the black cloak towards her to keep herself warm from the chilly night. She smiled before returning to her map, hoping to at least get one step closer to her dream.
