Kong's New Island Ch. 01
Standing on the edge of a cliff is an enormous ape, bigger than anything ever seen. The ape is covered in brown fur with scratches and scars from many battles that he had won all over his body. A scar over his eye, three clawed marks on his chest, his right arm, left leg, even one going down his back. This monstrous ape is known by the locals as Kong the strongest living creature on Earth.
Kong is watching over his island. The island he vowed to protect with his last breath. It seems like he will stop breathing soon.
The island is sinking into the ocean and there is nothing Kong can do, nothing but stand there, waiting for his inevitable death. Then a flash of light blinds Kong and he blacks out.
.oOo.
When Kong woke up he thought everything was only a dream. He sits up, rubs his hand over his eye, and notices something different. He didn't know what though. Kong examines his hands, but they appear normal to him. When he moves his hands, that is when he notices his five-toed human-like feet. Kong jumps up startled at this sight, wondering what happened to them. He then notices his lack of hair. Looking over himself, trying to find any hair at all. The only hair he found was a little on the top of his head. Without the hair on his body, he could see he his dark skin.
Kong then notices that he is wearing strange human clothes. An unbuttoned orange shirt with white flowers on it and a pair of light brown shorts. The clothing still allows many of his scars to show.
The mighty ape looks around and sees that the trees are much larger than he remembers. The trees seem tropical, but he knows they are not any of his island. The smell of the air is just as different.
That's when Kong catches a familiar scent, turning towards the source, he finds not far from where he was laying, a human. The human is shorter than him and wears dark blue shorts and an unbutton shirt with a yellow shirt underneath it, and this human also has sneakers of the same color of his shorts. The human's hair is also a dark blue color with the hair sticking up in the middle like a small Mohawk.
The human starts waking up. When his eyes open, he has a look that Kong can only guess was the same look he had while examining his body. Then the human notices Kong and stands ready for a fight.
Kong Grunts and asks, "Do you really want to pick another fight with me, Gorosaurus?"
Gorosaurus snarls at him, "As far as I know you're trespassing on my territory."
Kong shakes his head and takes a stance.
Gorosaurus makes the first move jumping at a height far greater than a human is capable of, landing his feet on Kong's chest. Kong is forced back into a couple of trees, knocking them down. He easily gets back up and slams his fists to his chest saying that he will not go down that easy. Gorosaurus jumps up to try the same thing again, but this time Kong grabs him by the ankle and throws him into the nearest tree headfirst. After that, the dinosaurian was incapable of standing back up.
Kong walks up to the former dinosaur, with his fist up ready to finish this. As the great ape swings his fist only to stop just an inch away from the face of a human woman with her eyes closed tight.
This human is wearing a green shirt, a long blue skirt tied around her waist with green flowers on it, and a pair of sandals to match. Her skin appears to be tanned. And she has long blond hair with a white flower in it.
Kong has no idea where she came from. The mighty ape notices that she is shivering with fear, So, he relaxes his fists and puts his arm down.
Gorosaurus notices this and as he manages to stand back up he starts wondering why a human would protect him.
The human opens her eyes and sees that they are no longer fighting.
The woman stutters, "A-aloha, my name is Lily," she sounds rather nervous. The kaiju look at each other then back at her.
Kong notices her light blue eyes. Looking into them, he senses nothing but kindness.
The ape is first to speak. "Hey, I'm Kong," he says rather proudly.
Followed by the dino, "Just call me Goro."
Lily smiles at the two. "Nice to meet you both. If I may ask, why were you fighting?"
Both kaiju thought about how to answer that question. With Kong being the first to answer. "Uh… he started it," Kong points at Goro.
"I did not!" Goro says as he crouches down, ready to attack again and Kong braces for a counter.
Then Lily yells, "Stop"! The monsters turned back to her. "Please don't fight?" And they both calmed down.
Kong rubs the back of his neck as he apologizes, "Sorry."
Goro sighs, "Me to," the two turn away from each other.
Human smiles, "Thank you," and claps her hands together. "Now if I may ask you again why you were fighting?"
Goro glares at the ape, "Let's just say me and Kong never saw eye to eye."
"And why's that?"
Kong huffs, "Maybe it has something to do with these scars?"
The human walks up to Kong and examines the scars. "You did all this?" she looks at Goro.
"No!" he defends then he thought for a moment. "Well, at least not all of them."
The human turns back to the former ape, "Do you always get into fights?"
"I sure do," he tells her proudly, "and I always win."
"Then there's your problem," she scolds. "If you didn't get into fights then you wouldn't have so many scars.
At first, the ape got angry at that remark. Then he felt dumbfounded because she has a point.
Goro starts laughing at him.
Lily snaps at him, "I wouldn't be laughing, Goro. From what I saw you started that fight!" she tells the former dino. "Hawaii is supposed to be a place of peace and relaxation."
Kong furrows his brow and asks, "What's Hawaii?"
Lily looks between the two in confusion, "Do you not know where you are?"
The two kaiju look at each other, shrug and shake their heads.
.oOo.
They arrive at what looks like a small empty neighborhood. All the houses look like they had been through a storm. With holes in the roofs, broken doors, and shattered windows.
The group enters the largest and nicest looking house on the block. The first thing they see is a counter with a computer and a small bell next to it. Behind the desk are several sets of keys on hooks with tags on them.
Goro sees a sign on the wall and is surprised that he can read it. "Here at the Lotus Inn, we treat you like Ohana."
"What's ohana?" Kong asks.
"Ohana is our word for family," Lily answers. "In a sense it's supposed to mean that we would be there for you no matter what. Like family," she smiles. "So, tell me again where are you from?"
Kong answers while reaching for a banana from a fruit bowl on the counter. "It's like we said before, we're from a small island. All we know is that it isn't this Hawaii you speak of," he starts peeling the banana.
Goro jerks a thumb at Kong, "Me and the Big Ape just woke up on this island with no idea as to how we got here."
"And then lizard face here kicked me," Kong growls.
Lily scolds them, "It's not nice to call each other names now apologies."
The two glance at each other before mumbling a small, "Sorry."
"Now that's better. Since it must be your first time here let me welcome you," she tells them before walking away. "The dining room is this way if you would follow me."
When they get there Gorro and Kong take a seat at opposite ends of the table. "I hope you don't mind, all I have is some leftover pizza." Lily tells before leaving the room. After she left the two kaiju just stare at each other for a while before Kong spoke.
"So, any ideas as to why we're human?" Kong asks him, trying to make small talk.
"Not a clue," the dino shrugs. "But I bet Mosura would know. She always knows what it is when it comes down to magical mumbo jumbo."
Kong tilts his head. "What makes you think it has something to do with magic?"
"What else could it be?"
"One of the human's gizmo's,"
Goro laughs, "You really think that the humans are capable of this," he gestures to both of them.
Kong leans forward and begins listing off on his hand. "Flying submarine, Robot Clones, a Space Cannon, and don't even get me started with the rose bush. We've seen them do some pretty weird stuff."
Goro nods his head in agreement before asking his own question, "Do you know what an inn is or pizza?"
"How would I know?"
"You got along better with humans better than I ever did."
Before Kong can deliver a retort, Lily came back with a large plate full of pepperoni pizza. The two kaiju stare at it for a moment unsure of what to do.
"Well?" Lily reaches for a slice. "Eat up."
Kong is the first one to reach for a slice of pizza. Seeing this, Goro decides to copy the ape's actions. At the same time, they take a bite out of their slices. Both enjoyed the taste so much that they could not stop.
Then they come to the last slice. Kong and Goro glare at each other, wanting the other one to stand down. As this was going on, Lily grabs the last slice without them noticing. By the time they did she was already halfway through eating it. The two kaiju just shrug it off and waited for her to finish.
"That was a nice dinner," Kong says after.
"Why thank you Kong," Lily gratefully tells him as she finishes off her slice.
Goro leans back in his seat. "So, exactly what is this place anyway," and put his feet on the table.
"Please take your feet off the table," Lily tells him. He was not going to at first then he saw her giving him a stern glare. Her kind eyes now have a serious look in them. They sent chills down his spine.
"Sorry, ma'am," he does not know why but Goro felt uncomfortable seeing that look in her eyes.
"Thank you," she says with her eyes going back to normal. "This inn used to be my uncle's before he passed," her eyes now sadden. Seeing this Kong reaches over to put his hand on her shoulder.
"Are you alright?" Kong asks.
"I'll be alright," she assures him. "It's just that he passed away a month ago. He was all I had, he left me this place and some money. My uncle cared for the inn almost as much as he cared for me. He wanted me to keep this place running," she stands to walk over to a window to see the empty houses on the street. "In his time, Uncle became wealthy with the inn. It used to be popular before all the other big fancy hotels came along. The other hotels tried to buy it from him, but he wouldn't sell. Uncle wanted the Lotus Inn to remain in the family. He wants me to make this place popular again," she comes back from the window and sat down at the table. "I don't want to disrespect his wishes, but I don't think I can do it. All the money he left is more than enough to fix. But I don't think I can keep this place running all by myself," the human begins to tear up.
Kong then tells her, "Who says you have to do it all by yourself?" Lilly looks up at him. "I mean it looks like all you need is some help, and we're willing to," he crosses his arms.
Goro's head jerks to the ape, "We are?"
Kong glares at him, almost as if to say. If you don't help then I'll rip your jaws off again. Goro did not react to this. He does, however, react to Lily's kind, sad eyes. They were as affective as her serious look. "Okay, I guess I can help around. It's not like I have anything else better to do," he smirks.
"Oh! thank you, both of you. How can I possibly repay you?" she says with glee.
Kong stands up, "How about a place to sleep?"
Lily looks up for a moment to think. "Well, besides my own room, I guess there is one room that can be slept in. It does have two twin-sized beds in it. You can have that one."
"Wait!" shouts Goro. "You mean I'll have to share a room with him!?" and points at the ape.
Kong grins and says, "Don't worry I'm sure I can go one night without trying to smash your skull," knowing this would not make former dinosaur feel better.
Goro's jaw drops down to where it almost hits the table.
Lily claps her hands together, "That's good. Now, if you will follow me I will show you to your room," the human stands and walks out of the room. The kaiju just follows suit.
A few moments later Lily opens a door to a small plain room with a single window that overlooks a nearby beach. As she said, there are two twin sized beds along with two dressers, a coffee table with a lamp, a small TV, and another door that leads to a small bathroom.
"Here is your room," she tells them. "I hope you will enjoy your stay here at the Lotus Inn," she says with a smile. "Oh, before I forget here are the room keys," the woman hands a key with a tag to Kong and another to Goro. "Goodnight," then she leaves the room.
Kong looks over at one of the beds and just picks one to lay down on. Goro goes to the window to close the curtains and lays down on the other bed.
After a while, Goro sighs, "So, do you think you can live like this?" he asks trying to pass the time. "As humans."
The ape turns on his side to face away from the dino, "Only one way to find out."
"Yeah."
Sometime passes and the former dino is almost asleep when he gets startled by a loud roar. Jumping up, Goro searches for the source. When the Leaper hears the roar again. He faces the ape on the bed next to him.
Kong is snoring.
"Aw, man!" Goro falls back into his bed, and he places the pillow over his face. "This is going to be a long night."
.oOo.
The light of the full moon is shining down on the water with the waves pulling back and forth from the beach. There is a couple of teenagers in swimsuits running towards the water. A boy carrying a surfboard in one hand, in the other hand he is pulling a girl along with him.
The boy runs to the surf, "Come on, Allie! The waves are supposed to be rad on a night like this."
"I don't know, Johnny. We're not supposed to be out surfing this late," Allie tells him. She is a bit worried that she will get in trouble. "Besides, you heard drownings," she reminds him.
"Those were just accidents that got turned into rumors."
"Still, Johnny. I'm worried that you might get hurt."
"Don't worry, Allie. You know I'm the best surfer on the island," the boy boasts. Johnny looks back over to Allie and sees that she is terrified to get into the water. "How about you wait here on the beach while I go and catch one wave then we can go back home," he places a hand on her shoulder. "Then I'll treat you to a dinner and a movie tomorrow okay."
Allie gives him a small smile and tells the surfer, "Alright, Johnny. But it's going to be a movie of my choice," and gives Johnny a kiss on the cheek.
The boy yells, "Surf's up!" while running to the water. Johnny swims out into the ocean. Far enough to catch a good wave, but close enough to the shore where Allie can see him.
A large wave came that is much bigger than he was expecting. Johnny starts paddling and jumps up onto his board when the wave gets to him. It looks like he can ride the wave all the way to the shore before the wave starts coming down on him. Just before the wall of water collapses on him, Johnny felt something latching on to his foot and pulls him under the water.
Back on the beach Allie searches for Johnny, worried that he might be hurt. She managed to stay calm until his surfboard came up and Johnny still was not in sight.
She starts hollering, "Johnny! Where are you!?" fearing that the worst has happened.
Johnny finally breaks through the surface of the water and Allie lets out a sigh of relief. Then she notices that he is splashing and yelling.
"Allie, help!" Johnny screams.
"This isn't funny johnny!" she yells back hoping this is just a cruel joke.
"Help, something's got my leg!" Johnny yells again before being pulled back under.
"Johnny!" Allie screams terrified that this would be the last time she would see her boyfriend alive.
NOTE: Here's another Tie-in for Kaiju Fighters. This Kong is a fusion of the one from King Kong vs Godzilla and King Kong Escapes. But for the placement of the scars, I referenced a model of Peter Jackson's King Kong for some of them. I know that neither Toho Kong's had them, but I felt that scars add to the Big Ape's character.
NOTE 2: For anyone wondering about these Tie-ins. I originally had them all as part of the same story. But I started to feel that even though they're connected, so many of them felt so separate from the Main Story. So, I just set them as separate stories overall. They'll occasionally team up in the Main Story and maybe a couple of references. There's one more Tie-in in the works.
