Kong's New Island Ch. 02
The next morning, Kong wakes up from a good night's sleep. He is half hoping that what happened the day before was a dream and half hoping it was not. As soon as he spotted the ceiling, Kong knew it was all real. He sits up on his bed wondering what to do now. Then he hears knocking at the door that managed to startle Goro, making him fall on the floor.
Lily's voice comes from the other side. "Breakfast!" Kong got up and opened the door. Lily comes in pushing a cart with three plates on it and different kinds of food.
"Okay, I wasn't sure what you wanted so I just cooked up about everything I had that is breakfast related," the human tells them while gesturing to the cart. "We have some eggs, bacon, sausage, biscuits and gravy, orange juice, milk, and my favorite blueberry pancakes," after she finished listing off everything that is on the cart she notices where Goro was. "What are you doing down there?"
Goro yawns and tells her, "All I know is that I was on the bed when I finally fell asleep."
"Did you not sleep well last night?"
"Not really. As it turns out, all the thunder heard around the island was him snoring," Goro points a thumb at Kong.
At this, Kong yells, "I don't snore!" Insulted by such accusations.
Lily gives them both the same glare as last night. "Will both of you just calm down." The two kaiju stop and listen. "Good. Now let's just enjoy our breakfast then we can get to work."
Goro looks up at her and asks, "Work?" not sure what she is talking about.
"Well yeah. You two said that you would help me with this place," Lily reminds him. "So, you better eat up because we've a long day ahead of us," she says while holding up a plate of pancakes.
.oOo.
After they finished eating, the trio now stands in front of the main building ready to start. The main building looks like a two-floor house with an attic.
From left to right, Lily is wearing what looks like the same green shirt from yesterday, jeans instead of the skirt, and boots instead of sandals. Goro has a hard hat, safety goggles, and a tool belt around his waist. Kong only has the same shirt and shorts he had the day before.
Goro picks up a hammer, "Well, let's get started."
Lily and Goro are still in front of the building looking at the holes that can be seen on the roof.
Wondering how they were going to get up there, Lily says, "I might have a ladder in the shed." She turned around to head towards the shed when Goro spoke.
"No need for that!" he tells her.
Lily felt air blowing her hair in her face. By the time she moved her hair to look back at Goro who was no longer there.
Then she hears Goro yelling, "Up here!" Lily turns to where his voice was coming from and sees that he is on the roof.
Lily hollers, "How did you get up there!?"
"I jumped!"
The woman just stares at him in disbelief.
Afterwards Lily and Kong are standing in front of an old broken-down truck.
Kong asks Lily, "So, what do you want done with this thing?"
"Uncle's truck doesn't run anymore," Lily tells him, trying to figure out what to do. "I would like to have it moved next to the shed until we have someone to come and see if it can be fixed," as she is saying this, Kong picks up the truck and moves it over to the shed without the human noticing. "We'll have to call in a tow truck to move it tomorrow."
"No need," Kong grunts, standing between the shed and the truck.
Later, Lily is on the roof by herself finishing some hammering. She gets up, takes one step, and falls through the roof. By chance, Goro is just beneath her and manages to catch her in his arms but drops the toolbox he was carrying.
"Nice catch," she thanked him.
Goro just replies with, "It was nothing." Then, they both hear a cracking sound. Looking down where the toolbox fell, they can see that the floor is starting to crumble and then Goro falls through the floor, still holding Lily in his arms.
By luck, Kong was beneath them preparing to bring up some more wood to fix the roof when he catches Goro who is still holding on to Lily.
Kong glares at Goro.
Goro lets out a nervous laugh and found that the only thing he cans say is, "N-nice catch."
It was about an hour before sunset. Lily sees this and decides work was done for the day.
"I think we're finished for today. You guys can go on inside. Help yourselves to some drinks. Oh, and please try not to kill each other while I'm gone," she jokingly tells them while heading for the forest.
Goro asks, "Where are you going, Lily?"
"For my afternoon walk," she answers.
Kong tilts his head, "What for?"
"I don't know really. It just helps me think and it keeps me calm," was all she said before leaving.
When Lily was out of sight, Kong thought about just going inside like she insisted. Instead, he follows her into the woods.
Through the entire walk, Kong kept his distance, hiding in the bushes, swinging from trees. He made sure that Lily does not see him. After a while, Lily had decided to turn back. Kong realizes that he must get back to the Inn before she does. He rushes through the woods following the same exact path he took to get there.
.oOo.
Back at the Inn, Goro is sitting at the table enjoying a nice can of soda when suddenly Kong burst through the door, almost breaking it off its hinges, grabs a banana from the counter, and takes a seat at the table across from Goro.
Then, Lily walks in. "Aloha! You two cause any trouble while you were out?" she jokingly asks.
Kong answers while eating the banana, "Not at all. Did you enjoy your walk?"
"Yes, I did. So, what did you do while I was out?" She looks towards Kong. Goro notices this and sees a look in the former ape's eyes that the Leaper had never seen before. Kong is pleading.
Goro smiles and tells her, "Exactly what we're doing now."
Lily returns the smile, "Well then. How about something for dinner?"
Kong nods, "That be nice. Thank you."
Followed by Goro, "Definitely."
After Lily leaves the room, Kong looks over and mouths something. If Goro did not know any better, he could have sworn the ape said, 'thank you'. It looked like it hurt Kong's pride to say it though.
.oOo.
Over the next few days everyone followed the same routine. Wake up, enjoy breakfast, and work on the inn. And like every day, Lily takes a walk in the woods while Kong follows her.
One day though, the routine is broken.
Lily looks at her friends to tell them, "We need to go into town to pick up supplies and groceries. You two want to come and explore the rest of the island?"
The former kaiju looked at each other not sure if they should, giving their experience.
Goro shrugs, "I guess so, Lily. Be nice to see what else they have here."
"Sure," Kong grunts. "Why not?"
.oOo.
The town is full of people. Natives and tourists alike. The former kaiju were a bit nervous at first before realizing how much they fit in with all the humans. The most looks they got were of amazement from how large Kong was.
Kong and Goro are amazed about all the human stuff. All the stores sell different things, phones, and even ice cream. Goro ran off after he seen a pizza parlor.
Kong just follows Lily everywhere she went, carrying most of the supplies.
As they pass the beach near the docks, they notice people are starting to gather. They are talking about another drowning and how it's the sixth one.
Kong manages to get past the people to get a look at what is going on. He sees the lifeless body of a teenage boy lying there on the sand. The police there keep on telling people that it was just an accident, but Kong knows better. Around the body's arms, legs, and neck, there are round markings that look like something was latching on to him. The Ape knows very well that this drowning was intentional.
.oOo.
After Goro finished eating at the pizza parlor, he goes to visit the other stores.
Just when the former dinosaur decides to go find Lily and Kong, he passes a bench where a girl is crying. Goro could not help but notice her. The girl has short red hair and brown eyes, freckled face, wearing jeans, a red shirt, and black sneakers.
Goro slowly walks up and quietly says, "Hey! Is everything alright?"
She cries, "No, it's not."
Goro sits beside her, "What's wrong?"
"Why should you care?" the girl sniffles. "It's not like you'll believe me anyway."
"I might believe you if you will just tell me," he reassures her.
"Alright," she sighs. "A few nights ago, my boyfriend and I decided to go out on the beach after dark. Johnny heard that during the full moon you can catch the best waves." She looked happy for a moment. Then she starts tearing up again. "I didn't want to go because of the accidental drownings. I stayed on the beach while he went out. After one wave came it looked like he fell into the water. He came up for a moment saying that something was pulling him under. And, and then he…" at that moment she stops talking and started crying again. "You don't believe me do you?"
"Actually," Goro tells her. "I do."
"R-really?" she starts calming down.
"Yeah," he answers. "Hey! I work at an inn not far from here. I have a friend who may be able to help if you come with me."
"Okay, I'm Allie by the way," she sniffles.
"Everyone calls me Goro."
