Kong's New Island Ch. 07
The next day Goro is standing in a clearing, twirling around a stick, practicing his newly discovered talent. However, today he kept on dropping the stick.
Kong's voice catches the former dino's attention, "Something must really be bugging you. Allie already told you that it wasn't your fault."
"Yeah well, I still can't help but feel that I had something to do with it," Goro confesses letting the stick drop to the ground.
Kong lets out a chuckle. "You acting like this because of a girl is just fun to watch."
Goro smirks, "At least I'm able to tell the girl that I like her."
Kong then narrows his brow. "What's that human saying? Touchy."
"Touché," a third voice comes from the edge of the clearing. The man is in his thirties and for Kong and Goro a dead giveaway to who it was is the cigarette.
"Kale?!" Goro says. "How much of that did you hear?"
Kale removes the cigarette from his mouth and releases the smoke his lungs were holding. "As far as anyone's concerned, I heard nothing," he winks telling them that he won't tell. "But Kong is right. The girl doesn't blame you and neither should you."
"If you say so."
A loud explosion rings throughout the area. Looking up, smoke can be seen from above the trees.
"That's coming from the Inn!" Goro yells.
.oOo.
Earlier.
After crying herself to sleep the night before, Allie decided to wander around the Inn. She had been here many times before and even helped with the repairs, but she had nothing else to do. Walking up to the front desk Allie takes notice that one of the room keys is missing.
Looking at the number, Allie goes to get to the bottom of this. Making her way to the building where the room is located and up on the second floor, she reaches the room. The door was left wide open. Not seeing a problem with taking a peek, Allie takes a step in.
Inside the room, Allie saw a box on the bed. The box had an all too familiar label.
EXPLOSIVES
"GET OUT!"she screams instinctively, "THERE'S A BOMB!"then starts running. Allie tried getting out of the blast radius, but it was too late.
.oOo.
By the time Kong, Goro, and Kale reached the Inn, they could see that one of the buildings was on fire. All three brought their attention to a coughing Lily.
"Lily!" Kong heads over to her. "What happened?"
"I was doing a routine inspection in the rooms before opening," she looks up at Goro. "I heard someone screaming. I think it was Allie," looking back at the burning building the tone of her voice turns grim. "She's still in there."
Goro immediately runs into the fire, "Allie!"
Inside, flames are everywhere. The heat alone is slowing Goro down.
"ALLIE!" he hollers hoping to get a response and even when he does not get one he presses forward. The kaiju is so set on finding her that he had not noticed that the ceiling was about to cave in on him. Luckily, he felt someone shoving him out of the way. When Goro looked to see who saved him he sees Kong through the smoke.
"Thanks," Goro says, "but what are you doing here?"
"Allie may be your girl," he grunts, "but she's my friend."
"Lily told you to help, didn't she?"
"She did."
Goro gives a small smile before they continue. "I couldn't find her."
"We should try upstairs," Kong suggests. The problem is that the stairs are blocked by burning debris.
"What do we do now?"
Kong walks over to the debris, "I'll move it while you go up."
"You'll burn your hands."
"News flash!" he starts moving the debris ignoring the pain surging through his hands. "I already have more scares than I can count. What's a couple more gonna do?"
"Other than make an improvement," Goro smirks.
"Shut up!"
Goro runs up the stairs. Halfway there though, more of the ceiling fell.
"Goro!" Kong yells. "It's gonna take time for me to move this with the fire."
"Don't worry about it. Go on and get out of here. I'll find another way!"
"Okay! I'll meet you guys outside."
Goro continues his search. "Allie!" after turning at a corner he found her lying on the floor.
She had blood running down her face and her foot stuck under a piece of wood. She appears lifeless. Were it not for the fact that her chest was rising and falling, Goro would have thought she was dead.
When Goro lifted the wood up off Allie's foot she winces from pain. Goro then picks her up and searches for a way out. The flames were everywhere, the stairs were blocked, and the roof was practically falling on them. That is when the idea hit him.
Goro looks up, hoping that the fire had worn it down enough. Adjusting how he is holding Allie so she would not get hurt. "I'm going to regret this," he bends his knees ready to use all the muscles in his legs.
.oOo.
Outside, Lily was hoping that her friends would return safely. She lets out a sigh of relief seeing Kong return but worried when she notices that Goro and Allie were not with them.
"Kong!" she yells for him when she runs up to him, "Where are the others?"
"They're inside," he lets out a wheeze. "Some of the building fell and separated us. Goro told me to get out," then he held out his hands. "I don't think I would have been much more help anyway."
"Oh, Kong," she gently takes the former ape's hands, examining his burnt palms.
"I had to remove some debris."
The sound of sirens could be heard as vehicles pulled up to the Inn.
"Good. The firemen, police, and the ambulance are here," Lily lets out sigh of relief. "Come on! They can patch you up," she grabs Kong around his wrists so she would not accidentally harm him through the burns.
At that moment they hear a crashing sound. Turning around everyone sees someone hopping down off the roof. Goro lands a good distance away from the building as the fire truck came in to put out the flames.
He carefully lays Allie on the grass. "I think her foot is broken."
"THAT'S MY BABY GIRL!" Richard comes running towards him out of nowhere. He shoves Goro away from his daughter. He got down on the ground and started cradling her. "Please be alright. Please, please be alright."
Allie's eyes open. "Daddy?"
"Allie, you're alright!" Goro stands back up. He takes one step before the father snaps at him.
"You stay away from her!"
"Please tell me you didn't do it?" Allie's quite voice asks him. "I saw the explosives. The same kind I saw every time I visited you at work," her eyes are swelling up with tears. "Please tell me you didn't."
The silence was the only answer she needed. Allie pushes herself away from her father and limps her way to Goro for comfort.
Goro held onto Allie so she would not fall. He can feel the tears as she digs her face into his chest. "Why would you do this?" he asks the man in front of him with disbelief.
"Because I wasn't about to let a monster steal away my daughter," The man then gestures towards the building. "And because of you she nearly died in there."
Allie shouts back, "That was your fault!" refusing to look at her father.
"My intention was never to steal her away," Goro looks the man in the eye, losing any fear he had towards the man. "I only wanted to be part of her ohana."
"I…" Richard started to say before they were interrupted by a police officer.
"Did I hear correctly?" the officer points at Richard. "That this man is responsible for the fire?" when no one answered the officer made his own choice. "All right! You're coming with me."
Goro stops him "Wait officer it wasn't his fault."
"Then whose fault is it?"
Kale walks up and says, "That was probably mine," while putting his cigarette out. "I must have forgotten to put my cigarette out earlier."
"Reports say that there was an explosion."
"Must have been a gas leak somewhere," he walks up to the officer. "You know how it is? All it takes is one tiny little spark to reach it."
"Shouldn't the smoke detectors go off before that happened?"
"Kong must have forgotten to check the batteries in that building."
"I did…" Kong started to say before he catches Lily's cold glare. "I mean, I, uh, I had been meaning to," and lets a low growl.
"Uh-huh?" the officer says looking around at the people who agreed with what was being said. "All right then," he relents before walking off.
Richard then says, "I'm so sorry," to everyone, yet no one in particular.
