I know that I have another story to finish, but this one...I had this oneshot written a while ago, and after some changing here an there, I decided to post it.
I hope you like it!^^

At least once in your life you wonder what could have happened if you had done something a little bit different. At least once in your life you wonder what would have changed if you turned a different corner. At least once in your life you wonder…

…What If?

Once upon a time in a universe, there was a boy, a green haired boy who decided on a sad path.

Green eyes were staring at the beautiful sunset, yellow, red and orange dancing and mixing together in the sky. From where he stood he could see the city, peaceful, or as peaceful as the villains allowed.

"If you believe they're holding back your quirk over in the next world…you should just dive off the rooftop."

14 years old Midoriya Izuku wondered why it took so long for him to come to the school's rooftop. Then again, the colors of the sky were the same as the explosions that he had to take everyday.

Maybe he hated those colors.

Not because of the person responsible for his misery, he wasn't stupid or naive, he was angry at his once childhood friend for all the shit that he had to go through, but he was also angry at himself for let things happen that way, so probably, the reason for hating those colors were just because it made him remember how weak he was.

"Until the very end…until the very end…why am I running away from myself?"

Midoriya took his red shoes and dropped his yellow backpack on the floor. He climbed the fence and took one more look at the sunset.

No…he wasn't running away after all…he was just…tired.

Tired of seeing his mother cry, even though it was not her fault.

Tired of people pitying him.

Tired of trying to fit in a place where no one had his back.

Once upon a time, there was a world where Midoriya Izuku took a leap of fate.

A world where the classes were canceled because of an "accident". A world where Midoriya Izuku wasn't there to run to save Bakugou Katsuki.

A world where the top hero All Might didn't find a successor…

A world where U.A Class 1-A had 18 students.

A world where Aizawa Shota expelled all the 18 students.

A world where some people couldn't be saved from their past, or feelings.

A world where some lost their smiles and lives.

Once upon a time…there was a world that met its end.

Once upon a time, in the universe where the greatest villain of all times was defeated by All Might, there was a green haired girl who changed schools.

Being quirkless was difficult in a society where 80% of the population had a…well…quirk.

Prejudice against people like her, especially at school, was not unusual. The kids her age didn't hold back at the insults and jokes. They were as cruel as the adults who just overlooked everything.

But Midoriya Izuku didn't run away. After years waiting for a miracle, that maybe she would get a quirk late in her childhood, she decided to finally look at herself for who she was, and not at what a quirk or the lack of one would make her look like.

She changed schools in the middle of the year, she left behind everything, including her main bully and past childhood friend.

Izuku was smart, so she ended up at a prestigious school for rich families. And there she met Todoroki Shouto, a boy who was also chained to his past, feelings and quirk.

How weird.

That's what Izuku thought. Todoroki had everything, he was smart, came from a rich family, a fantastic quirk, looks…he had everything that people like her wanted, but still…he was…angry…and sad.

One day, a student from another class stormed inside her class and went straight to Todoroki's seat. At first Todoroki was ignoring the other student, stoic and aloof as always, that is, until…

"You are just here at this school because you are Endevor's son! Without his influence you are nothing!"

Chaos.

There was ice, but there was also…

Izuku learned two things that day. First, Todoroki Shouto could use ice AND fire. And second, she learned that Todoroki was also just a 14 year boy that didn't know what to do with so much pent up hate.

Shouto was given detention for using his quirk and destroying school property. Izuku was on cleaning duty, so in the end she stayed after classes.

The girl never had a conversation with the dual quirk user before, they exchanged some greetings, but Izuku didn't even know if he knew her name, still, after seeing his hurt expression, she wanted to say something, even if this was uncalled for.

"Todoroki-kun…"

"..."

"I didn't know that you had an ice and fire quirk. It really is impressive."

"...I don't like to use my left side, this is Endevor's power, and I would never depend on that old man quirk."

Izuku stopped cleaning the room and stared at Todoroki who was also staring back at her, mismatched eyes glaring at the green ones.

Well…it seems like the Todoroki household wasn't as perfect as everyone thought.

"And why not?" Izuku asked, confused and a little bit annoyed. He had an amazing quirk and didn't want it?! She would give everything to have a quirk!

"This quirk, the fire one, this is Endevor's quirk! I don't need it!" Todoroki answered, raising his voice. The always stoic Todoroki Shouto was showing some emotions for once. "I can be a hero without his help!"

And now Midoriya was dumbfold. What the hell was this guy saying?

"Are you stupid?" She said before she could stop herself. "You have an amazing quirk! Why would you give just half of yourself to everything for such a stupid reason?!"

"Are you even hearing?! I don't want to have anything to do with Endevor! I will prove to him that I don't need him or his quirk to be a hero! How many times do I have to say it?!"

"And are you even hearing yourself?! You…this is all bullshit! You think that the ice quirk is yours, so why would the fire quirk be different?!" Izuku exclaimed, dropping the broom and slamming her hand on the table. "This power is yours! And yours alone!"

He looked shocked. And Izuku was shocked as well. Where did all that come from? She didn't know, but she didn't regret saying a word, so she wouldn't apologize.

They stared at each other for a few seconds, until the green haired girl decided that it was enough. She got the broom from the floor and resumed her chores without a word, an awkward silence hovering over them.

"Sorry." Todoroki said eventually, and that made Izuku look at him again.

"Sorry?" She was confused now.

"...yeah." He wasn't looking at her, instead, he was staring at his left hand. "I think…I upset you…"

"Well, what did you expect?" She arched an eyebrow, and put a hand at her hips. "If someone with a good quirk like you started yelling about not wanting a quirk at someone quirkless like me, how do you think I would feel?"

"You are…quirkless?"

Oh, he sounded surprised now.

"You didn't know? Why do you think everyone avoids me like the plague?"

"They do?"

"You really don't pay attention to your surroundings, no?"

"Not really." Came the deadpanned answer.

"Anyway." Midoriya signed. "Why are you apologizing?"

"I didn't want to yell my frustrations at you, so…I'm sorry." Todoroki started, face slightly pink for embarrassment. "And also…thank you."

Green eyes found mismatched ones.

"I never thought about my quirk like that, I had always compared it to my fath…to Endeavor's." He made a pause, but when the girl didn't say a word, he continued. "But maybe you are right, and this quirk…is mine…"

"It is yours!" Her expression softened. "No matter what people say, this quirk is yours, Todoroki-kun!"

And then he smiled, a small and shy smile, but still a smile, and Izuku thought that it was really beautiful.

"Thank you Midoriya."

"Oh, that surprised me! You do know my name!"

And then the smile vanished, replaced with a frown.

"I'm not stupid."

She laughed, and it was a laughter that erupted from the depths of her being, because…when was the last time that she felt like laughing? Izuku didn't even remember anymore.

"I know, I know! Just maybe…a little bit dense."

"I don't know what you are talking about."

"And that's fine."

They stared at each other a little bit longer, until Izuku extended her hand. Shouto looked puzzled.

"My name is Midoriya Izuku, 15 years old, and quirkless."

"Todoroki Shouto, 14 years old." He grabbed her hand, squeezing it. " My quirk is half cold and half hot."

"Nice to meet you, Todoroki-kun."

"Nice to meet you Midoriya."

Once upon a time, in a different universe, a quirkless Midoriya Izuku saved Todoroki Shouto from himself. In that universe, even without the title of a hero, she became a hero for Todoroki Shouto.

Once upon a time, in a universe where they were still kids, a 5 year old Bakugou Katsuki saw himself in a small dilemma.

"Kacchan! Are you okay?"

Midoriya Izuku, his friend, his quirkless friend was extending a hand at him. Him, Bakugou Katsuki who was blessed with a flash quirk, a quirk that opened the path to be a hero.

The quirkless, freckled green haired boy was…what was he doing?

"Kacchan?"

Sparkling green eyes were staring at piercing red ones.

What was Midoriya Izuku doing?

Was he looking down on him?

The idea angered Katsuki.

"Kacchan?" The freckled boy called again, this time green eyes were starting to get wet. "A-Are you hu-hurt?"

Oh, Deku is gonna cry. He thought, and he didn't like the idea of seeing his friend…no, best friend, cry.

"Are you looking down on me, Deku?" Katsuki asked, red eyes staring at green ones, searching for an answer.

Izuku flinched, but his hand was still extended. He looked hurt.

"Why would I do that?" The green haired boy asked back. "I am…just worried Kacchan…"

Worried . Izuku wasn't looking down on him, he was just worried because they are friends. That sounded a lot like Deku. Katsuki smiled and grabbed Izuku's hand.

"...Thanks." The ash blond boy muttered, cheeks slightly pink. "I guess that even heroes need someone to be worried about them."

And the smile that Midoriya Izuku gave him that day was one that Bakugou Katsuki would never forget.

I want to protect everyone's smile.

I want to protect Deku' smile.

"Let's be heroes together, Kacchan!" Deku exclaimed excitedly. "We can protect each other!"

"Yeah." Katsuki answered, expression softer than before. "Let's do it."

Once upon a time there was a universe where Midoriya Izuku and Bakugou Katsuki grew up together as true friends, one quirkless and another one with a flash quirk, they went to U.A together as a duo, and became heroes…together.

"Once upon a time in a universe where…"

"-ku!"

"Dek-!"

"Once upon a time in a universe…"

"-ek-"

"Midor-"

"Once upon a time in…"

"-riya-kun!"

"-ku-kun!"

"Once upon a time…"

"Shut up…"

"But don't you want to choose another universe?"

"Shut up!"

"But what if you find a universe that you like?"

"Just shut up!"

"I can give you a perfect life! A life where you don't need to suffer, a life where you can be a man or a woman, a life where you can choose your quirk, a life where you choose your loved one, a life…"

"I said, shut up!"

"Haven't you ever wondered 'what if'?"

"Even if I had, it doesn't matter!"

"Why?"

"Because…"

When he woke up the world was white. Well, at least the first thing he saw, a hospital ceiling, was white.

"Oh…"

He closed his green eyes again.

His head hurts, his back hurts, he can't move at all.

"Deku-kun!"

When he opened his eyes, a brunette woman in her early 20's was looking at him, brown eyes full of worry.

"Deku-kun!" She called again. "How are you feeling?!"

"Uraraka-san...did I get hit by a truck?"

The woman snorted.

"Not this time." She answered. "But the villain that you were tracking hit you with their quirk."

"Their quirk…" But before Izuku could finish, the door to his hospital room opened violently.

"OI DEKU!" Came a voice that the green haired man knew very well. "YOU SHITHEAD! WHEN ARE YOU GOING TO WAKE UP?! I AM TIRED OF DOING YOUR FUCKING WORK!"

"Bakugou, you shouldn't yell at the hospital."

"Fuck you Icehot! I gonna yell if it means that the fucker…"

"Hi Kacchan. Hi Todoroki-kun." Izuku interrupted the newcomers.

There was a moment of silence in the room.

"...good morning Midoriya." Todoroki was the first one to react, a small and relieved smile on his lips. "You sure took your time to wake up."

"It does look like it…"

"When the hell did you wake up, bastard?!" The ash blond man shouted, approaching the bed and grabbing the collar of the hospital gown.

"He just woke up, Bakugou-kun!" Ochako panicked, trying her best to separate the angry hero from the hospitalized one that was just laughing. "Oh my god! Stop shaking him! Todoroki-kun! Don't just stay put there and help me!"

"Bakugou, he just woke up, don't go killing Midoriya now."

A few minutes later, when Uraraka convinced the nurses that Pro Hero Ground Zero wasn't really trying to kill Pro Hero Deku, and the doctor examined the green haired man, the group finally got some privacy.

"So you don't remember anything?" Todoroki asked.

"It's still a little fuzzy, but I remember the mission, that I was tracking a villain called 'Sweet Dreams' inside of a building…and then…nothing." Deku explained.

"Well, their quirk puts people in comatose, so maybe it will take some time to remember stuff." The only woman in the room commented.

"How long have I been out?"

"A whole fucking week." Katsuki answered this time, red eyes glaring at his friend/rival. "I had to deal with your paperwork and cover your patrol routes lazy ass!"

"I was in a coma, Kacchan…" Deku retorted amusingly. "It's not like I wanted to give you more work. Also…"

"...Deku-kun?"

"...The only thing that I clearly remember are the dreams." Green eyes looked down at his hands closed around the white linen. "Sweet Dreams isn't just a name, it has a lot to do with what they do after putting you in a coma."

"What do you mean, Deku?"

"The victims so far woke up without issues, probably because Sweet Dreams didn't use their full power, but for me…they made me dream of…different universes, universes that the 'me' took different paths."

"And what happened?" Todoroki asked.

"They wanted me to choose one." Deku muttered, not looking at anyone. "It's just a supposition, but I think that if I wanted to choose one universe, they would keep showing different scenarios, and if I choose one, I wouldn't wake up at all."

Uraraka bit her lower lip, Todoroki frowned, and Katsuki's jaw tightened, they knew what it meant, it meant that Midoriya Izuku would have died.

"But…" Izuku finally looked at his friends, his lips curving into a smile. "...I could hear you guys, saying my name, and that's when I decided that I wouldn't change a thing."

"Why?" Bakugou asked.

Green, brown and mismatched eyes stared at the blond man, but they knew that the question didn't hold any hostility or animosity, he was just wondering a reason to give up on a probably 'good' universe. A universe where Deku wouldn't have to suffer from a lot of stuff, a universe where no one, where Katsuki himself, wasn't there to make Deku walk a rough path.

"Even if I would really wake up to a perfect universe, I wouldn't choose it, because…"

"Haven't you ever wondered 'what if'?"

"Even if I had, it doesn't matter!"

"Why?"

"Because the paths that I took and the people that I met until this day are the ones that transform me on who I am today, and I like this version of me. That's why I wouldn't change a thing."

Once upon a time, in a universe, there was a boy, a green haired boy that became a hero. He was chosen to be the successor of the number 1 hero, All Might. He trained hard, he proved others that he wasn't weak, he saved people, he fell and cried, but he stood up again and continued running to his goal. And everytime he needed help, someone was there to give him a hand so he could keep going.

Tears and blood were dropped during his journey.

At the age of 16, he saw the ugly side of the world. Betrayal, grudges and sorrow were just the beginning. He saw his allies giving up, he saw people dying, he saw everyone suffering.

So he did his best to bring back everyone's everyday lives back, the everyday where they could go to classes, the everyday where they could train, the everyday they could smile.

In this world, together with his friends, he defeated a greatest villain that other generations couldn't.

In this one world, he could smile.

And it didn't matter what happened or would happen, he would never change a thing.

So...your thoughts?
The story can be read as platonic or not, but the initial idea was just friendship between the characters in the different universes that Sweet Dreams create.

Also, did you guys noted that I used neutral pronouns for Sweet Dreams? It was proposital, because I wanted the reader/writer to be the villain. We are always reading and writing different stories about them, so I just wondered if Midoriya would pick another universe if gave him the chance. But in the end, I don't thing that Midoriya would change anything.^^

Hope you enjoyed the story!
