Chapter 3: Checkmate
Earth
A million years later
Since her crash, a million years have passed. Observing the crash site, a woman in a white winter coat is being lowered down into the wreckage. An intelligence agency's shadow group called checkmate was headed by Amanda Waller and was created by the government. In addition to not existing, this agency works above the law. Aside from the U.S. president, no one knew about the agency. While she followed his orders, she also pursued her own agendas.
In response to threats to the world from the sky and from within, the division was established. As long as Batman has been serving justice to the people of Gotham and addressing threats, the city has been in danger. Despite the president's best efforts, threats from space lurked in the background. As a result, he was annoyed that there was never an organized team to deal with these threats. It is now confirmed that we are not alone with this discovery of a ship.
Lieutenant James Blake, armed with a shovel, eventually excavated the ship and discovered a young woman in her early twenties. A lieutenant glanced at Amanda and said, "There is a young woman inside."
"She must be removed from the area as soon as possible." Amanda Waller demanded.
Lieutenant Blake looked at her and said, "I'm not sure if that's even possible. I'm not familiar with that language."
"Then we have no choice. It is going to be moved and we will not leave any evidence that it was ever here." Amanda Waller replied.
"It will be handled personally by me." James replied.
According to Amanda Waller, "You need to act quickly or else consequences will result."
This facility was built 5 levels beneath the surface of the Earth to study alien technology. Throughout the world, there were many bases like this. The Nevada desert was home to one of the most well-known military bases in the world, Area 51.
A laboratory designed to accommodate the alien spaceship and its occupant. The ship was being lowered into place by Lieutenant Blake. In order to signal the military personnel on the roof, he raised his hand. As soon as the ship was lowered down, the roof was sealed. Amanda Waller watched from behind a reinforced glass window as the ship was lowered into position so it could be studied.
Taking note of any damage to the craft, Lieutenant Blake began determining how to free the woman from stasis. His attention was drawn to a blinking light on the right side of the ship as he hovered over it. Despite the ship being unearthed, he did not notice it blinking. There is a possibility that it may have started when they lifted it up off the ground. He pressed the LED light instinctively, and a voice from a ship could be heard.
"Do you want to awaken Kara-El?" The female voice asked.
Upon hearing the voice and realizing that it was intelligent and spoke English, Lieutenant was startled. Turning to the window, he inquired, "Do you want me to tell the computer to release the Woman?"
"You have my permission Lieutenant." Amanda Waller replied, pressing a button on a display.
As he turned around to face the ship, his eyes were once again drawn to the vessel. He responded, "Yes, please awaken Kara."
"As you wish." a woman's voice replied.
In the space of a few seconds, the sounds of the ship started working and the door of the ship opened, revealing the young woman inside. A group of scientists wearing protective gear assist the Lieutenant in carrying the woman to a table in the adjacent room. There was a uniform at her feet that caught the attention of Jordan Harris, a scientist. Over the past 20 years, he has worked for the government.
It didn't take him long to grab the uniform and head to the lab. After entering his lab, he examined the uniform under a microscope. As he zoomed in on the fabrics, he was captivated by their beauty. Upon turning the doorknob, Amanda Waller entered his laboratory. Her eyes caught sight of him hunched over the microscope. As she approached him, she said, "I knew you'd be at your laboratory."
As soon as they removed the woman from her ship I noticed a uniform laying beneath her feet. Without thinking, I had to examine it. In fact, the material felt different than anything I had ever experienced. Dr. Jordan Harris replied.
In response, he pointed at the uniform under the microscope, gesturing for her to see what had been discovered with one eye. As she walked toward the microscope, she could hear his excitement. "Doctor, what did you discover? From all of your excitement in heading to your laboratory, you must have discovered something." Amanda Waller pondered.
His gaze fell on Amanda and he said, "The material used to make the fabric by her people is not on the periodic table."
"That's impossible. How could it be?" Amanda asked.
Dr. Jordan Harris said, "I believe it's possible to recreate the fabric that will protect our soldiers from bullets."
"It would basically be like a shield in a way." Amanda Waller explained.
He said, "As a result, the bullets should deflect off our soldiers and keep them safe."
"When can you begin developing a prototype?" Amanda Waller asked.
He looked directly at Amanda and said. "I can get started right away, and with my team's help, I can have a working prototype by the end of the month."
"I'll hold you to that. Otherwise you'll regret what I'm going to do. I'd like you to supervise them as they conduct tests on our space visitor." Amanda Waller replied.
After a moment of reflection, he grabbed his lab coat and walked towards the visitor's laboratory. Their footsteps led them to the room as they left the doctor's office.
His gaze was caught by other doctors hovering over her once he entered the room. The alien visitor was lying on the table when Jordan Harris approached it with a tray table. The doctor grabbed a syringe and a vial and started drawing blood. A total of six vials of blood had to be drawn by Dr. Jordan Harris. Despite having marked only five samples on paper, he did not mark the rest. To prevent the visitor from moving, restraints were applied. They were concerned that she would wake up and harm them despite being untied.
Standing in front of her, Dr. Jordan Harris grabbed her right arm and injected her with the syringe. Taking a deep breath, he pulled back on the syringe and began to draw blood. A tray with six vials of blood was left on the table after he obtained her blood. His eyes scanned around to make sure nobody noticed him slipping the vial into his pocket.
After leaving the laboratory, he walked back into his office. In his laboratory, he reached for the fridge and placed the blood sample inside. He has his own agenda that differs from Amanda Waller's. His pocket vibrated as he listened to the sounds of a vibrating phone. When he answered the phone, Hank Henshaw would be on the other end.
"Did you follow my instructions?" Hank Henshaw asked.
Dr. Jordan Harris said, "I have the vial you asked me to steal."
"That's excellent news. I'm looking forward to seeing the end results. Lex Luthor funded this and he thinks the clone of the visitor will allow him to run for president. The public will become aware of the dangers of space, which will in turn lead the government to demand my products. We agree that it's a win-win for both of us, and I expect you to adhere to your commitment, for your family's sake." Hank Henshaw replied.
Dr. Jordan Harris said, "Lex Luthor will get exactly what he's paying for and more. What you're asking for, however, will cost money and time."
"I will send you the money, but if you fail me, we will both suffer the consequences. Lex Luthor does not forgive failure." Hank Henshaw replied, before the phone line terminated.
An empty glass container is thrown at the wall by Jordan Harris as he closes the line. In a matter of seconds, it shattered, scattering glass all over the floor.
