I don't own Disenchantment. Spoilers for the finale.

Having finished officiating the wedding of Odval and Sorcerio, Queen Miri "Mop Girl" went in search of her consort. She found Elfo sitting on the beach, staring out at the sea, and though his back was turned to her, she knew he was crying (Elfo was sniffling quite loudly).

"Elfo?"

Elfo turned to his wife, and just as Miri had suspected, there were tears in his eyes. He ran into Miri's arms and she hugged him.

"She left without saying goodbye," Elfo sobbed.

"I know," Miri said, getting down to Elfo's level and letting him cry into her shoulder.

Elfo eventually cried it all out, but he and Miri stayed on the beach even after Elfo had calmed down. Miri removed her heavy crown, and she and Elfo lay back on the sand, bathed in gentle moonlight, looking at the stars and holding hands.

"Do you still have feelings for her?" Miri couldn't help but ask.

"No," Elfo said honestly. "She was my best friend, but I don't think I was really in love with her. I loved that Bean was everything I couldn't get in Elfwood. Adventure, excitement, being able to express negative emotions, and we both wanted to challenge social norms."

Elfo sighed. "Was that stupid of me?"

"You don't have to feel stupid," Miri said, squeezing Elfo's hand. "It's common in a lot of stories. Someone thinks they're in love, but they love the idea of the person more than the actual person. They love what the person represents for them."

Elfo smiled, and he looked into Miri's one visible eye. "You're very insightful," he said, a little amorously. "I'm glad you're not just an idea."

Miri pushed back her hair, showing her whole face and elf ears.

"Let's go back to the castle, honey," Miri said. "I'll show you just how real I am."

Elfo giggled at the implications, and he and Miri stood up. He looked over his shoulder at the ocean one last time before walking off hand in hand with his wife.
