Chapter 9: Green Afterlife

(7th floor of the hotel)

The elevator arrived on the 7th floor and Luigi, Diddy Kong, Bandana Dee, Tails, and Rottytops were met with a room full of greenery.

Diddy Kong- What's going on here? This whole place feels like how it is back home on Kongo Jungle. Did someone turn this floor into a jungle?

Tails- No, Diddy. I believe this is what is known as a greenhouse, where they grow plants in places usually not fitting to be growing things like that.

Rottytops- Is that why there's grass growing out of the floor?

Luigi- Let's just get a move on and find the next elevator button.

(In the main garden on the 7th floor)

Luigi and the others entered this one room after wondering through that jungle of a hallway.

Luigi- Hello…

After taking a few steps in, they looked around and saw a massive garden with plants growing everywhere. There were even stairs leading to higher up in the garden and there were plants on them too.

Rottytops- Wow! Look at this place. It really is like a greenhouse in here.

Bandana Dee- But how is this all supposed to be only one floor of this hotel?

Luigi- Who cares! Look! The elevator button is over there!

In the center of the room was a tiny birdbath and the elevator button to the 8th floor place on display like a centerpiece. Luigi approached the birdbath and grabbed the elevator button. But as soon as he did, he saw a watering can floating nearby before it began watering a plant near the birdbath. Then the plant turned into a venus flytrap and snatched the button away from Luigi as the ghost holding the watering can became visible.

Dr. Potter- And just what are you all doing here in my garden at this late hour?

Then Dr. Potter turned to look at the venus flytrap again.

Dr. Potter- Aww…does my baby need some more water? Well, here you go.

Then Dr. Potter watered the venus flytrap some more and it grew to the ceiling of the garden.

Luigi- What the…

Dr. Potter- Good luck getting that button now. Oh, and if you were thinking about using that two-tailed fox boy to fly up there and grab that button, I've placed several poisonous plants that can shoot their thorns like bullet to fire at anything airborne in this garden. Usually used to deal with nasty bugs that eat plants, but they work just as well to deal with flying intruders.

Then Dr. Potter vanishes, leaving Luigi and the others alone.

Rottytops- You mean we now have to climb all the way up those stairs to get to the elevator button?

Luigi- Looks that way. Guess we better get moving.

(Upstairs in the garden floor)

Luigi, Diddy Kong, Bandana Dee, Tails, and Rottytops got to this room that almost looked like a bedroom in this garden.

Rottytops- Grass growing on the floor here too.

Tails- This place looks like someone's bedroom.

Diddy Kong- What makes you say that?

Tails- The bed in the corner and the sofa and TV in the side of the middle of the room.

Luigi- Probably that gardener since there's just as many things growing in this room as there is in the garden. But where's the door to the other side of the staircase.

Bandana Dee- Maybe it's behind that large pile of leaves. I can faintly see a doorknob behind there.

Bandana Dee approached the pile of leaves and began sucking them up. Turns out, his theory was correct, since there was a door on the other side. But as Bandana Dee tried to open it, but then a ghost jumped out while holding a large flower. Bandana Dee tried to stun it with his flashlight, but the ghost used the flower to block the flash. But before the ghost could attack, Diddy Kong sucked the flower the ghost was holding on to. Then Luigi flashed the ghost so Bandana Dee could suck it up. As soon as they opened the door, they saw a bathroom that was full of cherry blossom peddles.

Tails- Does this gardener have to fill every room with plants like it's a jungle?

(At the highest part of the garden floor)

Luigi, Diddy Kong, Bandana Dee, Tails, and Rottytops managed to climb all the way up the stairs and get to the top where the mouth of the venus flytrap was.

Diddy Kong- Finally! My feet are killing me.

Rottytops- I agree. I'm getting sick of seeing every room being overrun with overgrown plant life. Has this gardener have a thing for plants or what.

Luigi got to the edge of the staircase and tried to think of how he could get across. Then Luigi saw some vines and sucked one of them towards him with his Poltergust so he could swing across. Diddy Kong, Bandana Dee, Tails, and Rottytops did the same. Luigi tried to open the venus flytrap's mouth with his hands, but it didn't even budge.

Tails- Luigi, I think we should try a different method of getting that elevator button.

Luigi- You're probably right.

Then Luigi shot a plunger on one side of the venus flytrap's mouth.

Luigi- Diddy, you stay with me and help me pull on this side. Tails, Rottytops, you get on the other end with a plunger and pull from the opposite side. Bandana Dee, you try to grab the elevator button as soon as it opens its mouth.

Bandana Dee nodded in response to Luigi. Meanwhile, Tails shot a plunger on the other side of the venus flytrap as him and Rottytops began pulling on their end while Luigi and Diddy pulled on theirs. Eventually, the venus flytrap opened its mouth. Bandana Dee rushed to grab it, but it slipped through his grip and dropped all the way back down to the bottom of the garden.

Luigi- NOOOOOO!

Diddy Kong- Oh shoot…

Tails- Now we gotta go all the way back down after spending so much time getting up here…

But then the peddle Luigi was standing on dropped and Luigi suddenly slipped down the stem like a giant slide.

Luigi- WHAAAAAAAAAAA!

After Luigi hit the bottom, he managed to pull himself together.

Luigi- My head…that was an unpleasant ride.

Then Luigi saw the elevator button on the ground near where he was standing.

Luigi- But here's the elevator button we've been searching for.

Luigi reached for it, but then this venus flytrap extended itself and grabbed the elevator button before Luigi could. Then Luigi saw Dr. Potter holding a flower pot with the venus flytrap in it as the flytrap handed Dr. Potter the elevator button.

Dr. Potter- I'll be taking that, thank you very much.

Then the venus flytrap lashed out at Luigi again, but Luigi jumped out of the way. The venus flytrap bit into a large rock and pulled it out of the way, revealing a power saw underneath it.

Dr. Potter- And it's now feeding time for my little friend over here. You can help me with that. They just love the taste of green! Hehehe…

Luigi- I don't like the sound of that. Tails…Diddy…Rotty…Bandana Dee…?

Then Luigi realized that his friends weren't there.

Dr. Potter- They're still stuck at the top while you fell down here. That was my goal this whole time. Separating you all and picking you off one by one, since you appear to be impossible to beat when you're all together.

Then the venus flytrap launched itself at Luigi, but Luigi jumped out of the way. The venus flytrap bit into a rock and got stuck for a moment. That was when Luigi saw the power saw on the ground and picked it up.

Dr. Potter- What are you doing?!

Luigi- Trimming some weeds!

Then Luigi used the power saw to chop the venus flytrap from its stem and leaving Dr. Potter defenseless. Dr. Potter tried to run, but Luigi flashed him before he could with the flashlight and then sucked him up with the Poltergust and got the elevator button.

Luigi- I got it…but I think I should wait for Tails and the others before I go to the 8th floor of this hotel.
