Chapter 8

Flying by the Seat of Your Pants

Dorothy looked over at Peggy. "I'll go and talk to Howard," Dorothy said, patting Peggy's arm. "I'll meet the two of you at the airhanger." Dorothy moved quickly towards Howard's tent and quickly went inside the tent. "Howard."

Howard looked up from a design that he was working on. "Dorothy, dear sister, what are you doing here? I thought we were going to meet up for dinner later." He questioned as he got up to his feet. He still was concerned about her what had happened in Brooklyn with Project Rebirth. He didn't want to lose his sister in the way that Dr. Erskine was lost.

"Well, we need a bit of a favor, Howard…" Dorothy said putting her hands behind her back nervously hoping that her brother would be more than willing to do this favor instead of her.

Howard's dark brows raised as he looked at his sister. "You look guilty… like you're about to do something utterly stupid." Howard pointed out not liking the idea that the look on his younger sister's meant some sort of trouble for him and most likely her as well.

Dorothy rubbed the back of her neck a little bit looking down. "Yes, probably."

"What is it?" Howard questioned moving towards his sister wondering what could lead her to this. If she came to him it had to be important and nothing that was going to be on the radar of the military.

"We need to be flown into where the 107th was taken."

Howard's jaw dropped a little. In all his years of knowing his sister, he never thought that she would utter something so stupid that would risk life and limb to do something that would be able to help some or not help at all.

"If you don't want to do it, Howard, I can fly us in…" Dorothy sputtered out knowing that her brother probably didn't like this idea. Now that she thought more on it perhaps it wasn't a good idea to involve her brother with him being the number one weapons dealer and she helped, but with her background as a military woman, she probably could get into trouble due to what she was doing.

Howard shook his head. "No, you're not doing it alone. I'm in."

CAFACAFA

Dorothy sat in the front of the plane with Howard helping him control the plane. Her lips pursed together into a thin line as she pressed a few buttons to make things a little easier for Howard.

Steve buttoned fatigues over his cap shirt. The helmet with the letter A sat on the bench next to him.

"The Hydra camp is in Krausberg, tucked between two mountain ranges. It's a factory of some kind." Peggy said as she pointed at the map showing him what he needed to know.

Howard leaned back from the controls as Dorothy took over. "We should be able to drop you right on the doorstep."

"Just get me as close as you can," Steve told Howard. "You know, you're going to be in a lot of trouble when you land."

"And you're not?" Peggy questioned looking up at him.

"Yeah, but where I'm landing, if anybody yells at me, I get to shoot them." Steve pointed out knowing that it was probably what he was going to have to do.

"They're undoubtedly going to shoot back."

Steve showed her his shield that was strapped onto his back. "It's got to be good for something."

Dorothy let out a soft chuckle as she continued to fly the plane. She chewed on the inner part of her cheek as she listened to her brother talking.

"Agent Carter, if we're not in too much of a hurry, I thought we'd stop in Lucerne for a late-night fondue," Howard said with a grin.

Steve looked a little tweaked. "Why is he saying "fondue" like that? What's fondue?"

Peggy looked at Steve silently amused by the whole thing. "Stark's the best civilian pilot I've ever seen, and mad enough to brave this airspace. We're lucky to have him."

"Do you, are you two...fondue?"

Dorothy tried to not look back at Steve to watch his reaction to what fondue was. She couldn't believe that this man didn't know what fondue was. And why would Howard invite her along if it was something that dealt with sex? She had a feeling that was what Steve had thought it was.

"Take this transponder. Activate it when you're ready and the signal will lead us right to you." Peggy said, handing it to him.

Steve looked at the insignia, "Stark Industries'. "You sure it works?"

"It's been tested more than you have," Dorothy said with a scoff.

Suddenly the plane lurched to the left. Anti-aircraft guns hammered the plane.

Howard quickly joined Dorothy and executed evasive maneuvers to avoid getting hit.

Steve strapped on his parachute and threw open the jump doors.

"Rogers, get back here. We're taking you in!" Peggy ordered him.

Explosions rocked through the air.

Steve hesitated realizing what he was about to do. He turned to Peggy. "ONCE I'M CLEAR, TURN THIS THING AROUND AND GET OUT OF HERE!"

"YOU CAN'T GIVE ME ORDERS!"

"THE HELL I CAN'T!" Steve said bracing in the doorway. "I'M A CAPTAIN!"

The plane lurched once more just as Steve jumped out of the plane.

Dorothy let out a soft groan shaking her head lightly. She couldn't believe that Steve was giving them orders to get the hell out of dodge and leave him alone to deal with whatever he was going to have to deal with on the ground.

Peggy caught a glimpse of Steve's chute. She swore under her breath and then signaled to Howard and Dorothy, who hauled on the throttle.

Dorothy shook her head lightly. "Next time let's not do this again brother." She said as she looked at her brother, her cheeks about as pale as hers were.

Howard let out a soft chuckle. "You wanted to help out."

"I know but flying and getting shot at… is more of something that you would do brother dear."

Howard began laughing as they flew towards a safer area. "Of course, you would say that. But dear sister, we're both a bit mad to be doing this."

Dorothy let out a soft chuckle and shook her head lightly as they made their way towards a safe area to land and perhaps get some food like Howard had asked prior. After the flying and avoiding death perhaps food was the best place to go and unwind and gather their bearings before returning.
