A/N: If the initial interaction feels familiar that might be because I might or might have not gotten inspired from the haircut chapter in my Blood Moon series XD Sue me, I love domestic fluff as much as I love heart wrenching angst
Forks. -
Jasper woke up to fingers tracing soft patterns on his chest, legs tangled with his in a familiar mess, happiness and calm tickling his skin. He took in a deep breath, cherishing the floral scent that exuded from the gentle woman huddled against him.
-Morning, handsome.- Alice greeted softly, pulling back just enough to meet his gaze, a wide smile adorning her features, he leaned forward, giving her an Eskimo kiss and smirking as her tinkling laughter filled the room.
-Mornin', beautiful.- He whispered, bringing his hand up to caress her cheek affectionately, this before leaning in to catch her lips into a soft kiss.
He loved this, loved being able to kiss her whenever he wanted, waking up with her in his arms, it was all he could ever ask for, all he needed to feel like nothing could ever go wrong in the world.
Like happiness was genuinely something so easy to achieve.
She was his happiness, her smell, her touch, her warmth, her smile, her voice, everything about her was wonderful, like a drug he couldn't get enough of.
He grabbed her waist, shifting their position, enough for her to end up on top of him, her chuckle making him smile, he liked feeling her weight on top of him, it made her feel real, like he wasn't hallucinating, and he liked the feeling of the lightness it brought to his chest.
All his life he could never bring himself to trust a soul, never be able to relax, to let his guard down, but with Alice he could, he could trust she wouldn't attempt to overpower him if he so much as showed weakness, she wouldn't force him down and leave him for others to tear apart.
She wouldn't bite him nor crush him for trusting her.
Same as he had tested how far she was willing to go when he had kissed her neck, wanting to see whether she would be afraid of him ripping her throat open or fight back, he liked testing what would she do if he was the one giving her an opening.
But she never took it, she never tried to attack, intimidate or threaten, he knew he should stop waiting for her to show the other side, for the other shoe to drop, but he couldn't help it, a little part of him still had a hard time acknowledging this to be real.
That someone could love him as much as she did, and so he tested her, because it brought him comfort to have her kissing him instead of biting him.
It was… an exhilarating feeling.
That of having someone so loyal, someone that wouldn't betray him nor take advantage of his weakness.
Alice for her side grinned as she found herself on top of Jasper, she kissed his jaw, feeling his arms coming to wrap around her waist as she did.
It had taken her a while to understand the meaning behind this curious gesture, but she did, and she knew what half of the time this meant, when he made her lay on top of him, he was testing her, for what? She couldn't be sure, but she had a feeling it might be related to his issue with being restrained.
He didn't like being restrained, Alice's noticed that much, he would tense whenever she was the one tangling their legs, or when she straddled him out of nowhere whenever she convinced him to wrestle her.
She guessed it made sense for him to not be comfortable with being restrained considering one of the Volturi's methods to punish him had been to chain him up in the dungeons.
But he had nothing to be worried about, she would never harm him, nor would she ever make something that might either make him uncomfortable or make him feel threatened.
She could never do anything to harm him.
He was her life, she's waited for him for so long, craving to see him, meet him, know him, she had wanted to touch him and kiss him and just be there with him, the idea of him being anxious around her wasn't pleasing.
But she also knew she had to be patient, it was nothing personal, he was learning what it meant to be able to trust someone, she didn't mind showing him there was nothing to be worried about.
And so whenever he gave her an opening, she would kiss him, just to show him she meant no harm, she loved him, and she would never take advantage of his vulnerability.
She gave him an Eskimo kiss, loving how quiet and peaceful this moment was turning out to be. He seemed rather relaxed, she traced the scar on his eyebrow before brushing away a few strands of hair, his hair was quite long.
She wondered…
-Say , what do you think about a haircut?- She asked, twirling a golden lock between her fingers, she liked his hair long, it was nice and it suited him rather well, but she wanted to put the option out, just in case he wanted a haircut.
A new haircut for a new life.
Some would say.
Jasper frowned, a haircut? He's never given it thought, did he want his hair cut? He wasn't human, if he agreed to cut it he would never have it long again, as a human, he had liked it long so as to hide his face and keep people from noticing how actually young he looked.
Because while he might have been taller than average, for someone his age that was, he had still had a too young of a face.
And when he became a vampire he kept it long because he didn't see an issue with it, then he kept it because María had liked it, and also to hide the growing mosaic of ragged scars.
In Volterra he still kept it long to hide his scars too…
He's kept it long all this time to hide.
But Alice liked his face, her touch was gentle and loving, never disgusted, never pitiful.
He wasn't sure what she saw, but she liked his face, she didn't flinch nor was she unable to look him in the face like other people.
She genuinely liked his face.
And that… it was as exhilarating as it was overwhelming, it filled him with thousands of mixed emotions.
And if Alice liked his face, if there was hope for someone to like his face despite how horrible it was, he felt confident enough to want to be rebellious and take the risk of doing something impulsive and possibly stupid.
If he were to be with her, he didn't want to hide anymore.
Thus, he glanced at the strand she was twirling between her fingers before meeting her expectant gaze.
-You can cut it.- He told, smiling at the excitement that flared in her emotions, she was off the bed in a flash, and he took that chance to bring himself up in a sitting position, wincing at the ache in his ribs.
Alice flew all over the room, gathering what she would need to give Jasper a haircut; comb, scissors, a towel, and a handful of pretty and brightly colored hair clips she had bought for her unicorn costume around five Halloweens ago.
She grabbed the stool from the desk before moving it to the front of the giant mirror Esme had gotten her for Alice's last birthday, she didn't remember her birthday, and while she now knew her birthday date after James, she liked the idea of keeping the one Esme had given her.
The day she finally found the Cullens.
-Sit here.- Alice beckoned, pointing at the chair infront of her, Jasper left the bed and went over to the chair, sitting down as instructed.- Hold this, right here.- She said, giving him the wooden box filled with the hair clips, Jasper took it with a curious look.
Alice drapped the towel around his shoulders before reaching out for his hair, carding her fingers through it.
-How short would you like it?- Alice questioned, her fingers combing through his hair, he would look quite handsome with his hair slicked back, she mildly noticed.
-Whatever you like is fine with me.- Jasper told, looking up at Alice with a light smile, he was never one to care much about hair length, he would keep it long until it became too long and he chopped it off to start again.
Alice traced the smooth edges of his face with her fingers, tracing the outline of several scars before bending down to steal a quick kiss from him.
-Whatever I want it is then.- Alice said, amused over his bewildered look at her stolen kiss, she liked evoking such reaction from him, she could rarely catch him off guard.
She straightened back up before grabbing a few hair clips from the box Jasper was holding, circling the chair to stand behind him, she put them on the top half of his hair before grabbing the comb and the scissors she had put in her pockets.
She started to comb through his hair before the snipping began.
Jasper watched her reflection on the mirror as she worked, her little frown of concentration tugging at the corner of his lips, she looked so endearing like that, it made him want to hold her against him and kiss her face.
It was hard to believe she had decided to give him a chance despite seeing how damaged he was, how broken his mind was and how vile had he been.
All the bloodshed and death, all the madness and self-destruction…
She hadn't cared about it, she had still given him a chance.
She had become the light of his life, Alice was such an energetic soul, so full of love and kindness it made him want to keep her safe from the world itself. Her loyalty was as exhilarating as her love for him was.
Overwhelming, like a tsunami crashing onto him.
She was so understanding and so so patient.
She had made him hope for a better future, a better life, she had loved each and every single one of his scars, accepted his darkness and past, hadn't cared to get stained by the filth in his skin.
She made him live again.
She was the soulmate he never expected to find in such a cruel world, nor even thought to exist at all.
For someone like him to be able to walk out of that corrosive darkness that had held him down for so long… she was the light that had walked with him, illuminating his path with her warmth and love, holding his hand and leading him out of all that was bitter and dull.
Bringing him out into a world full of colors, life, hope.
She was the one who had taught him that while the world could be a vile and cruel place, it could also be warm and beautiful. She-
-Jazz, love, I love you too, but I need you to let me focus so you won't end up with a ridiculous haircut.- Alice's gentle voice pulled him out of his thoughts, amusement tingling in her emotions, he was quick to get a hold of his gift, realizing that he was projecting, had he been human his face would have been burning.
Because that's never happened before, he was proud at how well he did at keeping his gift under control.
But Alice never failed to do amazing at making his control waver.
Still.
-I apologize.
His answer was a crushing wave of love that slammed into him with the might of an earthquake, bursting into a thousand fireworks that sizzled all over his skin in the most pleasing way ever. A shiver running down his spine, and he had to keep himself from leaning back in search for her touch.
Amusement danced in the air alongside bubbling adoration and tingling playfulness.
He basked in it, enjoying such obliterating yet welcomed feelings, caressing her with his own love and adoration, struggling to keep it at bay so as to not disorient her.
Her emotions danced with his in perfect harmony, a pleasant warmth enveloping the room, he could definitely get used to this.
The snip of scissors and the soft whispers of hair landing on the marble floor were the only sounds that filled the air, though it didn't last much, because soon Alice's angelical voice was filling the room as she began singing softly, a french lullaby, same one that had been playing at a local store when they climbed the Eiffel Tower a few weeks ago.
At night the place wasn't as crowded, and considering their dark clothes at the time alongside their quick movements no one had noticed them, it had been one of his favorite nights.
Meanwhile, Alice kept her voice low as she sang, soft enough that even a vampire that wasn't infront of her would have a hard time hearing her. She liked to sing, but she liked to sing for Jasper a lot too, she liked that little sparkle in his eyes he got whenever she sang, the way he would look at her…
She loved it.
The whispering metallic scratch the scissors created with each snip was calming, the whole act of getting to cut his hair she found it to be quite full filling, because he trusted her to do this, trusted her enough to let her do something so radical as that as to permanently change his hair.
She tousled his hair a few times, combing it to inspect how was her work turning out.
Jasper stared at her all the while through the mirror, taking in her features, sometimes, he liked to stare at her, stare at the precious gem the world gifted to him, pure, delicate, bright, and just too beautiful.
Her bright smiles, her kind hands, her gentle eyes, her beautiful soul… he wanted it all, he wanted to see it always, to be the one to make her laugh, to evoke those flustered looks whenever he managed to catch her off guard, to be the one holding her hand, to be on the receiving end of her love…
He wanted to be selfish and keep her with him for eternity.
Alice for her side took around an hour cutting Jasper's hair, and while a haircut shouldn't take so long she enjoyed the slow and soothing process. Putting hair clips, removing them, she found it both hilarious and cute how he looked like with bright hair clips, some of which had glitter on them.
But all things must come to an end, and once she was done with the haircut she took the remaining hair clips off his hair before removing the towel from his shoulders.
-Done.- Alice announced with a wide grin, she had gone with a simple haircut, it was shorter than before, but not much, some of it fell on each side of his face and it had lost some of its waves.
Still.
Alice had to admit the look suited him, she circled him, mussing his hair up in some spots, all so as to make sure she hadn't missed or messed up something, but all in all nothing was amiss.
-Do I look better now?- Jasper questioned, smirking and biting back the urge to raise his eyebrow, the way she was looking at him, oozing pride, awe and something akind to fascination…
It filled him with giddiness, and something he isn't felt in a long time.
Pride.
Because she liked the way he looked .
He knew she didn't focus solely on his appearance, but it felt nice to know she also liked his appearance, not sure what she saw, but it still felt nice.
Alice hummed at his question, touching her chin and giving him a pensive look with a dramatic pause. She kept circling him, this before coming to a halt behind him, she then brought her arms around his shoulders, resting her chin on his shoulder, hugging him from behind and grinning as he turned to look at her.
-You look very handsome.- Alice finally conceded, pressing a kiss against his cheek, Jasper brought his hand up to take one of her hands into his own, bringing it up to his lips and pressing a fluttering kiss against the back of her hand, and then at the heel.
-Thank you.- His voice was unusually soft as he spoke, his eyes closed, and Alice had the sudden feeling that he might not be saying those words just because of the haircut.
When he looks at her there's a new kind of sparkle in his eyes, warm, loving.
He looks like a weight has been lifted off his shoulders, he looks…
Happy.
And that's all she could ever possibly want.
~
-It's not as bad as it looks.- Jasper said, Alice had taken it to check his wounds after cutting his hair, had inspected the ones on his arms, patted around his ribs to check if something was broken and now…
She had demanded to see his leg, to not attempt to hide it for she had seen him limping, that's how he ended up sitting on the bed feeling much more self-conscious and naked than he's done in a while.
Because he wasn't wearing any pants, and while he wasn't exactly naked considering he was still wearing his underwear and was covering himself with the blanket he still felt way too exposed.
Alice was kneeling before him, inspecting his knee with a critical look, his knee which wielded a maybe not so pretty burn, but it looked worse than it was, it didn't hurt as much now, he couldn't quite remember from who did he got that.
Meanwhile, Alice frowned, ignoring Jasper's words, his skin was burnt, how could he claim it to not be a big deal? In a human? Believable, not all burns were dangerous.
But on a vampire? Vampires were extremely sensitive to fire, the venom coursing through their veins being immensely flammable, the burn had an odd handprint shape, but wider, as if someone with a fire touch that could spread had grabbed him.
It went around his knee, on the back, and a bigh near his thigh and below the knee, the skin looked raw and there were thin cracks that were healing awfully slow, as if whoever grabbed his leg had almost managed to rip it off.
That was a nauseating thought, what the hell had he been thinking when he thought smart to go against dozen of vampires on his own? Major or not he was one, and he was in no condition to be fighting, he could have gotten himself killed!
-Why are you mad?- His sudden question caught her attention and she looked up at him, confusion written all over his face.
She wanted to snap at him, how could she not be mad? He should have run, hide, anything but fight. And alright, things turned out for the better, but what if things had gone wrong? The Volturi wouldn't have been able to do a thing against them without actual proof.
But what if they had taken Jasper? What if those vampires he killed had managed to overpower him and take him?
It terrified her the idea of the Volturi sinking their claws on him once again, he didn't deserve to be put through such horrors again, he deserved happiness, freedom, to do whatever he wanted without fear of being punished for it.
If he had been taken… he could have been killed, tortured, enslaved through much more worse methods, and she would have never been able to save him.
But she also couldn't bring herself to be mad at him when he was staring at her with that face, she didn't want to argue with him, not now, not ever, and while she knew that last might not quite be possible considering no relationship was perfect.
She didn't want to do that now, not when he was infront of her, safe, free, he wouldn't need to run anymore, nor hide, she finally had him all to herself, she could finally breathe easier knowing no one would take him away if she so much as relaxed.
So all she did was stand up and pull him into a hug, taking in a deep breath and cherishing the fact that she could make out his natural scent over the one from the clothes he wore.
Not that he was wearing much clothes right now, but the point stood.
He smelt like himself.
Jasper for his side frowned, but he still wrapped his arms around Alice's waist, he was confused on what was going through this woman's head, her emotions were all over the place, first she had been mad, then sad, then angry, then grateful, and now happy?
He couldn't keep up with her turmoil of emotions, but she seemed happier, and he liked having her hug him, so he didn't complain.
They stayed like that for a while, just enjoying each other's presence, but all good things must come to an end.
The sudden knock made Alice bite back a growl, she didn't leave her position, her cheek resting on Jasper's head, his grip on her had tightened though, but she made a point to caress his back, comforting him through her emotions, there was nothing to be afraid nor nervous about.
-What?- She asked, not bothering to hide her annoyance.
-Are you gonna keep him in there all day?- Emmett's sudden voice held nothing but the kind of teasing and amusement only Emmett was capable of, Alice bit back a smirk.
Sometimes Emmett's desperation to meet Jasper reminded her of her own desperation to meet Bella, she had begged Edward more than once to introduce her to her, would stand outside his room for hours and follow him all over the house thinking as loud as possible the reasons why should he introduce her to her.
Now she was going through the same ordeal, with Emmett, just that Emmett went as far as quoting memes, and appearing in the most random of places singing parodies of songs regarding his wish to be introduced to Jasper.
She found it hilarious, she had to be honest.
-I might do just that.- She said, snickering as she heard the dramatic long sigh from the other side of the door. She almost felt bad.
Almost.
But she had to think of Jasper, Bella had been human and with no fear whatsoever towards vampires when she first met them.
But Jasper was a vampire, one who didn't had a good experience with vampires nor covens, he didn't fear vampires, but he didn't trust them either, she didn't want to subject him to the presence of six vampires all at once, he knew the Cullens meant no harm.
Didn't mean he might be able to handle their stares and presences, she didn't want to overwhelm him.
And Emmett… he was the one Jasper felt the most anxious about, he hadn't said so, but the how he acted whenever he heard about him… she understood, Emmett was huge and could be quite intimidating at first glance.
But he was harmless.
But Jasper didn't believe that.
She would just need to show him.
-Or I might not, who knows? Go bother Rosalie.- Alice said at last, she would need to speak with Jasper, and she didn't need Emmett eavesdropping.
Emmett sighed even more like the dramatic diva he was before Alice heard him walk away.
She then turned her attention back to Jasper, he didn't avoid her gaze even as she caught him staring.
-We need to talk.
~
Jasper stared at himself in the mirror, he hated mirrors, hated looking at himself in mirrors, and still… as he stared at himself right now all he could wonder about was whether he should run while he still had the chance.
Alice had managed to convince him to meet the Cullens, face to face, actually interact with them.
She had made him wear clothes she had gone out to buy herself, his size, she had bandaged his leg despite his protests so he could wear something better than cargo pants or sweatpants, and… he isn't dressed this nice since he was human.
A button up shirt, a vest, and jeans that he still found weird, but at least not uncomfortable as the first ones he had worn.
Alice had also wrestled him into putting on some shoes, looked like boots, sort of.
What did put him off was that he didn't have the muzzle with him, he had lost it while fighting the Volturi's little army.
No one had seen his face before because he had been covered in blood and venom, but now he was clean, and all the scars could be seen, and his eyes were burning red, he felt… much more self-conscious than he had expected.
What if they hated him? What if they saw the monster Alice refused to see?
No haircut or fancy clothes could ever hide the demon underneath.
But Alice liked him, as long as she liked him he wanted to believe nothing else would matter.
The sudden sound of the door opening caught his attention, he turned to see Alice, she was oozing such obliterating excitement, giddiness and just too much happiness.
It made some of his nerves quell, she had left him to change clothes earlier while she went to reunite the Cullens.
Which meant he would have to face them all, six against one.
-I knew it would look good on you.- Alice's voice was happy as she came up to him, her hands reached out to pull him down, just enough so she could fix the neck of his shirt, her touch lingered there for a moment, their eyes meeting.
And when her gaze softened, the light brush of her fingers against his jaw, it felt like he could take on the world itself.
-It will be alright, I promise.- Her voice was gentle as she spoke, her thumb stroking his jaw affectionately.- But if it gets too much, squeeze my hand, hard , and I will get you out. Okay?- Alice asked, low enough for only him to hear, not that she had to try much considering how close they were to each other's faces.
-Okay.- Jasper muttered, this before leaning in and giving Alice an Eskimo kiss, Alice smiled.
And as both of them pulled back Jasper threw another look at himself through the mirror, he still didn't felt comfortable over the lack of coverage on his face, ironic considering not long ago he said he wouldn't hide anymore.
Alice seemed to know what was wrong because she was quick to disappear through the door before coming back a few seconds later holding a black medical mask.
-Here.- Alice didn't like when Jasper covered his face, but she also knew she couldn't force him to do things that would just make him uncomfortable. He would stop when he felt ready.
Plus, he didn't even hide his face as much as he used to, so she counted that as a win.
Once he had put it on Alice took his hand, leading him out of the room.
Alice was nervous, but her excitement over this situation was much more bigger, the hope for this to go well, the one she still worried a bit about was Edward.
The others… she at least knew none of them would be hostile nor rude towards Jasper, she had made a point to threaten Edward, to behave if he didn't want to end up with several missing teeth.
She loved her brother, and she liked to keep herself from violence, but she wouldn't hesitate to punch Edward if he so much as dared to speak ill to Jasper, she could be the bigger person and deal with it in a pacifistic fashion when Jasper wasn't around to hear the atrocities Edward spoke about him.
But if he said them to Jasper directly… there would be pain coming for him.
She led Jasper down the stairs, she had made them wait at the living room, a bigger space so Jasper wouldn't feel cornered, and with windows in case he wanted to choose a rash exit and bolt out.
She wished she had her visions to comfort her regarding the outcome of this, but ever since she met Jasper he's turned out to be quite the unpredictable one, she could hardly see what he would do.
Jasper for his side felt more and more nervous with each step, he wanted to turn around and run, but this was important to Alice, and he had to do this if he ever wanted to make their relationship stronger.
Plus, as a human he was taught that it was the right thing to do, that of meeting the parents of the woman you were sure would stay in your life forever, the woman you loved dearly, the one you might one day marry.
He almost felt mortified with the ease that last thought spawned, married? Him? To Alice? That was… an interesting thought, one he found that he liked quite a lot, she would look like a beautiful angel in a wedding dress, the most beautiful woman in the world.
But he was getting ahead of himself, he wanted to do a lot of things with her before marriage, he wanted to see what she might think of that, and he had to cross the hardest obstacle.
Meet the family.
Because if he wanted to marry Alice, he would definitely need to ask for her father's permission, blessing? Did people do that still? Did it count when her father was the coven leader?
He needed to learn more about the modern world, and much more if he wanted to be worth of being with her.
So deep in his thoughts he was he didn't notice when they reached the living room until he felt the wave of apprehension.
And as he looked up he saw them, same six people he didn't leave much of a good first impression on.
And he could feel the stares, their emotions…
But no, unlike what he's ever gotten from others there's no fear, no disgust, no discomfort, nothing of what he's grown so familiar with when it came to him.
And that was as unsettling as it was unexpected, because he knew these people knew who he was and what he could do.
So where was the fear? Where was the disgust?
He couldn't understand.
