It was another day in Resurgam First Care Hospital. Penny was again checking the various medical records.
"Can I tell you a joke?"
"What is it, Biscuit?"
"Why did the medical kit cross the road?"
"Why?"
"To get to the other hospital! Ha!"
Penny giggled at the bad joke. Despite being funny and friendly, Biscuit was still an ai, and couldn't make jokes that much.
"Penny Mannette?"
Penny turned to find a woman standing near her door. "What is it?"
"We need you to supply a patient with her daily dose of insulin."
"Of course." Penny slowly walked out of her office. "Insulin. This person must have Type 1 diabetes."
Penny made it to the room. "Room 199." She opened the door and saw a girl sitting on her bed. She smiled as she saw the pharmacist. "Hi! I'm Kelly!"
Penny noticed how young this girl was, probably 14 years old. The poor girl, having diabetes at this young age.
"Hi Kelly. I'm Penny Mannette and I'll help you get your dose of insulin. Hope you don't like shots." Kelly just giggled. "I'm okay. They do this to me every 2 days a week. Doesn't hurt a bit!"
"Okay. Before I inject the insulin, can you tell me about your experience with diabetes? When did it start?"
"Hmph! Diabetes is a lie. My parents and everyone are all acting like candy is a deadly poison. My daddy owns a candy store down the street. But I'm fine! I ate a whole jar of candy once!"
Penny was aghast. "WHAT?! You can't do that!"
"But I did! And I was fine!"
"Do you remember anything before then?"
"...No. But I was fine!"
Penny facepalmed. "Look, Kelly. This is serious. You could've died back there."
"Died? I didn't die!"
"Yeah, but if you continue trying to get sweets, it might cause your blood sugar to rise so much you might have a heart attack!"
Kelly stayed silent, but had a cross look on her face. Penny proceeded to take the bottle of insulin and gathered the requested amount with a syringe. "Alright. Are you ready?"
Kelly was hesitant, but nodded. She still wasn't talking.
Penny wiped Kelly's arm with the alcohol and then injected the insulin into her. Kelly yipped with pain, but eventually calmed down.
"There. My work here is done."
"Penny?" Kelly finally spoke. "Do you think I'll eat something sweet someday?"
Penny smiled. "Of course, there is cheesecake. From what I've read, cheesecake is one of the only sweets that won't hurt you."
"R-really? I can have something sweet?"
Penny giggled. "Yes you will. Just make sure not to eat too much of it, okay?"
"Okay!! Bye, Penny!"
Penny left Room 199 with a smile. She had done her job and had made another new friend. As she walked, she noticed that a door was left ajar.
"Hmm...no one wouldn't mind if I explore this place for a bit?"
As Penny walked into the room, she suddenly screamed. There, laying on a table, is a dead man. Blood was on his mouth, having dried already. The smell of death was in the air. His glassy eyes stared at Penny, wide and dead.
This room was definitely a morgue. Hospitals have morgues for medical examination. Penny immediately ran over to a trash can and her grilled cheese sandwich immediately returned to the land of the living.
"My my. I'm sorry you wandered into this place at the wrong time."
Penny quickly turned around and saw a woman dressed in black, her hair white. Her cold blue eyes looked directly into Penny's, paralyzing her.
"As you can see, I am conducting an investigation into this man's death."
"W-who are you?"
"Naomi. Naomi Kimishima."
"I'm Penny Mannette, the pharmacist of Resurgam First Care."
Naomi had a stoic expression, but not as stoic as CR-S01. "The dead says you may stay as much as you want, as long as you don't disturb the body."
"T-thanks...Can I ask you...how did he die?"
"For most people who viewed his case, Melvin Donroe died from a drug overdose. However, with evidence, I believe it wasn't done by himself. I believe he was murdered..."
