Without a second thought I rushed out to see what was happening and be briefed by the Jedi. "Anakin, what is it this time?" General Kenobi spoke to his commlink as if he were actually speaking to his former padawan, with a look of suspicion on his face. "We've apprehended the bomber, Master. Jackar Bomoni. I've ordered all the exits to be locked down so he can't escape." Anger blazed in Skywalker's words as he was blinded by rage until the traitor was caught. "Very well, Anakin." Kenobi commended him and pretended not to notice the fiery attitude of General Skywalker as he disconnected the com's transmission. "Awaiting orders, sir." I saluted towards him, appearing to have disturbed his thoughts as he brought his hand away from his face looking at me for the first time since I'd arrived there. "Stay at your stations and be prepared to stun this man, if he should cross your path." He held up his hologram displaying a green one-eyed alien. "Yes, General." I nodded to him as he ran off, most likely to inform the chancellor of the disruption. Suddenly I heard ominous footsteps nearing and instantly recognized the overly graceful steps belonging to none other than the single most hated person in the galaxy. I turned, retching at the sight I'd be welcomed by. "I'm glad to see that Savage followed his orders." That awful voice dared to touch my ears. He scanned Rebel up and down pausing specifically at her prosthetic looking deviously delighted. He took a quick spin on his heel and headed back in the direction he came. I rolled my eyes, thinking it was pathetic how he'd come all the way from his office just to say that one sentence but he was just that desperate. Rex and Wrecker caught my eye, so I went to join them. "Ugh! How much longer do you think we'll be here?" Wrecker gripped. "I'm sure the Generals have everything under control." Rex said flatly, tired of Wrecker's grumbling. "Well, whatever they do I hope it doesn't take too long, these alarms are killing me." He cupped his hands over his ears looking up to the nearest bell. "Aww, shut up!" He yelled at it as Rex tapped away rapidly on his datapad. "It's true then?" I asked him quietly, trying to watch what he was checking on his reg manual. "I'm afraid so." He sighed, taking a breath, finally looking up, something past me caught his eye and he pointed in it's way. I followed the line of his finger to where he was focused and saw Rebel looking panicked. I felt horrible, I had forgotten to even check to see if she was alright after what Palpatine had said. I didn't even totally process what he'd said until now. Savage, orders. Palpatine had told him to do something, but what? The chancellor's grating words were too difficult to listen to, I hadn't even registered them or in what context he had said them. The three of us went to join her, me getting there first. "What is it?" I asked hoping she'd listened closer than I had. "Palpatine, Savage." She repeated my thoughts recognizing they worked together as I had realized moments ago. "It wasn't an accident to cut off my leg." She said hesitantly, not liking to talk about it. I gasped comprehending the reason he'd gestured to her leg, I thought he examined it closely just because it was new and that was what everyone else's eyes fell on first too, but Palpatine never did anything without reason, without manipulation. "Gah!" I said audiblily scolding myself. "How could I be so blind?" I paced back and forth, my hand smacking my forehead. "Savage could have killed us and he could have deflected that lazer, they could have shot down our escape pod." I knew they could've overpowered us, easily. "They wanted us to get off that ship, harmed, but alive, they wanted something from us." The trouble was, what did they want? "Or they were telling us something." Rex wondered. "Wait, when is the order supposed to go off?" He lowered his voice, not wanting anyone else to find out, not yet at least. He knew she'd done research about the execution of order 66 and could possibly give us some idea of when the incident was going to take place. "Today." Rebel gulped, eyes widening. I didn't expect her to know the exact day it was going to occur and I figured she might warn us when the day was drawing near, perhaps she'd forgotten I reminded myself that it had been a hectic past few days. "The day that you get better is the day of order 66." Wrecker's brain struggled to grasp the coincidence or maybe uncoincidental selection of the moment. "That's not a coincidence, they gave us a timer. Once Rebel got better we ran out of time." I felt my knees become weak and almost fell down, wishing with every fiber in my body we could've caught the warning signs and had taken action sooner but it was a distraction and now we were doomed. "It's too late, we can't stop it." Rebel's bottom lip quivered. "We had one job, and we failed it, now we can't save our brothers or the Jedi." She took the blame completely upon herself as if it was our duty to save the universe and it rested on her shoulders. I ached for a way to show her that wasn't true but she started to run back to our quarters, casting Wrecker aside, out of her way. "Rebel!" I called after her but she continued running, faster now. I just noticed the alarms had ceased and wondered how long they'd been silent as I chased after her. I saw her curled up on her bed, crying for the first time since her leg. Her first deep emotional pain, her first emotional scar that would leave a greater mark than her leg wound had.
