Sally soon made it back to the Freedom Fighters HQ and she entered it. The other Freedom Fighters were sitting around a table: Sonic, Tails, Rotor, Antoine, and Bunnie. They turned to Sally as she entered.
"Man, you really enjoyed swimming, didn't you?" Sonic jokingly said as he rubbed his left index finger underneath his nose.
"Yeah, sorry for being away for so long, guys. I kinda got lost while swimming and forgot the time." Sally explained as she put down her swimming bag.
"Well, it's a good thing you're here now, Sally, because we gotta be ready for any eventual attacks from Eggman or other villains." Rotor said to Sally, stretching his arms. Sally nodded and she went to put away her swimming bag.
Meanwhile, out in New Mobotropolis, Vector the Crocodile, Espio the Chameleon and Charmy Bee were sitting around the table in their Chaotix Detective Agency. Vector and Charmy had sad frowns on their faces while Espio was thinking with his eyes closed.
"Perhaps we could expand our business into acting as hired muscle for corporations?" Espio suggested.
"Maybe we could do something like that! What do you think, Vector?" Charmy asked Vector.
"Probably, guys. But there's a chance those corporations will pay us paltry sums, and we can't keep our agency afloat that way. We really need a profitable operation to bring in the cash to get out of debt!" Vector shouted, banging his right fist on the table. Suddenly, the green crocodile had a marvelous idea.
"I got it!" Vector exclaimed. This caused Charmy to smile.
"Really?! What's your plan, Vector?" Charmy asked Vector happily.
"We could expand our business into Merbian hunting! There are some people who are crazy enough to believe in Merbians, and they pay lots of money for those puppies! We could do something with that! What do you think, guys?" Vector asked his friends.
"Yeah, we could do something with that!" Charmy exclaimed happily, clapping his hands.
"Hold on, Vector. Merbians? Are you crazy enough to believe in those?" Espio asked Vector, scratching his chin.
"Well, maybe they ARE real! And if they are, we could snatch them and bring them in for big sums of cash!" Vector replied, clapping his hands.
"Whatever you say, Vector..." Espio said, shrugging.
"Charmy, go out to get some camera equipment, because we're going to show our adventures in Merbian hunting to the world!" Vector ordered Charmy.
"Sure thing, Vector!" Charmy said, flying out of the building to go get camera equipment.
That night, while Sally was sleeping, she was having a dream. In her dream, she was sitting on a rock above the sea surface with Sonic in her Mermunk form, dipping her tail in the water so she wouldn't dry out. "Say, Sally, I was wondering...I've known about your Mermunk thingamajiggy for about a month now, and I wanted to ask you...Could you perhaps turn me into a Merhog so that we can...Y'know, spend time as Merbians together?" Sonic asked Sally.
Sally lightly smiled at Sonic. "Of course, Sonic." She replied as her hands began glowing blue and held them out to Sonic. Sonic smiled back at Sally and took her hands. A bright blue light then flashed, and Sonic's legs were replaced by a long blue fishtail. The fins at the bottom of his tail were the same color as his shoes, and he had blue waistband at the top of his tail. Sonic smiled as he flipped his tail a bit. He couldn't believe this was real.
"Whoa, I can't believe it! I'm a Merhog!" Sonic exclaimed, smiling still.
Sally smiled and nodded. "Come on, Sonic. I'll show you the wonders of the deep you've been missing out on all this time." She told the newly turned Merhog as she dove into the water. Sonic followed her, and looked around under the water. He then smiled at Sally.
"Whoa, this is so cool! I can speak normally and even breathe underwater! I bet I can now swim really fast too!" Sonic said as he continued to look around the underwater world he had become part of in awe.
Sally giggled. "Yep! I'll race you to Merbiana!" She said before she sped off like a torpedo towards Merbiana, leaving a trail of bubbles behind her.
Sonic chuckled as he had a cocky smile on his face. "Oh, you're on, Sal!" He called to her before speeding off like a torpedo after Sally, leaving a trail of bubbles behind him as well. The Merbian couple sped through the ocean, and while doing so, Sonic looked around, amazed at all the sea creatures he saw.
Eventually, the two made it to Merbiana, with Sonic getting there earlier than Sally. Sally swam up to Sonic, giggling. "You won that race. I wouldn't expect anything less from you, Sonic. Even as a Merhog, you're still the fastest thing alive." Sally told Sonic, smiling.
"I won with ease." Sonic replied with a chuckle, flexing his tail.
Sally giggled a bit more, rolling her eyes. "Yeah, you sure did."
Sonic then looked at Merbiana. "Wow, cool Merbian city!" He exclaimed.
"Welcome to Merbiana!" Sally told Sonic with a smile. That's when the two noticed Arya swimming up to them.
"Hey, Sally! Glad to see you back here again!" Arya told Sally with a smile as she embraced her.
"I'm glad to be back too." Sally replied with a smile as she embraced her Mermunk friend too. "Arya, I'd like you to meet my boyfriend, Sonic the Hedgehog, the Hero of Mobius. I turned him into a Merhog so he could see the wonders of the deep he's been missing out on. Sonic, I'd like you to meet Arya Fishgerald, Princess of Merbiana. She's been teaching me about being a Mermunk all this time." Sally said as she introduced Arya and Sonic to each other.
"It's nice to finally meet you, Sonic!" Arya told Sonic with a smile as she shook his hand.
"Hi, Arya. It's nice to finally meet you as well." Sonic smiled as he shook Arya's hand back.
"Let's show Sonic around the city! I'm sure he'll like it here!" Arya suggested to Sally.
Sally smiled. "Yeah, let's do that!" She giggled before the two Mermunk girls swam off into the city, with Sonic following behind. "How about we take him to The Fish Bowl first?" Sally suggested to Arya.
"Yeah, I bet he'd love the food there!" Arya agreed. The girls swam to The Fish Bowl and Sonic followed. He didn't mind the girls leading him around, since this was his first time in the city.
Soon after, the three Merbians arrived at The Fish Bowl and went inside before sitting down at a table. They all grabbed a menu and began reading through it. "Man, all this food looks so good!" Sonic remarked with a grin as he read through the menu.
Sally and Arya giggled. "You gotta pick one thing, Sonic." Arya told him as she jokingly stuck out her tongue at the cobalt blue Merhog.
"I know, I know." Sonic chuckled before Red swam up to the trio's table.
"Hello, Arya. Hello, Sally. What can I get you girls and your friend?" The Merbat asked the trio with a smile.
"I'll just have the usual, Red." Arya replied with a smile as she put down her menu.
"I'll have the Merbiana Cream Broth with a glass of sea cucumber juice, please." Sally replied with a smile as she also put down her menu.
"And I'll have the Whole Roast Pheasant served with baked corn balls and smothered in a rich tomato sauce along with a glass of sea lime soda, please." Sonic replied with a kind smile as he also put down his menu.
Red nodded as she wrote down the trio's orders. "Alright. Your food will be with you soon." The Merbat waitress told the trio before swimming off again. Sonic, Sally and Arya then leaned closer towards each other so they could have a quiet conversation with each other.
"Man, that waitress looks a lot like Rouge, don't you think, Sally?" Sonic quietly asked the brown Mermunk.
Sally nodded in agreement. "That's what I first thought when I saw her, so you're not the only one there." She replied to him. Sonic, Sally and Arya continued to talk a little while longer until their food arrived.
"Enjoy the food, you three." Red smiled at the trio after putting their plates and glasses down on the table.
"Thank you, Red!" The trio replied before Red swam off again. They then began eating.
"Man, this food is great! A true feast for Merbians such as ourselves!" Sonic chuckled as he ate. Sally and Arya giggled as they also ate. After eating, Arya paid for the food and the trio left The Fish Bowl again. Sally and Arya then showed Sonic around Merbiana for the rest of the day until it was time for Sonic and Sally to head home. They said goodbye to Arya and then swam back to the surface before sitting down on the same rock they sat on earlier that day.
Sonic and Sally were watching the sunset together as they sat on the rock in their Merbian forms, dipping their tails in the water. "I guess water isn't so bad after all..." Sonic told Sally as he looked at the brown Mermunk with a smile. Sally returned the smile. "I love you, my little Mermunk." The cobalt blue Merhog added.
"I love you too." Sally smiled before she and Sonic began to kiss. The dream then ended as Sally woke up and found she was kissing her pillow. Her eyes widened in realization of this and turned around as she laid herself down on her back.
"Man, why do those dreams have to be so real...?" Sally muttered before she closed her eyes and went back to sleep.
