Spider-Man drops down to the docks just before Freya and John enter and see the wreckage in front of them. The Osprey burns bright as Spider-Man starts to look around for survivors. John and Freya split up to help Spider-Man look for any potential survivors. The doctor waltzes around a broken wing before he finds a young agent pinned underneath the debris. ISAC scans the body before chirping a report.
"Life sign found. Minor injuries detected."
"We got to pull him out!" The medic shouts.
Spider-Man turns and sees the agent trapped under the wing. He immediately runs over and grabs the wing while John grabs hold of the agent's legs. As soon Spider-Man lifts the wing, John and Freya pull the unconscious agent out.
John flips the body over. Freya gasps. It's Shane O'Connor. John doesn't say a word and places his hand on the agent's neck and chest. Then he glances back at Spider-Man and sticks his thumb up.
"He's breathing. But he's feeling weak without proper medical equipment. Hold on..."
John pats Shane's body down from the chest and stops at the legs. He grabs the agent's first aid launcher and injects a health stimulus into the sniper's body. The young agent gasps a breath of life a few seconds later. John waves Freya and Spider-Man away with his hand.
"He's good as new. Go find any other survivors."
"No need to tell me twice." Freya replies.
A voice cries out from a distance.
Freya snaps her head to a terribly injured Faye Lau crawling to a knocked-out Oliver. Freya hurries over as Faye tries to pull Oliver back in her arm. She falls back and grabs her leg and cries in pain. Freya arrives and lifts Faye up onto her feet.
"Ah! My leg!" Faye cried.
"Sorry." Freya grunts. "Just lean on me."
"How the hell are we going to get to Manhattan?" Spider-Man thinks to himself.
At that moment, a small helicopter touches down in the landing zone. The pilot steps out to help Freya bring Faye into the helicopter. John pulls Shane to stand up and lead him into the helicopter. Spider-Man carries the unconscious Oliver on his shoulders. Many thoughts circulated in his head as he sat down and takes an empty seat at the back.
"How did this happen?" Spider-Man thought to himself. "Please wake up, Oliver. I can't let you go."
The doors close. The pilot brings the helicopter up into the air and starts flying across the river between Brooklyn to Manhattan. John sits next to Faye and pulls out his medical kit. Spider-Man watches the doctor wrapping a bandage around Faye's face and eye before glancing back at the unconscious police officer.
Once John finishes with the bandages, Faye quickly takes a syringe from the medical kit and holds Oliver down.
"Wake up!" Faye stabs the syringe in Oliver's neck. "We need you!"
Oliver shoots up from his seat. Spider-Man sighs a breath of relief as Oliver sits up right. Shane pats the half Russian's shoulder as he calms down.
"Good to have you back." Shane pats Oliver's shoulder as he sits up.
"Yeah, you're going to be ok." Faye winces. "Hell, you're doing better than me."
"Clearly, Ma'am." Oliver coughs. "What just happened?"
"Our ride blew up. Having fun in a news chopper?" Freya smirks quickly before it fades.
"Yeah, that explosion took out the commander." Faye replies. "We still got a job to do. It's just..."
Faye is interrupted as the pilot turns his head around to the back and spoke to his passengers.
"Landing in one minute. You should see Manhattan coming up on my right."
On cue, Spider-Man and the rest of the agents look out of the window from the helicopter. Manhattan seemed to be in worse shape than Brooklyn with some of the apartment complexes still burning below. A large sheet of fabric was hanging out of the window with words written in red "God help us."
"What exactly is going on down there?"
Spider-Man slowly turns away from the window as the helicopter prepares to land. The JTF gives his landing authorization codes and announces his report of what happened in Brooklyn. Then, Faye reaches out to get him and the agents attention.
"I found a little more about the first wave. They are either dead or MIA." Faye reports with a bit of gloom. "So... This is up to us. That's why we need to get together. Right. Now."
"JTF six-eight to tower. Visual Hudson." The pilot notifies the ground team on his radio. "Yeah, I've got five division agents and Spider-Man on board. No, I'm not kidding. It's really him. Yep, that explosion was their ride in. Clear to land. JTF six-eight out."
The pilot puts his radio away and steers the helicopter to land at Camp Clinton. Faye opens the door but stops and turns her head to the agents.
"Usually, you have a few minutes to count on someone." She says to the agents. "Well, we are out of time. My bet is on your five. I hope to god I'm right."
"You got nothing to worry about, Agent Lau." Spider-Man says. "I trust these four enough with my life. They won't let you down."
"Really? I don't have a lot of time to know your friends." She turns to the four agents. "No offense, but we all that's left if we want to take the city back and I hope you four can make it count."
"I was in the NYPD SWAT team and lead many brave officers into and out of dangerous situations before the virus hit." Oliver sits up. "He's saved my ass more than a couple of times than I can count. That doesn't mean I had some moments of helping him out. I'll lead the agents the same way I lead my squad."
"I'm a former Marine who had nowhere to go when I left Afghanistan. I used my talents to work with low lives to gang leaders in killing their enemies." Shane pipes up. "Then, I joined as an undercover, worked with Oliver, and put my talents to good use. I weaseled my way to help Spider-Man out on some occasions while he made sure my cover wasn't blown. My aim is as good as my word."
"Freya Springfield, reporter from the Daily Bugle." She says a bit excitedly, but also with some restraint. "I've covered revolutionaries in Venezuela, the war in Afghanistan, and some intense police crackdowns in Manhattan. There's two things you need to remember, I make sure my stories are right and I can handle a gun as good with a notepad and pen."
"I'm a certified doctor who volunteers at FEAST, a homeless shelter in Manhattan and Harlem area. I've treated many people in this city and no one has died on my hospital bed, especially Spider-Man whenever he had to get patched up." John says. "I won't let one agent, one civilian, or a hero die on my watch."
The senior Division agent seemed convinced as she leaned back. The helicopter finally lands. The division agents and wall crawler step out. One JTF soldier pulls the masked hero to the side. Another JTF begins to check on Faye Lau's bandages.
"Welcome to Hudson Piers, Spidey. I can't believe it's you." The JTF commander hollers over the helicopter rotors. "I'm not sure what you're looking to get out of this. Everything behind this gate is a goddamn warzone."
"Who's in charge here?" Faye shouts in.
"Captain BenÃtez was in charge. He was running ops in the post office, but we lost contact with him when he left base this morning. If he's still radio silent by tomorrow morning, there's talk about pulling out."
"No one is pulling out. We're taking the city back."
"Hell yeah!" Oliver agrees. "Good to hear the captain is alive."
"Take whatever gear you need. I'll meet you all over there." Faye is led away by a JTF officer.
"Will do," Spider-Man stretches his arms out.
"Good luck." A third JTF soldier says to the group of five. "You'll need it."
Freya runs over to a vendor selling some weapons. She returns with a Super Marine 90 shotgun and switches the safety off before clipping it to her bag.
"Ready to go out there?" Oliver says.
"Yeah, let's get to the post office." Freya shouts with cheerful excitement.
The four division agents start to leave. However, Spider-Man stops and looks one way to the streets.
The city is broken. I cannot go yet. Peter tenses up a little. I need to check up on a few places. I need to know if they're ok; MJ, Miles, Aunt May... The post office can wait.
"You guys go on ahead. I'll meet you there later."
Oliver stops and stays for a minute. He nods and slips his black heavy SWAT helmet on. "Sure. But keep in contact with me, please."
Spider-Man nods back and leaps up. He swings away in a hurry as the division agents begin their route to the post office.
-Last Week-
Spider-Man was swinging around the city to hunt down a super-villain. He lands on the roof where a criminal named the Shocker was supposedly hiding. It didn't take him long to find the serial bank robber leaning back against the wall. He had his mask off. Shocker's head slowly turns to the hero and gasps a weak breath along with a weak dying chuckle.
"Guess... you're here to take me in." The Shocker wheezes pathetically. He turns over to his bag of money and uses all of his remaining strength to blast it away with his gauntlets. Then, he slips his mask back on. "The money was contaminated. Worse than a dye pack. On the bright side, I'm done... with... this crap..."
Shocker's body slumps to the side and lays motionless.
"The dollar flu got him too." He grabs a tarp and lays it over the bank robber, being careful not to touch his body. "He didn't need to go out like that."
His cell phone rings. He presses his headset to answer it.
"Peter, where are you? Are you sick?"
It's Aunt May. Spider-Man smiles under his mask as he hears her voice.
"No, I'm fine." Peter says. "I'm safe at the lab. I haven't touched any cash."
"Good. I'm happy to hear that."
"Yeah. How about you?"
"Busy and it's getting worse. We've locked ourselves in due to the looting, rioting, and violence outside. FEAST cannot take any more people in."
"Sorry to hear that." Spider-Man leaps off the roof and starts swinging. "I'll head over."
"That would be great, Peter. Hope you get there safely."
Just then, another phone call rings in.
"Iron Curtain to Spider-Man." Sergeant Borkovic calls. "What's the status on Shocker?"
"I found him, thanks to your Irish informant. But the Dollar Flu ended his criminal career."
"That sucks." The SWAT officer barely shows remorse. "We got a riot near the mayor's office. Can you try to handle them before we arrive?"
Spider-Man tenses up. "On my way, Ollie."
He calls Aunt May back to tell her he can't make it. She reassures him that it's ok since she wanted him to be safe. The last thing he heard from her before hanging up to continue helping the city as Spider-Man was that she would hold down FEAST as long as she can, no matter how bad the epidemic grew.
-Spider-Man-
Now, he's back to set it lands on top of a rooftop overlooking what was the FEAST center. He falls silent as gloom washes over him as he sees what the lovely building had become. Memories from a week back came in. Now, it's empty and signs of life were next to nonexistent. The doors chained up, the metal railing on the concrete stairs were scorched black, and a couple of bodies bags left outside of the front door.
Spider-Man wanted to poke around, but what if the building was contaminated with the dollar flu? He leaps in front of the building.
"Is there a way for ISAC to find out if the FEAST Center is contaminated...?" He mutters out loud.
Suddenly, the robotic voice rang into his built-in mask. It hummed for a few seconds.
Scanning area... FEAST Center signs of contamination; negative.
"Well, that's good and useful... Thanks ISAC..."
He leaps down the building and slowly climbs into the building. He passes by the main front desk before reaching the main floor where they sleep. All he could see were beds burnt to a crisp. Suddenly, an image appears in his heads-up display as ISAC makes an announcement.
ECHO Detected
"An Echo?" He scratches his head as it displays the option to activate the echo. He activates the Echo to see what it does.
Spider-Man steps back shocked as orange 3D images fill the gymnasium. It felt like nothing more than a history museum of the past while he slowly walks around. His hand goes through one of the images; definitely holographic. The room projected beautifully detailed images of people he helped as a volunteer. His head snaps out to the main lobby and this echo of the past continues from there.
He returns to the main lobby and is welcomed with a grim scene. A police officer stands in front of a group of people. He's pointing his barrel at the door with his pistol. ISAC projects a pop-up message that shows the officer's face along with his name, age, and current status.
Name: Jefferson Davis
Occupation: NYPD Officer (Former)/ JTF Officer
Status: Alive
Suddenly, the echo starts replay the story, adding sound to it. He hears some heavy respiratory breathing behind the door. A garbage truck outside screeches to a halt. There were some cries and panicked gasps.
"Don't open the door." JTF officer Davis yells. "They're armed!"
"Guys, there's some infected in here." A muffled voice by a gas mask huffs from the outside. "Let's get in there."
Spider-Man shook his head. ISAC indicated the NYPD officer and the patrons in FEAST had no signs of the dollar flu. Still, who were these crusaders trying to break in? He couldn't see what they looked like behind the front door. He can hear glass shatter and flames roaring from the outside.
"They're trying to burn their way in!" One patron cries out. "What are we going to do?"
"Get Back!" The lone JTF officer shouts.
"Are those flamethrowers? Are they trying to burn the place down?"
"Flamethrowers? Who are these people?"
He then notices a holographic image of an elder woman walking down the steps.
"The emergency exit out the back is clear." She shouts in a whisper. "Officer, it's time to go."
"Alright, Ma'am." The officer nods. "Everyone, grab what you can carry and get out of the back quietly. I'll keep them busy from here."
The show ends. Spider-Man walks up to the elder woman who may have saved FEAST. ISAC gladly displays information.
Name: May Parker
Occupation: Director of Food. Emergency. Aid. Shelter. and Training. (F.E.A.S.T)
Status: Alive
Peter blinks a couple of times before he takes a huge breath of relief. Tears slowly trickle from his eyes inside the mask as the last part gave him a bit of hope.
"Aunt May is alive." He notices a hologram of Miles and Mary Jane at the back to lead groups of survivors out of the emergency exit. ISAC IDed them and indicated they're both alive. Even better news in such a dark situation. He sits on the steps and takes off his mask. Peter looks at the image of Aunt May one last time. She's alive, so she has to be somewhere hopefully safe. The guilt for not being there finally washes away.
"ISAC, thank you so much for that."
Incoming Transmission
"Spidey, we got trouble at the Post office. Rioters are pushing a massive assault." Oliver reports. "Get over there as soon as possible."
Spider-Man runs out of the building and leaps up to swing his way toward the agents' position.
