"Mommy! I'm ready to go!" Valentino announced, jumping out of his race car bed and running over to grab his backpack at full speed. This was the best day ever in his eyes.
"Hi, Sweetie. You're already awake, wow!" Brittany smiled at how enthusiastic he was, kissing her son on the cheek. "Don't forget to pack your snorkel."
"I have it right here, Mommy!"
It was adorable how giddy with excitement he was when she went to wake him up and help him get ready. Valentino had been constantly talking about their trip for weeks and now that they had reached the end of July, it was finally time for them to catch their flight. His blonde mom had the idea of dressing him the night before since they were going to be up at 3 a.m. the next day.
"I'm gonna go on the airplane!" He squealed, hugging his black cat plushie tightly. He had been on a few trips with Brittany before but didn't remember them so well because he was so little. He was obsessed with anything to do with planes and trains, so his parents knew this would be a huge deal for him.
"That's right, Kitten!" Brittany laughed, making sure to brush his curly hair and wash his face. She smiled to herself, shaking her head as she heard Santana stumbling around in a half asleep state. None of them got much sleep.
"So not looking forward to eleven hours spent on a plane." Santana groaned under her breath, in between a yawn as she helped Brittany lift suitcases in her car then made sure Valentino was in his booster seat.
"I know, Honey. Don't worry, everything will be fine. Besides, you know I'll be there to cheer you up."
"That does make it way better," Santana admitted, as Brittany's playful smile and the way she kissed her lips briefly had already cheered her up so much. She glanced over at Brittany, thinking about how cute the blonde was in an old pair of washed out jeans and a grey hoodie - that looked suspiciously like one of Santana's hoodies - pulled over her black and white striped t-shirt. The blonde looked adorable with barely any makeup on and her long, fair hair in tousled waves. "Talk about a sight for sore eyes. You look so beautiful, Britt."
"So do you, Sexy," Brittany brushed her lips against her cheek as she laughed when Santana kept pausing to admire her. "I'm not even dressed up, Santana and my face is all pale and puffy."
"Really? I didn't notice that. You just look like an angel," Santana noticed the pink flush painting Brittany's cheeks as she went quiet for a long moment. The darker woman smirked. "Does it make you flustered when I call you beautiful?"
The blonde pressed her lips sweetly against hers instead of answering. Suddenly Santana felt wide awake as she cupped Brittany's cheek. She loved the sugary taste of her lips, along with that light, flowery scent that was so distinctly Brittany.
"No, Moms! Stop kissing so much!" Valentino shouted from the backseat in a whiny voice, interrupting them as he cackled with laughter. "You're always smooching each other!"
Santana and Brittany giggled at their son's comments as they separated. Santana frowned, thinking about the trip. She hated flying at the best of times, although she'd never openly admit to her fear of it. Brittany was the only one who knew about how nervous she'd get.
She had to be strong for Brittany and their son. As tired as she was, the big smiles on Brittany and their son's faces made it all worth it. Now that she knew she had a son, Santana wanted to show him so many things in the world and make sure he got to experience everything. Santana's own parents had taken her on many trips since she was a child and she still had good memories of them.
Not long after Santana drove onto the highway, she noticed how quiet Valentino had become. Brittany nudged her, pointing behind them and a soft smile came to Santana's lips when she saw him dozing off in the rearview mirror. After all of his excitement that morning, he still couldn't keep his eyes open for long.
"Hey, Brittany and Santana! Over here!" A short woman with blue-streaked black hair waved to them from the check in area when they arrived. Santana grumbled under her breath when she saw Tina and Brittany smiled at her girlfriend's token protest. They were met at the airport by Brittany's parents, along with Tina and Mike who were joining them for the trip.
"Do the goth and her dancer boy have to come with us?" Santana grumbled to Brittany under her breath.
As much as Tina wasn't Santana's biggest fan and the feeling was mutual, the short, gothic woman was never one to pass up the opportunity to go on a tropical luxury vacation, especially when her very rich boyfriend was paying for it.
Whitney and Pierce had huge smiles on their faces, pulling the family into crushing bear hugs. Valentino ran to his grandparents as soon as he saw them, throwing his arms around them and Whitney picked him up, carrying him around for a while. Of course, they were both wearing really over the top, insanely bright and Hawaiian-themed clothes which made Brittany cringe.
As both she and the blonde predicted, Brittany's parents were totally confused about the technology and hadn't travelled for a while, so the two women had to help them.
"Mommy, I'm going on the plane! Airplane! Airplane!" Val shrieked when they were sitting around in the departure lounge, climbing onto Brittany's lap. He started singing and Brittany whispered into his ear after a while as Santana groaned, covering her face.
"Shh, Sweetheart, please don't be so loud. Mami is tired and she has a headache."
"Okay. Sorry, Mami." He replied. Santana opened one eye and couldn't help but smile at her son's sweetness as he gave her an apologetic kiss while Brittany and her parents fawned over how cute he was.
Once they boarded and found their seats, Valentino was practically quivering from excitement, a huge smile on his face after an air stewardess gave him a wing pin that he proudly wore on his chest. Tina and Mike were sitting a few rows ahead of them with Whitney and Pierce not far from the couple. They sat Valentino in the window seat with Brittany in the middle and he was already looking out the window in awe even though they hadn't even taken off yet.
"Mami, look at my badge! Isn't it cool?"
"Very cool." Santana smirked, kissing his forehead. It surprised her that she felt so affectionate toward him all the time, considering the only person she ever really wanted to touch voluntarily was Brittany but Valentino was quite literally the embodiment of their love for each other.
Embodiment of their love? When did she become such a sap?
She really did love Brittany. More than she had ever loved another woman. The thought of it made her almost overwhelmed and dizzy with how wonderful it felt. Yet it was so terrifying. She loved Brittany but she didn't exactly know how to put her feelings for her into words.
Valentino yelped when the plane began moving really fast as they prepared to take off. Santana could completely understand how he felt as she gripped onto the armrest tightly, gritting her teeth. Brittany cuddled close to the boy, squeezing him while she held Santana's hand at the same time. It was incredible how the blonde always knew exactly how to get her and their son to calm down.
Brittany kept watching her with these cute, secretive little glances and Santana smirked when she realized her girlfriend was thinking the same thing she was. Being on a trip like this with Brittany sure brought back memories of when they were together before. There was something about going on a vacation with Brittany that always put Santana in a good mood.
"Remember all those trips to Miami and Cali? That weekend in Mexico?"
"I got totally burned up like a lobster when we went to that resort in Cancún and had sunstroke for days. It was so bad!" Brittany giggled. "Good thing you were there to help me."
"That night when we got totally drunk in that club dancing the night away on Laguna Beach and they kicked me out for picking that fight with those guys who were hitting on you," Santana pointed out with a grin. "Everyone knows I totally won that fight."
The blonde bit her lip, thinking about how in love with Santana she had felt as they swayed together for most of the night. She remembered how it felt like she was in paradise with the woman as she grinded against her, their sun-warmed skin salty with sweat and the taste of tequila on her lover's lips. She never had a dance partner who made her feel the way Santana did.
"You were so sexy telling them off. Everything was perfect… and then when you couldn't wait to get me back to the hotel room and we… right on the beach behind that big rock… and in the water with you holding me up. It was my first time skinny dipping."
Santana shivered and closed her eyes, crossing her legs as a wave of arousal came over her at Brittany's words. Meanwhile, Brittany felt a flush rise to her own cheeks as she squirmed in her seat and noticed how Santana was clenching the armrests with her jaw tightened and a telltale look of arousal on her face.
"Britt, as much as I appreciate going on this trip down memory lane, you're killing me."
"Moms, you're acting weird," Valentino looked up from his colouring book and pulled the earbuds out of his ears as he frowned in confusion at the two of them. "What's skinny dipping?"
"It's when you go into the water to swim naked." Brittany explained as Valentino gave her a scandalized look then laughed as if she told him something completely ridiculous.
"That's silly, Mommy! You're not supposed to be naked! I don't know why you and Mami would want to do that naked!" He told her at full volume, giggling at how silly his moms were as Santana blushed when the other passengers nearby turned around to stare at them.
"Sweetie, do you want some more?" Brittany offered him a bite of one of her peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. He accepted it happily, sipping his chocolate milk and getting a little milk moustache.
Santana had wondered how their hyperactive son was going to handle being stuck in a seat for hours but Brittany packed about a million snacks and toys to keep him entertained, which helped a lot.
"You really thought of everything, Britt. I'd have never thought of all this," Santana whispered in awe, looking over at her girlfriend appreciatively. "You're so good at this… such a perfect mom."
"Mami, I really need to go. Can you take me?" Val looked up at her pleadingly, swinging his legs and squirming in his seat. He basically climbed onto Santana's lap as he tried to get past her while the woman groaned. He had already spilled all his drinks on her and made her colour with him then told her she did it wrong.
"Wait, hold up. You just went like six times already, Kid. Are you sure you really need to go again?" Santana arched an eyebrow, looking at him skeptically.
"I think he's bored and just wants to stretch his legs." Brittany whispered into her ear.
"Okay, whatever, Kid. C'mon, let's go." Santana couldn't handle the way he was looking at her with those big brown eyes like a sad kitten and eventually took his hand. In the middle of them walking back to their seats, Valentino began to whimper, stomping up and down. Santana looked at him in confusion. He had just been to the bathroom again for the thousandth time. She wished she had a guidebook on how to handle children sometimes.
"What? What happened? You need to pee again?"
"Mami, I dropped my kitty! I can't find her!" He started to cry and the other passengers gave her accusatory looks. Santana rolled her eyes at them. She put her hands on his shoulders, leaning down. She could barely understand what he was telling her in a garbled voice through his sobs.
"Your what? Oh!" Santana sighed, glancing around to see where the black cat plushie could be. "Okay, fine… It's okay, there's no reason to cry over this. Look, go sit with Mommy. I'll find it for you. I promise."
He just stood there crying with a helpless expression and Santana sighed, eventually picking him up, even though it was difficult for her to lift him and took him back to his seat as he sobbed dramatically, clinging to her shirt. Santana sat him in Brittany's lap as her girlfriend looked up at her in confusion and surprise but wrapped her arms around her son.
"Oh no, what happened, Kitten?"
"He dropped his cat. I'll go find her." Santana explained to her as the boy continued to wail while Brittany tried to soothe him.
After a lot of searching and getting into arguments with a few bitchy passengers, Santana walked back to them with the cat plushie in hand. She kept hearing her son crying as he whined incoherent things to his mother about the cat and then kept asking where his mami was while Brittany assured him that everything was okay.
The boy, who Brittany had wrapped up in a blanket as she rocked him, stopped crying immediately when he saw it, his brown eyes lit up. Oddly enough, his reaction made it all worth it. She really was becoming a sap.
"Honey, Mami didn't run away, I promise. She's just a few rows behind us. Oh look what Mami found! See, she's right here. Your naughty kitty just got away from you. Maybe she was looking for mice."
"But we found her!" He grinned, calming down. "Mami, you came back!"
"That's right, I'm back. This mom business is tough." Santana turned Brittany with a sigh as she said the last part, resting back into the chair in exhaustion.
"You're doing such a good job," Brittany gushed. She leaned in closer so only Santana could hear her. "It's seriously such a turn on to see you looking after him so well."
Santana was speechless at that, her face feeling hot.
On the connecting flight, Valentino slept for about an hour to his parents' relief, snuggled up in Brittany's arms. She lay him down in his own seat eventually, bundled up in his blanket and clutching his plushie. Santana pushed her armrest back, accepting part of the blanket that Brittany offered to share with her.
"Britt!" Santana mumbled, not expecting it when the blonde's face was close to hers as she pulled the blanket up to cover most of their faces. "What are you doing?"
"Kissing you, Silly." Brittany mouthed so quietly that Santana could barely make out her words but the Latina immediately gave in to the soft kiss that grew a little more heated. It felt so good and it took everything Santana had to get her to pull away when she remembered where they were.
"We shouldn't."
"No one can see us. They're all sleeping anyway," Brittany assured her, her hands doing some seriously distracting things on Santana's body. "Since when did you of all people not want to join the mile high club? Remember that flight back from Mexico…"
Santana closed her eyes, taking a deep breath as she tried to tame her arousal. She was so horny on flights, especially with Brittany being right there. She remembered the rush of adrenaline it gave her and the way they had to rush through a quickie then make it back to their seats while some of the more observant passengers were giving them funny looks as they adjusted their clothes, Brittany's cheeks still red and her lips kiss-swollen. The way Brittany was stroking her knee up to her thigh was driving her insane.
"Britt, not saying I'm not enjoying this but if you keep touching me like this I swear to God I'm gonna take you in that bathroom and get us arrested for public indecency."
"Hmm, I really wish I could take you up on that offer."
"You're seriously playing with fire here, Babe."
Brittany giggled, pulling her into one last deep kiss before they forced themselves to separate, Santana still clenching her legs together. The blonde felt her heart racing and it was a struggle to think about anything other than how much she wanted Santana.
Valentino rolled over in his sleep, leaning against Santana who was now sitting in the middle of them and Brittany smiled at how cute and endearing her girlfriend was with that awkward look on her face as she let him lay his head there and didn't move because she didn't want to wake him up.
Valentino was in awe of everything he saw when they drove up to the resort. He kept squealing about the beach and palm trees that they could see in the distance.
"Where do you guys want to go?" Tina asked while Santana groaned, already rambling at full speed about all of the things she wanted to do on Maui and the other islands. "I literally can't wait to check everything out. Mike and I are gonna head down to the pool. I heard the swim up bar's amazing."
"Jesus Christ, Chang, you're starting to remind me of Rachel with all that high speed blabbering. Gonna have to pass on that, Goth. This jet lag is killing me," Santana groaned, rubbing her eyes. Brittany squeezed her hand comfortingly. "You definitely need the tan though, so you should go for it."
"I know, Babe. Kitten is exhausted too. We can just stay in for tonight. There's plenty of time left to do everything." Brittany told her.
"Suit yourself," Tina shrugged, narrowing her eyes at Santana's remarks as she turned to her. "You're awfully cranky. Guess the munchkin must have really tired you out, Lopez. It's not like you two to miss out on poolside luxury. We'll meet you guys for breakfast tomorrow."
"Wait, where are we again? Are we back in the Caribbean?" Pierce asked, in a disoriented state. Whitney sighed, whispering something to him. "Oh yeah! Thanks again for the trip, Santana."
"N-no problem, Mr. Pierce." The Latina stammered politely.
Santana owned a house in Maui but they decided that staying at a resort right on Wailea Beach for at least the first couple of days would be the best option as they would have access to all kinds of fun activities to do with Valentino. The three couples were relieved when they finally made it to the hotel and the check in was over. Santana had reserved a hotel room for the Pierces as well, across from theirs on the other end of the same floor.
"Oh wow, it's so beautiful!" The blonde gasped, in awe as she took everything in. Santana had spared no expense in their hotel room, clearly. There was even a jacuzzi in the master bedroom… Brittany made a mental note to entice Santana into getting into it with her as soon as possible. There was also a stunning view of the beach from the patio area.
"Fancy, fancy!" Val shouted, running around in circles. The two women laughed, amazed at how much energy he still had left. It didn't take long for him to start crashing out though, as Brittany knew would happen.
"Do you want to have a nap?" Brittany asked, noticing how Val was yawning constantly and stumbling around the hotel room even though he was making a determined effort to stay awake. They had ordered room service since they were all starving but the boy was so tired that he wasn't able to eat much. She patted the couch beside her and he jumped onto it.
"No, Mommy, I don't need a…" He passed out in the middle of his sentence with his head resting in her lap as she stroked his hair.
"Aww. He's totally out cold." Brittany cooed as Santana rolled her eyes at her son's stubbornness but was unable to keep the smile off of her own face. The dark-haired woman gently lifted the boy off of his mother and carried him to his room, tucking him into his bed with Brittany's help.
Brittany excused herself with a sultry smile that made Santana's head spin trying to figure out what it meant as she went into the bathroom to shower.
"I have something to show you." She announced when she returned, slipping off her towel.
Santana couldn't take her eyes off of the sight of Brittany in the new bikini she bought. Her jaw dropped comically. When she planned a beach vacation with her girlfriend, she hadn't exactly factored in how difficult it was going to be to keep her hands off of her when she was wearing practically nothing and all of that pale, gorgeous skin was on full display.
"Hmm, you suddenly look wide awake," Brittany teased, twirling around to show her the back of the super revealing, baby blue swimsuit. "What do you think of this bikini?"
"I think… you just cured my jet lag, Babe," Santana grabbed her waist, pulling her closer and tugging on the waistband of the tiny bikini bottom. "But this would be way better on our bedroom floor."
Brittany gasped when Santana pulled her into her lap and swept her up into a passionate kiss. Her hands drifted up the blonde's legs and gave her ass a firm squeeze as their tongues met. Brittany felt a flush rise up her neck and cheeks as the kiss became more intense. She pressed down with her hips, putting pressure against Santana's core and heard the woman groan. Santana eventually pulled back and put some distance between them with a tortured look on her face, laying her head back on the couch and closing her eyes.
"Sorry. This is totally embarrassing because I'm trying to be all smooth and sexy for you but I honest to fucking God can't keep my eyes open and falling asleep while I'm trying to get my mack on with you would be even more humiliating."
"Santana, it's totally okay," Brittany giggled against her lips. "I understand. Let's just sleep."
"Ugh, as much as I'd give up sleep and anything else to kiss you instead, for once I can't even argue with you there."
Santana slumped against her. Brittany just shook her head in amusement and slipped her hand into her girlfriend's then lead her into their bedroom. It was a long walk as Santana was swaying on her feet and bumping into things. Brittany smiled when Santana immediately flopped onto the bed and passed out as the tall blonde curled in beside her.
Even though the Latina had been so respectful whenever she came over to her apartment, in the back of her mind, Brittany wondered how Santana would be able to resist the temptation given their current sleeping arrangements. For now, the blonde was content to snuggle into her girlfriend, wrapping her arms around her as they both drifted off.
"Mommy! Wake up!" Valentino rushed into their room first thing the next morning, pouncing on top of the two of them. "Mami, you're here too!?"
Brittany couldn't keep the smile off of her face as he jumped on their bed. Santana was still in a groggy, half asleep state so the blonde pressed a finger to her lips as she faced her son.
"Shh, Kitten. Mami's really tired and not feeling so well. Let's go outside."
"It's alright. I'm awake now." Santana groaned, slowly getting up and brushing her teeth in the on suite bathroom then raking a brush through her wild hair.
"Kitten, there's something important we need to tell you, okay," Brittany pulled him to her and sat him in her lap. She glanced over at Santana who looked at her curiously then nodded, encouraging her to go on. Although he had certainly seen them kiss and hold hands a lot, the Latina wondered how Brittany was going to handle explaining their relationship status to their son. "Your Mami and I are dating again, so sometimes you're going to see us sleep in the same bed, like that time when you had the bad dream and the three of us snuggled together. Is that okay?"
He nodded, tilting his head to the side as he took all of this in. Santana tensed up, expecting him to start wailing at any second.
"Ohh, okay, Mommy," Santana was relieved by how easily he accepted this and shared a look with Brittany. "Can we go to the pool now?"
"Yeah, we totally can, Sweetie. Let's go get changed into our swimsuits first."
"I can't believe he just gave in so easily after all his fussing." Santana shook her head as their son ran off.
Santana smirked at the way Brittany whistled at her when she walked out in her black bikini, making no effort to disguise the way she was leering at the dark-haired woman as she bent over and pulled on a pair of black shorts. She knew she looked hot with her lean, slightly muscular frame that she had spent plenty of time sculpting at the gym. She also knew that Brittany loved her abs.
"Like what you see, Britt?"
"Mm, I do." Santana was in the middle of pulling on a tank top over her bikini top when she was ambushed by a sexy blonde and they both laughed as she practically fell over when Brittany pressed her lips against hers. They were interrupted by Santana's stomach growling and Valentino demanding that they stop kissing so much.
"Mami, why are the pancakes burnt?"
Santana shook her head, smiling at her son's innocent, confused face. Brittany had just asked her the same thing. They were sitting across from Tina and Mike while Brittany's parents were still wandering around the buffet area.
"They're not burnt. They're just charcoal pancakes. They're good for you."
"Ohh," He still seemed confused but was happier after taking a bite of the ones Brittany cut up for him. "They taste like actual pancakes."
"They're like the evil version of them but they're misunderstood, so it's okay," Brittany explained and he nodded. It amused Santana how their son always understood Brittany's logic, even when she herself needed a moment to catch up. "Besides, black is your other favourite colour besides red, right?"
"Right, Mommy."
"So Chang Squared, when are you guys gonna just put a ring on it, already?" Santana smirked as Mike and Tina pulled apart from their - in Santana's opinion - nauseating display of affection.
The two fell silent and froze. Tina glanced at Mike, blushing at Santana's bluntness and looking at him expectantly as the man squirmed awkwardly. It was pretty obvious to Santana that this was a topic the two had discussed a lot before and maybe a point of contention.
"When are you two?" Tina countered with a smug grin of her own, pointing between her and Brittany who both felt heat rise to their face. Brittany had been in the middle of playing footsie with Santana under the table and gazing at her adoringly. Santana just shrugged her shoulders, trying to act casual even though her heart was beating wildly.
"I'm just saying, quit making out already at the table. You're making me lose my appetite."
"You're one to talk, Santana," Mike scoffed, chuckling as Tina rolled her eyes at the Latina. He lowered his voice, glancing at Valentino who wasn't paying much attention to the adults as he focused on the sheet he was colouring with crayons. "You two are all over each other every second of the day and we have to put up that. "
"Yeah but Britt and I are sexy. So we're doing the world a favour if they get to see any part of us together." Santana retorted, taking a sip from her coffee and trying to ignore the smug, knowing looks the other couple were giving them while Brittany laughed, agreeing with her.
Thankfully, Whitney and Pierce chose that moment to interrupt, sparing the two from further interrogation by Tina, who looked like she wanted to ask a lot more about their relationship. The group headed down to the pool area about half an hour later as that was the first place the little boy wanted to go.
Valentino loved the interconnected pools most of all and wanted to spend the entire day there, which was completely fine with Santana as she felt the same. There was nothing she could think of that was better than laying out on a deck chair with the sun warming her skin and watching her girlfriend traipse around in that tiny powder blue bikini as she rushed around to put extra sunblock on their son and then got into the pool with him. Brittany had taught him how to swim since he was little and Santana was proud of how comfortable he was in the water, even though he still complained about it getting in his eyes.
After stopping to have lunch together with the others, the two women decided to take their son down to the beach while the other couples went back up to their rooms.
"Mommy, gross, it's getting on me!" Valentino whimpered, jumping on Brittany and practically climbing up her leg. "I don't like it. It's getting in my slippers!"
"Sweetie, it's not gonna hurt you. You play in the sandbox all the time at home."
"Boy, you're on a beach. It's just sand," Santana replied flatly, rolling her eyes but eventually finding a way to lift and carry him when he continued whining about it because she couldn't handle another meltdown. Brittany smirked, shaking her head fondly because she knew for a fact that Santana had the same reaction as their son to sand… or anything outdoorsy. "Oof, okay Drama King, you're getting so big. This is a workout. You're gonna give me strong muscles."
"Ooo, look at the pretty seashells!" Brittany pointed out, nudging him. Santana was relieved, looking at Brittany gratefully when Valentino stopped sobbing and focused on all of the things Brittany pointed out to him.
Santana held his hand and took Valentino into the water later, trying to help him get accustomed to the waves while Brittany lay out on her beach towel to sunbathe for a while as she kept an eye on the two. It made her happy to hear him shrieking excitedly and jumping back whenever the waves crashed but having a great time as Santana chased him around in the shallow water. He was was over his fear of the sand on the beach as well. She trusted Santana to protect him.
"Hi, Brittany. Fancy seeing you here. You look more amazing than ever."
Brittany looked up when she heard a familiar drawl, stunned at the sight of a woman in a forest green bikini with a dark olive complexion. She recognized Lani's sharp cheekbones, predatory green eyes and long, dark brown hair. There was a tribal, Polynesian shark-tooth tattoo on the woman's bicep and a necklace with a shark tooth dangling from it that she had always worn around her neck. Her ex was the last person she expected to find on the beach.
"You don't remember me?" The woman asked, laughing as she sat beside Brittany, pulling her knees up to her chest.
"Oh, it's you!" Brittany greeted her, forcing a smile to her lips as she sat up and pretended to sound thrilled to see the woman with her shark-like eyes, even though she would much rather run back to the hotel and hide. "What brings you over here? Are you on vacation?"
"Beautiful, don't you remember I live here?" Lani threw back her head and laughed as Brittany blinked at her. "We talked all about my Polynesian dad and how much I'd love to take you surfing over here on the islands."
"You're right!" Brittany laughed awkwardly. Seeing Lani just brought back memories of her crying in her bedroom after being rejected yet again and Brittany suddenly felt far less confident about everything.
"Who is this?" Santana demanded, arching an eyebrow, frowning deeply as she marched over. Uh oh… Brittany recognized that tone of voice from Santana. "What do you want with Brittany?"
"Oh no! It's the mommy stealer!" Valentino shouted immediately, pointing accusingly at the surfer. "You're a bad guy and you need to stay away from my mommy!"
"He might be confused. Aren't you a charming little man?" Valentino scowled at her, shrinking away when she tried to bump fists with him. Santana smirked, pleased by his reaction.
"V, please don't set her on fire again." Brittany begged, noticing the way her son was looking at the woman.
"You set her on fire?" Santana up, impressed and fist bumped him. "Why didn't I think of that? Good job, Kiddo."
"Santana!" Brittany laughed, shaking her head at her girlfriend.
"What? It's funny."
"Hilarious. I see you and Brittany's son have a similar sense of humour. Kelani Kekoa but I'm sure you've already heard of me, you know…" Lani held out her hand for Santana to shake. Santana pointedly ignored it. "Oh but I've heard of you, your reputation precedes you, Santana. I have to be going but it's wonderful to see you again, Brittany. We have plenty of catching up to do. I'll see you around."
Lani winked at Brittany before she left while Santana glared at her with stormy black eyes, her fists clenched at her side. If looks could kill, Brittany was sure Lani would have just been brutally murdered. The black-haired woman and her son watched Lani with identical pouts on their faces.
"Mommy, why is that mommy stealer back again?" Valentino piped up. "Her tattoo is kinda cool though."
"Anyone can get a tattoo," Santana scoffed, "I can get a tattoo. I'll get a way bigger and better one than her dumbass, corny fish tattoo."
Brittany rolled her eyes at her girlfriend's boasting, shaking her head.
"Santana, last time I went with you to get a tattoo, I got my little cactus done in that town in Mexico and you said you were gonna get one too then you passed out in the chair before the needle could even touch you."
"Britt…" Santana groaned in embarrassment and covered her face as Valentino laughed. Brittany scooted closer to her, kissing her jaw and then her ear as Santana shivered, leaning into her touch.
"What? It was adorable. Don't you remember how I soothed you with kisses and then we… you know… all night."
"That made everything way better."
"But why is Lani even here on the beach?" Val whined again, still stuck on that and unaware of his parents' conversation. "I thought she wasn't coming back."
"Oh Lani lives here, Val. Baby Kitten, why don't you go build your sandcastle some more and I'll come help you in a little while." Brittany suggested, when she noticed how tense Santana still was and the way she maintained that serious frown on her face, looking more upset and annoyed than the blonde had seen her in a while.
"Okay, Mommy! Watch me!"
"Mommy Stealer?" Santana repeated, once they were alone. "What's he talking about Britt? You used to go out with her?"
Brittany sighed heavily, focusing on the whiskers of the cat drawing she was etching into the sand with one hand, frowning and pressing her lips together as she got lost in her thoughts.
"It was a really long time ago. She and I didn't exactly stay together for long. Valentino made her all mad and she told me she couldn't deal with all of it anymore. She couldn't deal with me anymore, I guess. She told everyone I was… beautiful but dumb and weird for her tastes."
"That's her loss," Santana huffed. She hated the idea of that absolute douche with her stupid shark tattoo having anything to do with her girlfriend. "There's nothing wrong with you."
Santana grimaced not long after that when Lani returned. Her frown deepened, her eyebrow twitching when Lani offered a glass of wine to Brittany. Santana folded her arms, glaring in the direction of Lani and Brittany as the Hawaiian woman began telling the blonde about some championship she had just won.
"I'm going into the water!" She announced and grunted in annoyance, making a show of kicking some sand and throwing her beach bag forcefully. Neither of the women seemed to hear her and that irritated her even more.
"So, Brittany, how about a surf lesson for the little guy?" Lani suggested, watching the boy who kept staring at the surfers and jumping back with an excited squeal whenever a huge wave hit the shore.
Valentino's face lit up at that idea but Santana tensed up, scowling at the other dark-haired woman. There was no way in hell Santana was going to let this asshole take such an important moment she could have with her son away from her.
"I'm already taking him for lessons soon."
"No thanks. It's really okay, Lani. Santana can handle that." Brittany told her, wincing at the angry aura that was coming off of her girlfriend and the smugness that Lani radiated.
"Oh there's no need for that. I can teach him, totally free of cost," The green-eyed woman turned to the boy who was staring at her curiously, looking from one dark-haired woman to the other in confusion. "Don't you want lessons from a pro-surfer, Valentino?"
"I just said we don't need you," Santana spat, stepping in front of Valentino protectively and wrapping her arm around his shoulders as the boy stared up at Lani in confusion. "He's my son and I'm going to take him surfing!"
"Your son?" Lani glanced over at Brittany, wide-eyed. "You didn't tell me Santana Lopez was his other parent."
"It was none of your business but now you know." Santana gave her a smug grin, her eyes still dark and hardened as she stared Lani down.
Finally the Hawaiian woman just huffed, shrugging her shoulders as she backed down, saying something about how she was going to meet some friends at the bar.
Brittany walked up to her girlfriend, slipping an arm around her shoulders.
"Santana, if we just ignore her she'll go away. She's always like this until she gets bored."
"Sorry, it's just that she gets on my fucking nerves." Santana growled, outraged by the whole situation.
"I know," Brittany pulled her into a quick kiss. "Don't let her ruin everything for you. Let's focus on having a good time."
Although she was still in a bad mood, Santana eventually calmed down and together with Brittany, helped build a moat around Valentino's sandcastle, even though she wasn't the type who enjoyed playing with wet sand at all and kept complaining about it.
Tina and Mike arrived to join them on the beach not long after that. Brittany noticed that the two of them, especially Tina, were giving them weird looks because of how quiet they were being and Santana's moodiness as she spent most of her time ignoring everyone else even more than she usually did.
The blonde dreaded having to explain the whole situation with Lani to her friends, although knowing Tina it probably wouldn't take long for the short woman to figure it out.
"Don't forget, we have to go to the luau later," Tina reminded them after a while, adjusting her sunhat that Santana thought looked ridiculous and wrapping a towel around her waist. "I can't wait!"
"Come on, Kitten. Let's go back to the room." Brittany called out to Valentino who was still focusing on his castles.
"What's a loo-ow?" Valentino asked in a cute, innocent voice when he heard them talking as the adults smiled, grabbing the towels and beach bags.
"Just wait and see, Kid. You're gonna love it." Santana told him with a smile, her face softening when he grabbed Brittany's hand and then reached for her hand as well as the group made their way back to the resort.
