Here's chapter 9 everybody.
Chapter 9: Countdown to Extinction.
Back at St. Hewlett, the couple that were sleeping gets woken up by their dog, who was chewing a shoe.
"Hey, hey, hey. Come on." the man said.
"He's just trying to impress you." the man's wife said.
"If you want to impress me, you need to get a job and stop slobbering all over my shoe." the man said to the dog.
Afterwards, the man heads for the bathroom to urinate. As he was relieving himself, he looked out the small window and noticed that his neighbors were packing up like crazy.
"I don't believe this, Laila. Neighbors are moving out. Guess they finally got tired of all these quakes. It's just a little shake and they're running." the man said as he finished urinating.
Moments later, the man then turns on the TV in the kitchen to hear an OBC breaking news report. The man just doesn't believe the report.
"Police and the fire departments are asking everyone to stay off the phone. The police are asking us not to call 911." an OBC news anchor reported.
"Baby, there's something on the news about the quake." the man said.
Suddenly, the man's son appears through a dog door.
"What's up, man?" the man asked.
"Hi, daddy." the little boy said.
"What you been doing out there?" the man asked.
"Shooting the aliens." the boy replied.
"Oh, you shooting aliens, right? You think you're tough, huh? What you got. Turn around. Let me see what you got. " the man said, making his son laugh as Laila walked in the kitchen.
"Come on, Otis. Let's get you something to eat." Laila said to the dog as her husband came to kiss her. "Mmm. Uh, nnnn… Oh, now, watch out. Watch it now, baby."
"I'll go grab the paper." the man said.
"Alright, Michael." Amber said.
The man named Michael heads outside. He reads it before noticing all his neighbors looking in a certain direction. A helicopter passing by managed to get him to look in that direction. He then couldn't believe it. There was a massive alien spaceship hovering over the city. Laila came to him to ask him something before she notices the spaceship and stares at it in disbelief as her son pretends to shoot at it.
Meanwhile, back at Bana City, Henry went back to his office where a television was showing a OBC news report regarding the alien spaceships.
"Military officials are reporting more ships have just arrived over the capitals of Emmeria, Erusea, Sapin, Ustio, San Salvacion, North Point, Estovakia, and Belka, bringing estimates up to anywhere from 10 to 15 of these city-sized spacecraft." OBC anchor Mark Richard reported as camera footages shows the alien ships hovering over Emmeria's capital city of Gracemeria, Ustio's capital city of Directus, Yuktobania's capital city Cinigrad, Erusea's capital city Farbanti, and Belka's capital city Dinsmark.
Henry then hears Marvin talking to his mother on the phone, trying to calm her down.
"I know, Ma. Just try and stay calm." Marvin said.
"Tell her to pack up and leave town." Henry said.
"Why? What happened?" Marvin asked.
"Just do it!" Henry yelled.
"Oh, Ma. Ma, listen. Get your stuff together and head for Aunt Linda's. Don't argue with me. Just go!" Marvin said before hanging up. "Henry, why did I just send my mother to Apito? Henry. Henry, talk to me."
"Did you hear me tell you that the signal hidden in the satellite feed is slowly recycling down to extinction?" Henry asked.
"Not really." Marvin replied.
"It's a countdown." Henry said.
"A countdown? Wait. A countdown to what, Henry?!" Marvin asked.
"Uh, it's like in chess: First you strategically position your pieces, then, when the timing's right, you strike." Henry said before pointing at the TV showing that the alien crafts have positioned themselves in cities around the world like Gracemeria, Cinigrad, Oured, Dinsmark, Directus, San Salvacion, Farbanti and North Point. "See? They're positioning themselves all over the world using this one signal to synchronize their efforts. In approximately six hours, the signal's going to disappear, and the countdown's going to be over."
"And then what?" Marvin asked.
"Checkmate." Henry replied.
Marvin went wide-eyed at Henry's answer.
"Oh my God. Oh my God! I've got to call my brother. I'd better call my housekeeper. I gotta call my lawyer. Eh, forget my lawyer." Marvin said.
Suddenly, the OBC broadcast turned its attention to President Wilford's address to the nation.
"Ladies and gentlemen, the president of the Osean Federation." the announcer said as President Wilford was on the podium.
"Good afternoon. My fellow Oseans. A historic and unprecedented event has occurred. The question of whether or not we're alone in the universe has been answered. Although it's understandable that many of us feel a sense of hesitation, or even fear, we must attempt to reserve judgment." Wilford said as he started his speech.
While watching the speech at Bright Hill, Jennifer was offered a phone from one of her co-workers.
"He says he's your ex boyfriend." the co-worker said.
"Oh, God." Jennifer moaned in annoyance before answering the phone. ""What do you want?"
"You got to leave Bright Hill." Henry said.
"This is hardly the time nor the place to be having that same old discussion!" Jennifer whispered.
"You don't understand. You got to leave Oured." Henry warned.
"Well, in case you haven't noticed, we are having a little crisis here." Jennifer whispered loudly.
"Jenny, they're communicating with a hidden signal. They're going to attack." Henry warned.
"You are just being paranoid!" Jennifer whispered loudly.
"It's not paranoia. The embedding's very subtle. It's probably been overlooked. If-." Henry said before Jennifer hung up the phone.
Henry eventually sets the phone down before turning his attention back to Marvin.
"Marvin, what are you doing? Get out of town as soon as you can. Please?" Henry pleaded.
"Okay, okay." Marvin said.
Henry eventually leaves his workplace as President Wilford's address is still being seen on the TV.
"My staff and I will remain at Bright Hill as we attempt to establish communication. If you feel compelled to leave these cities, please do so in an orderly fashion." Wilford said on the TV.
Henry then rides his bike through the streets of the city, which was in chaos as citizens were frantically trying to pack their belongings and leave their homes as soon as possible.
And that's the end of the chapter. At least Henry knows the aliens are hostile and knows their intentions. What will happen when the top Ace pilot discuss about the arrival of the aliens and why they are on Earth? Find out next time in the next chapter. Please review. :)
