Chapter 35
"No, no, no...this can't be happening, it-" Norman muttered to himself, his voice shaking.
But despite his denials there was no changing what had happened. He paced his office, trying to steady himself, to convince himself that this couldn't be real. Unfortunately it was and he could only numbly notice that the doctor on the other end of the phone was still trying to talk to him.
"Mayor Osborn, Mayor Osborn, sir?"
"I…" He began, but was unable to finish, his voice shaking.
The doctor sighed. "I'm sorry, Mayor Osborn...Take your time, when you're ready, come down and we can make arrangements."
Norman replied with something non-committal, hung up the phone and sank into his chair. It was over, all his efforts, for nothing. Harry had died from his illness.
'Not only that but the Symbiote escaped somehow and…' He thought to himself.
"It's their fault." A voice snapped.
Norman flinched at that voice, it was dark, hissing, almost insane, yet sounded so similar to his own. He knew it and turned to look at the nearby mirror. His reflection gave him a dark grin.
"Yes, them...they pushed things too far, it's their fault Harry is dead." His reflection snarled. "You know it, now embrace it...embrace the gift and get the revenge you so desire."
Norman glared, his resistance gone as he stood up, his expression twisting as Norman Osborn disappeared and in his place stood the Green Goblin.

Max smiled lightly to herself, glad how her double date with Lucas, Suzie and Dustin had gone. It was a very pleasant night and she'd had a good time. She reached her front door but paused, uncertain. Something suddenly shifted and she got an unpleasant lurch in her stomach but she shook her head.
'What was that, c'mon, it's been a great day, why would I feel like this?' She thought.
With a sigh she opened the front door and stepped inside. She froze at the sight that awaited her inside.
"Max...Max...run…" Her mother choked out.
Her mother was bloody, crawling towards her down the hall, she'd clearly been attacked.
"Mom!" Max gasped and instead of running, rushed to her mother's side. "Hold on, I-"
"No, run…"
But before she could say anything else Max let out a yelp as she was hit by something and found herself stuck to the wall by what appeared to be a web. But the creature approaching her sure wasn't Spider-Man. It was a tall, entirely black creature with incredible musculature, terrifying large blank white eyes, a wide mouth of razor sharp teeth and a long reptilian like tongue.
"Well, well, the last one has arrived." It growled in a deep guttural voice. "Now our revenge will be complete!"
Max struggled, trying to get free. "Who, what are you, what are you doing-?"
The creature laughed darkly and Max realized it was holding something.
Seeing her look, the creature gave a very unsettling grin before lifting it up and Max flinched.
"NO!"
"Oh don't act like that." The creature growled. "You hated him too."
It was a head, Neil's head, only the head, no body. Then suddenly, the creature's head seemed to pull back, showing a human head underneath, a very familiar one.
"Billy!?"
Her brother laughed and shook his head. "Not anymore, we've found the perfect power, we can now take vengeance on all those who wronged us. We are no longer Billy, we are Venom!"
With that he tossed the head aside as the black substance covered his head again before shaping itself into the form it was in before.
"What do you mean, that's not, mom didn't, I di-MRUGH!"
Her eyes widened as she was cut off by another web, this one covering her mouth.
"You both let him beat the shit out of us, you both did nothing and you...little girl, you would constantly disrespect us, treat us with contempt!" Venom thundered. "Not just you...everyone who wronged us will pay!"
"Then start with me!"
Max flinched and turned her head, Venom also turned just in time to eat a drop-kick to the face, it was Spider-Man. Venom let out a rather dark laugh as he pulled himself back to his feet.
"Ah, Spider-Man, I was hoping to save you till last actually, but...you're not going to let me go, huh." He drawled.
Spider-Man readied himself. "You won't get away with this, monster."
Venom just laughed and even as Spider-Man tried to ready himself, Venom shockingly dove right at him, sending them both flying out the window, leaving Max to struggle, trying to scream through her sealed mouth.
Landing hard on the ground, Spider-Man groaned while Venom easily landed on his feet and leapt off him before perching on a nearby wall.
'What the hell, my Spider-Sense didn't go off?' He thought in shock.
He quickly tried to get to his feet and turned to face Venom who was shaking his head.
"Well, too bad." He snarled. "You have a choice, save them or follow us, we are not fighting yet. We want to make it a worthwhile challenge, we will meet again!"
With that Venom laughed darkly as he swung off.
'He has my web swing too, but how...what…?' Spider-Man wondered in shock.
But he quickly shook himself, that creature that called itself Venom was right, he had something more important to do. He quickly zipped himself back through the window and into the room. He hurried and freed Max, who gasped and coughed as her mouth was freed.
"I can't...I don't believe it, how could he…?" She choked out.
She fell by her mother's side, she was still moving, still awake, but was clearly weak.
"Help is on the way." Spider-Man told them. "I'm...I'm sorry."
But Max looked up at him and let out a shaky breath. "It's worse than you think-"
With that she began to explain the full horror of what had happened and who that creature Venom truly was. Suddenly something clicked in Spider-Man's head and he realized in horror how Venom had those abilities, the web swinging, the immunity to Spider-Sense, he now knew what had become of that black substance in Oscorp, the damage he had taken when he hit the tank, it had absorbed some of his DNA from the wound he left behind. Worse, it was now in control of Billy and seemed to have amplified all his darkest desires, this had just gone from bad to worse it seemed and he had a nasty feeling in his gut that this was just the start of the nightmare.
End of chapter, hope you enjoyed it, read and review please.
