Unbeknownst to anyone, during the commotion with Kuma, both Absalom and Hogback managed to pull Moria out of the rubble. They then boarded a small ship, and using Absalom's invisible powers, they were able to sneak out to sea without him noticing.
"All right, shut the gates," said Hogback once they were through the gates.
"This doesn't feel right, leaving Perona behind," said Absalom as the gate closed behind them.
"We search the whole island; what else are we supposed to do?"
"It's just strange. Where the hell did she disappear to?"
"Okay, I think we're in clear; drop the invisibility cloak," said Hogback.
Their ship soon became visible once more.
"A perfect escape!" Hogback laughed.
"We really cut it close," said Absalom. "I was sweating some invisible sweat there. I still just like to know why Kuma the Tyrant appeared out of the blue on Breakneck Bog."
"I can feel you in on that one. Well, apparently, Kuma was sent to inform Moria of who had been chosen to succeed Viggo."
"So there's a new Warlord?"
"Yes, and he's quite the controversial figure; his name is Drago D Bludvist. From what I hear, he's a nasty piece of work."
He then tossed in the morning newspaper, and on the front page was Ace.
"'Second Division Commander of the Hairy Hooligan Pirates, Fire Fist Ace, now awaiting execution at the prison Impel Down,'" Absalom read out loud.
"Ace is easily the most famous henchman that Stoick the Vast has got working under him. A fine gift for Drago to present to the Government."
"True."
"There's a feeling out there that this could spell very bad news for our Great Pirate Era. The tides are turning towards a maelstrom. There can be a worse time for Moria to be flat on his back."
"I can see we're going with this Doctor, but I only care about one thing. I want a nice wife."
"Sure, finally, a corpse that seems like your type."
"I don't want a zombie! I want a living woman filled with blood and passion!"
Twenty-four hours later, after Moria's defeat, everyone was now finally relaxing after the massive battle that ensued yesterday.
The Dragon Riders were now currently on the Night Fury, organising a meal for everyone on the island.
"I can't believe everyone passed out in the courtyard and slept through the whole day," said Snotlout.
"Are you surprised?" said Eret. "We did fight for solid 24 hours."
"To be honest, we're lucky that we survived at all," said Hiccup.
"I need some help bringing my cooking supplies to the courtyard," said Ragnar. "Our grateful group of survivors don't wanna budge an inch from that place, so we'll just make the meal there."
"Hope you don't mind," said Lola. "We haven't felt the sun on our skinning years, so we're trying to soak it up. My men are so relieved that they're weeping with joy. You said you got enough food?"
"We got back all the food that was stolen from us; on top of that, somebody stopped our food with Moria's food," Ragnar assured her.
"I wonder who would do such a thing?" Lola frowned. "Well, whoever they are, they've got a kind heart." Her eyes then turned towards the massive treasure left on the deck. "As if the food wasn't enough left you all this too. You guys don't even have to hunt the treasure; it just delivers itself."
"Not exactly; that ghost girl tried to steal the ship," Astrid explained. "She was the one that loaded our ship with food and gold."
"Why would she do that?" Snotlout frowned.
"Maybe she got sick of following Moria," Astrid shrugged.
"She might have succeeded if Kuma hadn't shown up and whisked her away to knows where," said Fishlegs.
Astrid looked at Lola. "You sure you don't want any of this treasure?"
"We wouldn't dream of it; you guys are saviours, after all," said Lola and then looked at Astrid curiously. "You know I've got this feeling that you and I have met somewhere before."
Astrid's eyes widened. "Don't tell me that you're… Lola!"
"I am, but I don't recall telling you my name?" Lola frowned.
Astrid then suddenly wrapped her arms around her, much to everyone's surprise.
"It really is you, Lola!" she cried. "I'm so glad that we could meet again!"
"Lola, what are you talking about?" Snotlout frowned.
Fishlegs gasped. "Wait, you're Lola."
Snotlout groaned. "I did with already established that her name is Lola!"
"Snotlout, she's that hippopotamus zombie we ran into," Fishlegs explained.
"Wait, she is?"
Astrid laughed. "I know this doesn't make any sense, and I will explain later, but for now…" Astrid then grabbed of treasure and gave it to her. "Take this; I want you to have it."
"What?! Wait, for me?" Lola stared dumbfounded. "Are you sure?"
"I'm making my way back to the courtyard!" Eret called as he lifted the bag of food. "Is there anything else you want me to bring?"
"No, that should be just about everything!" Hiccup nodded.
In the courtyard, the Rolling Pirates were now sunbathing on the rubble.
"Now, this is bliss. Come on, sun, go on and give me everything you've got."
"I've never felt so alive."
"I'm just happy that we are."
"Hey!" a voice yelled.
They looked up and saw Hiccup and the others returning with the food.
"I sure hope you guys are hungry!" Hiccup yelled.
"It's Dragon!" said the masked brother. "Uh, why did you ask us to carry that? You guys have already done enough for us."
"Is Toothless up yet?" Hiccup asked.
"No, he's fast asleep! He's in the mansion!"
The masked brother then noticed that his brother was still fast asleep and then kicked them awake. "Get your ass up."
In the mansion, Chopper was tending to Toothless' injuries.
"Chopper!" Hiccup yelled as he and Eret carried supplies.
"We got everything you asked for bundled up here," said Eret.
"Oh, that's great, thanks," said Chopper.
"How's Toothless doing?" Hiccup asked.
"I've never seen him in such terrible condition before," he said, looking back at Toothless. "He was teetering on the edge of death. It's bizarre; something happened while we were passed out. He was injured before, but not like this."
"It is strange," Heather agreed. "And it's even stranger that Kuma the Tyrant would just up and leave."
Astrid nodded. "Yeah, he was given orders to kill everyone on the island. Didn't bother to check if we were still alive?"
"On top of that, how come Hiccup is energetic," Snotlout added.
"I don't get it either," Hiccup admitted. "When I came to, all of my exhaustion just disappeared."
"You wanna know what happened," said the skinny brother as he and his brother made their way towards them. "Then look no further!"
"We saw the whole thing from start to finish," said the masked brother.
"Every damn detail!"
"And we can lay it out for you like you were there!"
Ragnar then quickly grabbed the two of them and pulled them outside. "Come here."
Hiccup looked back, confused. "Ragnar?"
Heather, too, was rather curious about what was going on with Ragnar.
Ragnar dragged them outside out of prying eyes, much to the confusion.
"What gives?" said the skinny brother. "The guy saved your life, too, you know!"
"Yeah, you were trying to take his place, but he knocked you out," the masked brother nodded.
"Just shut up and tell me what the two of you saw after I blacked out," said Ragnar.
After Kuma's head unleashed his boom, the Risky Brothers managed to regain consciousness. No one saw them as hiding among some rubble, but they saw everything going on outside.
"That Warlord's power was even crazier than what you saw," said the skinny brother.
"He laid his paws on Dragon and made this bubble come out of him," the masked brother explained. "He said that he extracted all the damage done to his body."
"Wait, he did what?" Ragnar stared.
"So he took that big ball of suffering and then…"
They went on to explain that Kuma would only leave Hiccup alone if Toothless accepted all of his anguish. They then explained that he gave him a small taste of what to expect.
"…just the tiniest bit of that stuff had the swordsman screaming like he was being murdered, but that didn't stop them from taking every single ounce of that big ball of pain."
"It moved me to tears, man," said the skinny brother.
"Yeah, same here."
"I see," said Ragnar. "That explains how come Hiccup is just fine and why Toothless is damn near comatose."
"Well, come on now that you know what's going spread the tail just how brave your friend is," said the masked brother.
"Damn straight, everybody's got to hear this," said the skinny brother.
"Hold it!" said Ragnar, and they stopped in their path. "You're keeping your mouth shut. Toothless didn't do this for Hiccup's gratitude, and besides, how do you think it will make Hiccup feel if he finds out Toothless is suffering from his pain."
The two brothers looked at one another, stunned.
"Hiccup believes the captain is the one to protect the crew; he would be devastated if he ever finds out Toothless went through hell to protect him."
"All right, you convinced me," said the skinny brother.
"Yeah, you're absolutely right," the masked brother nodded.
"Everyone is still alive, right? So that's all that matters," said Ragnar as he made his way back to the mansion. "Now, let's go and eat."
The others just looked at one.
"Holy crap, the Dragon Rider guys are so cool," said the skinny brother.
"With a crew like that, their captain is one lucky dude," the masked brother agreed.
Unbeknownst to any of them, Heather had been listening in. She had sprouted an ear on one of the brothers' backs and had heard everything.
"And now I know," she smiled.
The two brothers made their way back into the mansion, and Hiccup looked at them curiously.
"Where did you two go?" he asked. "Did you guys say that you had something you wanted to tell us? So what happened?"
"Why does it mean so much to you?" the skinny brother asked.
"Everyone is still alive; that's all that matters," said the masked brother.
Then they turned around and walked back outside, whispering to one another.
"Man, I want to tell him so bad."
"Right, how are we supposed to sit on such an amazing story?"
"Okay, that was weird," said Hiccup staring at them confused.
Heather gave a small chuckle.
Regardless Ragnar was able to prepare everyone a massive meal.
"Let's dig in!" they yelled enthusiastically.
They then all began to eat, and the Rolling Pirates were amazed by how tasty the food was.
"Man, this is the most delicious thing I've ever tasted," said the skinny brother.
"It's been an entire year since we've had a proper meal!" said the masked brother.
"I am so damn happy to be alive!" Lola cried.
"There's plenty for everyone, so don't hold back!" said Ragnar.
Everyone immediately cheered.
"To indulge in such delicacies again, my tastebuds are leaping and in unrestrained joy!" said Skull excitedly. "Except I do not have tastebuds."
"Will you just eat already," Eret grumbled.
The Rolling Pirates laughed.
"That's a funny bone!"
"But in all honesty getting myself to gorge myself in such mouthwatering meals in two days in a row, I am starting to worry that I'm gaining some weight," said Skull.
"You're nothing but bones, so shut it, damn trap!" Eret snapped.
The Rolling Pirates just kept laughing.
"Skeleton is the best!"
"How is a skeleton able to talk anyway?"
"I don't know, but I like him."
"He's the funniest skeleton I've ever seen."
"How can you move about muscles?"
"Who cares? He's great!"
The twins started dancing around silly, and the Rolling Pirates cheered them on.
"They haven't even opened up the booze yet, and everyone is already lost their minds," said Chopper.
"In fairness, this is the first time they've been able to celebrate since their shadows have been stolen," said Astrid. "Plus, Ragnar's cooking is mouthwatering."
Hiccup then approached. "Still no change?"
Chopper shook his head. "He could be like this for days, but his life is no longer in danger."
"That's something, at least."
They then heard the sound of a piano, and when he turned around, they saw that Skull was playing one.
"Where did that piano come from?" Hiccup blinked.
Everyone cheered, and the twins kept dancing as Skull played the piano.
Ragnar then approached him. "Hey, what's this? I thought you said that you were a violinist or something."
"I am, but I can pretty much play just about any instrument," said Skull.
"That's so? You're pretty talented."
"Do you mind talking about what happened out there?" Skull asked. "You have another witness; I saw the whole thing. I was quite touched by the two of you by your bravery and your compassion. Friendship is a beautiful thing."
"Hiccup would have done the same thing for any of us," said Ragnar.
"Yes, I can see that very clearly," Skull agreed.
Skull then began playing the new Toon on the piano, and everyone stopped what they were doing the moment they heard it, and he soon began to sing.
Yo hohoho, yo hohoho Yo hohoho, yo hohoho!
Yo hohoho, yo hohoho Yo hohoho, yo hohoho!
Gather up all of the crew, it's time to ship out Binks' brew.
Sea wind blows, to where, who knows? The waves will be our guide.
O'er across the ocean's tide. Rays of sunshine far and wide.
Birds they sing, of cheerful things, in circles passing by.
Bid farewell to Weaver's town, say so long to port renowned.
Sing a song, it won't be long, before we're casting off.
Cross the gold and silver seas, a salty spray puts us at ease,
Day and night, to our delight, the voyage never ends.
Heather smiled. "I thought that was Binks' Brew. It has been ages since I last heard this song. Such a nostalgic feeling."
Everyone appeared to love the song as they were dancing to the tune.
"Nice pick, Skull," said Hiccup. "I always did love this song. My dad's crew always sung it."
"Of course, it's a classic," said Skull. "All the pirates used to sing it back in the good old days. It was sung in times of sorrow and joy."
"You know, we can do with a musician on our crew," Hiccup offered. "You do have your shadow back; you can sail anywhere with us now, day or night."
"It's not that easy for me, although I would like to. There is something important that I haven't told you yet."
"And that would be?"
"I have to keep my word. I made a promise to a friend, and it is still my life's goal to fulfil that promise. And if I don't, I would have the right to call myself a man."
"You're talking about Laboon, right?" said Hiccup. "I know about that; Eret told us the entire story."
Skull looked up, surprised. "Is that so? Laboon… I don't know how much she told you exactly, but he's a whale. You see, there's a Cape…"
"We've been to that Twin Capes already, and we've met Laboon," said Hiccup. "It's the truth, I swear it."
Skull was so shocked that he missed a few keys on the piano.
"And I can tell you this for a fact, too," Hiccup continued. "Laboon has been waiting right there for 50 years waiting for his friends to return."
Skull was so shocked that he wasn't playing the piano properly.
"Hey, something wrong, skeleton? Why is the tempo slowing down?"
Skull wasn't listening as he looked at Hiccup, and he could see by looking into his eyes that he was serious.
"So you can imagine how surprised I was; it was pretty crazy you turned out to be one of the friends he had been waiting for," said Hiccup. "It kinda feels like fate, huh? And that promise you made, he still remembers it just as clearly as you do. Laboon is going to be so happy when he finds out that you're okay."
"Please just give me a moment here," said Skull as he continued to play the piano. "I can't believe this. So, what you're saying is you guys met Laboon? You truly did?"
"That's right."
"And after 50 years, all this time, Laboon is still waiting at the Cape for me to come back? Just as we left him? You're not joking?"
"Nope," Hiccup smiled.
"We can back up on that," said Ragnar. "Your big buddy is there, all right."
"Yep," Fishlegs nodded.
"And he's doing well?" Skull asked.
"Yeah, he's doing great," Fishlegs nodded.
"He's as big a damn mountain," said Ragnar.
"That's incredible; the last time I saw him, he was the size of a small boat," said Skull. "He was so adorable. He could be difficult at times, but he loved music. He was such a good boy. Even now, I remember exactly what he looks like. I can picture him when we said goodbye."
He then slammed his hands on the piano keys, making everyone jump. Skull then looked at his hands and then began to cry.
"This is wonderful; even after all this time, he's still doing okay. I've never been this happy in my entire life."
He then began thinking back to 50 years ago, when he was flesh and blood and when he was sailing with his old pirate crew. They had just encountered a very young Laboon and looked at him rather perplexed.
"What's up with this little whale? He won't stop following our ship."
"Probably got separated from his family. Poor guy lost in this big ocean."
"You look so sad little guy; you're just a baby, aren't you?"
"Hey, Captain Yorky!" Skull yelled. "How about we cheer up the little guy with a song?"
"That's a brilliant idea, Skull," said Yorky. "All right, everybody, grab your instruments!"
"The Rumbar Pirates can bring a smile to any creature!" said Skull. "Let's show them how we do it, boys!"
"Damn right, Skull!" the pirates yelled.
"One, two, three, four…" said Skull tapping his foot on the deck as he counted.
Then all the pirates began playing their instruments in perfect harmony and with immense joy. Laboon listened to the music and began to smile, clearly enjoying the symphony.
