Otis

'Yeah, well that's-' My speech stops as I lay eyes on someone walking into the hospital, just behind Ola. Dad. Ola turns around and looks as well and is clearly in shock as he approaches us. I can only imagine Eric displaying something close to the same sentiments as the two of us at his arrival. Immediately my brain puts two and two together as I slowly, and painfully, realise what has happened. I notice Ola's face with a furrowed brow and angry looking eyes, meaning that the revelation I think I am about to be subjected to has not just come exclusively to my mind. I get up and walk to him, and take him outside.

'Dad don't' I say. 'Just don't.'

'Don't what?' he says.

'You wouldn't be here unless you were the father and I know that's why you're here.' I reply. 'That's what.'

'Woah woah woah' he says. 'What? Father? What are you talking about?'

'You know damn well what I'm talking about' I say. 'You're here because Mum almost died giving birth to what I can only assume is your child. Why else would you be here?'

'Well… I' he begins. 'Firstly, I didn't even know Jean was pregnant. Secondly, I haven't had sex with her in any remotely recent time. And thirdly, I'm here because someone told me the mother of my child had almost died and I wanted to be here for my son.'

'I…' I pause and piece everything together. 'So, you're not the father? You're here for me?'

'Yes!' he exclaims. 'Is that so hard to believe.'

'I mean you haven't always been truthful in the past' I say. 'But no, no it's not. I believe you.'

'Thank you' he says, relieved. 'Now let's try that again. Hi son, how are you holding up, how's Jean?'

'Mum's recovering, but she's not awake yet' I admit. It's at this point I realise Ola and Eric don't know what's going on. 'Let's go inside.'

I take him inside where Ola still looks furious.

'Dad, this is Ola, Jakob's daughter' I say.

'It's a pleasure to finally meet you' he says. 'Jean and Otis told me a lot about you.'

'Likewise' she says scowling

'Ola, Dad already said he's not the father' I tell her. 'And I believe him.'

'Hi Eric' Dad says awkwardly.

'Hi Remi' he replies.

Ola's scowl let's up and she shakes his hand. I can tell she doesn't fully believe him. I mean, she knows about his less than honest past so I can forgive her for that. I just hope he's telling the truth for once. That being said it is good to have him around. As for who the real father is, only Mum knows who it is. We just have to wait for her to tell us, and more importantly, tell him.
