Chapter 7
Moments after Hellboy and Maizie left the agents, they arrived the corridor of the BPRD. The wisp of smoke faded away to the eyes of the other agents who watched the entrance gob smacked. They both landed on their knees, Hellboy dizzy from the teleportation and Maizie winded from the strength.
"Holy shit," Maizie whispered.
Hellboy groaned in response and she looked at him to see him with skin a pale shade of red.
"Shit, sorry I didn't give you any warning. Clay pissed me off," Maizie said as she took his arm off of her shoulder and kneeled in front of him. She turned to an agent and barked an order.
"Get some help. Now."
The agent scurried off without a word and Maizie turned her attention back to Hellboy.
"How the hell did you do that?" Hellboy asked once his dizziness abated.
She gave a response, "Teleportation. You know? The ability to travel to one place and another in seconds."
Before Hellboy could give a response back, Abe and the agent she ordered came back.
"Good Lord, Red, are you alright? Come on, let's get you to the infirmary," Abe said as he kneeled beside Hellboy and gestured to couple of able-bodied men who came and helped Hellboy up. Abe turned to Maizie.
"How did you get here? And where's Agent Clay?"
She grinned, "I left him and his two cronies back where we picked him up. He insinuated that as a female I couldn't do anything so I showed him."
"Showed him what?" Abe asked curiously as he helped her up.
She swayed a bit and Abe caught her.
"Oh! Dizzy. Happens when I teleport more than one person," Maizie said as she held onto Abe.
His large eyes widened, "You teleported?"
She nodded, "Yup. Boy, Broom really knows how to keep his secrets."
"I would have to agree with that," Abe said as he led her to the infirmary.
She looked at him quizzed.
Abe looked back at her and muttered, "Later."
Once they arrived at the Infirmary, they were greeted by Broom standing next to Hellboy who lay flat on a stainless steel table. Abe led her to a chair, she sat down and put her head between her legs. Abe went to stand next to Hellboy and gather his supplies.
"My dear?" Broom asked as he headed towards her and set a hand on her shoulder.
"I'm fine," she whispered. "Been a while since I transported more than just me."
He nodded and patted her shoulder. A moment passed before she was able to sit back up and she gave a grin to the old man.
"Much better."
She turned her head towards Abe's voice.
"You were burned by some organic acid."
Hellboy huffed, "I'm lucky that way."
He grunted as Abe probed his wounded arm.
"Son. About Rasputin-" Broom started.
"Don't worry. I'll get him soon enough," Hellboy interrupted.
Broom looked at his son, "Listen to me. This time is different. There's more at stake than ever before."
Hellboy looked back at him, "How hard can it be? I punched the crap out of that thing that he sent—Ouch!"
Broom shook his head, "I worry about you."
"Me? Come on-"
"Well I won't be around forever you know?" Broom said, ignoring the look Abe sent his away.
Maizie caught the look and suddenly she knew something was up.
"Oh stop that," Hellboy said before he hissed in pain. "Damn it! Be careful!"
Abe looked at him, "Red. How long was it latched onto you?"
"Dunno, maybe 5 seconds—Ow!"
Maizie snickered, her worries over Broom forgotten. Hellboy shot a look at Maizie.
"What are you snickering about?"
She grinned, "Can't believe that such a big man like you can be such a baby."
Hellboy gave a growl to which Maizie answered with a finger.
"Professor…" Abe interrupted their antics, catching their attention.
They looked at him as Broom moved around the table to Abe's side. Hellboy turned to look and Broom sharply commanded him to look the other way,
"Is it bad?" Hellboy asked.
Abe picked out the objects in his arm and set them in a metal bowl, "Touched you five seconds. Laid three eggs."
Hellboy scoffed, "Didn't even buy me a drink."
