Ricken: Excuse me, Link, sir. I was wondering, uh... Do you think I could ask you some questions? Oh, but it doesn't have to be today! I know you're probably busy since you're a hero and all, y'know? So-

Link: Sure... Ask me whatever you want.

Ricken: Really?! Thank you, sir! The moment I heard of your title, I was dying to meet you. I'm sure that with your wisdom, I'll be much closer to becoming the kind of man that I need to be...

Link: ...I'm not sure how much wisdom I'll have to share with you... I'm told courage is more my thing, but I'll help you with what I can.

Ricken: Awesome! Thanks a ton!

Link: So... what'd you wanna ask me about?

Ricken: Oh! The questions, right... Hmm, how should I say this?... I want to be more like you. Like a hero, I mean. So how do I do that?

Link: ...More like me?

Ricken: Yeah! Everyone says you're the 'Hero of Time'! And I've heard some of the stories about your legendary deeds. That kind of prestige... That's exactly the type of name I'm trying to make for myself!

Link: ...You're just after the popularity, then?

Ricken: W-Well... I do want to save people and to be useful to Chrom. I'm not some wannabe who's only after fame and money... but I also really want to restore the honor of my family name. So I guess I am after fame for that reason...

Link: I see...

Ricken: So, yeah. That's why I need your advice. Can you give me some tips on how to be well-known like you are?

Link: ...I don't think you need any help.

Ricken: W-What do you mean? I need all the help I can get! I'm one of the Shepherd's strongest mages, I volunteer to fight whenever I can, and I might have even saved Maribelle's life when she got kidnapped by those Plegians! Still, though... Everyone keeps treating me like I'm a child.

Link: ...Aren't you, though?

Ricken: I'm fifteen years old, I'll have you know!

Link: ...That would make you younger than anyone else here.

Ricken: I... I know that! It's just...

Link: I doubt anyone's trying to make you feel bad. They treat you like a kid because you... pretty much are one.

Ricken: I guess that makes sense, but I still don't like it... Anyway, what'd you mean when you said I don't need any help? Are you really being honest?

Link: ...Yeah, of course.

Ricken: Well, can you explain it for me, 'cause I don't get it!... Uh, sorry, I didn't mean to yell at you like a child...

Link: Despite my reputation, I don't think I'm all that special... I was chosen by one of the goddesses of Hyrule, so... I guess that makes me special... but other than that, we aren't very different.

Ricken: How can you think that? Everyone here has so much respect for you! Not like me...

Link: Just because you're young doesn't mean people don't respect you... In fact, I respect you more than I normally would because of how young you are... Risking your life for the sake of your family? I know firsthand how tough that is for someone of your age.

Ricken: I never thought about my age like that before...

Link: The way I see it, I became a 'hero' because I had two things... A cause to fight for... and the courage to fight for that cause... You already have both of those things, so... just keep on fighting. You're already on the path to becoming a hero.

Ricken: ...Wow, that actually makes a lot of sense... Maybe you're right! Maybe I don't need to do anything different!

Ricken: Darn it! These dusty, old tomes are filled with so much information! How come I can't find anything about it?

Link: ...About what?

Ricken: Oh! Link, perfect timing! Since you're from a different world, you might know something.

Link: ...Looking for a spell of some kind?

Ricken: ...Kinda? I'm really just trying to find some way to speed up my aging process. Whether that's through a spell or hex or potion... doesn't matter to me.

Link: ...

Ricken: So what about you? Do you know any way I can age myself up to... my mid-twenties, maybe?

Link: ...You should stop looking into this... Please.

Ricken: Huh? Why?

Link: I'm serious. You're making a mistake.

Ricken: ...Hey, are you mad at me?... Y-You're kinda scaring me a little... You're usually so calm.

Link: ...Sorry, I... No, I'm not mad... I just lost myself for a second.

Ricken: So why's it such a big deal if I age myself up? I'll become stronger! I'll be able to help Chrom out even more!

Link: ...Ricken, do you remember what I'm called?

Ricken: What you're called? You mean, 'The Hero of Time'?

Link: ...Right... Do you know why they call me that?

Ricken: Well... yeah! You saved your world from evil, didn't you?

Link: That's true, but there's more to it than that... Can you keep a secret?

Ricken: Uh... yeah, definitely! I'm great at keeping secrets!... Actually that's a lie... People tell me I talk too much, to be honest... but I'll make sure I watch my mouth this time!

Link: It's not that big of a deal if you slip up... I just don't want people bugging me about it... The real reason that I'm connected to time, specifically... is because I... lost a significant portion of my life.

Ricken: I... don't get what you mean...

Link: I started my journey in Hyrule when I was younger than you... and when it came time for me to draw the Master Sword, the holy weapon that would ensure my victory... I was sealed away in an alternate dimension... the Sacred Realm, it was called... for seven years.

Ricken: S-Seven whole years?!

Link: During that time, I was just... asleep... far away from Hyrule and its people... unable to stop the suffering that took place over those long years... and then I finally woke up much older than I remembered myself.

Ricken: Wouldn't that be a good thing, too, though? If you're older, that means you're stronger. If you're trying to save the world, don't you want to be as strong as possible?

Link: Yes, it helped me to save Hyrule... but waking up seven years older was a lot for me to handle at the time... I felt like I was trapped inside a body that I didn't recognize... I was experiencing feelings and sensations that I never had before, all at once... And all the while, I'm risking my life in a fight against evil... It wasn't fun, I promise you that.

Ricken: Oh... I hadn't put much thought into stuff like that.

Link: Physically and mentally, I have the body of an eighteen-year-old... but when you factor in the time that was taken from me... I've only lived through around ten actual years... Much less than you, even.

Ricken: ...I'm not even sure how to react to that, Link... I'm sorry that happened to you.

Link: To become the hero that could save Hyrule, I was told that this process was necessary... If that's the truth, then I wouldn't change what happened to me... but I still long for the days of my childhood... and I very much wish that I could go back and live the life that I deserve.

Ricken: Guess it makes sense why you don't want me messing around with this stuff...

Link: You're your own person, Ricken. If skipping over years of your life as a teenager is really what you want... I'm not going to stop you, but I will give you my advice... As someone who grew up too fast, I'm confident you'll regret making that decision.

Ricken: Okay... I understand. I only saw my age as... an obstacle, I guess... I never thought I'd meet someone who had years of their childhood stolen from them. So, I'll try to be more accepting of the life that I do have. I promise.

Ricken: *sigh* What a day... I haven't felt this good in... well, ever!

Link: Hey, Ricken... Great work in that battle.

Ricken: Ah, Link! Did you get to see my awesome skills? I was really hoping you were there to witness it yourself.

Link: Sure did... I came here to tell you so myself. I was very impressed.

Ricken: Yes! I finally impressed you!

Link: ...Ricken, I already told you... I was impressed with you for fighting in this war to begin with...

Ricken: Yeah, but this is different! Anyone can choose to fight, but that doesn't make them capable or reliable.

Link: Well... You're certainly reliable. There's no room for doubt anymore.

Ricken: Man... Today has been awesome... Everyone's been telling me how helpful I was in that fight. I've never been praised like this before.

Link: You've earned it.

Ricken: And I have you to thank, Link. It's because of your advice that I was able to pull that off.

Link: ...What advice?

Ricken: You're always telling me 'Ricken, don't try to be something you're not', 'Ricken, you're already a hero, just focus on filling your role, 'Ricken, don't put yourself in danger just so everyone will see you'... Y'know... Stuff like that.

Link: ...That helped make a difference, then?

Ricken: It did! When we were closing in on the enemy commander, I was the first to get there... I was thinking 'This is your chance! Defeat this lady all by yourself and no one will underestimate you again!'... I bet the old me would have tried it, too.

Link: You didn't take her on, though... Chrom did.

Ricken: Right. I thought it through a little more and realized that she was a valkyrie. If I tried fighting her head on, my spells wouldn't have done much damage to her. So, I sat back and let Chrom take the lead.

Link: You were still around to be his support, at least.

Ricken: Exactly! I pushed Chrom out of the way right when her Bolganone spell was going to hit him, and then it was my Elwind that knocked her off balance and gave Chrom the chance to land the killing blow!

Link: ...You played the situation perfectly.

Ricken: Thank you... and thanks for always being so honest with me. I am young... I know that I can get in over my head a lot. I really think that your guidance has helped me, though. I feel like my dream of being a hero is becoming more of a reality every day.

Link: ...You honestly don't believe me, huh? You are a hero... When all of this is over and I travel back to Hyrule, I'll tell my friends about my time here... and I can guarantee that I'll share plenty about Ricken, the youngest fighter in our army, but also the most courageous.

Ricken: Geez... You're giving me goosebumps talking like that...

Link: Better get used to it. You'll have all of Ylisse singing your praises soon.

Ricken: Hey, Link... I actually have another favor to ask of you.

Link: ...What is it?

Ricken: Before you leave... for good... would you want to have dinner with my family? Through these wars you've been an older brother to me, basically... They'd love to meet you and thank you in person... and it'd be nice to hang out with you one last time.

Link: ...I'd be honored to.

A/N:

For anyone curious about Link's age, Link is said to be 17 in OoT. Take all the time he spends saving Hyrule + however long the first Awakening arc with Gangrel takes + the 2 year time-skip before the Valm arc... For most A-Supports and S-Supports, he'd probably be close to 20/21, I figure. There usually isn't a definite time in the story that these supports take place, but for Ricken's B-Support, I think he'd be around 18/19, as mentioned.
