Maribelle: Excuse me, sir! I don't have the slightest idea what is bouncing around in that empty head of yours, but I require your attention.

Link: ...Oh... Sorry... I was lost in my thoughts.

Maribelle: I can very well see that... but returning to the matter at hand, you had best explain your ongoing behavior to me, foreigner. If I find your rationale lacking, I will make certain that your disrespectful habits are corrected personally.

Link: ...'Disrespectful habits'?... I don't know what you're talking about.

Maribelle: Oh, come now! You truly mean to act the fool now that you have been called out? Fine! I will play along... The issue lies with Princess Lissa. To be more specific, the issue is the manner in which you behave with Princess Lissa.

Link: ...Hmm... Okay... What I am doing wrong, exactly?

Maribelle: First and foremost, I demand you make your intentions crystal clear. You are a newcomer to this realm, yet you have already caught the princess' attention and have formed the beginnings of a friendship. What do you hope to gain from fraternizing with her?

Link: I hope to gain a friend, I guess... Y'know, Lissa's the one who usually seeks me out. I feel like you're... I don't know... implying that I'm dangerous, or something.

Maribelle: You insist that you are not some lecherous, scandalous beast that is using his unproven reputation to get close to Ylisse's royalty?

Link: Yes, I... I am insisting that I am not... that.

Maribelle: And why should I believe you, hmm?

Link: Well... I haven't actually done anything bad, right? Did Lissa tell you that I was bothering her?... Did she tell you that she feels unsafe around me?

Maribelle: Hmph... I suppose she hasn't.

Link: Also... we're fighting together in a war... Isn't it natural for allies to become friends?

Maribelle: All right, you have made your point! I allow you to have contact with the princess, but I will continue to check in with her and assess your behavior.

Link: ...Great...

Maribelle: That is not all I wish to speak on, however.

Link: ...

Maribelle: Only moments ago, you met with the princess, and I happened to overhear you call her 'Lissa'.

Link: ...That is her name, isn't it?

Maribelle: Yes, foreigner, Lissa is her name. That is precisely the problem. You understand that she is royalty, yet you do not address her as such! 'Your Royal Highness'... 'Princess'... even 'Milady' would suffice... Explain yourself, then! Were you raised out in the wilderness? Is that why you forgo even the rudiments of proper etiquette?

Link: ...Yeah... I actually was...

Maribelle: ...What?

Link: In the middle of a forest... That's where I grew up... My mother lost her life so that she could bring me to the forest, where I would be safe.

Maribelle: Is... Is that so?... *ahem* Please, pardon my mistake. I should not have spoken ill of your upbringing like that.

Link: ...I get where you're coming from... but both Lissa and Chrom are okay with me calling them by their first name. So...until they tell me to stop, that's what I'll do.

Maribelle: That is simply because they are too kind-hearted to say so!

Link: If that's the case, ask them yourselves and make sure. Once you do... then come talk to me.

Maribelle: T-That's not...

Link: Listen, Maribelle... I try my best to treat everyone as equals. Whether it's Chrom who comes from the exalted bloodline or Donnel who comes from a country village... I think they appreciate that unbiased treatment.

Maribelle: ...

Link: You, on the other hand, pride yourself on being a noble... You criticize me for lacking the... 'rudiments of proper etiquette' as you called it... Meanwhile, you talk down to others and judge the common folk before you've even gotten to know them... If you want to discuss my manners, I think you should address your own first... Anyway, I have things to do... Have a good day.

Maribelle: Oh, codswallop... I've really made a mess of things this time...

Maribelle: Oh my stars and garters... What a whirlwind of a day!

Link: So... what'd you think? You have fun?

Maribelle: If I may be frank, I was expecting our little trip into the city to wear me down rather quickly. I am still quite shocked at how much I enjoyed myself.

Link: ...Good. I had fun, too.

Maribelle: Now that I have the time to catch my thoughts, I simply must ask you about some of the events that transpired today.

Link: Hmm? Like what?

Maribelle: The first stall we visited... Where you won that old tome as a prize...

Link: The slingshot game?

Maribelle: Yes, that one! How ever did you manage to do so well? I understand that you are quite adept with a bow, but that isn't nearly the same as shooting with that children's toy, wouldn't you agree?

Link: ...I think having good aim does have a lot to do with it... but I also carried a slingshot on me when I was a child... I used it as a weapon, actually. That's why it was so easy for me, I'm sure.

Maribelle: You don't say? Well... I admit that your performance left me a bit star-struck. I'm not one to hand out compliments needlessly, so know that I mean it.

Link: Oh... Thanks, then.

Maribelle: Moving on, you will need to explain to me how you emerged victorious in the arm-wrestling competition.

Link: Ah... I was hoping you wouldn't bring this up...

Maribelle: You defeated several men on your path to winning the entire contest. Mind you, many of them looked twice your size!

Link: ...Yeah, about that...

Maribelle: Your final opponent, that grizzly mercenary leader... He claimed to be 'the strongest man in the halidom'! And I even believed him! What a goliath of a man he was!

Link: ...He was a sight, that's for sure. Had a good three feet over me in height, at least.

Maribelle: Yet, you defeated him! You made it look effortless! I would have the utmost respect for you if I wasn't so bewildered... I want you to be honest with me, Link. What is your secret? Your build, while more than adequate for fighting in this cursed war, is simply outclassed by those burly, muscular men.

Link: ...I cheated.

Maribelle: T-Truly?...

Link: Did you ever notice the gauntlets I was wearing? They're made of gold... A little too flashy for my tastes.

Maribelle: I... Yes, I did take note of them, but I figured they were worn to... enhance your grip or something of the sort.

Link: They aren't... They're powerful tools that greatly enhance my strength. Without them, I definitely wouldn't have stood a chance.

Maribelle: L-Link! How dare you use such underhanded methods! I had thought you a better man, but it seems even you can succumb to the basest desires of greed...

Link: Sorry to disappoint you... I just noticed how taken you were with that dress... You might remember that I offered to buy it off them, but they told me it was one of the prizes for the winner.

Maribelle: You challenged all those men, and even resorted to cheating, just so that you could offer me this gift?

Link: ...I knew that socializing with the commoners in the less fortunate parts of Ylisstol wasn't your idea of a good time... but I really wanted to show you that it could be... And if things didn't work out, I thought that this dress would lift your spirits, at least.

Maribelle: My dear good heavens, Link, what am I to say?... I suppose I have no choice but to forgive you this time... You were right, besides. I enjoyed my time among the commoners a great deal. It was a wonderful day, even, and I have you thank for it.

Maribelle: Thank you for joining me today, Link. You are always punctual when it comes to our meetings, and I greatly appreciate that.

Link: It's no trouble... At first, I wasn't too keen on the idea of... tea time, of all things... I think I'm starting to come around to it, though.

Maribelle: I still fail to understand why you accepted my first invitation, Link. I imagined that you thought me a foul-mannered shrew. The first time I clashed with you, so long ago, you nearly said as much to my face. Did you have a change of heart about me?

Link: I did... It was because you agreed to join me in the capital that day. I found your actions and criticisms of me to be... unfair... but I didn't dislike you. I just disagreed with you... I wanted to see more of the person you were before I decided to avoid you for good.

Maribelle: And you say that your opinion of me has changed?

Link: Mmhmm... I was expecting much worse, but you treated all the commoners with respect... The way you behaved then compared to when we had our argument... It felt like night and day.

Maribelle: I am ever so glad to hear that.

Link: I'm curious, though... Why did you agree to tag along with me? Regardless of who was right or wrong in our fight, I had the same idea that you did... I didn't think you'd want anything to do with me.

Maribelle: Simply put, I realized that you were correct in your assessment of me. Despite giving out many verbal assaults over the years, you are one of the few to stand your ground and fight back. I fear that my... overwhelming personality causes others to mount little opposition. They likely find arguing with me to be pointless, as if they are battling wits with a brick wall.

Link: ...The first step toward fixing a weakness is to recognize it.

Maribelle: Yes, and once I had, I was determined to prove to you, and to myself, that I could right my wrongs... That I could correct my way of thinking and my prejudice.

Link: ...You should be proud that you're improving. That's the reason why I join you for tea so often, y'know... You saw that you were at fault, and you're doing your best to avoid making those same mistakes in the future... I find you to be a very inspiring person.

Maribelle: ...Thank you for saying so.

Link: ...Oh, whoops... We haven't even poured the tea yet...

Maribelle: Do not worry yourself over it, dear. Before we properly serve our beverage, I have one more topic to touch on.

Link: ...Sure.

Maribelle: The noble houses of Ylisse are throwing a royal ball on the first day of the new year. It is only a few weeks away, and as the daughter of the Duke of Themis, my attendance is mandatory.

Link: Mmm... Sounds like something you'd enjoy, yeah?

Maribelle: You are correct. I am rather excited about it all. At least, I would be, if not for a horrid inconvenience that has been placed upon me...

Link: What is it?

Maribelle: The others in my family... They are displeased that I have not shown interest in a suitor, and are worried that I will reflect poorly upon our family name if I attend this event without one.

Link: ...I can see why that would cause a lot of stress...

Maribelle: Link... I surely would understand if you decline, but I must ask: Would you attend this royal ball as my partner?

Link: ...Seriously?... M-Me?

Maribelle: Do not fret! I am not asking for your hand in marriage! I simply ask that you join me so that I will not have some stranger forced upon me. You will act as my 'romantic interest' in name only, I promise you.

Link: ...You're placing a lot of trust in me.

Maribelle: Yes, Link... I do trust you.

Link: All right... but ballroom dancing?... I'll make a fool of you if I go through with this.

Maribelle: Haha! Oh, posh! Do not worry over that detail, darling. I am well acquainted with the proper teachings. I'll have you whipped into shape in no time at all!

Link: *sigh* You say I can decline, but... I don't think there's any way I get out of this one...

Maribelle: I had a feeling I'd find you out here. Are you feeling well, Link?

Link: H-Hey... Sorry, I know I shouldn't be hiding out on a balcony. I just... need a minute...

Maribelle: It's quite all right. I've come to understand that large crowds can make you uneasy. If you need to relax for a spell, then please do.

Link: ...Thanks. All that dancing... It really makes me nervous... Even though it's not especially taxing physically... All that stress leaves me feeling tired anyway.

Maribelle: Despite your internal doubts, you've done a perfect job. You had me a touch worried during our rehearsals, I'll admit... but when the pressure is on, you continue to impress.

Link: ...Good... I don't care if I wear myself out, as long I don't embarrass you in front of all these nobles.

Maribelle: Do not concern yourself with their opinions, Link. The fact that you are not of a noble house is enough for them to look down on you. I ask that you try your best to enjoy yourself, if at all possible.

Link: ...Yeah...

Maribelle: I will be heading back inside, then. When you are feeling well enough, come and find me. I believe some of the other attendees wish to meet you.

Link: ...Could you wait a second?... Please?

Maribelle: Yes?

Link: I just wanted to say that... you look amazing tonight, Maribelle.

Maribelle: ...I... Thank you, dear... You are responsible for winning this gorgeous dress for me, I'm sure you remember?

Link: ...I could never forget.

Maribelle: Though, that was an uncharacteristically brazen compliment from you... Are you certain you're fine, Link? I know you are feeling stressed, but is that all this is?

Link: ...*sigh* No... It's not...

Maribelle: Would you please tell me the truth, then? I'm beginning to worry about you, darling.

Link: I've been so... close to you, lately... All these rehearsals... the tea... and now I'm finally dancing with you in front of a crowd in a fancy ballroom... I'm tired of keeping my emotions in check...

Maribelle: Do you need to lie down? Do not endure this for my sake. Your health comes before this meaningless party.

Link: I can't keep dancing with you, and holding hands, and pretending that this is real... It's painful in a way I'm unfamiliar with.

Maribelle: ...I'm afraid I don't understand, Link. Do you wish to leave? Please, do so if you must. I will not hate you for it, I assure you.

Link: I'm sorry if this ruins tonight for you... Really, I am... but I don't want to fake this relationship anymore... I want to tell you how I really feel.

Maribelle: Oh, heavens... Are you-

Link: If you would allow it, Maribelle Themis... I'd like to court you for real this time.

Maribelle: ...I do not believe you will ever stop impressing me, Link.

Link: ...Then... you...?

Maribelle: Yes, darling. I accept your proposal without a second thought.

Link: *sigh*... Thank you... I can already feel my anxiety melting away...

Maribelle: Were you truly so worried that I would turn you away? You must not have been paying me enough attention, my love.

Link: I couldn't help it. It's impossible to think clearly when I'm around you... 'Love is blind' they say... I was always second guessing myself and overthinking what you'd do. It's almost scary when I think about it...

Maribelle: Hah! You make it sound as if your feelings for me are a curse rather than a blessing!

Link: ...No... Now that I know you feel the same, I wouldn't trade this for the world.

Maribelle: Well, darling, I hate to cut this short, but we'll have the rest of our lives to profess our love for each other. Shall we return? I have a feeling that our next dance will be one that is unforgettable.

Link: I'm right behind you.
