Link: ...Manakete?

Nowi: C'mon, show me your breath attack! I wonder if it's stronger than mine...

Link: ...What are you talking about, Nowi?

Nowi: I don't know why you're trying to keep it a secret, but you don't need to be shy! Turn into a dragon! We'll have such a good time!

Link: ...Am I missing something?... Sorry, but I'm not a dragon. I don't have any... breath attacks to show.

Nowi: Stop playing dumb already! I didn't notice until now, but you have long, pointy ears like me, see? That means you're also a manakete!

Link: ...Ah, I get it... I'm sorry to disappoint you, but I'm a Hylian... a completely different race from my home world. Hylians also have pointed ears... We can't turn into dragons, though.

Nowi: ...Oh... Darn it, I... I really thought I found one this time...

Link: Hey... Try not to feel too bad about it, Nowi. Manaketes live for thousands of years, right?... That means you have all the time in the world to search for your people.

Nowi: *sigh* I knoooow... I just wish I had another dragon to play with, that's all. Humans are fun too, but they get tired so fast... and I think I scare them sometimes...

Link: Do you... wanna play with me?

Nowi: You?! You're really nice, Link, but you're also real quiet... and kinda boring. I think I'd have more fun with Virion. He's so silly!

Link: Well, that's probably true... but I might be able to offer something... new and exciting, maybe.

Nowi: Oh! You have some new games to share?!

Link: I guess you could say that. Where I grew up, kids liked playing with slingshots... You wanna try mine out?

Nowi: Oooh, that does look like fun! How does it work?

Link: Here... take this bag of deku seeds... You put one behind that rubber section, draw the string back, and launch it.

Nowi: Okay! And what am I supposed to hit?

Link: Hmm... I could make some targets out of wood for you... Empty cans also work pretty good.

Nowi: Ah! I have the perfect idea! Bye, Link! I'll bring your toy back later!

Link: N-Nowi! You can't shoot Virion with it!

Nowi: ...Aww, lame...

Link: Please, no shooting anyone with the slingshot... I'll have a lot of people mad at me if you do.

Nowi: This is cool and all, but how about we play with those yellow mousies you have?

Link: Yellow... mousies?

Nowi: I've seen you use them before! They're yellow and blue, they scurry across the ground, and then they blow up! Those are waaay more exciting!

Link: ...Oh... My bombchus?... Absolutely not.

Nowi: What?! Whyyy?!

Link: Nowi, you'll kill someone playing around with those.

Nowi: Geez... Guess we'll have to play something else then...

B-Support

Nowi: Heehee! That was a great round! Y'know, Link, you're a lot better at duck duck dragon than I thought you'd be. We've been playing for a long time, and you're still going!

Link: *pant* Y-Yeah... I'm trying to, at least...

Nowi: When I play with Virion, he needs to take a break after I hit him with just one breath attack. I like playing with him, but he can be such a baby! It's just a little fire...

Link: S-Sure...

Nowi: I've already hit you with a bunch of fireballs today, and you haven't taken a single break! You're exactly the kind of friend I've been looking for!

Link: I think you need to cut Virion some slack, Nowi... The only reason I can put up with all this is because I have my flame-resistant tunic on.

Nowi: Oh, I see! That's why you're wearing red today! It looks nice, but I think your green outfit is prettier.

Link: ...Uh... Noted.

Nowi: Hey, Link... Do you actually like playing with me?

Link: Hmm?... Of course I do... I wouldn't be here if I didn't, right?

Nowi: I think some people only say yes because they're sorry for me... I complain a lot... and I can be really annoying... It's still nice of them to play with me, but I start to feel bad when I realize that I kinda... guilted them into it...

Link: That might be the case, sometimes... but they're your friends, and that's what friends do.

Nowi: Friends should be honest with each other, though!

Link: ...I don't think they're trying to deceive you or anything... It's just... you have a lot of energy, and even if they don't want to play duck duck dragon, they do want to make you happy.

Nowi: Argh! Why do friendships have to be so complicated?

Link: ..If it makes you feel any better... I like playing duck duck dragon.

Nowi: You mean that?... You're always so nice and polite, Link. How do I know you aren't just trying to cheer me up?

Link: You know how I saved my world from a great evil? Well... that wasn't something that I wanted to do... It was something that I had to do... Suddenly, I was thrust into this adventure to fight for all of Hyrule... and before I knew it, my childhood had passed me by.

Nowi: That doesn't sound very fair...

Link: Point is... I enjoy having the chance to act like a kid again... I've always felt like I missed out.

Nowi: In that case, it's a good thing we found each other! I've played with everyone in the Shepherds, so I know for sure that I'm the best at having fun. If you stick with me, I promise that we'll make up for all that time you lost!

Link: Thanks, Nowi... I'm lucky to have a friend like you.

Nowi: You bet! So, whaddya wanna play now? Hide-and-seek? House? I think Virion's in his tent... We could go surprise him!

Link: I've been thinking... maybe I can trust you enough to let you set off some bombchus.

Nowi: Those yellow mousies? Yes! You're the best, Link!

Link: We have to do this far away from camp, though. The less people that know about this, the better... And you also have to do exactly as I say. If you don't listen to me and get yourself hurt, I'll... stop playing duck duck dragon with you... forever.

Nowi: Yes sir!

A-Support

Nowi: ...

Link: ...Nowi? You doing okay? You look... down today.

Nowi: ...I'm sad... and scared...

Link: Do you wanna talk with me about it?

Nowi: ...Link, do you ever have nightmares?

Link: Nightmares?... Yeah... Every once in a while.

Nowi: What are they about? Are they sad ones?

Link: I wouldn't call them sad... Most of them involve me fighting in battle... and dying... They're more... scary than anything.

Nowi: Gosh... That must be the worst!

Link: The worst one I've ever had was getting caught by a wallmaster... During my journey, I had to explore the bottom of a well... It's the creepiest place I've ever been to, and it was crawling with these... giant, nasty, hand monsters... They would drop down from the ceiling and grab me... I wish I could wipe those things from my mind.

Nowi: Geez, Link! Your nightmares are so much scarier than mine. Now I feel like a big wuss...

Link: It's fine. It's not a competition... Can I ask what your dream was about?

Nowi: I was alone again... All of my friends were gone... You were gone.

Link: ...Oh...

Nowi: And I'm not stupid. I know that I'm going to outlive everyone here, so this isn't just some fake story that I made up... It is going to happen someday, just like it did all those other times...

Link: ...

Nowi: You're, like, my best friend... but you're going to leave me even sooner, aren't you? You're gonna go back home, where you really want to be.

Link: ...Yeah... I will...

Nowi: I'm being a super terrible friend right now... I know that this is even harder for you, Link... You're going to have to leave the Shepherds all at once, and here I am making you feel bad for wanting to go home... I'm sorry.

Link: ...It'll be tough on everybody... Saying goodbye is never easy... but that's why we need to enjoy the present as much as we can. These hour-long sessions of duck duck dragon we've been having... That's the kind of stuff we need to keep doing... Even though I'll only have been in this world for a few years, just think of all the memories we'll have of each other... Doesn't that make you happy?

Nowi: ...Y-Yeah, it does!

Link: So... c'mon, let's stop worrying about things like that for now, okay? We still have more memories to make.

Nowi: You're so right! We going to have as much fun as we can before you go!

Link: Wanna try some horseback riding? I could try and teach you.

Nowi: Psh! Heck no! Horses are too slow for me. I have a better idea; I turn into a dragon, and you ride on my back. Then, I can take you up over the clouds! Doesn't that sound awesome?!

Link: ...Ehhh...

Nowi: I know Sumia let you ride her pegasus before, but I can fly way faster than they can. It's gonna be suspenseful, and exciting, and heart-pounding!

Link: ...Sounds to me like it'd just be... dangerous...

S-Support

Link: ...All right, all right... You got me... *pant* How about we... take a timeout for a bit...

Nowi: Aw, but the game's starting to get good! I guess you can take a little break.

Link: Geez... Playing tag with a dragon has got to be one of the most effective ways to build stamina...

Nowi: Link... I know I'm not supposed to, but... I've been thinking about saying goodbye to you again.

Link: ...Mmm... We are getting close to ending all this fighting... I'm sure it's hard not to think about it.

Nowi: What if I just stay with you? We wouldn't have to say goodbye then! Well... not until you get old and die, anyway.

Link: ...Stay with me? But I'm going back to Hyrule, Nowi.

Nowi: What if we got married? Then you'd have to take me with you, and everything would be fine!

Link: ...I'm... flattered that you would even consider that... but I don't think you should make a decision like that on a whim... I'm not sure if either of us are ready for that kind of commitment in the first place.

Nowi: Why not?! Don't you like me?

Link: Of course I do... I just see you as more of a... little sister... or I guess you'd be my older sister, really...

Nowi: *sigh* Fine, as long as we can still be friends... But I still wanna go with you! You don't mind, right?

Link: ...Don't you want to stay here and search for other manaketes?

Nowi: I do, but there's no guarantee that I'll find them. I've been alive for, like, a thousand years, and the only other one I've found is Tiki. What if I end up searching for another thousand years and never find more?

Link: ...I guess that is possible...

Nowi: Then I'm not doing it! I'd rather be with you than have to travel the world all by myself... I'd be so lonely, and I don't even know if my family is out there.

Link: ...

Nowi: But there is something I do know! I know you're my best friend, Link! I wish I could spend the whole rest of my life being friends with you.

Link: Well... I'm not sure how I could turn down an honest request like that. I guess... you can travel to Hyrule with me, Nowi.

Nowi: Yay! Thank you so much!

Link: Honestly, I think you'll really like it there... The Kokiri are gonna love you... I bet the Gorons will, too... Well, actually... they'll be deathly afraid of you probably... but we can work on that.

Nowi: Oh, and I have an idea! Naga asked for your help, right? You're helping us stop Grima, so she'll be super thankful to you, right?

Link: Hmm... Yeah, I think so... Where are you going with this?

Nowi: Since she's all powerful and divine n' stuff, maybe she can make you stay young like I do! Y'know, make it so you live for thousands of years, too? She owes you, so it shouldn't be a big deal!

Link: Hah! I have no idea if she can do that, but I might as well ask her.

Nowi: Sometimes you can be too nice, so I'll be there to yell at her if you need me to! I'm pretty good at getting what I want!

Link: I'm well aware... Also, now that I think about it... Zelda and the sages might be able to help... I was going to be sent into the past before I came here... The temple of time was able to send me into a seven-year slumber... I imagine I've got a few favors saved up, and they might just have the means... Maybe extending my life isn't such a long shot...

A/N:

I decided to make this one more platonic despite having an S-support. Regardless of her age, Nowi's mental state is very child-like so this is how I wanted to do it. Writing it this way also makes for some decent variety in the way my S-supports tend to go. Sorry to anyone who doesn't like it.

I also want to thank those who've left reviews on this fic so far. Everyone has been very kind, and hearing that my writing feels like it could fit in the actual game is the best compliment I could ask for.

In response to a review: The idea of making parent/child supports for Link and the children units is something that has definitely crossed my mind and sounds like a lot of fun. It's a great idea, but I think I've got my hands full just trying to complete the regular supports. Maybe I'll consider it in the future, but I've got no plans for it now.
