Link: Hey... Libra, what are you...

Libra: I thank you for this day. After relentless fighting and brutal bloodshed, this beautiful weather will surely serve as a boon upon our comrades. I pray that we all will appreciate even the smallest of these blessings that you willingly give... In Naga's name...

Link: ...

Libra: Link? I apologize if I kept you waiting. I often lose track of time during prayer. Is something the matter?

Link: Oh, uh... No... I just didn't want to disturb you... You seemed pretty focused.

Libra: Not to worry. I was only engaged in routine worship. While it is an act that is I enjoy immensely, I partake in it many times throughout the day. It is not so important that I cannot be interrupted.

Link: I see... I was just going to fetch you for lunch, but...

Libra: Is something on your mind?

Link: ...After hearing your prayer, I started thinking about the religion here... It's a, uh... interesting topic for me, you could say.

Libra: Do you have any questions that I might help you with? I do not claim to have all answers, but as a man of the cloth, I believe I am better equipped to educate in this field than most.

Link: ...You worship Naga, right? I'm just... curious as to why, I guess... From what I've heard, she isn't hailed as a creator of the world or anything like that.

Libra: Nay, she is not. Her reverence is attributed to her role as a savior for mankind. Nearly one-thousand years ago, Naga bestowed the very first Exalt with her power, and with this power, the fell dragon Grima was put to rest. It is thanks to Naga's gift that our world lives on today.

Link: ...The Exalt's power? Is that similar to the Brand that Chrom has?

Libra: Exactly right. Naga's blessing resulted in a pact on the exalted bloodline, which then took the form of the Brand. This mark has been passed down to his descendants ever since.

Link: Hmm... Reminds me of Hyrule's own royal family...

Libra: I also confess that I have my own... selfish reasons... for involving myself in the faith. You see, I grew up in poverty as an abandoned child. For the first several years of my life, I knew only suffering. It wasn't until I was found by followers of Naga that my plight began to improve. I fell in love with their teachings, their desire to help others, and most of all, their acceptance of me.

Link: ...I'm sorry you had to go through all that.

Libra: You needn't feel bad on my behalf. Despite my rough beginnings, that path has led me here. If you must feel something for me, be joyful that I now am able to do what I love.

Link: ...I admire your attitude. I don't think many people could manage such a healthy outlook on life after experiencing that kind of childhood.

Libra: What of you, Link? You hail from a world all your own. Is this world also home to a god or goddess? Do they have devout followers? Are you one of them? I am curious to hear of your personal dealings with this subject.

Link: ...Ehh... My relationship with higher powers is... complicated... I think that's why your prayer got me thinking.

Libra: Would you care to talk with me about this relationship?

Link: ...Sorry, but I don't think so... Maybe another time, Libra. Thanks for talking with me, anyway.

Libra: ...Hmm... Troubling...

Libra: Good afternoon, Link. Are you busy at the moment?

Link: Nah... I'm just finishing some chores... What's up?

Libra: Some time has passed since our previous conversation about my journey into the faith, yet your comments still weigh heavy on my mind. Would you be open to having another?

Link: ...Do I want to?... Not really... but I'm open to it, I guess... Anything specific you want to ask me about?

Libra: You claimed that your 'relationship with higher powers is complicated'. Would you elaborate more on that?

Link: *sigh* Well... remember how you said that life got better when you turned to religion?

Libra: Yes.

Link: For me... as I become more involved with gods, goddesses, and deities... my life always seems to get more difficult.

Libra: The gods brought you hardship? How so?

Link: I thought gods were supposed to be these all-powerful beings... but when the world is in danger and in need of saving, they keep calling on me... I don't get it... When I hear others in prayer, they often ask the gods for fortune, protection, good luck, and all the rest... With me, though, it's the opposite... The gods seek me.

Libra: I see... If the story of your arrival to this world is to be believed, Naga is one of these gods?

Link: Yeah... Despite being worshiped by thousands of Ylissians, she was so powerless to help humanity that she turned to heroes from other worlds to fight in her stead.

Libra: ...I assume that you experienced something similar with the gods of your home world?

Link: Mmhmm... Same story... I was chosen by Farore, the goddess of courage, as her champion, and she gave me a portion of her power... but when it came time to fight and to protect the people of Hyrule... the actual work... It was just me.

Libra: Perhaps by labeling them as goddesses and deities, we are overestimating the true extent of their strength. They may possess great power, but that does not mean they can will miracles into existence on a whim.

Link: Just to be clear... I'm not blaming Naga or Farore for calling upon me... If they had the power to stop these threats themselves, they wouldn't hesitate to use that power. I know that they're choosing what they believe is the best course of action... If you're wondering why I'm not some devout follower, though... well... that's why.

Libra: I more than understand, Link. Your reasons for showing hesitance in faith are certainly valid.

Link: ...I'm glad you're able to accept that. I was a little nervous to even bring this up to you... I figured you might not take kindly to me saying all this since you're... y'know... a priest. You're more open-minded about this than I thought you'd be.

Libra: I try my best. Everyone lives wildly different lives, after all. We cannot expect our views to be shared by every single person, nor should we push those views onto those who disagree. Hearing of the contrasts in peoples ideals and values is one of life's greatest joys, I believe.

Link: ...I very much agree...

Libra: Thank you for sharing your story with me, Link. I have a much stronger grasp of your view. And, of course, if you have any lingering questions that I might help answer, you need only ask.

Link: ...Sounds good.

Link: Wait up, Libra.

Libra: Link? You require something of me?

Link: ...I heard in camp that you do volunteer work at some of the orphanages we come across... Is that true?

Libra: Yes, it is. I bring toys, tell stories, give them attention... Whatever I can do to make their days just a bit brighter. With the ongoing war, I know that it isn't the most responsible use for my time, but I can't help myself. I think that because I was also an orphan, I sympathize with the children too much to do nothing.

Link: ...I see...

Libra: Coincidentally, I'll be making a trip to the local orphanage tonight, but I still have food and gifts to secure before I am ready. If you'll excuse me...

Link: Can I... Can I come with you?

Libra: To the orphanage?

Link: Yeah... If that's okay with you.

Libra: May I ask why you wish to join me?

Link: ...Your willingness to help is... contagious, I guess... I want to help spread that hope, too... I want to do my part, y'know?

Libra: Link, I do not doubt your intention... but you have more than done your part. You fight for every life in this world, and you do it with an unmatched focus. I fear that you gravely underestimate how much you have already done for us all.

Link: W-Wait... That's not what I meant... I just... I want to help make those kids happy, is all. Regardless of what else I'm doing or have done... This is something I'd like to do.

Libra: You're sure of this? These orphans are all precious souls, but they tend to be quite starved of affection. They can be real handfuls, is what I'm getting at. I worry that they'll tire you out before you have a chance to catch your breath.

Link: ...I think I'll be fine. You might not know this, but I grew up in a forest, surrounded by other children of the woods, and we had nothing to do but get into trouble... If I can handle Mido, I can handle a couple kids.

Libra: In that case, I'd love for you to accompany me, Link. As I've already said, I'll be bringing small gifts and snacks to give out. Perhaps you'd also like to bring some offerings of your own?

Link: Hmm... I don't know if I have much on me that a kid would want... How about the tail of a lizalfos? They're basically big, lizard warriors... A kid would like that, right?

Libra: I... don't believe that to be an appropriate gift for a child, Link.

Link: ...Chuchu jelly?

Libra: I would advise against anything that you've collected from fallen creatures.

Link: ...Oh... All right...

Libra: Do not feel pressured to provide something. Your attention alone is a gift in itself, you see.

Link: ...True... Well, maybe I can just show off some of my gear... When I was young, getting a hold of the Kokiri Sword was a dream of mine... I bet these kids'll go crazy over the Master Sword.

Libra: I would also strongly advise against sharing weapons with the children. That is an accident waiting to happen.

Link: ...Hmm, okay... Guess it's better to be safe than sorry.

Libra: I hate to mistrust you, but after I heard the story of you and Nowi playing with explosives, I must be firm with these restrictions.

Link: Y-You know about that?!

Libra: Indeed, and I am not the only one.

Link: ...That's not gonna paint me in a good light...

Libra: If you would like my advice, I think it best if you simply be yourself. You don't need to have a plan prepared or instructions to follow. I'm sure the children will take to you with little effort.

Link: ...All right, I'll just follow your lead, then.

Libra: And thank you for lending your time like this, Link. Your soul shines so brilliantly in all that do. I'm thankful that Naga made our meeting possible.

Link: Heh... Right back at you... Your fondness for people has really left an impression on me. I hope to pass on these views of yours to the people of Hyrule someday.

A/N:

I worry that this one ended up not so interesting. I thought a lot about different directions I could go with it, but I got tired of putting it off. The main topic I wanted to hit was Link's dealings with Hyrule's goddesses and Naga, and I did. I hope it isn't too dull of a read.
