Morgan: Oh, hey, hey, Mr. Link! Over here!

Link: ...Morgan? What's wrong?

Morgan: Do you have a minute? I was hoping to probe your brain for a bit!

Link: ...Uh... What does that mean?

Morgan: Don't panic! I'm just gonna ask some questions, that's all. I won't actually open your head up and mess with your frontal lobe or anything.

Link: I... I figured that much, but... Okay, sure... What do you wanna know?

Morgan: So you're some special hero, isn't that right? That seems to be your defining characteristic, even.

Link: ...Yeah, that's fair to say... It's the thing about me that catches people's interest most of the time.

Morgan: Good, we're on the same page! Now, what does a legendary hero do, exactly?

Link: You're asking about what I... do? Like... my job or mission?

Morgan: Yes, you've got it! Oh, but I'm not talking about fighting evil and darkness and villains. I already have plenty of that in my life, thank you very much. I'm interested in the other stuff that you do.

Link: Well, I... I like to explore?

Morgan: Mmm! Of course! Exploring! Why didn't I think of that?... Oh wait... I can't go exploring too far from camp, though. What if everyone packs up and starts marching while I'm gone? Father would be real mad.

Link: ...You're just looking for something fun to do? Is that why you're curious?

Morgan: Yup, that's right! I'm on the prowl for new hobbies, so hit me with your best ideas! Preferably, ones that are exciting. I knew you'd have good suggestions, of course, because you're an adventurer. You must love danger and thrills like me!

Link: ...I think you've got me wrong, Morgan...

Morgan: Oh, but what am I saying? I shouldn't be so quick to throw in the towel, right? Exploring might be just the passion I'm searching for. Tell me, Mr. Link; what kind of exploring are you into? Do you jump across the treetops of forests, or climb the tallest of mountaintops, or swim across entire oceans? Maybe you're a cavern spelunker! Oh, wouldn't that get the heart pounding?!

Link: Hmm... Sure, I've got experience traversing those types of places... The Lost Woods... Death Mountain... Lake Hylia's no ocean, but... I've been to some diverse locations, that's for sure.

Morgan: Wow! You've even explored caverns?!

Link: Yeah, quite a few... I wasn't after thrills, though. The goal was to find treasure... I usually had to fight my way through a few monsters or solve a puzzle, but there was always some kind of reward waiting for me at the end.

Morgan: Woah-ho! That's even more exciting!... And hey, I remember seeing a cave not too far from here. Would you accompany me while I check it out, Mr. Link? Please, please, pleeease? We might find some treasuuure!

Link: Sorry, but I doubt that... Ever since I arrived in this world, I've been searching tunnels and caves like I did back in Hyrule... I've yet to find anything worthwhile, though.

Morgan: We won't know unless we try. This cave might be your lucky break! A chest full of gold! An ancient sorcerer's spell tome! The legendary spear, Gradivus! A bottle of milk that tastes even better than the kind you drink all day! We could be the ones to discover all of that and more!

Link: Haha... You are very persistent... All right, lead the way, then. If there's milk in that cave, I'll make sure we find it.

Morgan: Oh, Mr. Liiiink! Yoo-hoo! Ready for another exhilarating, excavation mission?

Link: ...Another one?

Morgan: Yes sir! When I visited that last village, I asked around, and one guy mentioned some super old, super dank ruins close by that everyone avoids. Supposedly, it's a pretty ominous place, so... what do you say?

Link: I'm surprised you're still interested in this stuff... Last time didn't go so well.

Morgan: What do you mean? Our last mission was incredible! I thought you had fun too, but was I wrong?

Link: I didn't mind it. We just didn't find any treasure... and you were terrified the whole way through.

Morgan: T-That's not true... I might have been timid at first, but it didn't take long for my fearless side to show!

Link: ...Your 'fearless side'?... Is that the side you were showing when you tripped on a rock and screamed in my ear? You thought that a skeleton had grabbed onto your foot.

Morgan: Haha! Now that you mention it, I guess I was totally scared, wasn't I? Not that it mattered, though! I had my heroic escort with me, stalwart and steadfast! Nothing can phase you, can it?

Link: ...I was definitely phased by you... Every time you heard a sound, you'd hold onto me tighter than a floormaster.

Morgan: Oh, haha! Sorry! I probably wasn't paying attention to how close we were.

Link: It-It's fine... I mean, if I was able to keep you calm, then... that's good.

Morgan: So you'll still escort me, Mr. Link?

Link: ...Aren't you around the same age as me?... You make me feel old when you call me 'mister'.

Morgan: I... don't actually know how old I am, to be honest... 'Cause of the whole memory loss thing, y'know?

Link: Oh... Right... Sorry, I didn't-

Morgan: It's okay! I do know that I'm from the future. Not the same one as Lucina and the others, but... some sort of future timeline! So, it's very likely that we're at least close in age. In fact, I might even be older than you. Wouldn't that be a twist?

Link: Uh, sure... Well, let's just assume that you are... Then you can stop treating me like a man in his forties.

Morgan: But you're too stoic all the time, don't you think? Anything that gets you flustered and showing more emotion is a plus!

Link: ...If you say so...

Morgan: All right, enough fooling around for now. So, you will go with me, then? I'll be scared out of my wits if I go alone. You're not the type to leave a poor, clumsy girl to stumble around in the dark by herself, are you?

Link: Wouldn't you rather do something else?... We probably won't find anything, same as last time.

Morgan: Last time, we explored a cave. This time, it's ruins. Ruins, Mr. Link! We might find actual monsters this time. I bet we'll find a Redead, even!

Link: Those are monsters from my world, so you won't find them here... and why are you so excited about that? Redeads are so frightening that you can hardly get away once they've seen you... That's the last thing you'd want to come across.

Morgan: How about a wolfos? We need to find something scary, but not too dangerous. It's to enhance that thrill of adventure!

Link: Morgan... Those things could seriously hurt you.

Morgan: ...Stalchildren?

Link: *sigh* I don't know how you can be so cheerful about finding real, genuine monsters... Remind me never to take you to Hyrule.

Morgan: Hello, hellooo? Is my unshakable knight around here?... Ah, and here you are. I come bearing good news!

Link: ...Hey, Morgan...

Morgan: Hmm... Are you feeling okay, Link? You don't look so great.

Link: ...I, uh... I don't know... Lately, I'm caught up in my thoughts too much.

Morgan: Got a lot on your mind, huh? That's unusual for you, isn't it?

Link: ...I suppose...

Morgan: People say I'm too upbeat most of the time, so maybe I can help!... I mean, probably not, but... if I can help, I'd like to! I could even just listen if you want. Would that be helpful?

Link: ...Do you think... *sigh* Never mind, Morgan. This is a stupid question...

Morgan: No, no! I promise it's not stupid! Go ahead, you can ask me. Do I think what?

Link: ...Do you think the people of Hyrule hate me?

Morgan: 'Hate you'?! Why would they hate you, Link? Didn't you save them all? They'd be dead without your help, right?

Link: Still... I left them alone and unguarded to come here and fight... Was that responsible of me?... Maybe 'hate' is too strong a word, but they must be getting tired of my act... I've abandoned them again, right when the kingdom is in need of rebuilding... I didn't consider the feelings of my friends at all, I just let myself be whisked away to another world... That was selfish of me, wasn't it?

Morgan: Haha! Well... sorry, Link! I promised you that your question wasn't stupid, but it kiiinda was.

Link: Y-Yeah... I thought you might react that way...

Morgan: If anyone in Hyrule is mad at you for leaving, they're the selfish ones, not you. You put your life on the line for them so many times! They're not mad at you, Link, they're grateful. You've gotta trust me on this!

Link: ...You really think so?

Morgan: Yep! I sure do! If you want proof, just look at the Shepherds.

Link: You guys?

Morgan: Mmhmm! If you told us that you had business to take care of back in Hyrule and had to leave tomorrow, do you think we'd be upset?

Link: ...No... I don't.

Morgan: That's right! We're indebted to you, Link! You've already done so much for us, but more importantly, you're our friend. We'd support you in whatever it is you decide to do, I promise you that. And I mean it this time! It's a true, honest-to-goodness promise between pals.

Link: ...Thanks, Morgan... I think your perspective has been very helpful... That bright outlook of yours is a real gift, you know that?

Morgan: Hee hee! I've got that going for me, at least!... Oh my gosh, I got completely side-tracked! I came looking for you so that we could explore this dangerous chasm that I found!

Link: 'D-Dangerous chasm'? You're still going on about this stuff?... I thought this cavern exploring thing was just a phase that you'd grow bored with eventually.

Morgan: Nope! This is no phase! At this point, my love for exploring might have transformed into a full-on addiction. What a perilous hobby, huh? It's unfortunate that the excavating life chose me, but what else can you do but roll with the punches?

Link: There's plenty else you could do. Aren't you into magic and tactics?... If it's gotta be something new, I could teach you archery, or horse-back riding, or-

Morgan: Don't dally, my escort! There might be a Like-Like at the bottom of the pit, just waiting to gobble me up! You won't let such a gruesome fate befall me, will you?

Link: Tch... We haven't found a single monster in any of these caves, let alone a creature from Hyrule... But she is pretty reckless... I can't have her falling and getting injured with no one there to help, so someone's gotta tag along... Time for me to learn how to roll with the punches, I guess.

Morgan: Wow! These flowers of yours sure are something! They must be from Hyrule, huh?

Link: ...They're called Brightbloom seeds... Throw one on the ground, and you've got an instant light source... They're the perfect tool for navigating dark places like this.

Morgan: I'll say! You've got so many weird tricks up your sleeve, Link. It's a good thing I chose you as my exploring buddy, am I right?

Link: ...Yeah...

Morgan: All right... I'm not sure how much farther this cave goes, but how about we take a break here? It's so spooky in here, after all... I need time to calm my nerves!

Link: …

Morgan: Link?... Hey, Mr. Link!... Hello? Are you paying attention?

Link: Hmm? Were you talking to me?

Morgan: Hey! I can't have you daydreaming on me, y'know. We've gotta stay alert! We may not have encountered any Lizalfos in this world, but you never know when that might change!

Link: ...R-Right...

Morgan: Hmm... I think something's bothering you. You're not feeling bad about leaving home again, are you?

Link: ...I'm sorry... It's just hard not to think about.

Morgan: sigh* Liiiink... I already told you not to worry about all that.

Link: I... I know, but-

Morgan: No! No 'buts'! It's pointless to fret over, Link. I mean, just think about it... You feel bad about leaving them, but what are you going to do, then? Will you go back to Hyrule before you've helped the Shepherds win the war?

Link: N-No, of course not!

Morgan: Then stop dwelling on it, okay? You need to focus on what's in front of you. That's what Father always says.

Link: Robin tells you that?

Morgan: That's right. When I was first reunited with him, I was so determined to recover my lost memories. I would do really dumb stuff like bang my head against a wall. I seriously had a one-track mind for a while...

Link: I can't blame you... Our memories are a huge part of who we are... Trying so hard to remember them isn't dumb at all.

Morgan: That's true, but Father noticed how this was all affecting me. Besides my few memories of him, I couldn't recall anything else, and I wasn't taking it well... So, he told me to stop... He told me that whether my memories return to me or not, the best thing to do is enjoy the present.

Link: ...He wants you to make new memories.

Morgan: Yes, that's exactly it! And I was so obsessed with my past that it was preventing me from enjoying all the amazing things in front of me. That's why I'm here in this cave, right now!

Link: ...The reason you asked me to explore these places with you was just to make new memories?

Morgan: Now you're getting it. C'mon, just look around! We're a young couple in love, bravely venturing through the land's most terrifying corners! Don't let your gloomy thoughts get in the way of experiencing-

Link: W-Wait, wait... Back up... Did you say that we're a... 'young couple in love'?

Morgan: What? I-I wouldn't say that!... No, I said that we're a young, uh... Oh no, I did say that! H-How could I slip up like this?!

Link: ...You just misspoke, right? If you didn't mean to say it, then-

Morgan: Haha! Aw heck, I guess I might as well come clean, then!

Link: ...Huh?

Morgan: All right, I admit it! I've really got the hots for you, Link. I thought you might catch on since I've been so clingy with you, y'know?

Link: Oh... I just... figured you were scared, so...

Morgan: Aw, don't feel embarrassed, silly! You're a little clueless, but that's okay. It's endearing! Oh, and don't worry about not figuring it out. I didn't plan on confessing here in this scary cavern, but maybe it was a good thing. At least, here, you can't as easily see how badly I must be blushing right now! Hee hee!

Link: Well, uh... then this is great, because... I secretly enjoyed being your protector all this time... and your constant touching is... nerve-wracking, but... I like how it feels, too...

Morgan: Yes! This is amazing! Our love has blossomed beautifully!

Link: ...Pretty unexpectedly, I'd say...

Morgan: Isn't it? How's that for a lesson on learning to enjoy the present? Revealing your love in a spur of the moment!

Link: Can't argue with that... You've cured me of my brooding in no time at all.

Morgan: Ah, my dashing escort! My life-long protector! Who needs memories when I've found my one, true love?

Link: Wow... You're really over the moon about this.

Morgan: You bet I am! That's one of the upsides of losing my memories, you see. It's even more incredible when I get to make new ones!

Link: Psh... Ever the optimist... But that's what I like most about you.

Morgan: Aw, thanks! Now get over here! We're still deep in the middle of a dark and creepy cave, I'll have you know. I need some comforting cuddles from my escort, and I need them right away!

Link: Uh... Ah, r-right...

A/N:

My updates will probably be slow from this point, but I'm still determined to finish this. Not sure what character I'll write next. I don't have a ton of ideas for Yarne, Noire, and Laurent, so Nah might be first.

I wrote this chapter with Female Morgan in mind. For Robin's chapter, I used they/them pronouns so that the reader can choose the gender that they'd prefer. I considered doing the same here, but it feels more fluid to write when I can specify Morgan's particular gender, and their parent's as well. Still, Female Morgan and Male Morgan are very similar characters. If you'd prefer to read this with Male Morgan in mind, I'm sure that it works almost just as well.

I threw in a few tiny TotK references. I'm enjoying it a bunch so far!
