Noire: Ughhh... What happened?... I'm in... the infirmary tent?

Link: Hey... Glad to see you're awake, but try not to move too much... Your wound still needs time to-

Noire: AHHH! G-Get away from me! Don't come any closer!

Link: Wh-What's wrong?!... It's me, Link... You know I'm an ally, right? I won't hurt you.

Noire: J-Just stand back... o-over there! By the tent flap, please!

Link: A-All right... Is this okay?

Noire: Th-That's better... *sigh* Gods, I nearly passed out again... I guess it's my fault for not asking first, but from now on, could you please keep your distance from me?

Link: ...Sure, that's no problem, but... why?... You do know that I'm with the Shepherds, right?

Noire: I-I mean no offense, honest! And I know that you're on our side. You were part of the group that saved me from those bandits, so I know that I can trust you... but...

Link: Talk to me, Noire... What is it?

Noire: It's your presence... It's disturbing...

Link: I'm... I'm not sure what you mean... Are you talking about my aura, maybe?... Tharja also avoids me because of my bright aura... And you're her daughter, so maybe you can sense it too?

Noire: No, I've never been able to perceive auras like Mother can... There's something different that you're carrying... Something sinister... I've never come across one like this, but... I think it's a curse.

Link: ...Really? A curse?... I had no idea... Well, is there anything you can tell me about it?... If it's dangerous or who cast it on me?

Noire: I-I'm sorry, I can't figure that out, but... it's heavy... and unusual... It really is nothing like the curses I'm familiar with... It's so different that I wasn't sure if it was a curse until now.

Link: ...How can you be so sure? Tharja didn't mention anything about this to me, so... I just wonder if what you're saying is accurate.

Noire: I'm not p-positive!... But I've been cursed a lot... by my real mother... The one from my time... I think I have a good grasp on how curses feel... And this world's Tharja, maybe she just didn't notice?

Link: Hmm... I'll have to ask around, then, and see if anyone else can find out more.

Noire: I-I hope it goes well, Link! I'm sorry I couldn't be more of a help... And I'm sorry that I've been avoiding you all this time. I didn't know what that ominous power was, and I was scared to approach you.

Link: Hey, don't worry about it... and don't apologize. It's thanks to you that I even know about this curse... If anything, I should be thanking you.

Noire: Oh, I... I don't know if I agree with that, but-

Link: Just focus on recovering, okay?... You took a few bad hits back there, y'know... You've got a large gash on your side and an arrow wound on your shoulder.

Noire: Oh, gosh... I bet I made everyone worry...

Link: What matters is that you're safe. Now, before I go, I've got something for you...

Noire: A bottle of red juice?... Oh, is it cherry-flavored? I could really use something sweet right now.

Link: Uh... Don't think too much about it... Just down it fast, and you'll feel much better.

Noire: O-Okay...

Link: …

Noire: *sputter* BLOOD AND THUNDER! How dare you offer me such a vile concoction! The taste causes my stomach to churn just as the waves crash upon the shore! You have DISGRACED me, and so I REVOLT! You will pay with your LIFE, mortal!

Link: Heh... W-Well, uh... gotta go! Get well soon, Noire!

Noire: Link, you really don't have to stay... The healers already patched me up, so I'll only be here a few hours.

Link: ...I know... It must get boring being stuck in here all the time, though... You're like a magnet for trouble... I feel bad that you have to deal with injuries and illnesses so often.

Noire: *sigh* It's nothing new. I suffer from anemia, so I'm often short of breath or lightheaded. Because of that, I don't exercise like I should. Physically, I'm just not up to standard... On top of that, I'm a sniper. The enemy usually goes after us archers first so that they can send their flyers in safely... And if all that wasn't cruel enough, I'm also a clumsy girl with bad luck who also has a bad habit of taking on more than she can handle. I'm just a series of accidents waiting to happen and a series of mistakes that already have happened...

Link: Despite that, you still give it your all, every single day... You're pretty incredible, Noire.

Noire: S-Stop it... You're only trying to cheer me up.

Link: ...See, this is why I stick around... Someone needs to chase those negative thoughts away for you.

Noire: Well... it is great having you around. Once I realized that it was just a curse you were carrying, I wasn't so scared of you. I found out that you're a really nice person.

Link: ...Thanks for saying so... And speaking of which, I found some new info about my mystery curse.

Noire: O-Oh? Please, share it with me!

Link: I talked with your mother again... Turns out, our hunch was correct. She didn't notice my curse because my "obnoxious light" always overwhelmed her... Once I told her about your discovery, though, she tried her best to focus, and she was able to identify it.

Noire: ...A-And what did she say?

Link: According to her, my curse is powerful... It's so strong, she doubts that there's a dark mage alive who could remove it... Even one as gifted as Henry in dispelling curses could never come close, she believes.

Noire: Oh my, that's terrible... You'll be stuck with it your whole life, probably.

Link: Even more interesting, Tharja also told me that this curse is "ancient"... She couldn't pinpoint exactly how long it's persisted, but "thousands of years" was her guess.

Noire: ...How is that possible, though?

Link: For me to carry a curse like this... I believe that higher powers may be involved.

Noire: Link, you're still pretty young, aren't you?

Link: ...I'm around twenty years old, I think.

Noire: Right... So how could this curse have lasted for thousands of years if you've only lived for twenty? Was it passed onto you from someone who carried it before?

Link: ...I thought the same thing... I asked Tharja, and she thinks the curse could be tied to my bloodline.

Noire: Your b-bloodline?!

Link: That's her theory, anyway... I even think it might be tied to my destiny as the goddess' chosen hero... Maybe Hylia herself is the one who set this curse upon my ancestors and I.

Noire: ...You think the goddess cursed your bloodline so that you'd be forced into saving the world?

Link: ...I think it's a possibility, but... who knows... I'm probably just over-analyzing things... The real answer is much more believable, I bet.

Noire: R-Right! We shouldn't let our imaginations get ahead of us.

Link: Ah... I got so caught up in speculation that I almost forgot... Here.

Noire: Uh oh... Is this another nasty potion of yours?

Link: Not this time... It's a homemade soup that I bought from a kind, old lady in the market... She said it's got healing properties and that it tastes fantastic as well... So, I picked some up for you... She even managed to fit two servings into this bottle, so you can have more for dinner.

Noire: W-Wow... Thank you, Link. You're too good to me, really.

Noire: I... I don't know, Link... I feel like you're expecting too much of me.

Link: Don't you agree that it's worth trying, though?... You're already an amazing archer, but having access to magic arrows? That'd be a valuable skill for you.

Noire: I'm no mage, though. Mother says that I have great potential for magic, but I've never used it in a fight before.

Link: And that's why we're only practicing... You can take as long as you need to figure it out, so don't feel pressured.

Noire: W-Well, okay... Why me, though? You never taught anyone else how to do this, right?

Link: I haven't, but I've never found someone that I thought could learn it... You can use a bow, and you have a natural gift for magic... Having Tharja as your mother, I bet you know a lot about sorcery just from watching her.

Noire: That's true...

Link: And I'm here with you. I'm not the best teacher, but... I'll help you for as long as it takes.

Noire: *sigh* Okay, Link... I'm ready. I'll give it my best shot.

Link: Thanks, Noire. You'll do great; I'm sure of it... All right, then. First, you need to get a solid grasp on your magic power.

Noire: ...Magic power?

Link: I didn't discover my own power until I was blessed by a great fairy, but I think it'll be easier for you...

- Scene Fade Out/In -

Noire: Okay... Arrow's nocked... Bow string's pulled... C'mon, Noire, focus...

Link: Tap into that power inside you... You've found it before, and you'll find it again.

Noire: …

Link: …

Noire: ...O-Oh my god! The arrow! It's on fire! Help, Link!

Link: N-Noire, it's fine! This is what we want to happen!

Noire: R-Right, right! Of course! I just... It's on fire, though!

Link: Take the shot... You might be shooting a flaming arrow, but the hard part's done. You just gotta make it count.

Noire: ...Okay...

Link: ...Direct hit, as usual.

Noire: Wow, I really did it! I made a fire arrow with only my magic!

Link: See? I knew you'd get it.

Noire: Gods, it took me so long, though... We've been out here for hours... I'm sorry you had to waste your whole day babysitting me...

Link: Hey, quit it with that. You're no burden... I want to teach you, and you're learning at a fine pace... Before long, you'll be shooting light arrows like Princess Zelda.

Noire: I know that I'm being a downer, but... I feel like you're being too nice to me, Link.

Link: ...How do you mean?

Noire: Why are you so insistent on teaching me this stuff? Maybe not anyone can learn how to make magic arrows, but I hardly see you train other soldiers like you're doing with me. You train alone most of the time... I just don't understand why I'm the one you've decided to help.

Link: ...Mmm... Well... I worry about you, I guess... and magic arrows could help you take on bulkier enemies... I thought you'd be able to defend yourself better.

Noire: So... the reason you hover around me... It's pity?

Link: No, it's because we're friends, Noire. I'm always going to worry about you, because I care about you... You get that, right?

Noire: Y-Yes... I do... I'm very lucky to have friends like you, Link.

Noire: *gasp* Oh, gods... It hurts, Link... I-I don't know if... if I can take this pain much longer.

Link: Don't talk like that. You're not dying here... I won't let it happen.

Noire: Wh-Where are we?... You already took me to safety?... How did you move so quickly?

Link: I'm gonna set you down here. Take deep breaths, and try to stay calm, okay?... It'll only take a minute for this fairy to work a miracle.

Noire: *gasp*... O-Okay...

Link: …C'mon...

Noire: …Am... Am I dreaming?... Or maybe I've passed onto the afterlife?

Link: I'm right here, Noire. You're not dead.

Noire: ...I'm confused... I-I was stabbed, wasn't I?... I can see my blood on you still... but... the wound's gone, as if it never happened.

Link: Fairy magic... Their healing properties put an elixir to shame... I've recovered from the brink of death several times thanks to them... They're literal lifesavers.

Noire: ...How can something so tiny be so powerful?

Link: I gave up trying to figure them out years ago... More importantly, are you still in any pain?

Noire: Hardly any... I just feel a little fatigued.

Link: *sigh* Thank the goddess... I've never had a scare like that before... I wasn't that panicked even when Ganon's Castle was crumbling beneath me.

Noire: Link... I can never repay you for this... Are you sure you're not some guardian angel sent from the heavens to watch over me?... I don't know what I did to deserve so much kindness from you.

Link: ...Your condition makes you more vulnerable than most, but you don't let it stop you... You continue to help the Shepherds to the best of your ability... This talk of "repayment" and "what you deserve"?... That's not what this is about.

Noire: ...Then what is it about?

Link: At first, I kept you safe because you were my ally, but now it's because you're very dear to me... We've formed a special bond that I'm scared to lose, so... I have no choice but to protect it with everything I have.

Noire: ...We have a s-special bond?... I'm very dear to you?... I-It almost sounds like you're...

Link: ...Sounds like... what?

Noire: GRRRAAAHHH! Do not toy with my emotions, BOY! Do you confess your love for me or not?! The longer you lead me on, the more dire your fate grows! Now SPEAK, lest I force the words out of your mouth by FORCE!

Link: Heh... Yeah, you got me... I think I've fallen for you, Noire.

Noire: ...W-Wait, you're not joking?!... But I-I wasn't serious! It's just that... you were making me nervous, and when I get nervous, I start yelling and blabbering about the first thing on my mind, and... and...

Link: Well, your first thought was right... But now I have to ask; do you feel anything for me?

Noire: C-C'mon, Link... That's a silly question, don't you think?... You're my guardian angel... It hurts to think of a life without you.

Link: Man... Going from near-death scares to confessions of love...You know how to keep things interesting, huh?

Noire: Y-Yeah... My existence has been a tumultuous one, I'm afraid... It almost feels like I've had a curse stuck on me my whole life... Until now, anyway.

Link: Oh, hey... I actually am cursed... I forgot about that.

Noire: That's right!... Wow, maybe we were meant for each other! Hee hee! We're, like, the cursed couple!

Link: ...I don't know if I like the sound of that...

A/N:

The idea of bringing up Demise's curse was left by a reviewer when I posted Tharja's chapter. I agreed with them that it would have made for a fun inclusion, so I saved it for Noire. Her being able to sense his bloodline's curse doesn't have any lore accurate reasoning. It's just a silly idea that lets me make the reference.

When I started writing this, I thought there were mentions of Noire having some affinity for magic in the game, but I couldn't find anything when I looked. I think I just got mixed up with Sorceress Noire being a popular class for her because of her in-game stats. Even so, I think it still makes decent sense.
