OST Recommended- Fox Rain by Lee Sun Hee
Amelina was quite taken aback when she heard that she had a visitor, since this kind of thing never occurred before. While there are only few people could pay a physical visit to the main estate, the one that knew about her are even more scarce -honestly almost to none. She had reconfirmed with the maid whether it was really her who was referred to, not some other Khun who lived here. But apparently, the 'guest' clearly stated she wanted to see her, Khun Amelina.
'A she?' Amelina's internally burning hand tightly grasped her other arm, she herself trying to regulate her slowly quickening and hot breath. Thankfully, she managed to pry off the maid who tried to carry her-no, Amelina don't think she's very much comfortable with a total stranger carrying her when she's much capable of walking by herself.
Nearing the location they were heading, Amelina thought the possibility of Kiseia, a cousin of Aguero visiting her since there was supposed to be a message sent to their residence yesterday, and Khun Kiseia might have seen the note or the maid that's supposed to send it, but surely Aguero wouldn't let anyone read it.
'But there's a possibility she intercepted the message. Maybe that's why Aguero couldn't come...'
Goodness, what Amelina didn't like was the headache that hindered her rational thinking and before she knew it, they already arrived in front of a door-probably one of the many guest rooms in the estate.
What she absolutely didn't expect was meeting a familiar-looking girl, the same older girl who referred to herself as an older sister to Aguero, the same one who hid a poisonous dagger behind her single question, and the one who managed to make Amelina so conscious of herself.
Maria.
'Why is she here?' Amelina glanced around, expecting for answers from those who should've understood that they should explain without needing the master to order them, but none of the maids around seemed to be concerned- no, they were wholly ignoring her presence.
At the moment, Amelina realized that she had no allies here.
No Eira, no Miru nor those other maids who would hesitantly wave to her times to times.
Maria who comfortably sat on the sofa looked so ethereal, so approachable with her gentle expression and long baby blue hair, completely contrasting Amelina's lone figure, her appearance resembling Eduan a lot. What she meant by a lot is literally what she said; her hair, her bangs and even more when she tied up her hair for training.
'Why did I have to notice this now?' The throbbing pain in her head becomes more intense and she had to squint to properly observe the situation as of now since no one seemed to want to be at her side now.
There were maids who were hurdling around Maria-probably were in the middle of a lively conversation considering their silence and interrupted actions of laughter- and there was the person who somehow remembered her and actually paid her a visit. Now that she thinks about it, how did Maria know she lived here?
"Ah, Ame! I've been waiting for you!"
Too much things were running in her head and Amelina couldn't find any words to reply the older girl's friendly greeting and sudden use of her nickname. When Amelina kept silent, the maids who had retreated further from Maria frowned and some even coughed in irritation. In the end, Amelina quietly took a seat in front of Maria, all tensed up due to her headache (and maybe even heartache).
"I'm glad I could see you! I really thought no one was allowed to go near the main estate forever since some years ago and-", even Maria's voice sounded so far and fleeting, her speech and words left uninterpreted in Amelina's blank mind.
'No Ame, I have to focus. That's right. Let's think about something else to freshen up first, I wanted to do something before this person came, but what was it…?'
"-but when I started to mention you, A.A gradually opened up to me!" the cheerful tone pulled Amelina back to reality, a sudden realization forming in the back of her head with the mention of the familiar alias.
"A-guero…?" Perhaps she was mistaken. Perhaps they met during those days Amelina had to deal with the sorrow of letting go of her parent-like figures. Perhaps it was just her desperation clawing at her conscious after days not being able to meet him. Perhaps it was just her headache acting up.
She didn't want to know about it.
"When did you… meet him?"
"Ah, I met up with him yesterday! We spent the whole day together talking about you, you know!" whether there was a hidden intention, it went unnoticed by Amelina. Maria's beaming smile didn't help one bit, and the younger Khun could hear her spirit slowly forming a crack like a glass, the translucent surface gradually tainted with ugly lines, threatening to break.
'I… no- I have to hold it- back in…' Amelina's trembling hand flew to clutch at her suffocating chest, a lump seeming to stuck at her throat and strangling her voice to speak out.
Aguero chose Maria.
He chose Maria and will leave her.
No, she knows that's not the case anymore.
He already left her.
As Khun Maria kept talking, a maid noticed how the tea they reluctantly served to the youngest girl emitted a faint glow of aqua and is that electric she saw swimming in the water? It was only when the cup in front of Amelina shattered did the maid screamed in and everyone realized what was happening.
An uncomfortable amount of shinsoo overflowing out from the small body with crackling electric resonated in the room, a clear sign of threat. No one dared to get close to the young Khun as their skin burned with each step nearer, a literal barrier of electricity coating Amelina's whole figure.
"Uh… ughh…." Amelina hugged herself tightly, confused on which should she hold back; her shinsoo first or her instinct to scream and cry out loud. She pushed away the table that limited her movement causing the things served on it crashed on the floor, backing away from the source of her pain as she held her head, clawing at her hair even.
That's right, in this condition, no one else except jeonsulsas could touch her, much less handling her.
In Amelina's distorted and watery vision, she could make out a familiar looking maid ushering Maria out and some of them shouting a familiar name she'd been long since thought about. How truly laughable, prioritizing an outsider more than their master. Perhaps they never saw her as one from the first moment they stepped into this estate.
'Now… I am truly alone.'
It felt hot.
It feels like her whole body was burning and there was a familiar crackling noise, a sign her shinsoo probably hasn't calmed down yet.
That's right. Now she had to be reminded that he chose her.
Aguero left her.
Now that her consciousness is coming back, Amelina didn't wanted to wake up nor open her eyes when she knows it won't change any reality. Why did she had to go through all this? Why did she even have to train all day long? Why do all the people she cherished keep leaving her? Why was she even born in the first place?
Why? Why? Why?
In the midst of her internal venting, Amelina felt a big, cold yet warm hand covering her forehead-rather, covering the upper part of her face. It's a familiar gesture she'd long since forgotten, but her body remembers it very well.
"Are you really a daughter of mine? If that's the case, then you shouldn't get sick this easily," his words are daunting and his voice is irritating as ever, but the restless mind of Amelina calmed down hearing his deep voice, one she heard right beside her. The memories from when she was still a toddler and all her childhood resurfaced, as if her mind was recounting those moments she spent with Khun Eduan.
'Ah… am I in his room?'
One difference she saw first-hand about Eduan was this particular room, where she used to hate so much.
The room that once reeks of women's perfumes now toned down to a comforting lavender's scent, one that used to be cold and gloomy now basked in the warm light of moonlight, watching over an identical pair of father and daughter.
It was as if they were the only residents on the Khun family's floor.
Eduan's rough hands slowly caressed over Amelina's sweating and burning forehead, keeping silent when he noticed his daughter had no intention to wake up anytime soon. While he expected it, it still stung.
He was greatly surprised and-yes, he admits it- worried (furious, even) when a lowly maid rushed over to him sputtering that his precious daughter fell sick, and what even more unexpected was when he found his daughter's unconscious body on the floor, with clearly unstable condition of shinsoo. It was as if she was impending on going berserk.
For a moment, he considered killing everyone within 1 kilometre radius of Amelina's sick form.
'Did the maids do something again?' Eduan's orbs glinted dangerously with blue highlights when it completely disappeared when his daughter mumbled something, in the midst of her heavy breathing.
"…you too… will leave… in the end…"
A drop of tear slid down to Amelina's side bangs, the drop soon combining with sweat. And Eduan wiped off the trail, pressing his lips on the girl's baby blue hair. "I won't. I won't leave you, ever."
The meaningful words never reached Amelina.
