Chapter 2: The boy who lost everything.
"..."
"..."
He looked at the boy, his eyes slowly widening as reality washed over his mind.
Kishibe wondered if this boy knew what death actually meant, he was 7 years old, he could see it, but at such a young age a boy should be playing ball with other boys his age, they shouldn't even consider what it meant to die.
Because telling them that dying meant that you would not wake up again and that you would be born in a kingdom where you would praise an almighty deity that so many people affirm exists, it was not a thought that a child of his age should know yet, it is not that he necessarily believed in it but he knew for sure that from an early age young people should be educated in the best way, and that implies teaching them to believe in a religion that they will follow until the day they die, in those cases, many children are born with fear because they do not want to die They want to stay in this world with their family and friends.
This child... should still have his parents.
Unfortunately that is no longer possible, and unfortunately this child in front of him, this child who little by little let out tears and his eyes turned red, knew what it meant to die.
He knew that his parents were dead, he knew that they would not be with him anymore.
He knew that now he was alone.
"Wh-what?" he asks and hot tears run down his cheek as he desperately tries to wipe them away with his small hands.
Kishibe just stared at him neutrally, not making a move to comfort him, he didn't need to, and it's not like he was good at it anyway.
The boy pointed his finger accusingly at Kishibe "Y-you're lying!" even when his scream denoted fury, he kept crying without being able to believe what this man was telling him, who was he to say that his parents were dead? He couldn't believe this stranger, mom always told him not to believe the strangers that abounded in the streets, and now this man was telling him nonsense that only made him furious.
He woke up in the car and then Kishibe sat him in the trunk of the car to tell him about his parents, hearing that his parents were dead is not something he would wish on anyone.
Kishibe just looked at him a little longer and sadly shook his head.
"That's the truth child, your parents are dead" normally the devil hunters leave the places where they worked for the emergency teams to deal with, there was no need to stay and talk to the civilians.
But now Kishibe had made an exception for this child, he felt very bad for leaving the child alone for too long until the paramedics found him. He just felt bad for leaving this kid alone.
The boy's face crinkled upon hearing those words but he slowly lowered his finger that was pointing at Kishibe.
The child began to cry inconsolably, what that man told him hurt a lot, his parents died, they really were dead. They would no longer be with them, mom would no longer be around to tell him stories at night and dad would no longer be around to play hide and seek with him.
It was a lot to think about.
"I want my parents!" He gave a piercing cry.
Kishibe winced at what he was witnessing now, he didn't know what to do, if he tried to give him a hug he would probably just make him cry more from being hugged by a stranger.
So much was the noise of crying that he did not hear when someone stopped next to him, although he doubted it was that since his senses were very acute and there was only one person who managed to overcome them with difficulty.
"Quanxi, what are you doing here" Kishibe asked turning around and getting up to get a better look at the beautiful woman next to him.
Quanxi only gave her silly companion a brief glance, she paid more attention to the child in front of her who was still crying.
"What's with this kid?" She asked without looking at Kishibe.
"He is the son of the couple that a devil murdered, I found him in the cupboard on the stairs."
Quanxi raised an eyebrow "I didn't know you had compassion for children, you surprise me"
Kishibe used all of his training skills to not show his surprise "Was that a compliment?" He asked quietly but inside he was very expectant of his answer.
"Take it however you want, I don't care" Kishibe smiled, that had been the best thing she had said to him since they met.
The silver haired woman continued "I guess you already told him about his parents, that explains why he is crying so much"
Kishibe nodded "Yes that's right, to be honest I don't know what to do. Help me, please?"
Quanxi sighed "Now do I have to fix your acts? Great" she said sarcastically.
She moved closer to the boy, she made herself smaller to keep up with him.
The little boy was still crying but he tried to take a look at the silver-haired woman with an eyepatch.
"Hey" Quanxi said when she had the boy's attention "What happened to you?"
The boy inhaled a few times to prevent his snot from coming out "Th-that man told me that my mom and dad are dead!"
"Really? That's very sad" Quanxi tried to make his voice softer, luckily he succeeded "But you know something? Your parents are in heaven now, they wouldn't want to see you crying like that" the boy's cries began to become less loud as he paid more attention to Quanxi "Your parents are in heaven, they will always be protecting you from above, they will always be there for you even if you don't see them"
"R-really?"
"Really, they didn't leave or abandon you, they loved you too much to do that. Your parents will always take care of you and be there for you when you need them" she smiled, a warm smile that she hoped would calm the boy even a little.
The boy wiped away his tears when he finally stopped crying, but instinctively he threw himself into Quanxi's arms trying to find comfort even if it was from a stranger.
Quanxi was surprised at first but she hugged him back too, wrapping her arms around him to protect him from non-existent danger.
She held him for several minutes, Kishibe looked at her surprised by what he had just seen, Quanxi had the ability to be warm and sweet with others but she had never shown it to him.
God, how lucky that child was to witness that scene in the first person.
Quanxi turned to look at Kishibe, the boy's breathing calming until he fell asleep. That was a good sign, she had completely calmed down but she didn't want to risk waking him up while she was talking, so she resorted to sign language to talk to Kishibe.
-Okay, useless I already did your job-
Kishibe made some movements with her hands.
-I apreciate it. Put him in the back seat, he needs to sleep-
Quanxi opened the car door and carefully placed the little boy's body on the back seats, it wasn't his bed but it was better than sleeping in that cupboard.
Kishibe began to walk a little to where the boy's family house was located, there he could see how the policemen tried to keep the snoops away and the paramedics took away the bodies of the parents.
He stopped to appreciate this scene a bit, they had taken a long time to arrive and now it was night, the stars were barely visible because of the clouds, even so the sky looked calm.
Quanxi also stopped next to him to look in his direction.
"You felt sorry for the child...why?" She asked, very curious why someone like him would save a child and carefully try to explain what had happened.
Kishibe shrugged "I felt like I was looking me in a mirror..."
"I see" that was enough explanation for Quanxi, now she could understand his motives.
"What will you do with him"
Kishibe seemed to think about it for a bit. "I'll personally take him to an orphanage tomorrow after breakfast. I think it's the least I can do for him."
He and Quanxi said nothing more for several minutes, each lost in their own business.
Then Kishibe looked questioningly at Quanxi "What are you doing here Quanxi? I thought you would be in Kyoto for your vacation"
"I was" Quanxi replied "But then I found out some great news that I couldn't wait to tell you"
"And... Those are?"
Quanxi looked at him seriously and Kishibe did the same.
"The Control Devil has been found"
Kishibe's eyes widened in clear surprise upon hearing that.
"Wh-what? Are you serious?"
Quanxi nodded "Her reincarnation was found in Chiba Prefecture in the city of Tateyama. It is said that she is a girl... Again"
"This is...a great discovery. Do you know what they will do with her?"
"If the government is the one who found her then they'll take care of her, they'll probably take care of her education too."
"Is...a little girl?"
Quanxi nodded "Yeah, she's probably no more than 7 years old, that's all I know of her"
Kishibe made a grin "That the government takes care of her gives me a bad feeling"
Quanxi had to agree "I also think the same, they are practically playing with fire when it comes to a devil like this"
"The Control Devil... Why don't they send her to an orphanage or some home with people? There she could make friends or have a family"
Quanxi sighed "I don't know, you ask them"
"Eh?"
"They are going to bring her here to Tokyo for her education" she said calmly "You can probably ask the manager on duty what they have planned for her."
"I'll see what I can find out. Thanks Quanxi, I'm sorry you canceled your vacation to come here again."
Quanxi shrugged "I had no choice, if I called you they would trace the call and we would be in serious trouble"
"All this Control devil and government together... I have a bad feeling" Kishibe said as he looked up at the sky, appreciating the clouds that little by little revealed more stars.
Quanxi closed her eyes as she relaxed "Me too, I just hope everything goes well"
Kishibe wanted that too, if something went wrong with all this then they would be doomed.
