Chapter 12: Children are a nuisance part 2

Life was full of setbacks, failures, inconsistencies, breakups, questions, but above all, cruelty. In life there were several things that a person had to go through to achieve his goals: whether it was being a high school student, a university student, a policeman, a lawyer, a hunter, even the babysitter of a demonic girl.

There was no exception for anyone in this world, everyone would suffer in the end, not in the same way but there will always be an excuse to shout to the 4 winds how miserable they feel. In addition to cruelty or miseries, there were also the challenges of having on your back the great weight of responsibility that many have entrusted to you.

That fills you with an anxiety that is difficult to describe in words, but the fear of failure always persisted, because if something went wrong then you would disappoint the people who placed their trust in you. In this case, the trust of others was not so important, it was more important the chaos that could be unleashed if something went wrong.

Unfortunately something had gone wrong.

For that reason Yuna was walking in circles in her office, biting her thumbnail in worry, the sound of her heels was the loudest thing in the room besides the small sound of the air conditioner, still for anyone who was there the sound of her heels would have been considered annoying. Makima might agree to that, though that was the least of her problems now.

Yuna didn't say anything but it seemed like there was a big debate on her mind and sometimes she would glance sideways at the yellow-eyed girl who was sitting on a chair looking at her curiously.

It had been found out, not just by one person but now by two, Kishibe and the boy who came with him. This shouldn't be happening, shouldn't have had given clear orders to Makima to hide, but then she appears in the elevator holding hands with a boy who never knew he entered.

Now someone else knew of Makima's existence, it might just be an insignificant child but he was still a witness, the actions they would have taken against him would not have been friendly at all. Although she was shocked that Makima hadn't done anything to him, she was also surprised to see that the boy was still alive despite the fact that he was on a par with one of the most dangerous demons on record.

Of course the boy probably didn't know the latter, which showed why he wasn't afraid of Makima. It was there that Yuna felt some calm inside, perhaps the boy just thought that Makima was an ordinary girl his age, of course all this also depended a lot on whatever the girl told him, that was what it worried her more.

"Can you explain to me what you did?" Yuna demanded a question as she stopped and looked at Makima.

She shamelessly shrugged, it was more of an excuse because she didn't know where to start "To be honest, I still don't believe if all that really happened" Makima could still feel the warmth of that hug she shared with Hiro, her arms encircling her and rubbing her back felt so comforting and made her want more. Maybe even a bit of her scent lingered on her sweater, she'd check later.

Yuna rubbed her temples, it was already very annoying to have to explain all of the above to Kishibe and now she had to deal with a child problem, although this went beyond giving a simple reprimand, the situation was much more serious and she did not understand how is that Makima at this point still couldn't see it.

No, she wasn't like that, she wouldn't have to be that careless, something got to her and caused her to let her guard down.

Could it have been that child?

"I gave you exact orders to hide, why didn't you obey?"

Makima looked at the ground thoughtfully "Now that I think about it, it felt like a boost. I was going to hide in the library but then I looked through the windows when the hunter got out of his car, then I saw him get out, Hiro"

Yuna mentally wrote down the boy's name, just in case she ever met him again and she would know what his name would be, although she doubted there would be a visit from Kishibe for a long time.

"When I saw him I felt fascinated, I had never seen a boy my age before, I had seen them in movies but seeing him in real life was fantastic" Makima spoke with a bit of joviality that she tried to hide, but Yuna could still notice it.

That made Yuna think a bit, she never considered the idea that Makima could be delighted with seeing another 10-year-old boy, for the simple reason that such a wish sounded weird. If she were to want to spent time together then she would be more realistic but she had already taught Makima that the relationships would get her nowhere.

Maybe for Makima it was like seeing an animal in its own natural habitat, she sees them on TV but seeing them in person was more amazing, just as it was interesting to read about demons but it was even more fantastic to see them in person. She hoped that she would at least come a little closer to what Makima felt.

"What did you talk about, or rather, what did you tell him?"

Makima looked at Yuna and smiled when she remembered how she spent time with Hiro "Nothing to worry about, you can trust me doctor" she sounded very confident, but that didn't manage to calm Yuna's insecurities.

Yuna couldn't really say for sure that she trusted the Control Devil, at the end of the day she was something to be feared, and she didn't help much with the track record she had. Murders, massacres, unimaginable destructions, conspiracies, excessive manipulation that included powerful people, and many things that were in the reports.

So there was a high chance that she was lying about not telling him something important, but on the other hand, Makima's mind hasn't developed enough to think like the Control Devil, so there was still time to mold her and teach her what NOT to do.

"Does he know you're a demon?" Yuna asked, she imagined how the boy would react if he knew that he was spent time with a demon from thousands of years ago, he would probably get scared and run away.

And from what she remembers, the boy was never afraid of Makima at any time, so it was likely that the boy did not know it. She knew very well that if that boy went up here he must have gone through the rest of the building, so he would know very well that everything that happened here was not normal.

Makima thought for a moment and realized that she didn't really tell Hiro that she wasn't human, she wasn't so sure why she didn't, maybe she had been so busy rejoicing in his presence that she just completely forgot, and that hug didn't help her thoughts flow properly either.

Or maybe... Maybe she didn't want him to know that she's a demon, how would he react? Makima had wondered for a few moments if Hiro's thoughts towards her would change if he knew that she was a demon. She was afraid that he would hate her or that he would reject her, or that he would be disgusted with her. Anything scared her and made her heart ache and she wanted to take it in her hand to soothe her pain.

But at the end of the day they were just thoughts that have a minimal amount of chance of happening, nothing is said and done but until the day she tells Hiro the truth, then she will have to live with that doubt and anxiety.

"No, I didn't tell him. He doesn't know anything about my past or what we're doing here, the only thing I did with him was invite him to read in the library" Makima said calmly but inside she was still debating about telling him the true to hiro

Yuna was finally able to feel a bit calm after hearing that, she really wasn't sure what to do with a child who knew this kind of information. She could easily have him assassinated but Kishibe would kill her first before she could give an order. She only hoped that they would not force her to use those methods.

Makima considered for a moment telling her about the hug the two of them shared, but she preferred to keep it to herself, in the end it was good to have a secret or two to herself.

"Do you think he'll come back here?" Makima asked in a hopeful and anxious tone.

Yuna frowned in annoyance, she was about to tell her that it was a bad idea to meet with that child again, because it would only distract her from becoming who she should be, she was going to tell her that she was forbidden to meet with that child or anyone else that distracts her again.

But then she thought about the weight her words would have and the risks they could cause. Makima every time she mentioned the boy, she sounded happy, as if that boy had a great influence on her. She had also mentioned that he was her friend, so she already had a friendship with him, that only made things more complicated.

If she told Makima that she was forbidden to speak to the boy again, then the chaos she would cause would be terrible, her emotions would run wild in a mixture of anger and sadness, but more anger. No one could imagine exactly how much disaster a demon could wreak from a simple childish tantrum, especially one as powerful as the one before him.

Makima was not yet at the stage where she could control her emotions, it would be more difficult for her to control them because he is a devil and it would be very difficult for him to keep the power away from her emotions. A simple anger would probably destroy half of the upper floor, Yuna couldn't risk something like that happening.

Makima had a lot to learn, she really still had to teach this girl a lot of things.

"I think that now depends more on Kishibe, he brought the boy with him so if he comes again it's likely that the boy will come with him. It's not like you made a good first impression on him though, from what I saw you seemed ready to attack him." Yuna could still remember that feeling of the murderous aura that Makima and Kishibe gave off, it was something extreme and exaggerated "Kishibe knows how dangerous you are and he probably doesn't want to see Hiro near you again"

"So I doubt that Kishibe will show up with the child again, it seemed that he cared for him so he wouldn't want him to get involved in more dangers. Therefore the chances of you seeing that child again are minimal" Yuna hoped that It was enough for Makima not to get angry and for her to understand that it was not a good idea to meet the boy again.

All she was doing was directing that anger at Kishibe, she didn't regret it at all.

Makima frowned, being completely disgusted by the few chances she had of seeing her friend. She didn't really care what that hunter thought, Hiro was her friend and no one could say otherwise, and if she had to go through that hunter to get to him then so be it.

It seemed like the cards weren't stacked in her favor from the way she acted, but that hunter also had intent to kill her and her first instinct was to try to defend herself against her.

She didn't like the idea of being separated from Hiro, and she would surely never get used to that feeling.

When it was already night and the moon illuminated the night sky, Makima was in her bed trying to fall asleep, however it was somewhat complicated compared to other nights where she only had to close her eyes, then with a simple blink the sun would already be on heaven.

No dreams, no nothing, Makima didn't dream of anything at all, Yuna couldn't explain this phenomenon since she didn't know if her demon characteristics had an influence in some way or if it was something else.

Although in this case what Makima couldn't achieve was sleep, the reason was because she still couldn't get all the events that happened today out of his mind. Just remembering them from her made a smile grow in her, also a warm sensation of her filled her chest and only made her want more.

So many thoughts and memories sailed through her and prevented her from concentrating on sleeping, a task that should be easy but Makima discovered that in the end it wasn't, if someone thought too much about something then they wouldn't be able to sleep.

She unconsciously had the sweater she wore today on her bed, and just as she imagined, a bit of Hiro's scent permeated her sweater. Makima thought that she would never get tired of the smell of him, it was so intoxicating and there was something about it that relaxed her. It also didn't help that the scent of her was someone special to her.

Makima slowly started to feel sleepy as she hugged the sweater, it was so comfortable and relaxing that she felt like she could finally sleep.

And so it was, Makima slowly closed her eyes, a satisfied smile gracing her features as she was taken by Morpheus's arms.

One of her last thoughts was 'Today was a good day'

That night Makima had her first dream of her.

Notes: I think this chapter officially ends the research center arc.

With that we make way for a new one, the Hunter Training arc.

And as you can already imagine, yes, here Hiro will start his training as well as we will see a bit of Makima's training.

This does not mean that the two of them will not meet again, of course they will have interactions again, you just have to be patient and see how some events unfold.

By the way if someone has a problem with the way Hiro behaves, because if he sees he is very scared with almost everything that he has to do with demons. But I tried to be as realistic as I could, I can't imagine a 10-year-old boy being brave in the face of dark and demonic beings, I mean my nephews are almost 10 years old and he's still afraid of crossing the street alone xd.

Not all the early have to be brave from the beginning, we have to make them brave and that's what I want to do with Hiro, when he finally reaches adolescence then there will be a big change between the 7-year-old boy who was afraid and the teenager who sees demons as normal.

It is only to be patient with the protagonist.

Finally, say if you want any Chainsaw Man character (besides the ones that have already appeared) to appear in this story, either for me to involve him in an event or something like that.

See you next.
