Chapter 14: Those they don't learn from history...

Disclaimer: FUCK YOU FUJIMOTO YOU RUINED MY LORE OF MAKIMA'S EYES.

0O0O

Kishibe's eyes started to open but his subconscious begged him to keep them closed longer, he would have obeyed but the surface his face was currently resting on was very uncomfortable.

He disinterestedly woke up and removed his face from the table trying to get a clear view of his surroundings, realizing quickly and with some obviousness that he was still in the room, but Quanxi was nowhere to be seen. He remembered that they had been discussing what happened at the research center, then he probably passed out after saying something.

He wasn't sure if he really passed out as his consciousness seemed to shut down every time a blackout from alcoholism approached, so he wasn't sure if he drank too much or if he tried to ask Quanxi on a date and ended up knocked out.

He ruled out the latter since he didn't feel any kind of burning sensation on his face and it seemed that there was no scar besides the one he already had on his cheek. To all this, he was curious where his cold companion had gone.

The chair made an audible squeal as he stood up, he stretched his muscles as his eyes looked at the table with a bottle of alcohol, it was dirty with cigarette butts scattered all over the table.

Through the windows he could see how the sun was hiding between the buildings until it disappeared and welcomed the night. How long had he been asleep? Feeling disconcerted, he walked a few meters until he reached the sofa room, it was there when he realized that there were two individuals sitting in his room.

And they were eating hamburgers.

Hiro and Quanxi were happily watching TV and at the same time enjoying a hamburger when they realized that Kishibe had woken up.

It was a scenario that Kishibe never imagined possible, Quanxi being in his apartment for over an hour? That only happened in his dreams.

Hiro looked at Kishibe for a few moments before swallowing the food he had in his mouth "Hello, what are you doing? I'm here eating a hamburger and you're not because you're a drunk" his expression was stoic as he said all this without a hint of regret and while he ate his hamburger again, his cold eyes did not stop seeing Kishibe.

Kishibe rolled his eyes at Hiro's attempt to make fun of him, it seemed that he was still angry with everything that happened "You'll understand when you're my age" he looked at Quanxi who just smiled amused.

"Yes, I told him to tell you that" Quanxi took a sip of his drink as he settled further into the sofa.

"How long was I asleep?" he asked as he sat on the other side of the couch, he rubbed his head in an attempt to soothe the headache that always came after too many drinks.

"A few hours, that's really not important right now. Here" Quanxi passed an envelope to Kishibe who had no idea where she got it from.

"What is this?" Kishibe inspected the envelope, it didn't seem like anything out of the ordinary, what mattered must be the content.

"Open it and see, just know that I've done a few things while you've been asleep, I went out and made some calls, and I brought Hiro a burger by the way, because the guy he lives with is a drunken idiot who doesn't bother to cook" Quanxi knew exactly what was in that envelope but wanted Kishibe to open it first and give his opinion on it.

Although for Quanxi in the end it didn't matter what Kishibe thought, whether he refuses to accept this fact or accepts it, she will implement it anyway. But if Kishibe would let her explain then everything would be easier and less complicated.

Kishibe carefully opened the envelope, inside was a letter, before even reading it he gave the boy a look who was looking at both adults curiously.

When Hiro felt Kishibe's gaze, he just shrugged his shoulders "Don't look at me, I just woke up too" in fact, he was also very curious about what that letter could contain.

Without further ado, Kishibe opened the letter completely, his heart skipped a beat when he distinguished the well-known Japanese government seal, from there it was easy to guess the content of the letter. Quanxi watched Kishibe read for another minute before stopping and looking up from his to see her with a cold expression.

"You got to be kidding..."

The hunter tossed the letter onto the small table between the sofas, Hiro curiously took the letter as the adults in the room just stared at each other, one with what appeared to be disinterest, and the other with a stare that could kill. .

Hiro read the letter, noting the Japanese government seal with interest, but it was the contents of the letter that captivated him.

"We hereby inform Japan's Public Security Devil Hunter, Quanxi..."

Hiro rolled his eyes, didn't the hunters have more names, what was their problem? Putting that aside, he continued reading.

"...that we have approved the entry of the youngster known as Hiro Takahashi to join the training of future generations of Public Safety Devil Hunters..."

Hiro's eyes almost bulged out of their sockets, is this really Was it really happening or was it just an illusion? He kept reading just to make sure.

"...We have also approved your request about wanting to train the boy personally under your own charge or other people of your choice. Under these wishes you will still have to work with the Japanese government rules that all future hunters they are to be trained at one of the many research centers in the country, with that being said you are instructed to take this letter to the nearest training center so that they can provide you with all the necessary equipment for expect excellent results within the next 10 years from this day, don't let us down"

Government of Japan, September 19, 1980.

Hiro felt his brain turn off for a few seconds, to then come back together and realize the reality he was living. He had made it, this was a big step towards becoming a future devil hunter, he was accepted by the Japanese government to allow him to be among their forces.

It was so unreal now that he thought about it, it felt like a great achievement, perhaps because for him there was always a great goal and seeing that now he has the opportunity to change many things made him very happy.

"This is incredible!" Hiro cheered standing on the couch, Kishibe and Quanxi looked at him "I was accepted to be a future hunter! B-but I don't understand, what did you do to make this happen Auntie Quanxi?"

Quanxi smiled, being very aware of the death glare Kishibe was giving her, but it only made her smile worse.

"Well, when you gain a certain reputation in this job you get to gain a lot of favors, and since I have some contacts with the Japanese government I went to the trouble of submitting a request to be approved for entry into the future hunter forces, every day there are thousands and thousands of young people applying to the agencies but very few are accepted. So, unless you have contacts or family within the hunting corps... It's very difficult to get in. I basically used a favor that was owed to me to pull some strings in the agencies and that they will accept you without having to go through an extreme selection process that ... Let's face it, you probably would not have gone through"

"Huh, why do you say that?"

"Hiro, the hunter selection process is not the same as a university choosing the students with the best grades, in this case the government and agencies take into account your skills that you currently have to see if they can be useful in the future, they will ask you the reason why you want to be a hunter, also if you have the necessary physical condition to last in the long term, add to that that they will also review your past, that way they can know a lot about you and the current state of your your mind to see if you have what it takes to kill devils left and right"

Quanxi drank some of her drink before continuing, "Even if you get accepted the first time, you would have to go through the second round of selection, which involves a match against devils."

Hiro was surprised by everything he was hearing "You mean they force them to fight devils without any training"

Quanxi nodded "Yes, very few of them make it past the first round, now imagine how many are left in the second, the good thing about that is that they face very low rank devils, but for a person without training... You can already imagine how difficult it can be"

"How many make it past that part?"

"Hmm, let's say 30 people make it through the first selection round, those 30 are then forced to fight individually with a low-ranked devil. Later, of those 30 people only 12 survive, and even if they did survive, some would still be left with psychological problems, that is something that the government does not need in its forces so they would be immediately discarded. In the end there would only be 8 people who would be chosen for their training in one of the many training centers in the country, but nothing assures them that after training for years, they managed to survive the first day. No one knows which devil you might meet tomorrow."

Hiro was feeling his stomach twist in disgust, whenever he heard this kind of disturbing stuff it made his stomach churn.

"But isn't that a little unfair?" Hiro reasoned "Putting untrained people to fight demons greatly reduces the chances of having more hunters"

Quanxi sighed, she didn't expect Hiro to understand it at first, but here she was to explain it "No, you're wrong, on the contrary, that helps a lot to select the best and those who have enormous potential to be hunters. Because if they could win to an untrained demon, now imagine the things they would do with the right tools and training... They would be exceptional hunters that the government would happily accept into their forces."

"But-" Hiro wanted to refute, but Quanxi cut him off.

"Take the example I gave you again, those 8 people in the future could easily kill a high-ranking devil like nothing. You may see it as unfair and cruel, but that's why many of the hunters who operate here are strong enough to take on the world's most feared devils."

(A/N: Yeah sure, tell that to Reze, she practically killed a lot of hunters)

(The difference is that the hybrids are already at an inhuman level, literally, but what Quanxi explains is from a point where hybrids that have a force that can destroy even buildings are not taken into account, because as you already saw in the manga, only a hybrid can beat a hybrid. Just keep that in mind)

Hiro sat with a beanbag on the chair reflecting on everything Quanxi told him, to a certain extent she was right. It seemed that it was not worth accepting so many hunters if in the end they would die in a short period of time, it seemed that what the government valued most was long-term work with a life full of victories by they hunters.

Hiro was committed to making it.

Deep down a part of him felt guilty for accepting this kind of favor he was being given, it felt unfair that he had to go through the easy way when there were other people dying for a position as a hunter. Buuuuuuut, another part of him told him that in the end it didn't matter and that he should just enjoy it, after all, the important thing was to get to save lives as a hunter, regardless of the means.

So fuck equality!

'Wow, what's happening to me? Maybe all this is already affecting me more than I thought...' Hiro thought as he held the letter in his lap.

"I would have preferred that you ask my opinion on this before doing it yourself" Kishibe ran a hand over his face tiredly, waking up in the afternoon and hearing this kind of news did nothing good for his will to live.

Quanxi shrugged. "You weren't planning on doing it this week anyway?"

"Well...Yes actually I did but I didn't want it to be so sudden" Kishibe hoped to teach Hiro a thing or two before setting him straight down the path of a devil hunter. Basic theory about what demons and hunters alike did, and unlike Quanxi he wouldn't have used his influence to get Hiro a direct position in the young hunters, he would have put him through the exams like any normal person, so maybe he would reconsider the idea of being a hunter.

Quanxi was right about one thing, under normal circumstances Hiro would not have made it through the second round of selection no matter how prepared he was. He would have died for sure, but Kishibe was no fool.

Reading people's true intentions was easy, especially when they're people you've known for a while. Kishibe knew that as much as Quanxi was fond of Hiro, she would have also thought of sending him to the normal exams first, that way everyone could clearly see how hard this profession was, which would be a good experience to start as a hunter.

Kishibe came to the conclusion that, for some reason unknown to him, Quanxi wanted Hiro to become a hunter as quickly as possible.

The question here was... why?

He would talk about it with her later, for now it would be better to just watch blankly as Hiro stared at the letter with stars in her eyes.

Several hours later... Cross that out, it's only really been an hour.

"Whew, those burgers filled me up. I don't think I'll last for dinner" Hiro lay down on the couch with a full stomach and feeling drowsy after eating. On the other side of the chair was Kishibe eating his own hamburger, Quanxi was compassionate and bought one for him.

Hiro just wanted to end this eventful day and sleep to start a new weekend.

Unfortunately Quanxi still had something to say "By the way, before you go to sleep, I must tell you that tomorrow we will take you to the research center so that you can officially start your training"

Hiro's eyes widened so fast that the speed of light could be dwarfed, surprise causing him to fall off the couch and his face crashing to the floor. Any normal person would have winced because that punch sounded loud. Kishibe just kept munching on his burger as he eyed Quanxi with interest, making the flame of conspiracy grow bigger and bigger for what she planned to do.

It could be three things, something good, something bad, or both. Knowing Quanxi it would probably be something that would fucked and benefit them, in this case he had a feeling that the only one who would end fucked would be him. Maybe it was paranoia or an instinct that was born from hanging out with the woman with an eyepatch.

"WHAT, WE'RE SERIOUSLY COME BACK TOMORROW!?" Hiro asked and yelled at the same time, that was definitely unexpected news at all. He didn't know what Quanxi's final opinion was about going back to the Research Center, but apparently it was the opposite of what Kishibe wanted

The hunter woman was already at the door putting on her jacket "Seriously, where else did you think we would go to start your training? That Research Center is the closest we have and you already visited it once so you can get used to that place now, You even already have a friend who is eagerly awaiting another visit from you" Quanxi allowed himself to smile mockingly at the boy who consequently blushed with embarrassment, apparently he did not expect him to bring up this subject that deep down he found embarrassing. Kishibe just rolled his eyes.

"Therefore tomorrow after breakfast we will go to those boring offices and present this letter to the head director to accept your training. Don't be late, I will be waiting for you outside, after all I was the one who applied and I must be the one to face when they accept you" he shot a look at Kishibe "Have this inept take you tomorrow, it would be good if he introduces you everything you are going to do from now on. See you" with a last greeting, Quanxi left the apartment.

Hiro and Kishibe fell silent, each processing Quanxi's words. Kishibe was thinking of two things.

One: The original idea was that he would be directly in charge of Hiro's paperwork for the day he had to train him, since he was a minor it was logical that he would have the consent of an adult in charge, Kishibe was going to be the person who gave the expensive for him but in the end Quanxi beat him to it, he was grateful, so he wouldn't have to do all that boring paperwork.

Two: Quanxi didn't even give him time to talk about his true intentions and he was pretty sure that her hasty dismissal was because she didn't want to talk about it right now. Shit, well I'd find out tomorrow.

Hiro for his part could only think about how exciting tomorrow was going to be, he would officially start his training, he would probably have Kishibe and Quanxi by his side to teach him the different hunter techniques; perhaps even, in the somewhat distant future, he would have his own devil.

There was also the fact that he could see Makima again, the idea excited him and made him nervous.

"You wash the dishes" Hiro pointed a finger at Kishibe "I have to go to sleep to wake up early" then, almost as fast as a bullet, Hiro went to his room to sleep.

In the end, Kishibe was the only one left in the room, reflecting on what just happened. There were things on his mind that he couldn't wait to clarify, what was Quanxi's need to want to go against his will? She also knew how dangerous the control devil is and how cunningly dangerous it can be, just like Yuna, he wouldn't be surprised if Makima inherits some of that woman's personality.

There was also the fact that Hiro was going to be constantly monitored by Yuna, even though the tests between children were put aside many years ago to focus on other jobs, Kishibe couldn't let his guard down with that witch; he could see a future where Yuna would take an interest in Hiro and want to do some crazy experiments with him.

Despite knowing all this, Quanxi still wanted to take Hiro to that place, what was special there? Why risk the child's life?

Whatever it is, it would all be resolved tomorrow.

10:00 PM

"Tsk... Paperwork... I hate paperwork" Yuna grumbled in annoyance as she flipped a sheet of a document to reveal other research notes, she had to check and pass them to see if they had what it took to be considered research. demonic.

Every day different reports and documents are sent with different demology topics written on them, the authors are none other than researchers like her but with a much lower rank because they are apprentices or recent graduates. The reports are sent to her for approval and thus register them in the permanent demology files that remain as evidence of said investigation, eventually these investigations are transferred to books that talk about the same subject. The reason for sending these investigations is partly to help to know more about devils or about the history and components of a devil, it is achieved by many researchers and scholars around the world.

On the other hand, if the research report is about a sufficiently groundbreaking finding and deals with something that could help to understand the demons more, then the author of the report would get a promotion among the researchers.

That was how Yuna got the title of director from her. She of course didn't get it directly but her own report gave her a promotion as chief scientist, the Japanese government put her in charge of creating hunters through various experiments that were very different from conventional or traditional ones. Children were used, Yuna believed, and still believes, that the best way to create perfect hunters was to train them since they were children.

A child's mind is so perfectly moldable that it is easy to work with them, especially when you need to experiment if you want to get better results. Yuna's experiments on the children helped create the hunters who are the pride of Japan today.

A part of Yuna may deny it, but in the end the biggest success they had among the children was Kishibe, that drunk man probably died of old age before a devil killed him. But all of that was thanks to her and her research, Kishibe never thanked her.

Quanxi was also an exceptional case, but her abilities were still overshadowed by Kishibe, even though she spent more time with her, Kishibe had always shown more ability, but Yuna would not recognize it until many years later. There was something in the young Kishibe that she saw, at the time he was only 16 years old but there was a fire in his eyes that said that he would be willing to do anything to want to kill devils. Perhaps it was because of that determination that he managed to survive the different tests she put him through.

Kishibe also underwent training from his as much as he could, because she had focused more on Quanxi and other children. To her Kishibe were a weak link that wouldn't last long in training or officially being a hunter.

She was wrong, if only she had paid more attention to that determination... She would have used it to better shape the boy and create a better human being who wouldn't complain about her methods. It might be a long time before she saw that kind of determination in a child again.

"Let's see..." Yuna muttered words as she read a document "Vegetables are capable of causing fear, consequently a devil... There are hints of the war devil in the world, blah blah blah"

"Ugh, this is so boring, why did I accept this position?" Being promoted had its downsides, but she was sure that the previous director went through the same thing when she sent her reports.

"Hm, and this?" Yuna noticed that among the documents was a letter, the seal of the Japanese government was recognizable on it. She could easily slip through the pile of garbage, luckily she detected it in time.

Yuna opened the letter to read its contents.

'Doctor Yuna Nishimura, on behalf of the Japanese government we sent a notice to you to inform you that starting tomorrow you must send the annual and updated report on the abilities and current status of Subject M-6.1.6, we expect the update at the latest Monday. As has been done for the past three years, one of our trusted hunters will come to collect the report.

Government of Japan.

"Aaagh dammit, really now? Couldn't it be after giving me a break?" Yuna cursed as she crushed the letter and tossed it into the trash can.

The annual report was a confidential report that Yuna had to fill out with all the information and the status of Makima, as well as her changes that she has undergone in the year, the change or discovery of her abilities and if it is still necessary to continue with the investigations. ... Or if it is a hopeless case and it would be necessary to kill her.

Luckily they hadn't gotten to that last part, so far the girl had managed to exceed her expectations, of course the government would still be asking her for all the details of the investigation and they wouldn't be left without any details. They hoped that Makima would eventually serve the hunter corps and raise the level of security in Japan.

They also had to somehow overcome the United States and the Soviet Union.

Among the people who could read the document was the Japanese prime minister, who was the one who gave the go-ahead to continue with the project.

Yuna sighed knowing that tomorrow would be a busy day, she hadn't started the report because they don't give her a specific date, she only knows that it comes at the end of the year between September and December. To make the report more detailed, you have to test Makima's abilities in the monitoring centers, so you would have to take her to do some tests tomorrow morning, for some physical tests it would be better to take her to the training grounds, you could occupy the which was at the beginning of the post.

Tomorrow she would have to get up early on Saturday, God had definitely abandoned her.

Notes: sup bitches, it's me, abusamadres, making my return number 202629, well, it's good to have them back.

First I want to say something *inhales*

FUCK YOU TATSUKI FUJIMOTO, apparently the spiral eyes that Makima has are not exclusive to her, the war devil also possesses them and consequently any devil that can possess a human or that can reincarnate in one.

or maybe just the horsemen of the apocalypse like domination, war, famine and death.

What rubbish xd, I thought that Makima, being a manipulative demon, would have those spiral eyes for resembling hypnosis wheels, which would make her demon name make more sense.

But Fujimoto added it to the war devil and that theory was screwed up there.

It was a detail that I wanted to use but well, I can't do anything about it anymore :( Was it so difficult to make her another type of eyes?

It sounds very stupid I know but I wanted to get it out.

Another thing, my absence is due to the fact that I have been very busy with classes and farming protogems in genshin impact. There was no other bro, that Diluc and that Zhongli were not achieved alone, just like Diluc's skin.

And I was thinking of going for Eula but apparently it won't come in 3.1 xd, no way, if it doesn't come before Raiden then I'll have to save everything for the electro archon.

I want fucking power, at least I don't have to worry about the damage anymore thanks to Zhongli.

Damn in all this that I was missing, many things happened.

The second part of Chainsaw has already been released.

There is already a trailer and date for the anime.

Genshin impact version 2.8 came and went xd.

She Hulk cringes.

Queen Elizabeth ll died.

Wow, what months. But I'm back and about to graduate so I'll have vacations and time to write.

see you and bye
