Naruto was standing atop the balcony in the room the preliminaries were being held. Team 7 had safely managed to reach the tower in time with both scrolls with the help of Kabuto. After they entered, they were immediately taken to another room where the proctors explained how and why the preliminaries were being held. While Sakura and Ino are fighting for their match, Naruto has his HUD pulled up and is staring contemplatively at what he wants to put his newer points into.
'Hmmm, what should I put my points into?' Naruto had his hand covering his mouth and used his index finger to tap on his cheek contemplatively. Naruto turned around to look for Kakashi, wanting to ask his opinion on something "Hey, Kakashi-sensei."
"Hmm? Yes, Naruto?"
"Do you know how video games have stats you can increase?"
Kakashi tilted his head back, giving serious thought to what Naruto asked. "Hmm, I have played them once or twice. I'd say the game was pretty fun, but a bit too short. I managed to finish the game in one sitting."
"Wait, what? Kakashi-sensei, are you a gamer?"
"I wouldn't say so, I don't play games that often since they're usually too easy for me."
Naruto was left in awe at Kakashi's confession but he managed to remember what he wanted to ask. "Anyways, how do you spend your points in the game? Do you put them all into strength or health?"
"Well, I split them throughout all of the attributes. I usually put quite a bit into strength, health, speed-"
"How about luck and intelligence?"
Kakashi looked at Naruto for a second before he gave his question some thought. "Hmm, what do intelligence and luck affect?"
"Uhh, lemme try to remember what intelligence and luck affect."

"Hmm, I would put a fair amount of points into intelligence while a fair amount fewer points into luck."
"Why?"
"Well because I just don't trust luck, I'd rather be in complete control of every scenario I'm in rather than rely on luck to tip the odds in my favor."
"Ah, ok. That's pretty smart." Naruto said as he tapped his chin with scrunched his face up in thought before he put a couple of points directly into intelligence.
"Although, I like to keep a few spare points around for in an emergency. For example, let's say that your opponent is too fast or too strong, you have a couple of spare points in your back pocket to even the playing field."
Naruto jerked his finger away from the hud, leaving behind two spare points. He stared at the screen before deciding that two spare points is still better than none. "Okay, good call sensei. I'll remember that next time I'm playing the game."
"No problem," Kakashi replied as he watched the fight between the two girls.
As the two girls knocked each other out, Naruto was zoning out as Tenten and Temari made their way down. 'So I'll just spread out the points so that each stat has a good amount of points.' Naruto suddenly felt so excited at the prospect of being so strong. He smiled ear to ear for a couple of seconds before he focused back on the fighting down in the arena below. He saw Tenten unsealing every weapon she had and throwing them all Temari's way. He briefly wondered how the girl would react, and he was surprised by what he saw. The sandy blonde opened up her fan and swung it toward the projectile's way. Naruto saw the fan create torrents of wind that countered the projectiles, making them scatter across the floor.
'Woah.'
Temari noticed the bun-haired girl was now out of weapons and swung her fan, creating a cyclone that trapped Tenten and propelled her in the air. The jutsu sent out huge gusts of wind capable of cutting the target apart. She finished off the match quickly, as the cyclone dispersed and Tenten began to fall. Temari made it a point to have Tenten land on her closed fan, knocking Tenten unconscious. Even after she was declared the winner of the match, she threw Tenten off of her fan in an attempt to have her land on top of her weapons on the ground. However, Rock Lee jumped in to save Tenten before she hit the ground.
"What is wrong with you? She may have lost but that is no way to treat an opponent who tried her best!"
"Oh beat it! And take that sack of garbage with you." Lee growled out of anger and attempted to kick Temari, although she easily blocked him with her fan.
"Lee, stop it!"
Naruto watched what was happening while Kakashi looked at him. He raised an eyebrow and looked the boy up and down. The way he worded his questions on top of the sudden timing of the question, Kakashi felt in his gut that there was something up. There was a reason for Naruto's question. He quickly noticed that Naruto seemed to fill his clothes a little more than he had remembered. 'While I know I have an over-imaginative mind, I think it's gone too far. What am I even going to say?'
"Hey Naruto, are you saying you can level up like in a video game?"
'Yeah right, I'd never ask such a thing. Well, it's probably nothing so I'll just drop it.'
"Whoa! How'd you know Kakashi-sensei!" Naruto whispered with stars in his eyes. He was so amazed and blown away at how good Kakashi was at figuring things out.
"...what?"
"How'd you know that I was talking about right now? Ohh! A ninja must always see through deception! Good one sensei!" Naruto cheekily giggled.
"...of course. Now, ahem, let's get back to what you confirmed. You can level up like in a video game?"
"Yeah, it started right after I bought a game back on our last mission and since then I've been getting stronger and better!" Naruto whispered excitedly to his sensei. "Watch."
Kakashi watched Naruto create a shadow clone without any hand sign as well as having the clone transform by using his sexy jutsu. Kakashi quickly pinched his nose and popped the clone before squatting down and putting his free hand around Naruto. "While I'm glad you've come a long way, I don't want you using that jutsu out in the open. Especially if there are dangerous women around."
"Oh right, sorry sensei!" Naruto gave Kakashi his cheeky yet embarrassed grin.
Kakashi waved off his apology as an innocent act and instead decided to focus on Naruto's suddenly new ability. "Well, going off my last comment about games, how many spare points do you have?"
"I have 2 remaining."
"Hmm, can you describe to me what it looks like?" Naruto quickly pulled up the hud and stare at it for a few moments before he faced Kakashi and shook his head. "Alright, we'll have to teach you how to perform genjutsu so you can show me how it looks then."
"Alright! You're the best sensei!" Naruto said while he smiled so wide he had to close his eyes.
Kakashi gave Naruto an eye smile before he looked back at the ground and saw Shikamaru walking back toward the stairs of the balcony. 'Oh, so Shikamaru's fight happened while me and Naruto were talking huh? I wonder who's next?' Naruto cheekily giggled a last time before he looked out to the arena floor, spotting no one. "Look alive Naruto. You're next."
Naruto turned to see the screen displaying the contestants' names and read his and Kiba's name. "Thanks, sensei. Well, I'll see you after I win this fight!" He lept over the railing while Kakashi chuckled at the boy's optimistic and childlike nature.
When the two boys arrived at the arena floor, Kiba couldn't help but let out a snarky remark. "You said you're going to win this fight? Ha! I'll mop the floor with your butt!"
"Oh really now?" Naruto sarcastically repeated before he laughed. "Hey, you want to go with me to buy my own gaming console after I win this match?"
Kiba was the one to laugh now after hearing Naruto's question. "Sure, but don't think it'll be that easy."
"We'll see!"
"Ready? The seventh match of these preliminaries, Naruto Uzumaki versus Kiba Inuzuka, begin!" Hayate yelled before he jumped away, giving the two contestants enough space.
"Sit this one out Akamaru, I won't even need your help." The brunette told his canine companion. The boy crouched and made the tiger hand sign. 'Ninja Art of Beast Mimicry: All-Fours Jutsu.' Naruto's eyes widened in alarm as Kiba's body took on a more animalistic look. The boy was now on all fours; his finger, and toenails growing until it took looked like a wolf's claws. "Here I come!"
Naruto's muscles tensed right before Kiba suddenly burst into motion. The Inuzuka elbowed the blonde in the chest, sending him flying a couple of feet before he slammed onto the floor. The brunette then straightened up and let out a smug grunt.
"Sorry Kakashi, but your boy didn't stand a chance against Kiba."
Kakashi turned to see that Kurenai was the one who spoke. "Hmm, we'll have to see about that." Kakashi raised his eyebrows in surprise as he saw Sakura begin to stir. "Oh Sakura, you're finally awake. Naruto's currently down there fighting."
"What?" She asked softly, still trying to shake off the cobwebs of drowsiness. She stood and held onto the railing in front of her before she looked down and saw Naruto sprawled out on the floor.
"Jeez, I knew the match would've been quick but not this quick." Sakura heard Ino whisper.
"Come on Naruto, get up." The pinkette groggily drawled out.
Naruto chuckled before he began to stand up. "You know, I knew I had gotten stronger but come on, I barely felt that!"
Kiba growled before he charged at him again, knocking the yellow-blonde on the floor again and again before Naruto dodged the next one. 'He's using a lot of chakra every time he charges at me, but not enough to where I can use it to outlast him.' Naruto backed up until he was close to the wall and managed to trick Kiba into smashing face-first into it. After that, the Uzumaki tensed to pounce on the boy's vulnerable state but had to leap back when Akamaru rushed in and tried to bite Naruto.
"Woah! Hey ref! Isn't this illegal?!"
"He is within the rules. Like Shino with his insects, Akamaru is a part of him." Hayate corrected.
"Err, fine. I'll still win in the end anyways."
Kiba and Akamaru transform and begin to overwhelm Naruto. He dodged easily at first, but his stamina quickly dwindled from all the sudden movements he was making and with not enough time to catch his breath.

'Damn!' I need to catch my breath soon! Or else-!'
Naruto's train of thought was interrupted by Kiba suddenly managing to hit the blonde with his jutsu. Naruto fell to the floor and clutched his left calf, which the Inuzuka managed to hit. 'Now!' Kiba thought as he and Akamaru both aimed to strike the now immobilized kid.
"Naruto, look out!" Sakura yelled from the balcony.
Naruto quickly turned around before he let a snarl paint his face. "Fine! Multi Shadow Clone Jutsu!" Dozens upon dozens of Naruto clones burst into existence, managing to take the full brunt of Kiba and Akamaru's attack. With the lost momentum, Kiba and Akamaru were now left to defend themselves with only their claws and teeth. Naruto noticed that although he stopped their stronger jutsu, the duo was still cutting through his clones. He growled and pulled out a handful of kunai before making a dozen more clones, all holding their own projectiles. With spare clones up close and distracting the duo, the original and new clones all threw their projectiles, cutting foe and friendly clones alike.
"Hey! Whose team are you guys on?!"
"Mine you idiot!" The original yelled before he ran up and gave one of the Kiba's a haymaker punch. The Inuzuka was sent to the floor unconscious before a sudden cloud of smoke appeared. After it dissipated, it revealed a now-sleeping Akamaru. "Ah, man! I wasn't aiming for the dog! Sorry, Akamaru." The blonde whispered out the last part to the asleep canine.
Kiba looked over and saw his companion knocked out on the floor. "Akamaru!" He yelled as he managed to overpower the clones closest to him before gunning it toward the Naruto closest to him.
The original takes a step back but one of the clones throws a kunai into Kiba's leg. The Inuzuka slams into the ground hard because of his momentum. The clones began to dogpile him, rendering Kiba helpless as he struggled in vain.
"Kiba Inuzuka is unable to continue. This match goes to Naruto Uzumaki." Hayate announced loudly.
While everyone was reacting to Naruto's win and the improvements he had made within such a short amount of time, the blonde walks back up to the balcony with a cheeky grin on his face. With him drawing closer Hinata suddenly speaks up, causing Naruto to stop out of curiosity. "Hmm? Yeah, Hinata?" The shy girl held out something. "Err, what is it?"
"It's an ointment Naruto, just take it." Kurenai supplied.
"Oh okay. Thanks, Hinata that was, err, real kind of you." He said a bit awkwardly. He was unused to sudden acts of kindness so suddenly being on the receiving end of one was leaving him a bit uncomfortable.
Once he made it back to his spot, the next few fights went by quickly, and a bit painfully on Hinata's and Kankuro's fights, until it was Rock Lee against Gaara. Watching that fight made Naruto suddenly realize the gap between him and other genin close to his age. Some were weaker than him, but there were some way out of his league. Gaara, however, seemed untouchable. Unbeatable. A monster that will kill you if you tried to fight him. Being near him felt like being near death itself.
And Naruto hated feeling that way.
Gaara was just a genin like Naruto and yet he was terrified of the kid. Naruto was equally, if not more afraid of Zabuza than he is of Gaara but that would be obvious! Zabuza was a jonin while he was merely a fresh genin. However this time it's Gaara, a genin just like him. He went up against Zabuza AND Haku before, as well as a chunin in his last mission. It felt as if he wasn't getting stronger but weaker!
'I NEED to get stronger. Much stronger!'
Naruto was now walking down the hospital's corridor after just visiting his unconscious teammate. With hands in his pockets and a head full of thoughts, he turned the corner to face the receptionist's desk and waiting room. He spotted Kakashi signing in at the front desk and Naruto decided to go ask him a few things the boy had on his mind. "Hey, Kakashi-sensei-"
"Hmm? Oh, hey Naruto, just the kid I wanted to see. Listen, I won't be able to train you this time around since Sasuke needs more care, but I managed to call in a favor with someone who's more qualified than me to round out your basics before teaching you stronger things."
"Aw, man." Naruto quietly whined, truly bummed out that Kakashi wouldn't train him since he knew about his leveling-up potential.
"Oh and hey, about your- let's call it gamer potential since you level up like a game- gamer potential, I took the time to write out a plan for you to follow. If your gamer potential does operate like an actual game, then we need to deduce the abilities and limitations this game of yours has."
"Aw yeah! You're so awesome, Kakashi-sensei! I knew you were the best!" Naruto exclaimed excitably.
Kakashi eye smiled as he ruffled the kid's hair, all the praises and affirmations were almost making Kakashi blush. "Thanks, Naruto, I truly appreciate it."
"Hehehee! So who's my sensei anyways?"
"That would be me."
Naruto turned to face a familiar man wearing glasses. "Hmm? The closet pervert? Kakashi, are you sure you got the right guy?"
"Closet pervert-?"
"AH! What he means is-" Ebisu quickly interrupted while slapping a hand over Naruto's mouth. "We've met before and it was a simple misunderstanding!"
Naruto slapped Ebisu's hand away and jumped out of Ebisu's reach. "A misunderstanding? Yeah right. Kakashi what can this guy teach me?"
"Well for one, how to improve your chakra control." Kakashi supplied.
"What? But I already know how to walk up trees!"
"Hmph. But do you know how to walk on water?" Ebisu remarked.
Naruto scrunched up his face in a 'Are you serious' look. "Walk on water? Who am I Jesus?"
Kakashi chuckled while Ebisu let out a frustrated sigh. "Listen. Water walking is used to gain better chakra control than Tree Climbing. To do this, the user has to be emitting a constant stream of chakra from the bottom of their feet and using the repellent force to walk across the water's surface. This technique is more difficult to master than tree climbing because the amount of chakra that needs to be emitted changes constantly." Ebisu explained.
"Oh ok, but is that all we're going to be working on?"
"Well, you have to master Water Walking first! Do that and then we'll see!"
Kakashi squatted down next to Naruto and whispered, "Psst, Naruto. Go easy on this guy for me, ok? I want you to do your best so you can surprise me when I come back to see your match against Neji."
"You're going to be out of the village?" Naruto asked in a disappointed and worried tone.
"Just until the training period is over. Then I'll come back and train with you on that gamer potential of yours after the exams are over. What do you say, huh?" Kakashi whispered while he held his fist out.
Naruto smiled as he bumped his fist with Kakashi's. "You got it sensei! I'll get so strong you won't be able to believe it!"
"I can't wait to see it."
Naruto and Ebisu were now at Ichiraku's eating ramen since Kakashi suggested that Ebisu should take Naruto there to get him to open up more. "Now Naruto, do you know why Kakashi told me to teach you chakra control as the most important thing?"
"Hmm? Kakashi told you that?" Naruto muttered with a mouthful of noodles.
"Swallow your food before you talk. You'll embarrass yourself in front of girls if you continue to do that." Ebisu retorted. He cleared his throat, silently saying 'sorry for that'. "And yes he did. When we compare your skills in chakra control to that of your teammates, Sakura's and Sasuke's, your skill, or rather, your lack of skill in chakra control becomes obvious."
"Mmm," Naruto growled, not a fan of his ninja skills being bashed. "Yeah yeah, I know."
"Oh, do you? Let's compare you with your teammates. First is Sakura. In her case, her build-up control as well as her control of chakra is perfect, so she can make clones without wasteful energy. Sasuke is, while not nearly as talented as Sakura in building up chakra, his control of chakra is perfect. Finally, we have you, you are terrible at building up chakra and at controlling it and you only manage to make one clone while wasting so much more chakra in the process. In fact, with that amount of chakra, Sakura and Sasuke would be able to produce ten."
Naruto silently placed his bowl down while he stared in mild frustration. 'No wonder I haven't gotten stronger! Urgh! How long have I been so far behind Sasuke and Sakura!' He quickly devoured another bowl and let out a satisfied burp. "Alright then, we're going to need to cover a lot of stuff so that I can catch up."
Ebisu was slightly shocked but quickly smirked at the boy's determination. "Very well. I guess I can cover this bill this one time."
"Really? You're the best Closet- Err, Ebisu-sensei!"
Ebisu chuckled before he pulled out his wallet and finally glanced at how much the boy had eaten. His eyes widened as they kept on rising higher and higher. "That's 13 bowls of ramen plus your two so that'll be 15,746.96 ryos please!"
Ebisu drooped his head and unenthusiastically handed the money over to Ayame.

"Wah!"
Naruto yelled as he fell into the hot spring's hot water. He had been training in his water walking exercise with Ebisu and he had already fallen in a couple of times, but he was starting to get the hang of it. 'Woah, this is a whole lot harder than I thought! But I have to do this to catch up! Cmon!'
'Outstanding! This boy, no Naruto, managed to already get the basics of this down! It's only been a couple of tries and yet he almost has the hang of it.' Ebisu tilted his glass up and let out a smug chuckle. "You're doing well Naruto. Of course, it is because I'm telling you what to do."
"Woah!" Naruto exclaimed before falling into the hot springs' water. After he resurfaced, he swam over to the ground and pulled himself out. "Yeah right. The teacher's only good as his student."
"And the student is only as good as his teacher! Ahem. Although you're right about one thing, students and teachers need to come to an understanding if they ever want to reach their true potential."
"I guess you have a point." Naruto idly mumbled as he was mainly focusing on his current attempt at water walking.
After he fell in and swam back to the ledge, Ebisu was distracted by some pervy giggling. As a man of culture himself, Ebisu knew exactly what that giggling tone meant. 'Hmm, maybe if I catch an actual perv then maybe the brat will stop calling me a closet pervert.'
Ebisu chuckled to himself before he pointed in the direction he heard the giggling coming from. "Stop right there you scoundrel! Do you think I'd let such deplorable behavior-" Ebisu was cut off mid-sentence as the guy he was yelling at made a giant toad pop out of nowhere. "Huh-? AH!" Ebisu yelled before he was knocked out by the toad slamming him into the ground face first.
"Sensei!" Naruto ran up and checked on the now flattened-out Ebisu. "What was that for?! You just flattened my sensei! Now you have to take responsibility and train me!"
"What kind of logic is that? Ya, little snot-nosed brat."
"What the-?! Brat?! Ergh!"
"Listen sport, I'm busy so beat it."
Naruto's short fuse was now lit and he wanted some payback for what the man was putting him through. He was so far behind that any time wasted on not training was a severe hinder to him. "Busy?! You're just peeking at the girls bathing just like a creepy old man!"
"Whoa! Hey hey, kid! Keep your voice down! The hunnies will hear you!" The older man cried out as he tried to hush him.
"I hope the women hear me! They should have the right to know that you're peaking on them!"
"Hey hey hey! Quiet down!"
Suddenly Jiraiya picked up the loud sound of one woman screaming and quickly after that the rest followed. Everyone rushed out of the bath and into the changing room, wanting to dress quickly as possible.
"Awww! Look at what you did! You ruined my peeking-! I mean research!"
"Dirty Old Man!"
"Why you little! There's nothing dirty about it! I happened to be a serious author that's just inspired by youth and beauty, that's all! And-!"
"Yeah right! Like anyone believes that! Who cares anyway! What about my training?!"
"Hmm? You mean the water walking technique?"
"You know it? C'mon, you gotta train me!"
"Not on your life kid. I can't work with someone who has no respect for a true artist! Besides, I don't like kids."
Naruto took a step forward to try and stop him but suddenly remembered something he had in his weapons pouch. 'Oh, man. My self-pride is going to take a skydive.' Naruto swallowed the lump in his throat before he opened his mouth. "Err actually, I thought your book Make-out Paradise was really well written, and interesting, and informative!"
"Ha! Liar. My books aren't for sale to kids."
"No honestly! Look!" Naruto gulped down his pride and pulled out the book Kakashi had given him on his latest mission. "See? I love this book!" Naruto shouted out shakily.
Jiraiya narrowed his eyes and walked over to the kid before he snatched the book, eliciting a "Hey!" from Naruto. He skimmed through the pages and clapped it closed after a few moments with his eyes shut. He took in a small breath before he ruffled the kid's head. "Wow, kid! Sorry about before, I didn't know you were a truly dedicated fan of mine!"
"Huh?"
"I mean you truly understood what I was going for!" Jiraiya opened the book and pointed at some highlighted text that had some notes and comments scribbled out next to it. "Only a true fan would understand and see my work as clearly as I do! I'm truly grateful!"
Naruto was left dumbfounded for a few seconds before he regathered his bearings. "Yeah, it's fine. So does this mean you'll be in charge of my training?"
Jiraiya quickly lost his grin and began to pout. "Awe, I don't know kid. Peeking- I mean researching- takes up a lot of my time, so I don't know if I can afford the time to train you." Naruto's head dropped, he had sacrificed his dignity and pride in himself for a chance to be trained under this strong ninja who just took down Ebisu like it was nothing. Jiraiya, however, misread the situation and truly thought the boy was depressed that he wouldn't be able to train under his idol. "Alright, kid. Tell you what, you got today to impress me enough to take training you seriously."
"Really?! Awesome! Let's get started! I don't want to waste a single second!"
"Hold on, let's go somewhere else I know. Somewhere where you preferably won't be boiled alive with every failed attempt."
Jiraiya had taken Naruto to a clearing with a river to practice his water walking. "Alright, here. Practice your water walking here."
"Got it." Naruto quickly walked over to the edge of the clearing before he focused on his chakra. 'Just like earlier… got it.'
"Wah!"
Naruto falls in since the water is not as calm there as it was back in the hot springs. He swims out and mutters that he really should've taken his clothes off before attempting water walking. With Naruto now undressed, Jiraiya easily saw the fuinjutsu scrawled along the boy's gut. "Naruto, come here."
"Huh? What for?"
"I want to watch you channel your chakra. I just want you to channel it through your whole body for right now."
"Oh, well alright! No problem!"
With the boy's chakra now channeling throughout his entire body, the seal became as visible as it could get. 'Hmm, looks like two four trigrams seals. The Fourth Hokage sure knew what he was doing when designing the seal, and all in the heat of battle no less. That man was truly a genius in the making. Too bad he was killed so soon. However, it looks like the seal was tampered with. There's a five-pronged seal placed on top of the two four trigrams seals. That could be what's affecting the boy's chakra control.' Jiraiya moved his right arm behind his back, and each fingertip soon became engulfed by a small blue flame. "Hey Naruto, do me a favor and stretch up your arms as high as you can."
"Huh? Well, if you say so."
"Good good, now sorry Naruto, this might hurt just a little bit."
"Huh?"
"Five-Pronged Seal: Release!"
"ARGH!" Naruto screamed out in pain before he fell to the ground. The force from Jiraiya's sudden jab left Naruto panting on the ground, gasping for some much-needed air since Jiraiya knocked the wind out of Naruto. "What the hell was that for ya Pervy Sage!"
"Try Water Walking now."
Naruto grunted as he slowly stood up and began to rub his stomach. He stopped just in front of the water before he put his hands in the ram hand sign. 'Ok, let's go.' He placed a hesitant step on the water's surface before placing another one… and another one, and another. "Hey look at me! I'm walking on water!" Naruto shouted out in glee before he ran all over the lake's surface. "Yippee! Wahoo!"

"Alright alright, bring it back in Naruto. We have a couple more stuff to go over." Jiraiya said with a wide smile, accidentally distracting him from the screen. 'The boy might just have some innate natural talent… or maybe he's like me. Too stubborn to quit until he masters it. Well, I guess it's time to teach him how to control the fox's chakra.' When Naruto was right in front of Jiraiya, the boy was still cheekily giggling happily at his newest achievement. "Alright Naruto, since you are a passionate fan of my work- and we'll throw in your mastery of water walking in there for a little bonus- I'm now offering to become your sensei."
"Really?" Naruto was on the edge of his seat.
"Of course! And since I'm your sensei now, I'm going to teach you how to-"
"I want to learn how you do that frog jutsu!"
Jiraiya was, 1, caught off guard at being interrupted like that, and 2, humored that Naruto called them frogs. 'Let's hope he doesn't ever call Gamabunta a frog.' "Ahem. Ok Naruto, first that jutsu is called a summoning. You have to first sign a contract with the animal you want to summon. Second, they are called Toads. Don't ever let the boss summons hear you call them frogs, it's a touchy subject for them. But we'll get started on that tomorrow, for now, why don't we both go take a nice, hot, and relaxing soak."
"You got it Pervy Sage!"
"Don't call me that in front of other people, got it?"
"No promises!" Naruto cheekily giggled as Jiraiya's head drooped.
Later that night, Jiraiya was grinning while watching over the sleeping boy. Ebisu came from behind him before he leaned forward to watch over the kid too. "Sorry for stealing your student Ebisu."
"Oh, that's of little importance right now. The Third Hokage has had his village's shinobi scour everywhere for you, we were just beginning to think that maybe you just wouldn't be found. Then you suddenly turn up here of all places, right in front of me. He will be pleased to know that you are back in the village."
"Have you told the Hokage that I'm currently in the village?"
"No."
"Good, it's better that way."
"But Master Jiraiya! The village needs your strength! Orochimaru is one of the Sannin! He can only be stopped by the power of another Sannin! Your power Master Jiraiya!"
"What about the Hokage?" Ebisu spluttered for a second before he began to stammer. "What kind of Hokage has the old man become?" Jiraiya asked himself. "His own shinobi doesn't believe he can handle someone like Orochimaru."
"But Orochimaru is of a different caliber!"
"And that Old Monkey was the one that taught and trained him. If anyone should stop him, it should be him. But no. That sorry excuse for a Hokage is more concerned about how he would look to the public."
"Master Jiraiya!" Ebisu shouted in disblief. He never thought that Jiraiya, a loyal student of the Third Hokage, would ever utter such words.
"I'm sure you've heard by now but the Third Hokage had a chance to put down Orochimaru for good back when he was still in the village. The Old Monkey infiltrated one of his secret bases and managed to corner him and what did he do? He let the traitor escape. He was dissecting the Third's own civilians and shinobi, and he let him escape. As far as I'm concerned, this is the Old Man's problem."
Ebisu was breathing hard. He was angry with what Jiraiya was saying but he couldn't counter-argue what the man had said. He had heard of what the Third Hokage had done. He had heard of what Orochimaru was doing prior. And, in all honesty, he had lost respect for the Third Hokage.
Almost all of Konoha's shinobi had.
But they still followed orders, they still obeyed his word, and they still acted with respect. Because they respected the Hokage title.
Ebisu silently walked toward the roof door. Halfway there he turned around. "I won't tell the Hokage that you're in the village. I believe you Master Jiraiya, I'm putting all my trust in you."
Jiraiya silently watched Ebisu open the roof door before closing it. After a few seconds, he turned back to watch over Naruto who was still sleeping soundly in his bed. 'The older generation has failed the newer one in keeping old enemies at bay. I'm afraid that the peace the Shinobi World is in is only temporary. I hate it, but the newer generation might have to pick up after us. I can only hope that Naruto will make it out okay.'
Jiraiya let out a silent heavy sigh before he turned to walk away. He needed some sleep if he was going to train Naruto in the morning. "Oh yeah," Jiraiya pulled out the book he wrote that he'd taken from Naruto earlier that day. He smirked before he opened it and saw that Jiraiya had previously signed it and addressed it to Kakashi. "I wonder if I should return this to Kakashi or if I should just hand it back to the kid. He'll need it later down the road anyways… Oh, what the heck, I'll just hand it back to him." Jiraiya bellowed out.
Naruto woke up and began to stretch out his arms. "Ahhhh-hhaaaaaa," Naruto yawned. He smacked his lips while groggily blinking his eyes, trying to make the mental fogginess go away. He yawned again before his mind suddenly reminded him of the slip of paper Kakashi had given him. He remembered stashing it under his pillow before he went to Ichiraku's with Ebisu.
He quickly woke up and jumped off the bed. He ran into the bathroom and took a quick shower to wash away any vestiges of sleep that remained. When he finished, he dressed himself up in his usual attire before he opened the note.
Naruto, first make sure that you and ONLY you read this. Second, only read further if you're alone and in a safe environment.
Naruto put down the note and quickly looked around himself, spotting no one. "Check and check!"
Now, if we're going to test the limits of the game, first we need to see what makes you level up. Sadly this will have to wait until after the chunin exams as I have to be there to watch over you during this. Second, now this you can do by yourself, is to pretty much grind anything you can. Whether that be skills that the game offers or anything else. Games typically offer a grindable stat or mechanic. Your job is to find out what that mechanic is.
'Woah, Kakashi-sensei really is a gamer!' Naruto slipped the paper right back under his pillow before stretching and opening the game HUD.

Naruto's eyebrows rose before he quickly closed it. He didn't know what to choose so he'll ask Kakashi's opinion when he gets back. "Oh! I'll draw it so that way Kakashi-sensei knows what I'm talking about. That way he doesn't have to wait till I master genjutsu." He grabbed some paper and plopped them on his table. He scoured the apartment for a pencil, silently cursing his younger self for not being organized enough until he found one and sat back down on his chair. "Okay! Let's see here…" he mentally pulled up the HUD and stared at it for a few seconds before he closed it- and saw Jiraiya standing there with a weird expression on his face.
"WHAA-!" The boy yelled before he fell out of his chair. "Pervy Sage! What are you doing here?!"
"Well, I came to get my student for our training!" Jiraiya laughed, although he was confused about why Naruto was staring in his direction for a while before he reacted. "Why? Having second thoughts about being my student?"
"No! It's just that… I didn't know when we'd start is all, heheh."
"Alright! C'mon with me then Naruto, today you're learning the summoning jutsu!"
"Oh yeah! C'mon, sensei! Time's a ticking!" The boy yelled as he rushed out of the apartment ahead of the man, leaving the stack of papers forgotten on his table.
"Ugh," Ino half-heartedly whined. "Of course our first time visiting Sasuke in the hospital would turn out to be a disaster."
The two girls had just exited the hospital after they attempted to visit Sasuke and Lee to wish them a quick recovery.
Sakura turned to face the girl with a little, sarcastic smile. "Oh stop it Ino. Lee was hurt really bad."
"And the last thing he wants is for anyone to pity him. Think about it Sakura! Put yourself in his shoes. You heard what he said back in the preliminaries, Taijutsu was all he had since he was never good at anything else. Now all of that effort and progress was ripped away from him. I'm amazed he didn't just quit. You know I would have if that happened to me."
"Yeah, I guess you're right."
"I'm just saying that Lee doesn't want pity. He knows what he has to do to get back into shape, he just doesn't want to be looked down upon or looked at with pity."
Sakura let out a heavy sigh before she nodded her head. "You're right. I just hope that Lee gets better soon." She looked up and saw a popular restaurant people close to her age liked to visit. "Hey, you want to stop by Yakiniku Q? I haven't had it in a while."
"Sure but me and my team eat there all the time."
"Really?" Sakura asked as they opened the doors to enter the restaurant.
Ino turned to give Sakura a dry look. "I'm on a team with Choji, Sakura."
"Oh right." Sakura giggled. "Well, how do you like your team?"
"*huff* It's ok but Choji mainly thinks about food while all Shikamaru wants to do is laze around."
"Really? So they're slouchers?"
"Well, not necessarily. When we're on a mission or if the time demands it, they're both pretty good. The chemistry between Shikamaru and Choji is so good that they understand each other without having to say a word."
"Yeah, Sasuke and Naruto are the same in action, but whenever we're not, they're always arguing with each other."
"Really? Well, Naruto is pretty annoying so that's understandable but I didn't think that Sasuke would stoop to Naruto's level and argue back. He always seemed like he couldn't be bothered with anyone or anything." Ino said as she relaxed into a slouching position.
"*pfft* Please, when you're with them for this long you pick up a thing or two. Sasuke is just as childish and quick to anger just like Naruto. He just hides it better and isn't as hyper as Naruto. Naruto always wears his emotions on his sleeve." Sakura giggled as she tucked a bit of her hair behind her ear.
"Well, that…" Ino started only to trail off as she sat up. "...doesn't sound too bad actually. I'd love it if Sasuke was like that too."
"Trust me, he's only like that with Naruto and that's only because he bickers with him so all he's showing is his snarky side…"
The girl's conversation continued, talking about whatever came to mind as a way to make up for time. However, that little comment about Sakura's teammate began to grow in the back of her mind. That's exactly what Ino was looking for in a romantic partner. Someone easy to read so she's not always guessing, after all, she's the same way. Then it clicked. Ino and Naruto had a couple of things in common. Stubborn, loud, not afraid to say what's on their mind. Although Ino had more tact than Naruto did.
Quickly, that singular thought had turned into many. Daydreams of what could be, what would be.
After they paid for their meal, Ino said her farewell to Sakura and told her that she wanted to take care of something. The Yamanaka was walking the streets of Konoha till the sun began to set, this whole time trying to look for Naruto. She needed proof that what her mind imagined was true. She needed to know if that future her mind thought of was possible.
"Ughhh. This is crazy! What am I even doing?!" She whispered harshly. She turned down an alleyway thoughtlessly as she continued. "I can't believe me, Ino Yamanaka was brought down to thi-" Ino was cut short when she saw Hinata Hyuga looking at her with a deer caught in headlights look. "Hinata? What are you doing here?"
"Umm- nothing! I was just mindlessly walking around and ended up here." She blurted out before slapping on an innocent smile that wasn't at all convincing. Ino narrowed her eyes before she noticed that there was a corner behind the girl. Ino quickly peeked around and saw the boy she was looking for before Ino was yanked back harshly. "Ok ok, I was following Naruto around because I wanted to see what he was up to."
"Why not just talk to him like a regular person?" Ino suddenly felt like a hypocrite as she wanted to do what Hinata was doing. Ino gasped as her eyes widened a fraction as she suddenly put two and two together. "Hinata, do you like Naruto?"
"What?!" She quietly shouted in a panicked tone. "No! It's just-! I just-! You see-!" Hinata's body slumped as she gave up trying to come up with an excuse. "...yes." Ino felt her body go cold. She took another peak around the corner and saw Naruto, who was currently on his balcony, nodding off while he had a cup of instant ramen in his hand as he sat facing where the sun was setting. "He was training all day."
Ino turned back around and saw the girl with a defeated face that was tinted with the admiration she felt for Naruto. "He was training hard to get stronger. Strong enough to beat Neji."
Hinata, I give you my word.
Ino remembered seeing Naruto back in the preliminaries crouching down and running his fingers through Hinata's blood on the floor. He stood back up and turned to face Neji with a face full of determination.
I vow to win.
"Oh yeah, he did promise you that he'd win that match." Ino idly said aloud, Hinata's eyes widened with disbelief.
"Really? He really said that? What exactly did he say?"
"Well, he used his fingers to pick up some of your blood and said "Hinata, I give you my word. I vow to win." while holding his fist out to Neji." Hinata's face was filled with disbelief. She turned to face the wall to her right as she sat down on the ground. "Hinata? Are you okay?"
"He's going to win."
"What?"
"Naruto. He's going to win."
"Are you sure? Neji is a really strong guy. He made quick work of you and you were one of the top in our class." Ino stated. She wanted to believe the girl, but she wanted to make sure that Hinata understood what she was saying. Naruto had the potential to be strong, Ino knew that for certain, but she understood that it took time to get that strong.
"Absolutely." Hinata declared as she stood up. There was now a fire in her eyes that was so bright even Ino could see. "If Naruto could get that strong by being determined enough to reach it, then I have no excuse to not be that strong." She peered back around the corner and saw Naruto almost falling out of the lawn chair he had been sitting in earlier. She watched him stand up and go back inside, presumably to throw the trash away and get some sleep. "I'll get strong. Just like you Naruto. I'll get strong enough to stand by your side and fight alongside you."
Ino watched Hinata's speech in awe. This girl truly loved Naruto. Just like how she wanted and judging from her words, she wanted to feel the same way with someone like Naruto to love her back.
"Hinata-sama!"
"Eep!" Hinata squeaked from the sudden fright of being caught doing something she wasn't supposed to be doing. Both girls turned around and saw another Hyuga running towards them. Hinata shrunk in on herself causing Ino to raise an eyebrow in confusion.
"Hinata-sama, I thought your father talked to you about this." The man spoke with an exasperated tone. The girl nodded her head in confirmation, causing the man to let out a huff while placing his hands on his hips. "Then what are you doing out here instead of being in the hospital Hinata-sama?"
"It's just…"
"Hinata was doing me a favor that she promised me earlier," Ino interjected, causing the Hyuga to focus on her. "It was before the preliminaries that I asked her to do this, I didn't even know she needed to stay in the hospital any longer I promise." She said as she held her hands up. The Hyuga eased up on his glare before Ino decided her lie needed a little deeper push. She copied the Hyuga's pose as she turned to face Hinata. "Girl, why didn't you tell me you were in the hospital? I want you to go back in there and don't leave until you get better! Or until the chunin exams take place, but you have to be in way better health!"
Hinata's eyes widened with shock and fright as Ino began ranting at her but soon softened into understanding ones before she nodded her head in fake remorse. "I will, I'm sorry Ino, Ko. I'll head back to the hospital now. I just wanted to keep my promise."
Ko let out a remorseful sigh for being so harsh on the girl earlier. "Alright, come on Hinata-sama. Let's go back to the hospital."
"Yes, Ko-san."
Ino watched the two walk toward the hospital. After they were out of sight, Ino peeked around the corner and saw that Naruto was nowhere in sight. Now she was the one to turn and stare at the wall to her right as she plopped on the ground. "Well, she was no help in helping me not fall for Naruto." She peeked around the corner once more before she let out a sigh. "I think I'm in trouble."
Hachō Village…
Inside a cafe in the Hachō Village, there were many people gathered within. Towards the back, there was a mysterious, ominous figure drenched in shadows. The usual village residents avoided this man as they felt this dangerous aura around him. The dark figure suddenly jerked, causing those closest to him to flinch in surprise and fright. He stood up and headed outside. With the sun now shining down on him, his large black cloak was revealed but his body and face remained hidden underneath shadows.
The figure was now leaving the village. Wanting to head toward the half-breed he needed to see. The half-breed that he now needed to track down.
