Recently, Class 1-A have started their hero internships and been quite busy. It's been about 3 days since Izuku and Mina last hung out but today they were given a break! In fact most if not all internships were on hold. It was really strange, no hero work and no school, granted it was Saturday but still!.
Bakugo had been watching Kirishima, Kaminari and Sero battling in Smash Bros on the couch in the lobby, for a while, until he looked to his left to see Mina looking very... Calm. She was usually a gigantic supernova of energy and unless she had just been training, she'd normally join the guys in playing games.
Mina on the other hand was debating on trying to talk to Izuku today, he'd been looking upset lately and she wanted to help him but she didn't wanna keep leaving her friends to hang high and dry.
"Are you gonna mope all day, Racoons Eyes?" Bakugo said in a terse tone.
Mina immediately felt hatred brew in her as she spoke "I'm just thinking."
"That's a first..." Bakugo said as they both looked at the TV.
Mina snapped, she stood up and walked to Izuku's room without telling the others.
Kirishima was both puzzled and upset "Bro. Why do you keep outing her?"
Bakugo turned to him "She's been obsessed with that damn nerd lately! I can see it on her face, it makes me sick!"
Kaminari sighed "She just wants to help him, man".
"Oh suuure she does!" He groaned "Just play your stupid game!".
They resumed their game but the air was more tense then usual.
Meanwhile Mina had made it to Izuku's door and was hesitant at first but finally found the courage to knock.
"It's open..." Came the low voice of Izuku.
Mina opened the door to see Izuku at his desk, looking at his hand which covered a piece of paper, she closed the door behind her and walked up to him. "What's up?" She asked softly.
"Nothing..." His voice sounded raspy. Had he been crying? She quickly turned to see his face and noticed tear marks had stained his cheeks.
Mina hugged him immediately without hesitation. She hated seeing her friend upset. "What's wrong?" She said in a low comforting tone.
Izuku took a deep breath. If he could trust Mina with his past... He can trust her with this. He just hoped no one would yell at him for spilling this. "What I'm about to say, you can't tell anyone else, okay?" He slowly took his hand off the paper.
"You got it, Midori" she smiled then looked to his paper and saw that it had notes about what to do in a hostage situation. Weird... Why would Izuku be writing about this?
"So... Yesterday... I was on patrol with Lemillion." Izuku was tearing up a bit. "and this girl... This terrified girl bumps into me from an alley we were passing." Izuku's fists tightened. "Bandages covered her arms and legs, she wore a rag that resembled a white dress and she had a single horn on the right of her forehead."
Ashido was slowly becoming very concerned, both for this girls situation and all the emotions Izuku has been keeping within him. "Just as we were asking where her parents were, a man stepped out from the ally claiming to be her father. That man was Kai Chisaki, Yakuza leader of the Shie Hassaikai...".
Mina suddenly felt chills go up her spine as Izuku continued. "We were told he's been up to some very suspicious activity lately and I know... I know it has to do with that girl. As soon as he said he wanted her back, she grabbed me so tight. She was crying in fear. I wanted to do something but Mirio said it wasn't the time or place... But that girl." He hit his fists on his desk, startling Mina slightly "I didn't save her! God only knows what he's putting her through!".
Izuku had finally let loose, he let the tears fall and waves of disappointment set in as Mina hugged him from the side and gently stroked his back. "Shhhh it's okay, Midori... You'll save her... I believe in you.". Truth be told. She did! She believed in him. When it came to being a hero, no one could compare to the determination of Izuku Midoriya.
Mina gently guided him to stand up and had him sit on his bed so she could properly hug him. "You'll get her back, Izuku." She gave him a light squeeze. "I know it.".
After a moment, Izuku finally started to calm down. "Mina... I'm sor-" he was quickly cut off by Mina, who turned his head so they met, eye to eye.
"Don't you dare!" She gave him a stern look. "I don't ever wanna hear you say you're sorry for being yourself, ever!".
Izuku was taken back by this a bit. He quickly realized though. Mina, as of late, has always been supportive of him expressing his emotions, he didn't have to hide anything with her. He also felt his heart pump as she gave him this adorable pouty expression.
"O-Okay, M-M-Mina" he replied nervously. He then got a wild idea "Do... You wanna um... Dance with me? I've been practicing."
Mina was shocked but her happiness could hardly be contained. She still did her best to try. "You sure, Midori?".
Izuku nodded yes and Mina practically just exploded with happiness and giggling. "Let's do it!".
Mina went through the lengthy process of teaching Izuku to do basic breakdance moves so her feet didn't become as flat as pancakes again.
After an hour or so, Izuku sat down on the floor to rest as Mina followed suit.
"Lately when I'm stressed out... I think about dancing. I know I'm not really great at it but its been on my mind.". Izuku smiled gently
Mina however couldn't hide her smile. "Really?! That's great! And don't talk yourself down, Izu. Your a great dancer! You just need more practice!". She then looked away. "Dancing helps me let out my emotions. It's like a crazy organized spastic flailing that gets my blood pumping!".
Izuku smiled, feeling somewhat the same way. Lately when stressing out, he suddenly wants to dance, as if to let it all out.
"I can't imagine what it was like..." Mina softly spoke. "Seeing a defenseless little girl get dragged away by someone like that... I can only imagine how you felt that day" she finished as she looked at him.
Izuku nodded "I've been in a rut ever since. But... Thank you for bringing me out of it Mina" he gave a golden smile that practically made Mina turn lavender with blush.
"I-It was nothing, what are best friends for right Izu?" She smiled back. As she opened her eyes she was greeted with the sight of Izuku freaking out slowly. She didn't understand why until he spoke.
"B-Best F-Friend? I-I-Izu?!" He suddenly panicked.
Mina was quiet for a moment, just taking in the fact that she gave him the cutesy nickname, Izu. However, she decided to own it. "Y-Yeah... You're one of the most incredible people I know, with a true heart of a hero. I'd say your more than just special to me, the entire class is inspired by you" she could feel the dumb grin on her face growing.
Izuku blushed and hugged her out of instinct. Mina quickly accepted his hug as they both relaxed into the embrace.
After a minute, Izuku backed away slowly as his blushing face grew hotter. "Hehe sorry about that".
Mina smiled "Don't be, Izu hehe. Hey! Since we've got some time. Why don't we go to my room and play some video games!"
Izuku watched her bounce with so much excitement that he couldn't refuse her, so they went to her room to play. Meanwhile, the rest of class 1-A were eating dinner. However as they ate, a certain classmate couldn't help but notice two absences.
Mineta looked around "Hey... Where are Ashido and Midoriya?"
The whole class suddenly perked up. Almost at if they forgot the two existed.
Iida adjusted his glasses "Well Midoriya has been rather down lately, perhaps Ashido is attempting to raise his spirits.".
"Isn't it odd though," Momo added "It was only recently that they began to become friends, now it seems they are joined at the hip!"
A light gasp was made by Uraraka, as she suddenly grew nervous. The gasp wasn't heard by most, only Jirou heard it. Jirou would have to talk to Uraraka soon.
Kaminari sighed "It is weird, Mina has been acting strange since hanging out with Midoriya.".
Iida smiled "She seems fine to me. I even saw her focusing harder in class recently! A very welcome change!"
"You would pick up on that four eyes..." Bakugo mumbled.
Sero looked at Bakugo "Come to think of it. The only thing that's really changed is that everytime she sees you, she's upset." Sero chuckled
Bakugo grunted but then... He thought about it... Ever since she's been hanging out with Deku, she's had zero tolerance for Bakugo's antics. Did... Did Deku tell her? Did... Did he tell her about their past?!
Bakugo shot out of his seat and marched to the stairs.
Iida looked worried "Bakugo! Please do not cause trouble!"
Bakugo wasn't listening as he was currently marching to Deku's room. He opened it... No one there. He made his way to Mina's room and just as he's about to knock. He hears something.
"You know what Izu... I think this is my favorite part of our friendship." Said the voice of Mina.
Bakugo's eyes narrowed in confusion as he continued to listen.
"Seriously, Mina? THIS is your favorite thing?" Deku groaned
Mina chuckled "What can I say? You know how to make a girl feel good!" She laughed pretty loud after saying that.
Bakugo was seeeeeeeething. He grit his teeth, restraining himself from losing his mind and blowing that door off its hinges.
Deku chuckled a bit "I never thought roughing up my hands would give me magic fingers. I just hope I don't hurt you."
"Heck no! Do it harder!" Mina's reply came.
Bakugo was now fidgeting and had now run from the hallway, to the lobby, past a lot of his confused classmates, and ran behind the dormplex before finally unleashing an explosion into the air that from the sound of it could rival a nuclear missile's.
Meanwhile in Mina's room
Mina looked to her window "Did you hear that? Sounds like Bakugo is upset about somethin".
Izuku chuckled "Hopefully one of the teachers can handle it. I've got my hands full hehe"
Izuku was somehow stuck rubbing Mina's feet again. It was a punishment for coming second place in Mario Kart.
Mina continued to try and tease him "Well I know you'll never wanna take your hands away hehe."
Izuku sighed "Mina, I keep trying to tell you. I'm not into-"
Mina's big toe was now pressed against his lips "Shhhh it's okay, your secret is safe with me, Izu~"
Izuku sighed, feeling he'd never be able to convince Mina otherwise. That being said, he didn't mind rubbing her feet, he used to do it for his mom a while back to show his appreciation for all her hard work.
Mina smirked "Hey, Izuku... I won't lie. Your training has kinda inspired me lately to try studying more but... I have... NO idea how to do it. I tried taking notes and I got bored, tried focusing more on class, fell asleep. So uh... Would you mind helping meeeee?" She gave Izuku the most adorable alien-like, puppy dog eyes he'd ever seen.
Izuku smiled bashfully "S-Sure thing Mina."
Mina perked up and hugged her friend "Thank you so much, Izu!"
Izuku was shaking profusely but returned the hug regardless "Y-Your w-welcome!"
Mina suddenly let go "Hey... I know your gonna save that girl and all but... Do me a favor?... Please... Try not to get hurt."
Izuku nodded confidently, almost absent mindedly as he took into consideration how much faith she had in him "I'll do my best Mina!"
Mina only chuckled "That's what I'm worried about!"
They continued to hang out for a few more hours. Meanwhile, the class had finished eating and Uraraka had volunteered to do dishes, however... She thought she'd be doing it alone when Jirou had suddenly started drying dishes without so much as a word of acknowledgement. Uraraka didn't really mind, until Jirou spoke that is.
Jirou sighed "You're conflicted..."
Uraraka turned to her "What?" She said in fake confusion.
Jirou's eyes narrowed "Don't play dumb... All the girls know about your little crush on Midoriya and now that Mina is getting closer and closer to him, you're getting worried."
Uraraka let out an exasperated sigh "Nothing gets past you huh?"
Jirou chuckled "Just because I'm not always front and center attention-wise, doesn't mean I'm not listening."
They continued cleaning for a minute or two until Jirou's curiosity peaked "So... Are you gonna say anything to them?"
Uraraka stopped washing and turned the water off "... I don't think it'd do much... I talked to Mina about it recently, she made it sound like she just wanted to help but... I think she's far too close to want to leave him now."
Jirou smiled "You'll never know unless you try. Plus, I don't think Mina would want to come between you and Midoriya. Remember, she was the one that really pushed for you guys."
Uraraka looked down "The problem is... I feel like I came between him and I... I kinda promised myself I'd lay off of him so I could focus on being a hero."
Jirou looked a bit surprised "Oh... Didn't expect that. Sorry"
Uraraka started washing again "It's something I need to figure out. Thanks for listening, Jirou"
Jirou simply kept drying "I do my best"
The girls smiled to each other to symbolize their happiness with the conversation.
Meanwhile...
Kirishima looked ready to flee "Uhhh Bakubro? Y-You okay?"
Bakugo had come back in from his literal explosion of rage and all his muscles were tense, his pupils were absent from his eyes. His teeth were grit so tight that the pressure on them could break brick.
Kaminari looked puzzled "So uh... What happened when you went to chat with them?"
Bakugo sharply turns to him and gripped Kaminari's face and with malice in his throat said "Not. One. More. Word!"
Kaminari tried to say okay but it was muffled from Bakugo's hand.
Mineta saw this and seemingly came to a sudden realization. "Wait a minute... B-Bakugo... Are you... Trying to tell me... THEY WERE HAVING SE-" Bakugo switched from holding Kaminari's face to Mineta's as he then ran outside and a loud explosion could be heard, followed by a rather high pitched squeal
As Bakugo came back in, the class was shocked at what they just heard.
Todoroki spoke up first "Bakugo... Is... Is it true?"
"What's it to you Icy hot!?!" Bakugo fired back "You jealous of him?! Cause I'm sure not!!!"
Todoroki calmly replied "I'm not jealous. I just... I never thought Midoriya was the type of person to do something like that. Especially before marriage."
Iida walked to the stairs "If this is true, I must reprimand Midoriya! I thought of all people he would know better than to engage in such activities with a classmate. Especially at their age!"
Momo yelled for him "I-I don't think that's a good idea, Iida"
"It is my job as class representative to deal with the disgraceful actions of my fellow classmates!" Iida remarked
Tooru grabbed hold of Iida "Just talk to them later, Iida!"
Others started stopping Iida from going up the stairs as Jirou looked to Ochako, who looked as if a frying pan had struck her head. Her eyes rolled back into her head and her mouth was agape.
Jirou finally had enough "Alright everyone shut up!" Everyone looked toward Jirou "I've got an idea"
At Mina's room.
Mina and Izuku were currently studying in her room. Izuku was hoping she might be able to use what she learns and apply it to her internship.
Mina however felt dead "Are we done yeeeeet?" She whined
Izuku looked at her homework and chuckled "Mina, you hardly did anything"
"This is an off day! I shouldn't be doing schoolwork!" She squeaked out as she flailed her arms about.
Izuku looked to her work. "I know math is hard but it is useful in life"
Mina groaned and put her head into her hands "Brain hurty..."
Izuku pat her shoulder "Just ask me whatever questions you like. Don't reject my help to try and prove something. I'm not going to mock you, make fun of you or anything like that. I promise."
Mina looked at Izuku's warm smile and it was just what she needed to keep going. She picked up her pencil and started bombarding Izuku with questions to which Izuku calmly responded to each and every one, making sure to never treat her like a burden.
As they studied, Jirou was listening in from the room next to Mina's. Iida, Uraraka, Bakugo, Tooru, Kaminari, Kirishima, Todoroki , Tsuyu, and Momo were being told what was happening through Jirou's earjack. Iida wiped tears of happiness at the fact, Mina was taking studying seriously. Everyone else was waiting for something interesting as the clock ticked.
Mina had just finished a mock test Izuku made to test if she was taking in any of the information he relayed. She was pretty happy though! She left nothing blank at least!
Finally , Izuku wrote something on the paper and handed it back to her, she looked at it and saw "81%! B-! Keep up the good work!". She nearly cried as she gasped and squealed.
Izuku chuckled "Granted I'm no teacher, but you're definitely picking up on this fast Mina!"
Mina smiled "It's only because you explain every single little detail to me hehe"
"That's what studying is hehe" Izuku replied
Mina was cut off from her happiness for a moment as a thought struck her.
Jirou whispers "I think we should leave. Their just studying"
The others sigh, some in relief others in annoyance
"Hey Izuku? You grew up with Bakugo bullying you right? How did you focus so hard on studying?" Mina asked
Jirou heard the whole thing and turned to the wall to whisper yell "Wait, what?!"
Everyone's interest perked and the started asking what happened but Jirou kept listening.
Izuku stuttered a bit in surprise "Uhhh W-Where did this come f-from?"
Mina shrugged "Your smart, Izuku. Very smart. Back in middle school if someone had a problem, be it with me or anyone else, I dealt with it. You seem like you'd do the same."
Izuku gulped "Well... I-I wanted to be the best hero ever. As great as All Might. So I knew I had to be smart. No matter how many times I was hit or even how many times I was laughed at."
Mina frowned "I wish I could have been there. I would never have made fun of someone just because I thought they didn't have a power."
Izuku sighed "I really could have used someone like you back then. Just... Someone to lean on, someone to tell me I could be a hero, it was hard enough getting beat up, laughed at, picked on, being the butt of everyone's joke, losing lunch money, and it only got worse as I grew up, it was every day. If a kid from my school saw me in public at a park or something they'd yell the word, Quirkless, nothing compared to Kachan though." Izuku suddenly covered his mouth feeling he'd says too much.
However, it was now Mina's turn to be patient with him "Don't worry, Izu, I promise I can keep whatever you tell me a secret. Your my friend, it's healthy to let this out."
Jirou was on the verge of tears from hearing Izuku's story. She kinda figured from his behavior that he'd been bullied but she swept that under the rug just like the rest of their classmates. The others kept asking what was said but she was too focused on listening, she tuned them out.
Izuku shivered "I-I need you to promise me... What I'm about to tell you... Please don't tell anyone. Not even our teachers."
Mina was a bit surprised "It's that bad? Well hey. I'm here for you" she smiled at him.
Jirou considered briefly pulling her jack out of the wall. She couldn't take much more.
Izuku sucked in a sharp breath of air to help himself breathe "When he and I were four, his quirk showed, mine didn't. Everyone praised him, the kids in class and even the teachers would tell him that he was gonna make a great hero... Over the years, he would start bullying others, only for me to step in and take the hit for them." Izuku took another breath "Him and his friends from middle school used to take every bit of their frustration out on me. I didn't mind that after a while... But one day... Bakugo exploded my hero journal."
Izuku closed his eyes trying to hold back tears, he got upset. He tried to forget this day but it is and always will be the most important of his life. "He told me to stop trying to play hero... Then he said... If I really wanted a quirk, I should swan dive off the roof and hope for one in the next life... And even though it was ridiculous... I considered it." Izuku's tears fell again. He grit his teeth and clenched his fists. The memory was just as painful as that day.
But like a guardian angel, Mina hugged him into her neck. Mina was trying to take deep breaths as tears slid down her cheeks. "I've gotcha, Izu. Don't worry. I'm here"
Jirou said nothing. She didn't want to out of fear for what Bakugo would do if she said it out loud. She finally started crying as well '... He... He considered...' .
Izuku calmed down after a minute "I d-don't want anyone else to kn-know that. I've f-forgiven him for it so p-please... Please keep it a secret"
Mina sighed "I-I promise, Izu... Thank you for trusting me"
Jirou finally unhooked her jack and turned to see all her classmates looking at her with concern. "Say a word... And I scream" Jirou said
They all shared a surprised look. Jirou then walked up to Bakugo, he merely raised an eyebrow in befuddlement. Jirou looked him square in the eye and without a trace of doubt said "Hero, my ass" she then walked out of the room. Everyone looked to Bakugo who was just as confused as the rest of them.
They tried to follow Jirou and talk to her but she locked herself in her room.
Mina stroked the back of Izuku's head then grew a smile. "I'm glad..." Izuku pulled back and looked at her "I'm glad that I can be the one you trust with this. It's an honor."
Izuku showed a slight smile before standing up "It's pretty late. I should go back to my room. Also ... I need to be alone and relax. I hope you understand."
Mina smiled "Of course Izu, Glad I could help." She hugged him one more time "Night. Oh here" she took his phone and put her number in it. "Text me when you get a chance, that way, if you need me. I'll be there."
Izuku smiled cheerfully and let out a hoarse giggle "Thanks Mina. I really appreciate it" he left her room "Night"
Mina slowly closed it "Night" it shut and she slid against the door. "What a long day..."
