Biography:
The year is 50 B.C. Gaul is entirely occupied by the Romans. Entirely? Well, not entirely. One small village of indomitable Gauls still holds out against the invaders. And life is not easy for the Roman legionaries who garrison the fortified camps of Totorum, Aquarium, Laudanum and Compendium...
Born the same day as his lifelong friend and Heterosexual Life Partner Obelix, Asterix was a young man when Gaul chief Vergincetorix surrendered to Rome. Asterix's village, led by Assurancetourix, kept on resisting the Romans, aided by the magic potion of druid Panoramix (see Noble Phantasm). His fights against Rome led Asterix, Obelix and their small dog Ideefix through India, Hispania, Britain, Egypt, Helvetia, Corsica, Greece, and even a proto Columbian transoceanic detour into America.
He is a Saber because he carries a small sword around, but in truth he doesn't use it a lot and he prefers fighting with his bare fists.
Class Skills:
Riding: B
Saber can ride chariots, horses and camels. He is also good with boats, with the caveat that if he is forced to board a ship against his will, it will be sunk eventually. This happens very fast in the case Saber sets foot on pirate ships, and Pirate Servants lose the Bravery skill against him. Instinctively, all pirates recognize him as a bane to their kind.
After some initial perplexity, modern land vehicles are manageable as well.
Saber cannot ride dragons or phantasmal beasts.
Magic Resistance: C
Saber was a skeptic, and when faced with the supernatural, his first instinct was to look for a rational explanation for it. He usually was right. In a Grail War where everyone comes from a real place of magic, this may be a disadvantage at times, but it also makes Saber deal slightly augmented damage against oppoments with high degrees of Mystery.
The skill shoots up to EX when the enemy is a mage from Italian or Roman birth (see Vow to Toutatis below). They become unable to cast magic in Saber's presence, even if it is divine magic or it was conceived in the Era of Gods.
Saber is too clever to be manipulated by any hypnotic magic.
Personal Skills:
Trickster: A
While his confidence can make him come across as detached from reality and very quirky, he is smartly aware of the intentions of others. He can read situations and calculate his chances for success when faced with any difficult obstacles. He is quick witted, and can make solutions on the fly.
A master of improvisation, he will appear to be naive and gullible, just so others take him for granted or underestimate him. He sees chances as soon as they can be seized.
Sharp tongued and convincing in his arguments, he only runs into walls when he has to deal with very actually dull persons, the kind who cannot be led astray by anything but raw force.
Saber is not all that good at debating against women either, and prefers to flee from confrontations with females when it is possible.
Vow to Toutatis: A+
The Gaul sociocultural equivalent of Boudica's Vow to the Goddess. Like it, this grants a plus modifier to attacks against opponents one has determined as an enemy that they must triumph over. Which means, Romans.
All Servants that have been born in Italy, and those inhabiting Italian bodies, lose composure and feel intimidated at the sight of Saber. The only exception is Julius Caesar himself, who faced him several times in his lifetime. Servants coming from Italian bloodlines but who were born elsewhere are not subjected to the handicap.
Ironically, Romulus is three times as vulnerable as the rest of Heroic Spirits from Rome.
Since Saber and his village were reasonably successful holding the Romans back longer than Boudica did, the rank of the skill is higher compared to Boudica's.
Bravery: A
His valor makes him capable of shaking off mental influences and attempts to unerve him. Saber doesn't falter under pressure, and if he fails at first, he will look for ways around whatever is standing in his path.
Saber will charge alone at whole armies. He can mock and defy men four times bigger than him. If he is captured, he will keep good spirits until he can plan an escape.
Noble Phantasm:
Magic Potion- Secret of the Druids: A
This Noble Phantasm manifests itself as a small flask in Saber's hand. He drinks from it and gains one hour of A+ ranked Strenght and A ranked Agility and velocity. Injuries are healed in the act and mana reserves are replenished.
This drink was an invention of druid Panoramix, as noted in the bibliography, and only he ever knew the secret of its formula. It allowed the Gauls to stand their ground for decades against a highly superior army, turning them into living machines of combat. It doesn't make anyone smarter but Saber has lots of intelligence as it is.
The potion can be shared with up to 5 allies at a time, whether Servants or humans, but it only can be drank once a day. If anyone drinks too much from it they will be turned into stone statues.
Even before swallowing the potion, Saber is remarkably small for a man so diminutive.
Summoning: "Howdy! My name is Saber! Yes, Servant Saber! I heard you were looking for a freedom fighter!"
Start of Battle:
"They aren't Romans but they'll have to suffice!"
"I was expecting more from you guys!"
"We can work with this!"
"Nothing like a good fight to start your day!"
"War is a serious thing, not a game. But this can't be called war!"
Attack:
"There it goes!"
"Coming thru!"
"Excuse me, step aside!"
"You know what they say about the path to Rome!"
"We French aren't rude!"
Damage:
"You got spunk!"
"I felt that!"
"I need potion!"
"Yeow!"
"Oof!"
Victory:
"These Servants are crazy!"
"Now, let's have a big feast under the stars!"
"The battle's over but not the war! Rome wasn't destroyed in a day!"
"See? It wasn't war! Just a mismatch!"
"This would be more fun with Obelix around..."
Defeat:
"By Toutatis and Belenos!"
"The sky is falling!"
"I miss Obelix..."
Defeat by Noble Phantasm:
"Gaul falls again! But I don't have any shields to give."
Noble Phantasm Activation: "O Druid Panoramix, give us your strength! Thanks for the magical potion!"
Extra Dialogue:
"This can't be Queen Cleopatra. What happened to her beautiful nose?" (When you have Assassin Cleopatra).
"That can't be Julie either! Come on, Master! If you want to play jokes on me, find better actors!" (When you have Saber Julius Caesar).
"Oh, how wonderful! This village also has a druid after all!" (When you have Caster Cu Chulainn).
"Of course I've met Corsicans before! But you don't act like they used to. Is this what they call culture drift? Scary!" (When you have Archer Napoleon Bonaparte).
"A prince of the Britons, I see.. Well, you speak our language admirably!" (When you have Lancer or Saber Astolfo).
"Gulp! M-Master, I... I... I don't know how to approach her... You'll think I'm being dumb, but..." (When you have Lancer Bradamante).
Birthday: "Your birthday! O joyous day! You should have told me before! I'd have given you a gift! See, when the Chief had his... I don't remember the number, but in one of his birthdays... I went to the future and brought football to him as a gift! Yes, serious!"
Event: "That's sure to devolve into a big fight! Let's go!"
Holy Grail: "Alesia! Let's undo Alesia!"
To be Continued.
