Welcome back to The Injustice Wars. Last time, things really took a turn for the worst, as Darkblood managed to corrupt Doctor Fate somehow. Not even wanting to try and chance that, Blaze and company made the smart move and evacuated straight away. But just as they do, Darkblood makes plans to unleash the corrupted Doctor Fate on a location only he knows. But we're not dealing with that right now, we've got other things to do. What exactly? Read on to discover...
(Our story resumes in Legion HQ, where Blaze and her away team are basically licking their wounds after everything that just happened at The Nameless City)
Zatanna: Well, that could have gone much better.
John Constantine: I'd argue that's the understatement of all eternity, Z.
Blaze: Don't be too down, all hope is not lost. I've seen this corruption stuff before. I can talk with Drago's parents, they'll know how to undo this, I'm sure.
John Constantine: Well, there's one thing you'll have to do this without.
Blaze: (Unsure) What would that be?
John Constantine: Me.
Zatanna: John, you can't be serious. With Fate in enemy hands and the Phantom Stranger long dead, you're the strongest mage in the world!
John Constantine: I'm also a father, Z. A father who's sick of being dragged back into this bloody nonsense every time the world goes to pot. The favor Fate called in was to help with this mission. He never said it had to be successful. So I'm going to do what I should have done ages ago. I'm getting out of this. For good this time.
Zatanna: John, please.
Raiden: It seems there is no convincing him.
John Constantine: The Thunder God is right.
(With that, John Constantine casts a portal back to where his family is hiding)
John Constantine: I'd say it's been fun, but it really hasn't.
(And with that, John Constantine lights a cigarette and steps through the portal, closing it behind him, disappearing for good)
Hellboy: On a scale of 1 to FUBAR, how screwed are we without that guy?
Zatanna: FUBAR doesn't even cover it, Anang Un Rama.
Hellboy: How does everybody know my goddamn name around here?!
Blaze: Belial told us. Well, most of us.
Hellboy: Remind me to relocate his nose to the side of his head for that.
(Just as the group realizes what is going to happen, the sound of the Javelin 7 landing can be heard, and shortly there after Shade and Green Lantern enter the room)
Green Lantern: (Holding the intel on Captain Avarice) Score one for the good guys! (Looks at the rest of the team) What's with all the long faces?
Shade: Hal, let me handle this. (To Blaze) I'm guessing Doctor Fate screwed you over again?
Blaze: Surprisingly, no. We lost him though.
Shade: You don't mean...
Blaze: No, Kent's not dead, he's just been corrupted by Darkblood.
Green Lantern: He did what?!
Blaze: Doctor Fate is now one of Darkblood's minions.
Green Lantern: Okay, this is definitely FUBAR.
Hellboy: Apparently that doesn't even begin to cover it.
Blaze: And that's not even the worst of it. Etrigan's dead.
Shade: Etrigan was involved?
Blaze: Kent called him in.
Shade: I... there are no words. I know how close you and the Rhyming Demon were.
Blaze: (Gets up) I won't let his death be in vain.
Shade: Where are you going?
Blaze: To talk with Drago's parents. If anyone can help us restore Kent, it's them.
(As Blaze walks off to speak with Spyro and Cynder, we transition back to The Nameless City, where we see Darkblood is readying the corrupted Doctor Fate to destroy some place)
Darkblood: Well, our new toy soldier is ready to go. Anybody else want to join me?
Enchantress: I don't want to third wheel your fun, honey. Raven and Frost are with me on that. We'll keep the place warm while you're gone.
Darkblood: You're too good to me.
(Just as Darkblood locks lips with Enchantress, the room shakes as the ceiling breaks, revealing, of all people, Atrocitus and a handful of Red Lanterns)
Darkblood: Are you kidding me with the ceiling?! Do you have any idea how expensive that is to fix?!
Atrocitus: You have more pressing issues than a broken ceiling.
Darkblood: Then make your point. I've got travel plans starting in a few minutes.
Zilius Zox: Do not try to rush Atrocitus!
Darkblood: If you don't get to the point I'm going to use you as a volleyball.
Atrocitus: Very well then. I do believe we have a common enemy.
Darkblood: I have a lot of enemies.
Atrocitus: How many are orange dragons?
Darkblood: (Realizing who he's talking about) You've got my interest.
Atrocitus: She sent her forces to violate the sanctity of our home world, Ysmault.
Darkblood: And that's my problem why?
Atrocitus: It was to gather information on one of yours. The pirate.
Darkblood: So now they know everything about Avarice.
Atrocitus: Pretty much.
Darkblood: Now, why does this bring you here?
Atrocitus: I'd like to propose an alliance. You will have the might of the Red Lantern Corps on your side.
Darkblood: Then what do you get out of this?
Atrocitus: A new recruit.
Darkblood: You expect me to join your little Corps? Good luck with that.
Atrocitus: As a reservist, nothing more.
Darkblood: What would that entail?
Atrocitus: One task from me a week.
Darkblood: Make it a month and you've got a deal.
Atrocitus: Very well then.
(And with that, the two shake on their new alliance)
Darkblood: This is the beginning of a beautiful friendship, I'm thinking.
(And as the dark alliance forms, our scene ends for today)
And that looks like a good place to end for today. Admittedly, I don't have much to say with this one. But, this is at least the basics of the beginning of the relationship between Darkblood and the Red Lanterns. More will come from this later, I assure you. But for now, I'm glad to call these two missions finally over. Next time, we start something new, something I've been figuring out how to cover for some time, but I finally found one. What is it? Tune in next time to find out! Same time... same channel!
