Midori-ko could hear her heart beat in her ears and her insides were burning as she lead Goku to the highest room in her castle.
Midori-ko didn't know how she was going to come up with the words to tell Goku the truth about why she left the lookout.
There was a small attic that was almost completely closed off from the rest of the house.
" We'll be able to talk with no interruptions up here." Midori-ko opened the attic door that had a flight of stairs leading to the warm a dusty attic.
They stood together for a moment before Midori-ko let go of Goku's hand and sat down on a box.
" What was Fortuneteller Baba going on about?" Goku asks
" Goku." Midori-ko looks down
" She said something about a prediction." Goku paced " And earlier you were saying the last conversation you had with Baba was a bad one." Goku repeats
" Yeah." Midori-ko sighs this was the last thing she wanted to do right now. But she could no longer keep it from Goku.
" It was right before I left the lookout for good." Midori-ko says, she couldn't look at Goku
" I remember." Goku's tone deepens
"Well the day before I left the lookout those many years ago Goku I went and got a reading from fortuneteller Baba." She wringed her hands together
" You paid the old crone for a reading?" Goku asks"You know you could have fought in her tournament." Goku mentions
" That wasn't on my mind." Midori-ko says still looking down "The time we spent together on the lookout was probably the best part of my life and I never wanted that to stop." Midori-ko says
" Yeah I didn't either." Goku crossed his arms
" I couldn't come up with a way to get out of marrying Kaname without killing him or etc so I went and saw fortuneteller Baba to find out if it was even possible for us to get married." Midori-ko swallows feeling a lump in her throat
" But I was the one trying to find a way so you didn't have to marry Kaname." Goku states
" I know." Midori-ko exhales "But I was trying to help."
" Well it doesn't sound like it was very helpful." Goku points out
"No no it wasn't." Midori-ko hunches her shoulders
" What did fortuneteller Baba tell you?" Goku asks "Instead of telling me a story I want to know what she told you."
"Son Goku will become the greatest warrior in his time and will be celebrated as a hero not only in our universe but several others as well." Midori-ko repeats the words that haunted her dreams
"Wow she already knew that?" Goku smiles
"Son Goku will save the world three no five times he will climb in strength and just keep breaking barriers until he's even stronger." Midori-ko adds clearly lost in thought
" Midori-ko?" Goku sits with her
"Son Goku will never be able to full fill his destiny if he marries you." Midori-ko repeats the words that broke her heart causing tears to build in her eyes
" That's what Baba told you?" Goku grabs Midori-ko's hand
" Yeah." Midori-ko shook with tears "I couldn't take from you." She closed her eyes feeling a tension behind her eyes
" You left me because of what Baba said?" Goku's voice was soft
" The whole reason you were training with Kami was to defeat Piccolo Jr and save the world." Midori-ko reminds him
" Well yeah but..."" You told me something once that stuck with me." Midori-ko looks up at him
" What?" Goku asks
"My training here is more important than anything I'll probably ever do." Midori-ko repeats his words
" You remembered that?" Goku's eyes widened
" It's my dragon brain." She holds her forehead "We have eidetic memory."
" What's that mean?" Goku tilts his head
" Uhh." Midori-ko looks at Goku and smiles he was still the carefree soul she fell in love with "It's basically photographic memory but stronger." Midori-ko tells Goku
" Oh wow." Goku blinks
" It broke my heart but I couldn't get in the way of your dream." Midori-ko looks down against
" Why didn't you just tell me?" Goku holds their hands together " I would have overcome that prediction if it meant that I got to be with you in the end."
" I...I'm sorry I ruined everything." Midori-ko leans into Goku
" Midori-ko." Goku pats her back
" I couldn't interfere in your destiny so I left." Midori-ko clinged to him
" But I'm still ended up as the greatest martial artist on earth." Goku smiles
" Goku we don't know what would have happened if I hadn't left the lookout." Midori-ko tells him
" I know you're right." Goku holds her closer "From now on let's not keep secrets okay?"
" Agreed." Midori-ko says " You were brilliant by the way." Midori-ko smiles thinking about the 23rd World Martial Arts Tournament
" Huh?"
" I was at the World Martial Arts Tournament to watch you." Midori-ko tells Goku
" I knew that was you." Goku chuckles
" Heh yeah." She says " I didn't know if I'd ever see you again."
" But here I am." Goku leans back to look Midori-ko in the eyes
" You're an angel." Midori-ko smiles
" Nah I'm just me." Goku smiles back getting them both to laugh and hug each other
" You hungry big stuff?" Midori-ko asks
" Uh yeah." Goku smiles
--
" Well I best be off." Fortuneteller Baba said at the end of the night
" Thank you for visiting Baba." Goku thanks her
" Yeah yeah sure." She waved her hand "I wish you two the best of luck." Baba smiles at Goku and Midori-ko.
They were both walking Fortuneteller Baba out they hadn't stopped holding hands the entire night.
" Thanks." Goku says
" You know...no nevermind." Baba stops
" What?" Goku asks
" If I may your highness, can I borrow Goku for a moment?" Baba asks
" Sure." Midori-ko nods
Goku and fortuneteller Baba stepped just outside.
Midori-ko watched as fortuneteller Baba spoke with Goku, it looked like a serious conversation.
Midori-ko waited for Goku to come back inside when he returns to inside the Goku's expression was completely dampened.
" What was that about?" Midori-ko asks
" I don't want to say." Goku keeps his eyes on the ground
" Goku." Midori-ko walks up to him "We said no secrets."
" Chi-Chi's sick." Goku looks away from Midori-ko "She has a doctor's appointment tomorrow."
" Oh."
" I'm sorry I still...""Do you want to go be with her?" Midori-ko asks
" I only get one day pass and I need to save it for something really important." Goku clenched his fists
" Goku if you need to...""No I'm not going back to Earth, but I'm still worried sick about Chi-Chi." Goku says
" I understand." Midori-ko sighs
" I think I need to be alone." Goku walks away from Midori-ko
