"We're ninja," Kankuro finally voiced when he felt as though he couldn't breathe. What Suna was going to do wasn't unusual, but to disappoint Kagome still unsettled him, "it's what we do."

"Temari doesn't think you'll all make it out alive," confessed Kagome, and the panic and terror cleaved through him, crystallizing his blood into stone.

"Is that what she told you?" he whispered.

"She didn't have too," admitted Kagome before she finally, finally, turned away from him and back towards her lap.

"Why are you telling me this?" Kankuro burst out, because Kagome couldn't just be being intentionally cruel.
