It was the night of the Team's departure that found Kagome sitting beside Gaara on the edge of Baki's apartment building's roof. Gaara's eyes trailed the hurried footsteps of the Villagers below while Kagome's were locked on the Constellations above.
Gaara gave no indication he noticed Kagome's presence except for the occasional shifting of his position that brought his Sand protected skin into almost contact with the sleeves on her arm.
Gaara marveled at the sinking of his stomach at the miss of contact. The irritating glances of almost contact causing him to contemplate what skin contact might feel like.
