Gaara watched blankly as the battles began. He was finding that so long as he didn't think, didn't move, barely breathed he could have some semblance of peace, a small corner of his besieged mind, all to himself. He did not understand why the pain would not go away, but any attempt he had to grasp the situation slipped away like sand through fingers.
Gaara wished he could say he did not like it. But he could hardly remember his name and his siblings now a days. Something was wrong, he instinctually understood, but he didn't care to ponder what.
