Chapter 259: Junket
n. a trip, as by an official or legislative committee, paid out of public funds and ostensibly to obtain information.
Disclaimer: I do not own that which belongs to another.
The trip out to Konoha had been long and harrowing. They had to travel over well-worn roads, where rain and wagons had worn away various parts of the path and left the road looking something reminiscent of a ribcage. The roads reminded Kagome of the roads of the Feudal Era the closer they got to Konoha, it didn't fail to gain a small smile from Kagome as the memories pervaded.
The party moved slowly, and Kagome thought that the Company of ninja guards to protect the Village's Leaders and diplomats was perhaps a little overkill. The Kage himself wasn't leaving Suna for another three days but Kagome had been sent ahead with the slower party to make arrangements for the Kage's stay. Kagome wondered if that meant more than checking out the guestrooms that the Hokage had set aside for the visiting envoys. Sometimes Kagome didn't understand the Kazekage.
Kagome shouldered her yellow pack higher on her shoulders, her eyes cast towards the approaching walls of Konoha. Her reason for taking this horrid job was just ahead. She didn't care what would happen next, she was prepared for anything, including fighting a war to save her friends, her new family.
