Kagome tugged her hand through her mused hair in agitation. Something was wrong with her friends, and she was certain that it centered on the same reason that Gaara was spending his days in a forest rather than with his family. She just had no idea what would have set them against each other in such a way.

Of course she knew that the siblings didn't get along. In fact a few months ago Kagome would have said that Kankuro and Temari had been terrified of their younger brother, which Kagome could not understand. Sure their younger brother was unusually strong but even Kagome knew at first sight that Gaara treasured his family. Perhaps not in the way he should, since he seemed to treasure his siblings more for the freedom they gave him, they acted like a smokescreen that he could hide himself behind and gave him a freedom that hadn't been allotted to him before.

In the few months that Kagome had known them, their relationship had only become stronger, to the point that Gaara was truly on his way to respecting if not loving his siblings. Kankuro in turn started to relax and Temari started sincerely smiling.
