"It's a seal from a Shrine," explained Jiraiya. Kakashi felt his eyebrows furrow as he looked at the seal upside down from where Jiraiya had been examining it. Kakashi had thought that the style had been familiar but he hadn't been able to place where.
"What kind of Shrine would go around putting up seals?" asked Kakashi, gently extracting the seal from Jiraiya's hand when it became obvious that Jiraiya was done with his initial assessment.
"I didn't say a Shrine was the culprit, but it was probably someone who frequented the Shrine, or worked there, there isn't a Shrine in all of Fire Country that makes these seals anyway," answered Jiraiya, nodding towards the seal Kakashi held, "the only place that I've ever seen a sealing style like this is Wave Country, but their seals are different to this one. The Shrine's there do not put chakra into their seals, they don't have a matrix to convert the seal into anything powerful. It's mostly just pieces of scripture or symbols placed on rice paper to remind the holder of the area's Kamis and to turn towards their religion in the face of adversity. It's a beautifully simple practice, really."
