After a little bit of time, Bella exited the bedroom and Alice had returned. I was standing next to the pixie-like Vampire, who was gripping the desk with paler knuckles than usual. "Alice?" Bella questioned.
"Alice?" I asked softly. "Do you need a paper?"
"Alice!" Jasper gasped as he blurred over to Alice's side. "What is it?" The door closed with a click that seemed to echo through the room. Alice moved, slowly turning into Jasper's chest.
"Bella…" Alice trailed off.
"I'm right here." Bella spoke up. Alice's head snapped over to Bella, a blank look on her face, but her eyes were unfocused. "What did you see?" Bella's voice was flat, it was uncanny and it didn't suit her. Jasper turned to Bella sharply, and his confused eyes flicked between the three of us.
"Nothing, really." Alice said calmly. "Just the same room as before." Alice's focused on Bella. "Did you want breakfast?"
"No, I'll eat at the airport." I watched helplessly as Bella robotically packed her things. I pulled my hair into a tight braid, ready for battle if one should arise. We were out of the room by seven. Bella and I were in the back again, but Bella was pressed against the door opposite to me. "Alice?"
'Yes?"
"How does it work? The things you see?" I looked over at her. She was staring out the window, and she sounded uninterested. "Edward said it wasn't definite...that things change?"
"Yes, things change." Alice said lightly. "Some things are more certain than others...like the weather. People are harder. I only see the course they're on while they're on it. Once they change their minds, make a new decision, no matter how small, the whole future shifts." Bella nodded.
"So you couldn't see James in Phoenix until he decided to come here."
"Yes." That was the end of the conversation for the rest of the car ride. Edward, Carlisle and Emmett would be arriving in Terminal 4. We parked on the fourth floor, following Bella down to the third level where the passengers would disembark. I felt a hand on my shoulder, and turned to Bella who offered me an unmarked envelope.
"My letter." She told me. I nodded, taking it from her.
"I'll make sure Renée gets it." I promised. I slipped it into my inside jacket pocket. The plane's arrival time got closer and closer. We offered to go get breakfast for Bella, but she always said later. Bella then suddenly stood, words leaving her mouth quickly.
"I think I'll eat now." I blinked as Alice stood.
"I'll come with you." Alice said.
"Do you mind if Jasper comes instead?" Bella asked. "I'm feeling a little…" I could see in Bella's eyes she was frazzled. Jasper stood instead as Alice settled in next to me. I reached across the handle and took Alice's hand, giving it a gentle squeeze. The two of them left, and it wasn't five minutes later when Jasper appeared again...without Bella. I stood, meeting him halfway with Alice beside me.
"I don't know where she is." Jasper muttered rapidly as he turned on his heel to lead us. Jasper led us to a bathroom, and my nose instantly caught onto Bella's scent. I walked inside, following my sister's movements until I reached the taxi pickup. If I had a heart, it would be thumping in my chest and my blood would be rushing through my veins. I slowly made my way back to Alice and Jasper.
"She's gone." I told them slowly. I then blinked, remembering the paper in my jacket. I scrambled to take it out of it's pockets. I stared at the envelope, ripping it open and scanning the words. James had Renée, and Bella went to confront him. My fingers gripped the paper so hard it crumpled slightly as we entered the airport again. The three of us hid in the shadows of a pillar in the atrium area of the airport. I saw Edward, Carlisle and Emmett practically running up to us.
"Why didn't you go after her?" Edward hissed.
"What's happened, Alice?" Carlisle asked calmly. We were already heading to the garage, moving at a rapid speed but not so quick that we garnered suspicion. I handed the folded note to Carlisle. He scanned it before handing it to Edward. Edward crumpled the paper and shoved it into his pocket.
"Her mother?"
"I haven't seen her." Alice said. "She won't be in the room. He may have already…"
"There's no time for that, Alice." Carlisle reminded her softly.
"Do we know where we're going?" Edward asked.
"Yes." I answered as we moved. "I remember where it was from fixing Renée's memories." We headed through baggage claim, and we soon came to an empty stairwell. We blurred up them and was in the garage. Alice caught Jasper's arm before he could go.
"Whatever car we take, the Police are going to be searching for it's owners." Alice stated. I followed after Edward as he hurried to find a car. Just as Edward was trying to decide on a car, he stopped, heading to the end of the garage where there was a pimped out car that was so far away from the elevators that no one would scratch the paint. It was...horrid, to say the least, but it was the best maintained car in the lot. Alice appeared beside us with someone's broken off antenna in her hand, flattened in between her fingers to form a hook at the other end. She broke into the car just as the other's appeared. Edward took the front seat while I took the passenger one. Edward rapidly hotwired the car and in under three minutes, we were practically speeding out of the spot. We waited impatiently for the ticket reader, and once the bar was up, Edward peeled out of the parking lot. Edward sped through the Arizona sun, the speedometer climbing higher and higher. The world flew by our windows as Edward drove. The rest of the drive was a jumble in my head, we switched cars under an underpass (knocking out the owner of the SUV), tossed the old car into the upcoming traffic, avoided the police and then sped off in the new SUV. We made wide and sharp turns and dodged everything that came close. My ears picked up the conversation when we neared the Ballet Studio. "Jasper!" Alice hissed. "You cut around the building and go through the front with Alec, the rest of us go through the back. Carlisle, get ready." I nodded shakily, mentally gearing myself for the fight. Jasper and I lept out of the car, racing around to burst through the front of the studio and it hit us as soon as we stepped through the door.
Blood.
And lots of it.
