Chapter Seventeen
"Come on wake up." Sonic anxiously thought as he kept glancing at the clock then back at Shadow then back at the clock again, going back to Shadow once more.
He was becoming an emotional wreck while waiting for something to happen and then it did. Shadow groaned and slowly began to open his eyes. They became focused on Sonic as Shadow began to process where he was.
"Shadow." Sonic seriously said while slightly narrowing his eyes down at the one he was so angry with yet so relieved and happy all at the same time, yeah emotional wreck.
Shadow slowly sat up as his eyes were frozen on Sonics, tears gathered in them until there wasn't enough room for them to stay so they fell silently down. Sonic lost all anger as he looked at Shadows sad broken expression and he instantly felt sad, drooping his ears a little and uncrossing his arms.
"I-I..." Shadow said with a sniffle then slowly began to sob uncontrollably.
Sonic sighed then moved closer to Shadow, sat on the edge then brought the crying hedgehog into a secure embrace.
"What you have been doing was so damn reckless Shads, you could have ended up in a very long coma and for what? They are gone Shadow ok and I am so sorry but they are never coming back. No matter what you do, they are gone." Sonic sincerely said in a gentle voice as he moved a hand to run fingers through Shadow's quills repeatedly.
"I-I want them back." Shadow cried out as he buried his face in the crook of Sonic's neck, wrapping his arms around Sonic tightly as his tears kept coming.
He was finally letting all of his pent up emotions out, finally allowing himself to grieve for his losses and finally realising doing all this was an ok thing for him to do.
"I know you do Shadow, everyone wants their loved ones back, it's only natural to want them with you forever. But you need to learn to let go, you need to allow yourself to move on or you will destroy yourself and never overcome your loss." Sonic said as he kept up his actions as it seemed to be calming Shadow down a little.
"I...I just wanted them back so badly, I just wanted to be with them and to live the life that was stolen from me, from us. I only wanted to be happy and be at peace once more. I am never going to see dad and Maria again." Shadow sobbed as this fact was hurting him much more now, he was stuck on this planet, living his life without them both being apart of it.
"Shh, let it all out Shadow. I promise you will start to feel better ok." Sonic sadly said as he comforted Shadow, scraping his confession for he was sure Shadow didn't care for him in that way.
After a good five minutes Shadows cries died down, the tears stopped falling but the hug remained for Shadow didn't want to let Sonic go. Shadow moved his head slightly so he could look up into Sonic's eyes and that movement didn't go unnoticed. Sonic glanced down to see what Shadow was doing, thinking that maybe Shadow was getting ready to break their hug. The two locked eyes and both began to smile softly at one another.
"I love you." Shadow whispered calmly while gazing into Sonic's warm and welcoming eyes.
"Would that be friendship love or like boyfriend love? Please let it be the latter." Sonic thought as he tried to keep it cool and remain calm.
This moment did not need to be ruined by him being all nervous and jittery.
"I love you too Shads." Sonic whispered back with a loving expression down at Shadow.
"More than a friend." Shadow quietly said as he closed his eyes half shut.
"Oh my gosh, oh my gosh, oh my gosh! Ok play this cool Sonic and don't screw it up." Sonic screamed in his head then copied Shadows expression.
"More than life itself and I always will Shads." Sonic softly whispered as he ran fingers through Shadow's quills.
"Well this looks very cosy." Rouge called out with amusement, walking into the bedroom with a grin and stopping right near the hedgehogs.
Shadow rolled his eyes and finally broke the hug. He sat up and looked at Rouge with a guilty expression.
"I'm sorry for worrying you and for taking more than I should. I betrayed your trust, lied to you and in a way threatened you. I completely understand if you never want to see or talk to me again and I will keep my distance from you if that is what you wish." Shadow sadly said as he bowed his head in shame, unable to even look the bat in the eyes.
"I get it Shadow, I understand why you did what you did and to be totally honest with you, I'd probably have done the same thing. That doesn't mean I am not upset with you but I understand. It also means I'll be popping in on you every day to see how my favourite hedgie is doing." Rouge calmly said then winked at Shadow after talking for Shadow had lifted his head up half way through.
"Yeah and I'm spending the night to make sure you are alright Shads." Sonic said with a grin and also winked at Shadow as he turned his head to look at him.
"I do not deserve you both and you both deserve better than me." Shadow whispered sadly as he turned his head to look away, expressing depression and guilt.
"Yeah maybe but I wouldn't trade you in for all the chilly dogs in the universe." Sonic softly said as he placed a hand on Shadow's cheek and moved Shadow's head gently so eye contact could happen.
"That's right hun not even the fanciest most beautiful looking gem would ever compare to you Shadow. You mean a lot to us and we value you all the same. So with that said let's just forgive and forget, move on and help each other out. You can both start by expressing your love for one another and becoming boyfriends." Rouge sincerely agreed with Sonic but her tune soon turned playful as she openly spoke out loud about the two and what they should now do.
Both looked at her with wide shocked eyes and Sonic's hand slipped from Shadow's face.
"I meant kiss not sex...man you boys sure have dirty minds but I mean if that is what you both wanna do together in my presence then by all means don't mind me." Rouge corrected their thoughts then slowly began to grin deviously as she teased the two.
"No!" Both hedgehogs shouted then looked at one another with nervous expression.
"Er I mean we're not at that stage yet." Sonic said as he chuckled nervously.
"Er yeah I am in total agreement with that but, that kiss sounds nice though." Shadow said then slowly began to smirk flirtatiously at Sonic.
"I'll leave you boys to it and I'll see you tomorrow morning ok." Rouge said with amusement then walked out of the room.
"Yeah it kind of does." Sonic smiled softly then lent forward towards Shadow.
Shadow moved towards Sonic then when their lips connect he wrapped his arms around Sonic and pulled him on top of himself as he laid back down. Sonic gave a muffled cry of surprise and broke the connection when he found himself on top of Shadow.
"Well take the lead or I will." Shadow softly spoke with mischief sparkling in his red eyes while they were locked onto Sonic's surprised green ones.
Sonic soon began to grin then lowered his head until their lips almost touched.
"In that case I better make sure this kiss is amazing for you or I might never get to lead again." Sonic purred a little seductively then closed the inch gab between them.
