Starter Pokemon
As the Eds enter the classroom, they hear someone calling to them.
"Ed, Edd, Eddy." someone called out to them. They look down the hallway from the classroom door to see Mr. Clavell walking over to them.
"What is it, Mr. Clavell?" asked Edd. Mr. Clavell looks over at Mr. Jacq.
"Excuse me, Mr. Jacq, but I need to talk to these three boys." said Mr. Clavell.
"Sure, Mr. Clavell." replied Mr. Jacq. Mr. Clavell turns to the Eds.
"I need to three to come with me to my office." said Mr. Clavell. Edd glares at Ed and Eddy.
"What did you two do?" asked Edd.
"We didn't do anything, Double D...I think." said Eddy.
"I don't remember." said Ed. The Eds follow Mr. Clavell until they got to his office.
"Is there something wrong, Mr. Clavell?" asked Edd.
"Yes, but you three didn't do anything wrong?" said Mr. Clavell.
"Wow. That's the first time I've heard someone say that." replied Edd.
"Anyway, I brought you three here because I forgot to give each of you three your first Pokemon on the day you arrived here." said Mr. Clavell.
"You're giving us Pokemon?" asked Ed, excitedly.
"Yes. I was helping you boys get settled in here that it slipped my mind." said Mr. Clavell. "So, I hope you accept my apology."
"That's okay. I forget stuff a lot." said Ed. Mr. Clavell pulls three pokeballs out of his belt and throws them, releasing three Pokemon. The first was a cat-like Pokemon with pale green fur, the second was a red and white crocodilian Pokemon, and the third was a white, duckling-like Pokemon. "Cool." Mr. Clavell points at the green cat Pokemon.
"This is a Sprigatito, a grass type Pokemon." said Mr. Clavell. He then points at the red, crocodilian Pokemon. "This is Fuecoco, a fire type Pokemon." And finally, he points at the white, duckling Pokemon. "And this is Quaxly, a water type." Mr. Clavell then looks at the Eds. "You may each pick one Pokemon." Ed runs over to Sprigatito, picks it up, and begins stroking its fur, gently.
"Pet the kitty, Pet the kitty." said Ed. Sprigatito purrs and nuzzles Ed.
"I see you want Sprigatito, Ed, and I can tell Sprigatito already likes you." said Mr. Clavell. Edd walks over to Quaxly.
"I've spent the weekend studying up on Pokemon, and I seem to recall Quaxlies are tidy Pokemon, which sounds like my type of Pokemon, so I select Quaxly." said Edd. Quaxly walks over to Edd, who kneels down and pets its head.
"So I guess that means I get this one." said Eddy, pointing at Fuecoco. Fuecoco walks over to Eddy. Mr. Clavell gives the Eds their respective Pokemon's pokeballs.
"Now to return your Pokemon to their pokeballs, you simply point the button on the pokeball at your Pokemon and it will return inside it." said Mr. Clavell. Edd points the button of Quaxly's pokeball at it. A red beam of light shoots out of the button of the pokeball and onto Quaxly. It turns into red light, and it gets sucked into the pokeball.
"Remarkable." said Edd. Ed and Eddy do the same to their Pokmeon.
"And as I showed you, to let a Pokemon out of its pokeball, you simply throw it." said Mr. Clavell.
"We will be sure to remember that." said Edd.
"Okay, boys, now with that settled, I'll return you to your homeroom." said Mr. Clavell. The Eds put their pokeballs in their pockets and they follow Mr. Clavell back to Mr. Jacq's classroom. As the next three months went by; the Eds put all their focus into studying everything they could about Pokemon. Ed and Edd were motivated by their interest in Pokemon, Eddy was motivated by the money he imagined he could make as a trainer. They spent all their free time with their Pokemon and built strong bonds with them. They kept in contact with their parents, as well as Ed staying in touch with his little sister. He still remembers the first conversation he had with her.
(Flashback)
It was the day after he first arrived in Paldea and he got Sprigatito. He called his family on the Rotom Phone after his first class with Mr. Jacq as a welcome to Paldea. He decided to try out his new Rotom Phone to call his parents through video chat, but instead of his mother or father answering, it has his nasty little sister, Sarah.
"Ed?! Why are you calling?!" asked Sarah.
"Just wanted to say hi." replied Ed.
"So how are things in Paldea?" asked Sarah, grinning, expecting Ed to cry and beg to come back to Peach Creek, but to Sarah's shock, Ed's reply was the opposite.
"I LOVE IT HERE!" replied Ed.
"What?" said Sarah with disappointment in her voice.
"I love Paldea. There are lots of cool Pokemon here." said Ed.
"Pok'e what?" asked Sarah. Ed takes out Sprigatito's pokeball and tosses it up in the air, releasing Sprigatito and he lands on Ed's shoulder. "What kind of cat is that?"
"This is a Sprigatito, the Grass Cat Pokemon." replied Ed. Sprigatito nuzzles Ed's cheek. Sarah's jaw drops. "There are all sorts of Pokemon here." Ed carries the Rotom Phone around the academy, showing the building to Sarah. She was astounded by how nice the academy looked. She was also shown so many kinds of Pokemon. Some she thought were extremely cute, such as the Teddiursa, the Deerlings, the Pachirisu, and the Bounsweets. Needless to say, Sarah couldn't believe what she saw.
"So, you...like it in Paldea?" asked Sarah.
"I love it here in Paldea. I'm learning so much about Pokemon, I'm actually getting A's and B's on my homework and tests!" Sarah's jaw dropped even lower. Ed looks up at a clock. "Oh, I gotta get to class, Sarah. Tell Mom and Dad I said hi." He disconnects the call. What Ed didn't know was that after he disconnected the call, Sarah fainted.
(End Flashback)
It was after their third month at Uva Academy when Mr. Clavell had an announcement to make. The Eds and their classmates made their way to the schoolyard where they saw Mr. Clavell standing on a small stage.
"What do you think Mr. Clavell wants to tell us, you guys?" asked Ed.
"I haven't the foggiest idea, Ed. But I suppose we should wait and find out." said Edd. Mr. Clavell walks up to a microphone.
"Excellent. It seems everyone is here. Well then, I think it's time I explained your indepentent study assignment. As usual, the theme will be 'A Treasure Hunt'!" Eddy ears perked up when he heard the word 'treasure' thinking he would be looking for something valuable. "I ask each of you to set out and travel the world in search of your own treasure. You have all learned much within the walls of our fine academy. But now it's time to open your eyes upon the wider world and deepen your understanding. Explore Paldea's abundant nature, soak in its rich culture, discover the Pokemon that live here and get to know the people, too. Of course, your Pokemon partners will be there to help you. You will journey together, learn new things together, share each other's thoughts and feelings, and find something you might always treasure. Let the Treasure Hunt begin! Onward!" All the students roared with applause. Soon the Eds were heading to their dorm rooms to grab their backpacks and supplies for their journeys. They all met at the long flight of stairs in front of the academy.
"How exciting. Going on an independent study assignment and seeing the entire Paldea region. I can't wait to get started." said Edd.
"Yeah. I can't wait to see all the many kinds of cute and cuddly Pokemon for me to be friends with." said Ed.
"I can't wait to start making money." said Eddy.
"So where should we go first you guys?" asked Ed.
"We should probably start by training our Pokemon. We never had an opportunity to do so because our studies kept us preoccupied." said Edd.
"So where do you think we should go to do that?" asked Eddy. Edd pulls out his Rotom Phone and turns on the map app.
"We should go south of Mesagoza to an area I heard about called Poco Path. It's said that's a good place for beginners to train their Pokemon." said Edd.
"All right, then. Let's go." said Eddy. Edd uses his Rotom Phone to summon a Flying Taxi. A minute later, one landed near where the Eds are, and they climbed into the carriage. Soon, they were up in the air on their way to start their newest Ed-venture.
