Cortondo Gym Battle
The Eds look around Cortondo to try and find where the gym was. As they explored Cortondo, they notice that quite a few houses have in-ground pools in them. A grin suddenly appears on Eddy's face that Edd didn't like.
"Eddy? What are you up to?" asked Edd. Eddy whispers something to Ed that made him chuckle. Edd was starting to get nervous. "Fellows? What are you going to do?" Then without warning, Ed and Eddy run to the nearest pool and each do a cannonball into it. They started cheering with excitement and splashing around which gets the attention of the pool's owner.
"Hey! You two kids get out of my pool!" yelled the owner.
"Run, Lumpy!" said Eddy as he climbs out of the pool.
"Sponge Stampede!" yells Ed as he and Eddy run off with Edd chasing after them. A few minutes later, Edd catches up with Ed and Eddy who were laughing behind a store.
"What is the matter with you two? I thought you came here for a gym battle, Eddy." says Edd. Ed shakes himself dry like a dog, getting water on Edd.
"Why me?" asked Edd.
"Chill out, sockhead. We were just having fun." said Eddy.
"Why is it that every time you have fun we get into trouble?" asked Edd.
"It's a gift." said Eddy.
"More like a curse." said Edd. After they get dried off, they look around for the Pokemon gym.
"So where do I have to go for my gym battle, Double-D?" asked Eddy. Edd looks around and spots a building with a pokeball symbol on it.
"I suppose that could be where you have to go." said Edd.
"Okay then, let's check it out." said Eddy. As they head towards the building, Ed stops and sniffs the air.
"Ed? What's wrong?" asked Edd. All of a sudden, Ed runs off to a small building that was in front of a big tree that had stairs around it leading to a few terraces and a large platform at the top.
"Hey! Where are you going, lumpy?!" yells Eddy as he chases after Ed. Edd sighs in exasperation and follows after them. They soon catch up with Ed who was looking into a display case that had delicious-looking cupcakes inside it while drooling.
"Oh my. These cupcakes do look delicious." said Edd.
"Why thank you young man." said a woman's voice from behind them. They turn to see a woman with teal-colored hair and brown eyes. She wore a chef's outfit with a light gray blouse and matching hat and gloves. She also wore a long brown skirt with matching ascot and an apron with a spider web design on it.
"Hello, madam." said Edd.
"I see your friend seems interested in my cupcakes." said the woman. Edd looks at Ed and notices that he was still drooling.
"I apologize for my friend." said Edd.
"That's quite all right." said the woman.
"So am I to understand that you run this bakery?" asked Edd.
"That's right. I'm the head chef and owner of this bakery which I call the Patisserie Soapberry." said the woman.
"If I may ask, is that building over there where you go to have a gym battle?" asked Edd as he looks towards the building he pointed out earlier.
"Yes, it is." said the woman.
"Sweet!" said Eddy as he runs towards the building.
"Excuse us." said Edd as he grabs Ed by his collar and runs after Eddy. When they get to the building, they enter and go up to the front counter.
"Hey, Eds!" said Nemona. The Eds turn to see Nemona at the front doors.
"Greetings, Nemona." said Edd. She walks over to them.
"So you guys are challenging the gyms?" asked Nemona.
"Actually, only Eddy is doing that." said Edd.
"Oh. Well I'm glad that at least one of you is challenging the gyms." said Nemona.
"You know it. You're looking at the next champion." said Eddy.
"I'd agree if I was looking in a mirror." said Nemona with a smirk.
"Oh, really?" replied Eddy.
"Yep." said Nemona.
"Well, we'll see about that at the Pokemon League, won't we?" said Eddy.
"Yes, we will. Now if you'll excuse me, I'm gonna go train up my Pokemon for a while." said Nemona. "Good luck in your gym battle." She then turns around and exits the building.
"I'll show her who's the better trainer." said Eddy as he turns to the receptionist behind the counter. "I want a gym battle, right now!"
"Very well. I'll need your Rotom Phone so I can check your information first." said the receptionist. Eddy hands the receptionist his Rotom Phone and gets his information checked. Once that was done, the receptionist gives Eddy his Rotom Phone back. "Thank you. But before you can challenge the gym leader, you'll need to pass the Gym Test."
"Test?! No one said anything about a test?!" replied Eddy.
"Not to worry. It's not like a quiz or anything like that." said the receptionist.
"Oh, that's okay then." said Eddy.
"Your test here is The Olive Roll." said the staff member. "Olive production is a big part of life here in Cortondo. We've held the Olive Harvest Festival each year for generations to usher in bumper crops. To pass our Gym Test, you'll need to roll an olive-shaped all the way to the goal. Your effort should help ensure we get a great olive harvest next year too. The staffer over at the olive-rolling field will explain the rules to you boys in further detail. The field is just to the north of town. Now get out there and have some fun."
"Thanks. Let's go, boys." said Eddy. The Eds leave the Pokemon League building and head to the north part of town where they see a fenced-in-area with a large wicker basket on one end of it. Near the entrance was a woman in a blue suit who they assume is the staff member they were told about. They walk up to her, and she looks at the Eds.
"Are you boys here to participate in the Olive Roll?" asked the staff member.
"I am." said Eddy.
"Very well. This Gym Test is all about stamina. You'll need to push with all you've got to get a large olive ball rolling and make it all the way to the end. Get the ball over various obstacles, then push it into the goal to clear the test." said the woman.
"That sounds simple enough, Eddy." said Edd.
"You can do it, Eddy!" said Ed.
"Yeah, yeah. Let's just get started already." said Eddy.
"Great. Put in a wish for a good olive harvest, and roll, roll, roll away." said the woman. Eddy enters the fenced-in-area and climbs up onto a platform near a ramp that had a giant olive-shaped ball on top of a small pedestal. He looks at the course and saw fences everywhere and small ramps. He goes up to the ball and pushes it off and discovers that it was a lot lighter than it looked. Despite it being lighter, maneuvering it was really difficult. It wasn't easy, but Eddy managed to get the ball through the course and into the wicker basket. After he completed the test, confetti came out from each side of the wicker basket signifying that they passed the test.
"Man, pushing that thing was as much of a pain in the neck as Ed's little sister." said Eddy. Ed and Edd walk over to Eddy.
"You did it, Eddy!" said Ed.
"Congratulations." said Edd. The staff member walks over to Eddy.
"With that performance, I'm sure we can look forward to a great olive harvest next year." said the staff member. "I'm happy to declare your Gym Test officially cleared. Congratulations."
"Sweet!" said Eddy.
"Just report to the receptionist back at the Pokemon League building and he'll tell you where to need to go for your gym battle." said the staff member.
"Thank you very much." said Edd.
"Let's go, boys. I have a gym battle to win." said Eddy. They make their way back to the Pokemon League building. Once there, they go in and up to the front counter.
"Hello. I was just notified that you passed your Gym Test." said the receptionist.
"You know it." said Eddy. "So where do I go for my gym battle?"
"Did you see that giant tree across the road from here." said the receptionist.
"You mean the one behind that bakery?" asked Edd.
"Yes. Your gym battle is on the platform at the top of that tree." said the receptionist.
"You heard him, boys. Let's go." said Eddy. They exit the building and go over to the tree with Ed stopping to look at the cupcakes again. After that, they climb up the stairs to the top of the tree where they see a Pokemon battle arena. They also see the bakery owner from earlier there as well, talking to a Vivillon.
"Hello, boys." said the woman.
"Greetings. What are you doing up here? And did you know about this battle arena being behind your bakery?" asked Edd.
"Of course, I do. After all, I am the Cortondo gym leader." said the woman, surprising them.
"You're the gym leader?" replied Edd.
"Oh, I'm sorry. I do believe I forgot to introduce myself. My name is Katy. I'm not only the owner of the Patisserie Soapberry bakery, but I'm also the Cortondo gym leader." said the woman now known as Katy.
"Well allow me to introduce myself then." said Eddy. "I'm Eddy, and I'm the trainer who will be winning this battle." Katy smiles at Eddy.
"Well see about that." said Katy as she walks to an end of the battle arena while Eddy goes to the other end. A referee steps to the center of the battle arena.
"This will be a three-on-three battle between the gym leader, Katy; and the challenger, Eddy. Each side will battle until all three of either trainer's Pokemon become unable to battle. First trainer to defeat all three of the other trainer's Pokemon will be the winner. Let the battle begin." said the referee. He then steps off to the side and Katy pulls a pokeball out of her apron.
"Nymble. I need you, sweetie." said Katy as she releases a dark grayish-blue, grasshopperlike Pokemon. Edd pulls out his Rotom Phone and points it at the new Pokemon.
"Nymble, the Grasshopper Pokemon. It's highly skilled at a fighting style in which it uses its jumping capabilities to dodge incoming attacks while also dealing damage to opponents." said the Rotom Phone.
"A bug Pokemon, huh? Well, I have just the Pokemon for the job." said Eddy as he pulls out a pokeball. "Murkrow, come out!" Eddy throws Murkrow's pokeball and releases him from it.
"Nymble, use Screech!" said Katy. Nymble releases a high-pitched noise that makes Murkrow and the Eds cover their ears, along with lowering Murkrow's defense.
"And I thought Ed's baby sister was loud!" said Eddy. "Murkrow, use WIng Attack!" Murkrow flies at Nymble and strikes it with one of his wings, doing super effective damage.
"Nymble, use Double Kick!" said Katy. Nymble jumps at Murkrow and hits him with two solid kicks.
"Oh yeah?!" replied Eddy. "Murkrow, use Gust!" Murkrow flaps his wings, releasing a strong gust of wind which hits Nymble and sends it flying back to Katy, unconscious.
"Nymble is unable to battle. Murkrow is the winner." said the referee.
Way to go, Murkrow!" said Eddy. Murkrow turns to Eddy and smirks. Katy returns Nymble to its pokeball.
"You did your best, Nymble." said Katy. She puts Nymble's pokeball away and pulls out another one. "Tarountula, come out, sweetie." She throws the pokeball and releases a Tarountula from it. "Tarountula, use String Shot!" Tarountula launches a spray of string from its mouth which wrap around Murkrow, lowering his speed.
"Murkrow! Use Peck!" said Eddy. Murkrow flies at Tarountula and pecks it, doing super effective damage.
"Tarountula, use Bug Bite!" said Katy. Tarountula quickly jumps at Murkrow and bites down on him, doing enough damage thanks to Nymble's Screech weakening his defense earlier to knock him out.
"Murkrow is unable to battle. Tarountula is the winner." said the referee.
"Splendid work, Tarountula." said Katy. Tarountula hops up and down with joy. Eddy returns Murkrow to his pokeball with a frown.
"Don't worry, Eddy. You have two Pokemon you can use." said Edd.
"I know." said Eddy as he puts Murkrow's pokeball away and pulls out another one. "Okay, Crocalor. Let's do this." He throws Crocalor's pokeball and releases him from it. "Okay, Crocalor. Use Incinerate!" Crocalor releases a ball of fire from his mouth, and it hits Tarountula, hitting it and knocking it out.
"Tarountula is unable to battle. Crocalor is the winner." said the referee.
"Oh yeah. Keep it up, Crocalor." said Eddy. Katy returns Tarountula to its pokeball.
"You did your best, sweetie." said Katy. She puts Tarountula's pokeball away and pulls out her last one. "Teddiursa, I need you, sweetie." She throws the pokeball, releasing a bear cublike Pokemon with a crescent moon mark on its head. Edd pulls out his Rotom Phone and points it at the Pokemon.
"Teddiursa, the Little Bear Pokemon. Its paws are soaked in oodles of honey. When nervous, Teddiursa will lick its paws and soon have a smile back on its face." said the Rotom Phone.
"It looks so cuddly!" said Ed.
"Indeed. But I'm confused as to why a gym leader who uses bug type Pokemon would suddenly bring out a Pokemon that wasn't a bug type." Edd wondered. Katy smiles at Edd as she pulls a Tera Orb out of her apron, surprising Edd. "Is that a Tera Orb?"
"Yes, it is." said Katy. She then throws the Tera Orb over Teddiursa and it suddenly becomes engulfed in crystals. The crystals shatter to reveal that Teddiursa's Terastillized and it had insect antennae coming out of its head.
"Is Teddiursa's Tera Form an insect type one?" asked Edd. Katy smiles and nods.
"Teddiursa, use Baby-Doll Eyes!" Teddiursa's eyes widen and sparkle, making Crocalor stare at them with adoration and lowering his defense.
"Come on, Crocalor. Use Tackle!" said Eddy. Crocalor charges at Teddiursa and slams into it, doing only a little bit of damage.
"Teddiursa, use Lick!" said Katy. Teddiursa runs up to Crocalor and licks his face, making him shudder and paralyzing him as well.
"Eddy! Crocalor's paralyzed!" said Edd.
"Hurry, Crocalor! Use Incinerate!" said Eddy. Crocalor tried to do so, but succumbs to paralysis.
"Teddiursa, use Fury Swipes!" said Katy. Teddiursa runs at Crocalor and hits him with a barrage of slashes. Eddy was getting nervous.
"I gotta do something or Crocalor's gonna lose!" said Eddy. He suddenly remembers the Tera Orb he got from Nemona and pulls it out of his pocket, surprising Katy.
"So you have a Tera Orb as well?" asked Katy.
"You know it!" said Eddy. He throws his Tera Orb over Crocalor and he becomes engulfed in crystals. The crystals shatter showing that Crocalor is now in his Tera Form and he had a crystal candelabra over his head. "Crocalor, try using Ember!" This time, Crocalor fights through paralysis and releases powered-up bits of fire at Teddiursa, hitting it and doing super effective damage. Katy was starting to get worried.
"Hurry, Teddiursa! Use Payback!" said Katy. Teddiursa releases streams of dark energy from its body which hit Crocalor.
"Careful, Eddy! Payback does twice as much damage if the Pokemon that used it was just hit by an attack itself!" said Edd. All of a sudden, red energy flared up from Crocalor.
"Hey! What's up with Crocalor?" asked Eddy.
"His Blaze ability must have activated! Now his fire type attacks should be twice as strong now!" said Edd.
"Sweet!" said Eddy. "Crocalor! Use Incinerate one more time!" Crocalor once again fights through paralysis and releases a highly powered-up ball of fire which hits Teddiursa, doing super effective damage, shattering its Tera Form, and knocking it out.
"Teddiursa is unable to battle. Crocalor is the winner. That means the winner of the battle is the challenger, Eddy." said the referee as he waves his hand towards Eddy.
"I won?" asked Eddy. A big smile suddenly appears on his face. "I WON!" Eddy runs up to Crocalor and hugs him. "You were awesome, Crocalor!" Crocalor weakly smiles at Eddy. Katy returns Teddiursa to its pokeball.
"You did a splendid job, Teddiursa. Take a good rest." said Katy. She puts Teddiursa's pokeball into her apron and walks over to Eddy. "As the victor, you have earned the Cortondo gym badge." Katy reaches into her apron and pulls out a badge with a bug design on it. She hands it, along with some pokedollars, to Eddy who happily accepts them.
"Sweet!" said Eddy. He turns to Ed and Edd and holds out his gym badge. "Check it out, boys! I got my first gym badge!"
"Congratulations, Eddy." said Edd. Ed runs up to Eddy and hugs him.
"You did good, Eddy!" said Ed.
"Thanks, Ed. Now would you let go of me?" said Eddy. After Ed lets Eddy go, Katy looks at the Eds.
"And also, allow me to give you some free cupcakes as an added bonus for your victory." said Katy. The Eds smile in response.
"Oh boy!" said Ed.
"Delightful!" said Edd.
"Free?! Well the price is right, so why not?" said Eddy. A few minutes later after Eddy dropped off his Pokemon at the Pokemon Center, the Eds were sitting at a table on one of the tree's terraces, eating a platter of cupcakes.
"YUMMY!" said Ed as he shoves an entire cupcake into his mouth.
"These are quite delectable." said Edd as he takes a small bite of the cupcake he had.
"I can't believe she gave us these for free; not that I'm complaining." said Eddy as he takes a bite of the cupcake he had. After they were done eating, they go to the Pokemon Center and wait for Eddy's Pokemon to be healed. Once they were, Eddy got them back and they notice it was starting to get dark out.
"I think it's almost time for bed, gentlemen." said Edd. Ed yawns in response.
"I'm pooped." said Ed.
"Yeah. I could use some sleep." said Eddy. The Eds set up their tent, got into their sleeping bags, and went to sleep.
