Onward to Cortondo

While the Loud sisters, Leonard, Clyde, Ronnie Anne, Bobby, and Sam were sailing towards Paldea; Lincoln was busy in the South Province Area Two, doing some training and catching more Pokemon for his collection. He caught several Pokemon for his collection such as a Smoliv, a Tinkatink, a Maschiff, a Sunkern, and a Combee. While he was catching all these Pokemon, he trained up the Pokemon he currently had with him right now. He had his Pokemon battle the types of Pokemon his had advantages over. He had Fuecoco, Scatterbug, Tarountula, and Fletching mainly battle Smolives due to them being grass type Pokemon; his Hoppip was mainly going against Digletts due to Hoppip being a combination grass and flying type, each of those types having advantages over them in their own way; and he had Pawmi mostly battle water types that can be found there such as Psyducks. During the training, his Fuecoco learned Bite, and Incinerate; his Tarountula learned Feint, and Bug Bite; his Hoppip learned Poison Powder, Stun Spore, and Sleep Powder; his Pawmi learned Charge, and Nuzzle; and his Fletchling learned Ember. While he was training his Scatterbug, Lincoln saw something new; his first evolution.

Flashback:

"Okay, Scatterbug. Use Tackle." said Lincoln. Scatterbug charged at the Smoliv she was battling and rams into it, knocking it out. "Awesome work, Scatterbug." Scatterbug looks back at Lincoln and nods. All of a sudden, Scatterbug freezes up and starts to glow. "Scatterbug? What's wrong with you?" When the glowing stopped, Lincoln saw that Scatterbug's body now looked like it was covered in some sort of white fur with black, yellow, and red specks; and the three hairs that were originally on its head were gone. "Wait a minute. Scatterbug; did you evolve?" Lincoln pulls out his Rotom Phone and points it at his evolved Scatterbug.

"Spewpa, the Scatterdust Pokemon, and the evolved form of Scatterbug. If Rufflet attacks this Pokemon by pecking at it, it will retaliate with its sharp fur and poisonous black powder." said the Rotom Phone.

"This is so cool. I've learned about evolutions in class, but I've never actually seen one before." said Lincoln. "This says you now know Protect, and that you now have the Shed Skin ability, which can cure you of any status condition. Let's do some more training!" After a bit more training for Spewpa, Lincoln soon sees his second evolution. Spewpa evolved into a butterflylike Pokemon with green wings. Lincoln pulls out his Rotom Phone and points it and the new Pokemon.

"Vivillon, the Scale Pokemon, and the final evolved form of Scatterbug. The patterns of this Pokemon depend on the climate and topography of the land it was born in. This form is from a mysterious land." said the Rotom Phone.

"This...is...AWESOME!" said Lincoln.

End of Flashback:

Afterwards, Lincoln continued to train his Pokemon for a while longer. It was soon starting to get a little late, so he decides to make his Pokemon and himself some dinner. He laid out his picnic supplies and made everyone some ham sandwiches. As he and his Pokemon ate, he hears some rustling from the grass. He looks over and sees a brown, doglike Pokemon with a ruff of white fur with dark pebbles around its neck walking out the grass. Lincoln takes out his Rotom Phone and points it at the Pokemon.

"Rockruff, the Puppy Pokemon. This Pokemon is very friendly when it's young. It's disposition becomes vicious once it matures, but it never forgets the kindness of its master." said the Rotom Phone. Lincoln notices it was walking really slow and had trouble keeping its balance. Lincoln quickly walks over to it.

"Are you okay, Rockruff?" asked Lincoln. He hears growling. At first, Lincoln thought it was Rockruff growling at him, but realized it was its stomach. "Are you hungry?" Rockruff whimpers and nods. Lincoln quickly ran to the picnic table and quickly made another ham sandwich. He runs over to Rockruff and holds out the sandwich close to its mouth. The Rockruff sniffs the sandwich, then takes a bite out of it. After swallowing, the Rockruff barks happily and begins eating the rest of the sandwich until it was gone. "How do you feel now, Rockruff?" The Rockruff barks happily and pounces on Lincoln, knocking him to the ground and begins licking his face, making him laugh. Lincoln looks at Rockruff. "You're a friendly little guy, aren't you?" Lincoln says to Rockruff. 'Unlike that traitor, Charles.' Lincoln was refering to the Loud family's dog, Charles. When Lincoln was kicked out of the house months ago, he tried asking Charles if he could crash with him in his doghouse for a while, but Charles just growls and kicks him out. After all the times Lincoln let him sleep on his bed, this is how Charles repays him? By abandoning him when he needed him. Man's best friend? Yeah, right! Rockruff sees Lincoln with an upset look on his face as he recalled what Charles did. Rockruff nuzzles Lincoln's leg, snapping him back to reality. Lincoln looks down at Rockruff and sees a worried look on its face. "I'm fine, Rockruff. Just thinking of a bad memory." Rockruff's expression eased a little bit. "It's nice to know that some living creatures care about my feelings." Lincoln looked up to the sky and saw the sky was dark with the stars out. "It's getting late. Time to turn in for the night." Lincoln then set up his tent and returned his Pokemon to their pokeballs. Lincoln enters his tent, puts on his pajamas, gets into his sleeping bag, and drifts off to sleep. While he was sleeping, Rockruff walks inside the tent and lays down next to Lincoln. Soon, the sun was starting to rise. Sunlight came into the tent and landed on Rockruff's face, waking it up. The Rockruff looks around, wondering where it was when he remembered Lincoln and how he fed it. Rockruff jumps onto Lincoln's chest and begins licking his face, waking him up and making him laugh. "Charles, quit it." He opens his eyes and sees Rockruff. "Oh, it's you, Rockruff. Were you sleeping in here?" Rockruff nods. Lincoln smiles and scratches Rockruff's head, making it pant happily. "You want something to eat, Rockruff?"

"Ruff." Rockruff replied, happily. Lincoln climbs out of his sleeping bag, making Rockruff jump off him. Lincoln changes into his school uniform and walks out his tent with Rockruff following him. Lincoln lets his Pokemon out of their pokeballs. Lincoln made jam sandwiches and gave his Pokemon and Rockruff each one and had one for himself. Rockruff ate its sandwich happily until it was gone and he licked some jam that was around its mouth off. After breakfast, Lincoln packed up his tent and picnic set and returned his Pokemon to their pokeballs. He turns to Rockruff.

"It was nice hanging with you, Rockruff, but I have to get going." said Lincoln. Rockruff walks over to Lincoln and nuzzles his leg, whimpering. "Don't worry, maybe I'll come back and visit you." Rockruff looks at Lincoln and whimpers. "Unless of course, you want to come with me." Rockruff barks happily and jumps up and down, making Lincoln smile. He reaches into his backpack and pulls out an empty pokeball. He enlarges it and taps Rockruff on the head with it. Rockruff gets sucked into the pokeball and after it wiggles around for a couple of seconds, it stops and clicks. "Yeah! I caught a Rockruff." Rockruff's pokeball glows white and vanished. "That's too bad, I really wanted to get to know Rockruff. Wait. I can use my Rotom Phone to send one of the Pokemon I have with me to storage and put Rockruff in its place." He uses his Rotom Phone to transfer Vivillon to storage and transfers Rockruff in her place. Lincoln takes out his Rotom Phone to learn more his new Rockruff. "Okay, its say here Rockruff is a boy, he knows Tackle, Leer, Sand Attack, and Double Team. It has the Own Tempo ability, which prevents him from being afflicted with the confusion status condition, and it also blocks the Intimidate ability from opposing Pokemon. Cool." He spent over an hour training his new Rockruff by mostly battling Yungooses because their normal type attacks didn't do much damage to him; and soon, he learned Rock Throw and Howl. After Rockruff learned Rock Throw, Lincoln had him battle flying types. He also trained his other Pokemon as well. As he trained his Pokemon, he was approached by another student from Naranja Academy.

"Excuse me. I was wondering if you would like to have a Pokemon battle with me." said the student.

"Sure, I'd be glad to." replied Lincoln. Soon, Lincoln and the student were standing several feet from each other. The student pulls out a pokeball from his pocket.

"Come out, Scatterbug." said the student, throwing the pokeball and releasing a Scatterbug.

"I choose you, Fuecoco." said Lincoln, throwing Fuecoco's pokeball and releasing him. "Alright, Fuecoco, use Ember." Fuecoco opens his mouth and unleashes small balls of fire from it and they hit Scatterbug, causing super effective due to fire type attacks being strong against bug types. Scatterbug falls to the ground unconscious.

"No! Scatterbug!" exclaimed the student.

"Good work, Fuecoco." said Lincoln. The student returns Scatterbug to its pokeball. He puts it in his pocket and he pulls out another pokeball.

"All right, Drifloon, let's go." said the student, throwing the pokeball and releasing a Pokemon that resembled a purple balloon with eyes. Lincoln takes out his Rotom Phone and points it at the new Pokemon.

"Drifloon, the Balloon Pokemon. It is whispered that any child who mistakes Drifloon for a balloon and holds on to it could wind up missing." said the Rotom Phone.

"Okay, Drifloon, use Astonish." said the student. Drifloon flies over to Fuecoco and makes a scary face at him, frightening him and hurting him.

"Okay, Fuecoco, use Bite." said Lincoln. Fuecoco leaps at Drifloon while his teeth were glowing and he bites onto Drifloon, causing super effective damage. Drifloon begins floating towards the ground.

"Drifloon, use Gust." said the student. Drifloon unleashes a gust of wind which hits Fuecoco and knocks him back a little.

"Fuecoco, use Ember." says Lincoln. Fuecoco uses Ember on Drifloon, hitting it and doing enough damage to knock it out. "Fuecoco, you did it!" As Fuecoco looks back at Lincoln with a smile, he suddenly froze up and glowed. Lincoln realized quickly that Fuecoco was evolving. When the glowing stopped, Fuecoco was bigger, his snout was longer, his chest was white, yellow, and black, and on his head was a mass of fire energy shaped like a nest and on it was what appeared to be a yellow, egg-shaped fireball. Lincoln pulls out his Rotom Phone and points it at his newly-evolved Fuecoco.

"Crocalor, the Fire Croc Pokemon, and the evolved form of Fuecoco. The combination of Crocalor's fire energy and overflowing vitality has caused an egg-shaped fireball to appear on the Pokemon's head." said the Rotom Phone.

"Awesome!" said Lincoln. The student Lincoln was battling returned Drifloon to its pokeball. He then walks towards Lincoln and the two shake hands.

"That was a good battle. And congratulations on your Fuecoco evolving." said the student.

"Thanks." said Lincoln. After the student gives Lincoln some pokedollars, he heads for a Pokemon Center nearby. "At least he can take a loss maturely. Not like a certain sister I know back in Royal Woods." He looks at the Rotom Phone map app and notices that they were close to Cortondo, where Nemona said a Pokemon gym was located. "I'm almost to Cortondo. I can't wait to go to the gym and test my skill. For now, we'll do some more training." As Lincoln looked around for some wild Pokemon to battle, he notices beams of light shooting out of the ground. "I wonder what that is." Lincoln returns his Pokemon to their pokeballs and releases Koraidon. He climbs onto it and rides over to where the beams of light were. Soon, he arrived to where they were coming from and saw pillars of dark purple crystals. As Lincoln got close to them, a bright light shone out of the pillars, forcing him to cover his eyes. As the light dimmed, Lincoln finds himself in some sort of crystallized cavern looking at a crystallized yellow pokemon with brown stripes and a green sprout coming out of its head. Also coming out of its head was what appeared to be a crystal shaped like a ghost. Lincoln takes out his Rotom Phone and points it at the new Pokemon.

"Sunkern, the Seed Pokemon. It suddenly falls out of the sky in the morning. Knowing it's weak, it simply feeds until it evolves." said the Rotom Phone. Lincoln looks at the picture of Sunkern on the Rotom Phone with confusion.

"This Sunkern doesn't look like the one in the photo." said Lincoln. He suddenly remembers when Fuecoco Terastallized and he looked a little different, especially with that crystallized candelabra coming out of his head. "This must be a Tera Form Pokemon." The Sunkern looks at Lincoln with a glare. "I think this Sunkern is looking for a fight. I'll bet with that ghost-looking thing coming out of its head, it's a ghost type right now. I need to use either a ghost type or dark type move against it." Lincoln pulls out Crocalor's pokeball and releases him from it. "Okay, Crocalor. Use Bite." Crocalor opens his mouth and charges at Sunkern and sinks his teeth into it, doing super effective damage. It also caused the Sunkern to flinch. "Crocalor, let's try out your new Incinerate attack." Crocalor shoots a ball of fire out of his mouth and it hits Sunkern. Sunkern's crystallized skin suddenly shattered and it looked a little dizzy. "I don't think I have a Sunkern for my collection. I think I'll capture it." Lincoln takes out a pokeball and throws it at Sunkern. As the pokeball flies towards Sunkern, Lincoln notices that bits of crystal fly at it and make it spin. "What's going on with my pokeball?" Pretty soon, the pokeball becomes encased in a crystal orb. The crystallized pokeball then hits the Sunkern and sucks it in. The ball wiggles a few times and clicks, then returns to normal. Lincoln runs over to the pokeball and picks it up. "That was strange, but cool." Soon Lincoln finds himself back in the South Province. The crystal pillars suddenly disappear, leaving a variety of items behind such as some berries and a couple of pearls. Lincoln gathers the items up. "I think I can sell the pearls for some good money. Maybe I'll keep my eyes open for more of those crystal pillars." Soon, Sunkern's pokeball is teleported to storage. Lincoln then looks at his Rotom Phone to learn more about his new Sunkern. "Okay. My Sunkern is a girl, she knows Tackle, Growth, Absorb, and Mega Drain; and she has the Chlorophyll ability which increases her speed when sunlight is intense." As Lincoln looks around, he sees what looks like a small city. He looks at the map app on his Rotom Phone and sees he reached his destination: Cortondo.
