Cortondo Gym
Before Lincoln entered Cortondo, he stopped by the Pokemon Center just outside the city's limits to get his Pokemon treated. While the nurse was doing this, Lincoln decided to explore the city for a while. He took note of the stores that sold sandwich ingredients and made a note to buy some later after his gym battle. He also saw that a lot of the houses had in-ground pools which made him wish that his old home back in Royal Woods had one. As he explored, a delicious aroma hit his nostrils. He looked around to find the source of it and saw a bakery in front of a large tree that had a staircase going up and around it, leading to dining areas on some terraces built into the tree. On top of the tree was some sort of large platform. Lincoln couldn't really tell what was on it from down on the ground, but he can think about it later. He looks into the display case in front of the bakery and saw some of the most delicious-looking cupcakes he's ever seen. He drooled at the sight of them.
"Holy moley. Those look so good." said Lincoln.
"Thank you, young man." a woman's voice said from next to him. Lincoln turned and sees a woman with teal-colored hair and brown eyes. She wore a chef's outfit that consisted of a light gray blouse with matching hat and gloves. She wore a long brown skirt with matching ascot and an apron with a spider web design on it. Lincoln wiped off the drool that was on his chin.
"I'm sorry about that. But I couldn't help it. Those cupcakes really do look delicious." said Lincoln.
"That's quite all right, young man." said the woman. Lincoln takes note of her outfit.
"Are you a baker?" asked Lincoln.
"Yes I am. In fact, I'm the owner of this bakery. I call it Patisserie Soapberry." said the woman.
"Wow. Maybe I can buy some cupcakes for myself after I have my gym battle." said Lincoln.
"Oh. You're a trainer. But then I can tell by your attire that you're a student at Naranja Academy." said the woman.
"How did you know?" asked Lincoln.
"We always have students from there coming to Cortondo to challenge the gym. They also tend to buy pastries at my bakery." said the woman.
"Can't blame them for that." said Lincoln. "Anyway; do you know where the gym is?"
"If you look behind you, you can see the Pokemon League building." said the woman. Lincoln does so and sees a building with a pokeball design on it.
"Oh. Thank you, ma'am." said Lincoln.
"You're quite welcome. And good luck in your gym battle." said the woman. Lincoln turns around and runs to the building; all while the woman watches him with a smile on her face. Lincoln soon enters the building and is surprised to see Nemona was there.
"Hi, Nemona." said Lincoln. Nemona turns around and smiles when she sees Lincoln.
"Lincoln!" says Nemona as she runs over to Lincoln. "I'm so glad that you came here. Are you here to challenge the gym?"
"Yeah. This will be my first gym battle." said Lincoln.
"I'm so happy that you decided to try going for the Pokemon League. We're gonna have so much fun." said Nemona.
"I can't wait!" says Lincoln.
"Anyway, I already have the gym badge here. So I don't need to have a gym battle. But I hope you win yours and make it to the Pokemon League." said Nemona.
"So do I." said Lincoln.
"Well I'm off to do some training for the Pokemon League. I hope to see you soon." said Nemona. She then exits the building, leaving Lincoln by himself. Lincoln turns to the front desk and walks up to it. A staff member who was behind it sees Lincoln approach.
"Are you here to challenge the gym, young man?" asked the staff member.
"Yes I am." said Lincoln.
"Very well. I need to see your Rotom Phone so I can get you registered." said the staff member. Lincoln hands the staff member his Rotom Phone and gets himself registered. "Let's see here; Lincoln Loud, Trainer ID number 031317." The staff member types all Lincoln's information into his computer. "That's all done. You are now registered."
"Thanks. Where do I go for my gym battle?" asked Lincoln.
"Before you can battle the gym leader, you'll need to pass the Gym Test." said the staff member.
"Gym Test? What's that?" asked Lincoln.
"The Gym Test is something trainers are required to do in order to challenge the gym leader." said the staff member.
"What do I have to do?" asked Lincoln.
"Your test here is The Olive Roll." said the staff member. "Olive production is a big part of life here in Cortondo. We've held the Olive Harvest Festival each years for generations to usher in bumper crops. To pass our Gym Test, you'll need to roll an olive-shaped all the way to the goal. Your effort should help ensure we get a great olive harvest next year too. The staffer over at the olive-rolling field will explain the rules to you in further detail. The field is just to the north of town. Now get out there and have some fun."
"Thank you. I will." replied Lincoln. He left the league building and went to the Pokemon Center to pick up his Pokemon who were fully healed. After that, Lincoln travelled north of Cortondo until he saw a fenced area with a massive wicker basket against one of the fences. He sees a woman in a blue suit standing near the fence. Lincoln walks over to her. "Excuse me, but is this the olive rolling field?"
"Why yes it is." replied the woman.
"Well I'm here for the Gym Test." said Lincoln.
"Very well. This Gym Test is all about stamina. You'll need to push with all you've got to get a large olive ball rolling and make it all the way to the end. Get the ball over various obstacles, then push it into the goal to clear the coast." said the woman.
"Okay." said Lincoln.
"So are you ready to start the Gym Test?" asked the woman.
"As I'll ever be." replied Lincoln.
"Great. Put in a wish for a good olive harvest, and roll, roll, roll away." said the woman. Soon, Lincoln found himself on top of a platform consisting of a few ramps. He observed the field and saw it paths with several small fences and small ramps, but what really got Lincoln's attention was the olive ball he had to roll which turned out was bigger than he is, but Lincoln couldn't back out now, he came for a gym battle, so he was determined to complete this test so he can get it. He ran down the ramps of the platform he was on and toward the olive ball and pushed it with everything he got. To his surprise, the olive ball, despite being bigger than Lincoln, was lighter than it looked. Despite that fact, pushing and maneuvering an olive-shaped ball was tougher than one would expect. Lincoln maneuvered the ball through the course and soon reached a large wicker basket which Lincoln assumed was the goal. Lincoln pushed the olive ball over to the wicker basket and pushed the olive ball into it. As Lincoln was catching his breath, confetti shoots up from near the goal. The woman walks over to Lincoln.
"With that performance, I'm sure we can look forward to a great olive harvest next year." said the woman. "I'm happy to declare your Gym Test officially cleared. Congratulation."
"Thanks." replied Lincoln.
"Please report your result to the lobby staffer at the Gym. Good luck in your battle against Katy." said the woman.
"Yes, ma'am." said Lincoln. He soon returns to the Pokemon League building and goes to the front counter.
"Congratulations on completing the olive roll, Lincoln." said the staff member.
"Thanks. But I admit that pushing an olive-shaped ball wasn't easy." said Lincoln.
"Yes, well we like to make our Gym Tests challenging for all trainers." said the staff member. "I marked the location of the battlefield for your gym battle on your Rotom Phone. Report there and battle the gym leader." Lincoln looks at his Rotom Phone and was surprised to see the location of the battlefield was the Patisserie Soapberry bakery. Lincoln then recalled seeing a giant platform above the bakery earlier.
"Why's the gym battlefield above a bakery; and is the owner really okay with that? I guess I'll have to see when I get there." Lincoln asked himself. He exits the building and goes across the road to the bakery. He goes up the stairs and soon reaches the platform and sees a Pokemon battlefield on it. He was surprised when he saw the owner of the bakery standing on the center of it, talking to a Vivillon.
"Eat up, my cute Vivillon." said the woman, giving the Vivillon a pastry. The Vivillon eats it and twirls in delight. The woman then looks towards Lincoln. "Hello. You're the young man I met from earlier."
"Hi. Did you know about there being a battlefield above your bakery, ma'am?" asked Lincoln.
"Of course. I am the gym leader, after all." said the woman, surprising Lincoln.
"You're the gym leader?!" Lincoln replies.
"I'm sorry. I forgot to introduce myself. My name is Katy. I'm the Cortondo gym leader. But as you can tell, I also run the Patisserie Soapberry bakery on the side." said the woman now identified as Katy.
"My name is Lincoln Loud. I'm sure I already mentioned I'm here to challenge you to earn the Cortondo gym badge." said Lincoln.
"Yes you did, Lincoln. And I saw you complete the Gym Test from up here while I was enjoying some coffee and pastries from one of the terraces up here. You did really well on passing it." said Katy.
"Thanks. It wasn't easy." said Lincoln.
"Well it wouldn't be much of a test if it was." said Katy. "Now I believe we have a gym battle to start."
"I believe you're right." said Lincoln. The two go to opposite sides of the field and take their positions. The referee steps to the center.
"This will be a three-on-three battle between the gym leader, Ms. Katy; and the challenger, Lincoln Loud. Both trainers will battle until all of trainer's Pokemon are unable to battle. The trainer with any useable Pokemon after the battle ends is the winner. Let the battle commence." said the referee. The referee steps off the battlefield and Lincoln and Katy each pull out a pokeball.
"Nymble. Come on out, sweetie." said Katy as she throws her pokeball, releases a dark gray, grasshopperlike Pokemon. Lincoln pulls out his Rotom Phone and points it at the Pokemon.
"Nymble, the Grasshopper Pokemon. It has its third set of legs folded up. When it's in a tough spot, this Pokemon jumps over 30 feet, using the strength of its legs." said the Rotom Phone.
"Looks like Katy's a bug type trainer. My Rockruff and Crocalor should have an advantage against bug types, but I don't know what moves Katy's Pokemon have so I'll keep my guard up." said Lincoln. He throws Rockruff's pokeball, releasing him from it. "Okay, Rockruff. This is our first gym battle so be ready for anything." Rockruff looks back at Lincoln and barks in response. He looks towards Nymble, gets into a battle stance and growls at it.
"Nymble. Use Double Kick." said Katy. Nymble leaps at Rockruff and land two strong kicks at him, doing super effective damage.
"Oh, man. That was a fighting type move. Those are strong against rock types like Rockruff. I guess Katy took battling rock types into consideration when training her Pokemon. A wise move." said Lincoln.
"Aww. What a sweet thing to say. About as sweet as my pastries." said Katy. Lincoln looks at Rockruff.
"Can you still battle, Rockruff?" Lincoln asked Rockruff. Rockruff looks back at Lincon and nods. "Okay. Rockruff, use Rock Throw." Rockruff summons some rocks and launches them at Nymble, hitting it and doing super effective damage.
"Oh, dear. Nymble, use Double Kick again." said Katy. Nymble jumps at Rockruff to deliver another Double Kick, but Lincoln was ready.
"Hurry, Rockruff. Use Double Team." said Lincoln. Rockruff splits into four copies of himself. Nymble looks at them, trying to figure out which was the real one. It leaps at a copy and kicks it, only to have it disappear. "Wrong one. Now, Rockruff; use Tackle." All but one Rockruff disappeared and the remaining one, the real one, runs at Nymble and rams into it, sending it flying and landing at Katy's feet, unconscious.
"Nymble is unable to battle. Rockruff is the winner." said the referee. Rockruff howls in triumph.
"You did it, Rockruff!" said Lincoln. Katy returns Nymble to its pokeball.
"You did your best, Nymble. Take a good rest, sweetie." said Katy. She puts away Nymble's pokeball and pulls out another one. "Tarountula, come out, sweetie." Katy throws her pokeball, releasing a Tarountula. Lincoln sees that Rockruff still looked a little sore from the Double Kick from before.
"Rockruff. Are you sure you want to keep battling?" asked Lincoln. Rockruff looks at Lincoln and barks with a look of determination. "If you want to keep battling, I guess it's okay. But be careful." Rockruff nods in response.
"How sweet of you to care about your Pokemon." said Katy. "Now, Tarountula. Use Bug Bite." Tarountula leaps at Rockruff and opens its mouth.
"Rockruff, dodge it and use Tackle." said Lincoln. Rockruff leaps back and dodges Tarountula's bite, then he runs at Tarountula and hits it right in the face with a Tackle attack, knocking it back. "Hurry. Use Rock Throw again." Rockruff launches another barrage of rocks at Tarountula, doing super effective damage and knocking it out.
"Tarountula is unable to battle. Rockruff is the winner." said the referee.
"Good work, Rockruff." said Lincoln. Rockruff barks in response. Katy returns Tarountula to its pokeball.
"You did your best, Tarountula." said Katy. She puts away Tarountula's pokeball and pulls out her last one. "Your Rockruff is strong, Lincoln. But let's see it handle my strongest Pokemon." Katy throws the pokeball, releasing a small bear cub like Pokemon that has a crescent moon shaped mark on its forehead. Lincoln points his Rotom Phone at the Pokemon.
"Teddiursa, the Little Bear Pokemon. This Pokemon discreetly follow Combee to find their hive. It scoop up big dollops of honey in its palms to eat." said the Rotom Phone.
"I don't get it. Teddiursa isn't a bug Pokemon." said Lincoln.
"Not yet." said Katy as she pulls out a Tera Orb, surprising Lincoln.
"You have a Tera Orb?" asked Lincoln. Katy smiles and draws Teddiursa into the Tera Orb, then lets it back out. Teddiursa's body is now crystallized and now it has antennae coming out of its head.
"Now my Teddiursa is a bug type. Teddiursa, use Fury Cutter." said Katy. Teddiursa charges at Rockruff and slashes him with its claws, knocking him back. Rockruff struggles to stay on his feet.
"Rockruff, use Tackle." said Lincoln. Rockruff tries to run at Teddiursa to use Tackle, but it was too sore to move quickly enough.
"Teddiursa, use Fury Cutter once more." said Katy. Teddiursa slashes at Rockruff again, this time the attack looked stronger than before. "Fury Cutter's power increases whenever it hits it's target multiple times in a row." Rockruff tries to stay standing, but the damage he recieved was too much and he collapses.
"Rockruff is unable to battle. Teddiursa is the winner." said the referee.
"Good job, sweetie." said Katy. Teddiursa smiles at Katy in response. Lincoln runs over to Rockruff and picks him up.
"Rockruff. Are you okay?" Lincoln asked Rockruff. Rockruff opens his eyes and weakly nods. Lincoln smiles and strokes Rockruff's head. "That's good to know. I'll take you to the Pokemon Center after this battle." Lincoln then returns Rockruff to his pokeball.
"You're such a sweet trainer to care about your Pokemon." said Katy.
"My Pokemon are like family to me." said Lincoln. 'Not like my old family.' Lincoln shakes his head to keep himself focused on the battle. Katy looks at Lincoln with concern.
"Are you okay, Lincoln?" asked Katy.
"Don't worry. It's nothing to be worried about." said Lincoln. He pulls out another pokeball from his pocket. "Crocalor, come on out." Lincoln releases Crocalor from his pokeball and he stands ready. "Okay, Crocalor. Let's win this for Rockruff." Lincoln pulls out his Tera Orb and draws Crocalor into it and Terrastilizes him, surprising Katy.
"You have a Tera Orb as well?" asked Katy.
"Yep." said Lincoln.
"Teddiursa, use Fury Cutter on Crocalor." said Katy. Teddiursa runs at Crocalor with its paw raised.
"Crocalor, dodge it." said Lincoln. Crocalor jumps back and dodges Teddiursa's attack.
"Oh no. Fury Cutter returns to its normal power when it doesn't connect with its target." said Katy.
"Now, Crocalor. Use Incinerate!" said Lincoln. Crocalor releases a ball of fire at Teddiursa, hitting it and doing super effective damage, now that it was a bug type thanks to its' Tera Form. Also, thanks to Crocalor's Tera Form, the Incinerate attack was a lot more powerful. Teddiursa reverts back to its original form and passes out.
"Teddiursa is unable to battle. Crocalor wins. The winner of the battle is the challenger, Lincoln Loud." said the referee.
"Yes! Crocalor, we did it! We won our first gym battle!" said Lincoln. Crocalor hops up and down with joy. Katy returns Teddiursa to its' pokeball.
"You did an excellent job, Teddiursa. Take a good rest." said Katy. She walks up to Lincoln who was petting Crocalor's back. "You did a wonderful job training your Pokemon, and you care so much about them as well."
"Thank you, Ms. Katy." said Lincoln. She holds out a round badge with a bug-shaped symbol on it.
"I present you the Cortondo gym badge." said Katy. Lincoln takes the badge and looks at it, smiling. "Also, have a large serving of my deluxe handmade treats." said Katy as she hold out a tray of cupcakes. Lincoln takes one and bites into it. His eyes lit up with delight. Minutes later, Lincoln was standing outside Patisserie Soapberry with Katy, looking at a photo of himself and Katy; he was holding a cupcake in one hand and the badge in the other. He also had some frosting on his lips. "I hope your future adventures are as sweet and lovely as a good dessert. Off you go then, until we meet again." The two shake hands and go their seperate ways. A half hour later at the Pokemon Center, Lincoln was just getting his Pokemon back from the nurse.
"Your Pokemon are back to full health." said the nurse.
"Thank you, ma'am." said Lincoln. He leaves the area and lets out his Pokemon who stare up at him. Lincoln reaches into his backpack and pulls out seven cupcakes. "Here, guys. I saved each of you a cupcake." He hands each of his Pokemon a cupcake and they eat them to their delight. Lincoln then returns his Pokemon to their pokeballs. As Lincoln puts his pokeballs away, his Rotom Phone rings. He looks at the Caller ID and saw Nemona's name. He turns on video chat and sees Nemona's face. "Hey, Nemona. What's up?"
"Hey, Lincoln. How did your gym battle go?" asked Nemona. Lincoln holds out his Cortondo gym badge.
"I won." said Lincoln.
"Wow! Congratulations, Lincoln. You're one step closer to being able to compete in the Pokemon League tournament."
"I know. I'm gonna challenge the other gyms also, so I'll definitely be seeing you there." said Lincoln.
"I'm looking forward to it. See you later, I'm off to do more training." said Nemona.
"That makes two of us." said Lincoln. He ends the call and was about to put his Rotom Phone away when it started ringing again. He looks at the Caller ID and saw it was Kyle calling this time. He turns on the video chat and sees Kyle. "Hey, Kyle. What's up?"
"Dude. Remember those Titan Pokemon Arven told us about?" asked Kyle.
"The ones guarding those herbs Arven wants?" replied Lincoln.
"Yeah, those. We think we see one of them and I think we could use some extra help taking it out." said Kyle.
"Sure. Where are you?" asked Lincoln.
"I'll send you our coordinates. See you soon." said Kyle and he ends the call. Lincoln's Rotom Phone chimes. The map app appears on the Rotom Phone and Lincoln sees the northern part of an area called South Province Area Three marked, indicating Stan, Kyle, Cartman, and Kenny's location. "Don't worry, guys, I'll be there soon." He puts the Rotom Phone away and lets Koraidon out of his pokeball. Lincoln quickly hops onto Koraidon. "All right, Koraidon. Let's go." Lincoln rides Koraidon back to Mesagoza so they can ride through it so they can get to South Province Area Three so he can help his friends battle a Titan Pokemon.
