Artazon Gym
The next morning, Lincoln wakes up and sees Flabebe snuggled on top of his sleeping bag. He smiles as he remembered capturing her the previous day. As Lincoln climbs out of his sleeping bag, Flabebe suddenly wakes up.
"Morning, Flabebe. Did you sleep well last night?" asked Lincoln. Flabebe smiles brightly and nods. "That's good. Ready for breakfast?" Flabebe nods in response. After Lincoln got dressed, they step out of the tent and Lincoln lets out the rest of his Pokemon. "Morning, everybody." His Pokemon smile in response. After a breakfast consisting of jam sandwiches and orange juice, Lincoln looks at his Rotom Phone's map to review where Artazon is located. After seeing it was a little further east, Lincoln puts his Rotom Phone away and packs up his tent and picnic supplies. Instead of returning all his Pokemon to their pokeballs, Lincoln decides to let them walk with him to Artazon, much to their delight. Lincoln and his Pokemon started to walk further east and Lincoln took the time to train some more in preparation for his gym battle. He mainly focusing on training his Flabebe due to the fact he just captured her. During the training, Flabebe learned Razor Leaf. His Hoppip who already knew Splash, Tackle, Tail Whip, Absorb, and Fairy Wind, learned Poison Powder, Stun Spore, Sleep Powder, Bullet Seed, and Synthesis. Also, something else happened with her, she evolved into Skiploom. His Fletchling who already knew Growl, Peck, and Quick Attack, learned Ember and Flail. He also evolved into Fletchinder. Pawmo learned Bite, and Spark, His other Pokemon also got a bit stronger as well. Lincoln then decides to send Skiploom and Fletchinder to storage. Lincoln also did some Tera Raid battles and caught a Surskit, Venonat, Ralts, and Swablu for his collection. He also sent them to storage as well. He also found some valuable items from the Tera Raid battles as well. All on all, Lincoln was making good progress. It was around noon when he finally reached Artazon. As he and Pokemon walked closer to the gate, a flock of green parrot like Pokemon with black crests on their heads fly out in front of them and glare at them. "What are those Pokemon?" He pulls out his Rotom Phone and points it at one of the Pokemon.
"Squawkabilly, the Parrot Pokemon. These Pokemon prefer to live in cities. They form flocks based on the color of their feathers, and they fight over territory." said the Rotom Phone.
"What's wrong with them? Why are they staring at us?" said Lincoln. Then he recalled what the Rotom Phone said about them being territorial. All of a sudden, the Squawkabillies fly at Lincoln and his Pokemon. "Pawmo, use Thunder Shock." Pawmo releases a blast of electricity which hits some of the Squawkabillies, but more kept on coming. Lincoln had all his other Pokemon battle the Squawkabillies as well. Out of the corner of his eye, Lincoln sees another Squawkabilly flying towards Pawmo from his blind spot with its beak pointing towards him. Lincoln recognized it as a Peck attack. Since his Pawmo was now part fighting type, Lincoln knew that Pawmo no longer had a strong resistance to flying type attacks. "Pawmo, look out!" Lincoln dives at Pawmo, grabs him, and gets him out of the path of Squawkabilly's attempted Peck attack. Pawmo looks at Lincoln with awe, realizing Lincoln helped him without any regard for himself. He then looks at the Squawkabilly that tried to cheapshot him, and he uses a Spark attack on it. All of a sudden, Pawmo started to glow. Lincoln sees this and realizes that Pawmo was evolving. When the glowing stopped, he saw that Pawmo grew a bit more, his fur was a darker shade of orange, and the fur on top of his head and around his neck grew some more. Lincoln takes out his Rotom Phone and points it at his newly evolved Pawmo.
"Pawmot, the Hands-On Pokemon, and the final evolved form of Pawmi. This Pokemon is normally slow to react, but once it enters battle, it will strike down its enemies with lightning-fast movements." said the Rotom Phone. Lincoln looks at his new Pawmot with amazement.
"That is so awesome! And according to the Rotom Phone, you know a move called Revival Blessing which can revive an exhausted Pokemon on our team. That can really come in handy." The Squawkabillies look at Pawmot with a hint of nervousness in their eyes. They decided to make the safer decision and flew away. "Whoa. That was a close one. Good work, Pawmot. Pawmot gives him a thumbs up in response. Lincoln sees one of the Squakabillies on the ground, struggling to get up. Lincoln takes out an empty pokeball and throws it at the Squawkabilly and it gets sucked into the pokeball and is caught. "Squawkabilly is mine." Lincoln takes out his Rotom Phone to learn more about his new Squawkabilly. "Okay, Squawkabilly is male, he knows Growl, Peck, Mimic, Quick Attack, and Torment. He has the Intimidate ability also." Lincoln decides that his Pokemon did a lot of work for the day and puts them back in their pokeballs. He enters Artazon and stops by the Pokemon Center and to drop off his Pokemon, and also sell the stuff he got from the Tera Raid battles. He also stocked up on pokeballs, potions, and status-condtion cures. While his Pokemon were being healed, he takes the time to explore the city. It was a lot bigger than Cortondo with more stores. But what really made Artazon stand out was all the sculptures everywhere. Lincoln was fascinated by all of them. As he looked at an inscription at the base of the sculptures, he saw that they were all made by someone named Brassius. "Hmm. I wonder who this Brassius person is?" A woman who was standing near Lincoln hears his question.
"Oh. Brassius is the Artazon City Gym Leader." said the woman, surprising Lincoln.
"Really?" replied Lincoln.
"Oh, yes. He works on sculptures when he's not battling challengers at the gym." said the woman.
"That sounds interesting." said Lincoln. The woman takes note of Lincoln's attire.
"Pardon me for asking but are you a student at Naranja Academy?" asked the woman.
"Yes. I take it you recognize my uniform." said Lincoln.
"Yes. Do you know a Mr. Hassel?" asked the woman.
"He's my art teacher at Naranja Academy. Why do you ask?" asked Lincoln.
"He and Brassius have a history together." said the woman.
"Really?" replied Lincoln.
"Yes. In fact, he helped inspire Brassius's Surrendering Sunflora statues that you see all over the city." said the woman.
"Wow. That's so cool." said Lincoln.
"Indeed. At the time of its creation, Brassius was deathly ill and had given up hope of ever recovering; even prepared to give up being an artist if his Surrending Sunflora work didn't get proper recognition." said the woman.
"Is Brassius still not feeling well?" asked Lincoln.
"No, he's just fine now. Back then, despite feeling his worst, Mr. Hassel was there to encourage him, which gave Brassius the strength to start the project in the first place." said the woman.
"Wow." said Lincoln.
"He also made an installation of statues called "The Harvest" that can also be found around the city." said the woman.
"I'll definitely look at them later after my gym battle. Speaking of which, do you know where the Pokemon League building is?" asked Lincoln.
"Certainly. It's right over there." said the woman, pointing to the League building.
"Oh. Thank you, ma'am." said Lincoln.
"You're welcome." said the woman. Lincoln stops by the Pokemon center and picks up his Pokemon. He then goes to the building and enters the lobby. He was surprised when he sees Nemona standing inside. Nemona turns around and sees Lincoln.
"Wow, Lincoln. What a surprise to see you here." said Nemona.
"Well, I am challenging the gyms to enter the Pokemon League, so me being here shouldn't be that surprising." said Lincoln.
"Heh, Heh. Good point, Lincoln." said Nemona. "But look at your Pokemon. They look like they got a bit stronger."
"I've been training extra hard for my future gym battles." said Lincoln.
"Good. I want you to be as strong as possible for when we eventually face each other at the Pokemon League." said Nemona. "Anyway, I'm gonna go train some more. I hope you win your gym battle." Nemona then leaves the building. Lincoln turns to the lobby receptionist and walks over to her.
"Hi. I'm here to challenge the gym leader." said Lincoln.
"Very well. Let me get you registered." said the receptionist as she types Lincoln's data onto her computer. "There you go. You're registered for your match."
"Thank you, ma'am." said Lincoln.
"But before you can battle the gym leader, you must complete the gym test." said the receptionist.
"What's the gym test?" asked Lincoln.
"Just a game of Sunflora Hide-and-Seek." said the receptionist. "As you know, Artazon is a city of artists. The artwork made by the people here is largely inspired by nature and the sun that nurtures it. Since Sunflora embody these concepts, we try to gather them and take good care of them. Your test is to find all the Sunflora located throughout Artazon. And remember, they look like sun-shaped flowers. Gather up ten of them and bring them to the Sunflora Lawn, and you pass the test. I'll send the Sunflora Lawn's location to your map app to start your test."
"Yes, ma'am." said Lincoln.
"The Sunflora Lawn is to the right when you exit this building. It's a fenced-in area with two large Sunflora statues in front of the gate." said the receptionist. Lincoln exits the building and starts his search.
"This should be easy. I've spent years playing hide-and-seek with my sisters, so I have plenty of experience." said Lincoln as he thought back to his younger days, before the 'Bad Luck incident.' Lincoln shakes his head to get himself back to the present. Lincoln looks all over the city for the Sunflora. It was ten minutes later when he found the last one. He led them all back to the Sunflora Lawn and leads them inside. After that, a Pokemon League employee goes up to him and congratulates him on completing his test. She tells Lincoln to report to the Pokemon League building for further instructions. Lincoln does so and reports to the receptionist.
"I see you collected all ten Sunflora and brought them to the Sunflora Lawn. That means that you pass the test." said the receptionist. "Are you ready to battle Brassius, the Verdant Virtuoso?"
"Yes I am." said Lincoln.
"Then allow me to show you to the battle court." said the receptionist. She leads Lincoln out of the building and onto a large platform that was at the center of town. On it were several hedges with flowers on it and a windmill.
"Greetings, challenger!" a voice rings out from above him. Lincoln looks up and sees a man with green hair, purple jacket, black pants and shoes, and a thorn whip standing on one of the windmill's blades. The man jumps off and lands in front of Lincoln. "You did well to come this far. I am Brassius, an artist specializing in grass type Pokemon. I am also the Gym Leader here at the Artazon gym." said the man now revealed to be Brassius, the Gym Leader.
"My name is Lincoln Loud. It's a pleasure to meet you." said Lincoln. Brassius looks at Lincoln with a stunned look on his face.
"Lincoln Loud? I've heard that name before. Do you know Mr. Hassel?" asked Brassius.
"He's my art teacher at Naranja Academy." said Lincoln.
"Incredible. In recent weeks when I talk to him, he always spoke highly of you as a student. He's shown me your work and I must admit that I'm impressed by it." said Brassius.
"Thank you. It's an honor to be complimented by you, sir." said Lincoln.
"Please. You can call me Brassius." said Brassius. "I was watching you complete your Gym Test from up on the windmill. The perception you displayed in finding Sunflora was truly...how should I describe it? Oh, yes; avant-garde!"
"Thanks. I think." said Lincoln.
"I only pray that you might demonstrate that eye for beauty in our battle as well." said Brassius. "But enough talk. We must begin creating our collbarative work of art!" He and Lincoln then both walk to opposite sides of the battle court. On one side of the arena, a staff member is standing.
"This is an official gym battle between Brassius, the gym leader and Lincoln Loud, the challenger. Each trainer will use three Pokemon. The battle will end when one trainer's Pokemon are unable to battle. Let the match begin. Lincoln and Brassius each take out a pokeball.
"Petilil, come out." Brassius throws a pokeball and releases a light green Pokemon that resembles a plant bulb. Lincoln takes out his Rotom Phone and points it at the Pokemon.
"Petilil, the Bulb Pokemon. The leaves on its head grow right back even if they fall out. These bitter leaves refresh those who eat them." said the Rotom Phone. Lincoln looks at the pokeball in his hand.
"Let's see how you do in battle. I choose you, Squawkabilly." said Lincoln, throwing Squawkabilly's pokeball and releasing him. "Okay, Squawkabilly. I know I haven't had a chance to train you; but I really need your help here." Squawkabilly looks back at Lincoln, nods and turns to look at Petilil and glares at it while emitting a black aura. "Looks like Squawkabilly's Intimidate ability has activated." Lincoln looks at Petilil and to his surprise, Petilil looked unaffected. "Hey. Why doesn't it look like Intimidate's working?"
"Because my Petilil has the Own Tempo ability." replied Brassius.
"I know that ability. It prevents the Pokemon with that ability from being confused and it also blocks Intimidate."
"Exactly." said Brassius.
"Well, we won't let that stop us." said Lincoln. "Okay, Squawkabilly, use Quick Attack." Squawkabilly flies at Petilil with incredible speed and rams into it, knocking it back.
"Petilil, Stun Spore." said Brassius. Petilil releases an orange powder from the leaves on its head and onto Squawkabilly. Squawkabilly begins shuddering.
"Oh man. Squawkabilly's paralyzed." said Lincoln. "Squawabilly, try using Peck." Squawkabilly tries to fly into the air, but paralysis kicks in.
"Petilil, Mega Drain." said Brassius. A green stream of energy shoots out of the leaves on Petilil's head, and it wraps around Squawkabilly, but not doing much damage to him, due to Mega Drain being a grass type move, which aren't effective against flying type Pokemon. Some of Petilil's wounds heal.
"Try Peck again." said Lincoln. Squawkabilly fights through paralysis, and he pecks Petilil, causing super effective damage, due to flying type moves being strong against grass type Pokemon. "Now, Squawkabilly, Quick Attack." Squawkabilly flies at Petilil with incredible speed and rams into Petilil.
"Petilil, Magical Leaf." said Brassius. Petilil spins around and releases glowing green leaves and they hit Squawkabilly, but not doing much damage to him.
"Squawkabilly, use Peck one more time." said Lincoln. Squawkabilly flies at Petilil and pecks it. It falls to the ground with swirly eyes.
"Petilil is unable to battle. Squawkabilly wins." said the staff memeber.
"Great work, Squawkabilly." said Lincoln. Brassius returns Petilil to its pokeball.
"You were marvelous, Petilil. You rest up now." said Brassius. He puts Petilil's pokeball away and pulls out another. "Smoliv, come out." He throws the pokeball and releases a Smoliv. "Smoliv, Flail." Smoliv leaps at Squawkabilly and swings its head, hitting Squawkabilly.
"Squawkabilly, Peck." said Lincoln. Squawkabilly tries to fly up, but paralysis kicks in again, stopping Squawkabilly from attacking.
"Smoliv, use Flail again." said Brassius. Smoliv leaps at Squawkabilly and hits him with its head again. Squawkabilly falls to the ground with swirly eyes.
"Squawkabilly is unable to battle. Smoliv is the winner." said the staff member.
"Magnificent, Smoliv." said Brassius. Lincoln returns Squawkabilly to his pokeball.
"You did good, Squawkabilly. I promise to spend time training you after I get you treated at the Pokemon Center." said Lincoln. He puts Squawkabilly's pokeball away and pulls out another one. "I choose you, Crocalor." He throws Crocalor's pokeball and releases him. "Now, Crocalor, Bite." Crocalor leaps at Smoliv and bites into it. Bite causes Smoliv to flinch. "Now use Ember." Crocalor opens his mouth and releases small bits of fire and they hit Smoliv, causing super effective damage since fire type moves are strongs against grass type Pokemon.
"Smoliv, Flail." said Brassius. Smoliv hits Crocalor with its head, making him take a step back.
"Crocalor, Incinerate." said Lincoln. Crocalor opens his mouth and shoots a ball of fire out of it and it hits Smoliv, causing super effective damage. It falls to the ground, blackened and with swirly eyes.
"Smoliv is unable to battle. Crocalor win." said the staff member.
"You were awesome, Crocalor." said Lincoln. Brassius returns Smoliv to its pokeball.
"You did well, Smoliv." said Brassius. He puts Smoliv's pokeball away. "You may have beaten two of my Pokemon, Lincoln, but let's see how Crocalor does against my final Pokemon. Come out, Sudowoodo." He throws a pokeball and releases a tree like Pokemon.
"What is that?" asked Lincoln. He takes out his Rotom Phone and points it at the Pokemon.
"Sudowoodo, the Imitation Pokemon and the evolved form of Bonsly. Although it always pretends to be a tree, its composition appears more similar to rock than to vegetation." said the Rotom Phone.
"But Sudowoodo's a rock type Pokemon, not a grass type. Unless..." said Lincoln before he sees Brassius takes out a Tera Orb. "...he terastilizes it." Brassius throws the Tera Orb at Sudowoodo and crystal pillars rise up around it and they disappear and Sudowoodo now had crystal skin and had crystal flowers on its head. Lincoln takes out his Tera Orb. "If you're going to terastilize your Pokemon, then I'm going to do the same to mine, Brassius." He throws his Tera Orb at Crocalor and turns him into his Tera Form.
"Sudowoodo, Rock Throw." said Brassius. Sudowoodo releases rocks from its body and they hit Crocalor, doing super effective damage, due to rock type moves being strong against fire Pokemon.
"Crocalor, Incinerate." said Lincoln. Crocalor unleashes another ball of fire at Sudowoodo and hits it, doing super effective damage. To Lincoln's surprise, Sudowoodo was still standing.
"How is Sudowoodo still standing?" asked Lincoln.
"Thanks to Sudowoodo's Sturdy ability." said Brassius.
"I know that ability. It prevents a Pokemon with that ability from being knocked out in one hit." said Lincoln.
"Precisely. Sudowoodo, Rock Throw." said Brassius. Sudowoodo releases more rocks and they hit Crocalor, doing more super effective damage. Crocalor stuggled to remain standing.
"Crocalor, hang it there!" said Lincoln. Crocalor was suddenly surrounded by an orange aura. "Whoa. That must be Crocalor's Blaze ability. It powers up fire type moves when the Pokemon with the ability's stamina is low. Crocalor, Incinerate." Crocalor unleashes a bigger fireball from his mouth, and it blasts Sudowoodo. It returns to its regular form and passes out.
"Sudowoodo is unable to battle. Crocalor wins. The winner of this gym battle is the challenger, Lincoln Loud." said the staff member.
"You did it, Crocalor." said Lincoln. Crocalor then returns to his normal form. Brassius returns Sudowoodo to its pokeball.
"You were incredible, Sudowoodo." said Brassius. He puts Sudowoodo's pokeball away and walks over to Lincoln. "Your performance was a true work of art, Lincoln Loud."
"Thanks, Brassius." replied Lincoln.
"And for defeating me, I present you with the Artazon gym badge." said Brassius, giving Lincoln a badge that had a grass shaped symbol on it. Minutes later, Lincoln was standing near the Pokemon Center, looking at the Artazon gym badge in one hand and a photo of himself and Brassius standing back-to-back in front of a windmill in the other. Lincoln smiles and puts them in his backpack.
"Young man, your Pokemon are healed." said the nurse, holding out Crocalor and Squawkabilly's pokeballs.
"Thank you, ma'am." said Lincoln, taking the pokeballs. Lincoln takes out his Rotom Phone and turns on the map app. "Okay, the next nearest gym is in a place called Levincia. That's where my next badge is. I wonder how Stan and the others are doing. I'm sure they're doing fine. Now, off to Levincia." He releases Koraidon, hops on him and rides out of Artazon.
