Passing the Time
After everyone got done with the group hug, Lisa pulls her tracking radar out of her backpack and looks at it.
"What's that thing, Lisa?" asked Lincoln.
"My tracking radar. You see, several months ago, before your departure from Royal Woods, I put tracking chips in you, our siblings, and our parental units." said Lisa.
"You put a tracking chip in me?" replied Lincoln.
"Yes." said Lisa as she continues looking at the monitor on the device. "I don't understand why this isn't picking up a signal from your chip. Perhaps something happened to it." She puts the tracking radar away and pulls out another device. She aims it at Lincoln's chin and pushes the trigger, emitting a green beam of light onto Lincoln's chin. She looks at a tiny screen on the back of the device and the image of the tracking chip appeared on it. The screen showed that the tracking chip looked completely burnt. "Well no wonder I couldn't pick up your chip's signal. It's completely shorted out. What happened to it?"
"I'm not sure." replied Lincoln.
"Did you suffer any electrocutions during your time here?" asked Lisa. Lincoln remembers getting shocked by Pawmot back when he was a Pawmi on the day he arrived in Paldea.
"Yes. On the day I arrived here, I met my Pawmot back when he was a Pawmi. I scratched its chin and it shocked me." replied Lincoln. "That shock must've fried the chip."
"I see. That would explain why your chip isn't operational." said Lisa.
"Wait. If my tracking chip not working, how did you guys know I was here?" asked Lincoln.
"You see, several days ago, I partook in various online science lectures in foreign countries since no scientist in America will take me seriously as a scientist because of that superstition ordeal." said Lisa. "Anyway, I met with a Professor Sada online when I found out about Pokemon."
"Let me guess. It was because of her you found out about me being here." said Lincoln.
"Correct, Lincoln." said Lisa.
"Hey, Linc. What do you mean 'back when Pawmot was a Pawmi'?" asked Clyde.
"Another cool thing about Pokemon is that when some of them gain enough battle experience, they change into more powerful ones." said Lincoln. He takes out his Rotom Phone and puts up a picture of Pawmi and shows it to Clyde. "This is Pawmot back when he was a Pawmi." Clyde's eyes shined and he smiles.
"Aww. He was so cute." said Clyde. Lincoln then puts up a picture of Pawmo and shows it to Clyde.
"When he gained enough experience battling, he evolved into Pawmo." said Lincoln.
"Cool." replied Clyde.
"And sometime after that, he evolved into Pawmot, his final form." said Lincoln. "It's called Pokemon Evolution."
"That is so awesome." said Clyde.
"Fascinating." said Lisa. They then talked about what they were going to do next.
"So, what do you think, Lincoln; will you come back to Royal Woods?" asked Lori.
"Not right now." said Lincoln.
"Why not?" asked Luan.
"I'm still doing classes at Naranja Academy. Right now, I'm in the middle of my Treasure Hunt assignment." said Lincoln.
"Treasure Hunt?" asked Lola with interest.
"It's an independent study assignment where students explore the Paldea Region, seeing everything it has to offer." said Lincoln.
"Oh." said Lola with disappointment.
"Whoa. That sounds like fun." said Ronnie Anne.
"It is." said Lincoln. He goes on to tell them a lot of what he's been up to since his arrival in the Paldea Region; all the classes he's attended, his new friends, getting his first Pokemon, and what he's experienced so far during his Treasure Hunt (except everything involving Iono because of how he thinks his sisters will react). Everyone couldn't believe it when Lincoln told him about how two Paldeas from seperate universes have merged together and that almost everyone now had doubles of themselves.
"Remarkable how the energy of Pokemon has the capability of shattering the boundary between two alternate universes." said Lisa.
"I'll say." said Lincoln. "Right now; Professor Sada and Professor Turo are trying to figure out a way to seperate our universes and repair the boundary."
"Perhaps I can be of assistance to them in this endeavor." Lisa offered.
"I'm sure they'll take all the help they can get." said Lincoln.
"Sounds like you've been having quite the adventure my little minnow." said Leonard.
"Yeah." said Lincoln. He looks over at Lana who had an upset look on her face. "What's wrong, Lana?"
"I'm worried about Mom and Dad." said Lana. Lincoln remembers what Ronnie Anne told him about his parents being arrested. Lincoln sighs as he pulls out his Rotom Phone and it floats in front of him, surprising his sisters.
"What's that?" asked Lisa.
"My Rotom Phone." said Lincoln. "I got it a while back. It's a device that's inhabited by a Pokemon called Rotom. The Pokemon is part electric type and part ghost type." Lucy looked up in response to the ghost type part.
"What are you going to do?" asked Lana.
"Give me a few minutes." said Lincoln. "In the meantime, you can look at the Pokemon I have with me." He throws all his pokeballs and releases his Pokemon from them, surprising everyone. Lola looks at Lincoln's Floette with glee.
"This one is so cute!" said Lola.
"This one looks so beautiful." said Leni as she looks at Lincoln's Dragonair.
"This one looks so cool!" said Lana as she looks at Lycanroc who sniffs at her.
"This dolphin looking Pokemon looks friendly." said Sam, looking at Lincoln's Palafin.
"Just hope it's not like that porpoise that stole Dad's wallet at the aquarium that one time." said Luna. Lincoln walks off with Lily still clinging to his head and dials in a number on his Rotom Phone. A few minutes later, Lincoln returns to his friends and family who were still interacting with his Pokemon.
"These Pokemon are extraordinary!" said Lisa.
"They're so rad!" said Luna.
"So what were you doing, Lincoln?" asked Lana who was riding on Lycanroc's back.
"I just got off the phone with the Royal Woods Police Department." said Lincoln, surprising everyone.
"What did you do?" asked Lori.
"I somehow managed to get Mom and Dad off with just community service for them throwing me out onto the streets." said Lincoln. (Authors' Note: Like we said in the last chapter, Lincoln's too forgiving. Don't worry, his parents are not getting off easy, we can promise you that.)
"So Mom and Dad won't be going to prison?!" asked Lana with hope in her voice.
"They won't be going to prison." said Lincoln. Lana jumps at Lincoln, clings to his chest, and starts hugging him.
"Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!" said Lana as she started to cry. Lincoln pats Lana's head.
"I just hope they learned their lesson." said Lincoln.
"They definitely learned their lesson, bro." said Luna. Ronnie Anne looks over at Lincoln.
"So, what brought you to Porto Marinada?" asked Ronnie Anne.
"I came looking for the Cascarrafa gym leader, Kofu, so I can do my Gym Test." said Lincoln.
"You mean those tasks that you have to do to earn the right to battle the gym leaders to earn gym badges?" asked Lori.
"Yeah. I'm supposed to win something that Kofu wants in an auction that's supposed to start in about an hour." said Lincoln.
"That sounds simple." said Clyde.
"We'll see." said Lincoln. He then returns his Pokemon to their pokeballs and they continued walking on the beach. As they do, they talked about stuff that Lincoln told them about.
"So why do you need to collect gym badges, Lincoln?" asked Lana.
"To enter the Paldea Region Pokemon League Tournament." said Lincoln.
"Tournament?" asked Lynn.
"An annual competition for trainers all across Paldea to find out who the best trainer in Paldea is." said Lincoln.
"That sounds exciting." said Clyde.
"Yeah. I already have three badges so far. If I defeat Kofu in our gym battle, I'll have half the badges I need." said Lincoln.
"Well, if it's that important to you; then you'll have our support." said Lori. The other Loud Sisters voiced their support as well.
"Really?" asked Lincoln.
"Yes. Remember something I said a while back?" asked Lori.
"Stay out of your room?" replied Lincoln. Lori chuckles at Lincoln's response.
"No, but don't forget that either." said Lori. "You're only allowed in there for our sibling meetings."
"You're the oldest?" said Lincoln.
"No." said Lori.
"It was your shoe?" said Lincoln.
"NO! And it was my shoe!" said Lori, getting chuckles from the other Loud Sisters.
"You should just say it. You said a lot of things before." said Lincoln.
"Good point. What I said was that this family supports each other." said Lori.
"Oh, that." said Lincoln. Lincoln returned his Pokemon to their pokeballs and he and the others walked along the beach for a while to pass the time until the auction starts.
"So, all that stuff you told us about was everything you've been through since you got here?" asked Luan. Lincoln looks away with a blush and smile on his face as the memory of Iono kissing him came into his mind.
"Mostly." said Lincoln, getting everyone to stop and look at him.
"Mostly?" replied Lori.
"Is there something you didn't tell us?" asked Lola with her fists on her hips as she and the other Loud Sisters stared at Lincoln. Lincoln kept looking away as he pressed his index fingers together.
"What did you do, Lincoln?!" asked Lori.
"Hey! I didn't do anything illegal, or anything like that!" said Lincoln.
"Then spill it, bro. What are you hiding?" asked Luna. While the Loud Sisters stared at Lincoln in an attempt to get him to tell them what he's not telling them. Leonard, due to his life experience, recognized the body language Lincoln was showing and figured out his secret.
"Ohohohohoho." Leonard chuckled. The Loud Sisters, Ronnie Anne, Bobby, Clyde, and Sam looked at Leonard. Lincoln looks at him and sees a knowing smile on his face.
'Oh, man; did he figure it out?!' Lincoln asked himself.
"What is it, Gramps?" asked Lana. Leonard looks at Lincoln.
"Lincoln." said Gramps. Lincoln gasped in response. "You met a young lady, didn't you?" The Loud Sisters gasped in response as they looked back at Lincoln whose blush intensified, making Clyde, Bobby, and Sam look at him, while Ronnie Anne had a look of stunned shock on her face. Lincoln closes his eyes.
'Three...two...one...' Lincoln counted down in his head. Lincoln's sisters let out ear-piercing squeals as they gave him a group hug.
"O-M-Gosh! O-M-Gosh!" said Leni as she nuzzled the top of Lincoln's head.
"What's she like?!" asked Lola as she hugged one of Lincoln's legs.
"Tell us everything about her!" demanded Lori.
"I'll tell you if you let me go; I can't breathe!" said Lincoln. His sisters let him go and had him sit on one of the chairs that were on the beach.
"Don't keep us waiting, Lincoln." said Lola. Lincoln lets out a sigh.
"Okay." said Lincoln. "Her name is Iono, she's the Levincia gym leader, and also a very popular livestreamer here in Paldea."
"Really?" asked Lori.
"Do you like her?" asked Lana. Lincoln looked away with a blush and smile.
"Kind of." said Lincoln, making his sisters squeal with delight, and Ronnie Anne growl, getting Bobby's attention.
"Does she like you?" asked Luan with a grin. Lincoln pulls out his Rotom Phone and brings up the livestream video of his Levincia Gym Test, and his battle with Iono.
"Is that girl with the pink and blue hair Iono?" asked Luna.
"Yeah." said Lincoln with a smile.
"I love those hair accessories she's wearing. They totes match her hair." said Leni. As they watch the video, the smiles on the Loud Sisters' faces, along with their contained excitement, grew each time they hear Iono call Lincoln 'cutie'. When they saw Iono hug and kiss Lincoln, they couldn't contain themselves anymore and squealed with joy before engulfing Lincoln in another group hug. Clyde and Sam joined in also.
"Linky has a girlfriend!" said Leni.
"Way to go, buddy!" said Clyde.
"Rockin', dude." said Sam. They soon release Lincoln from the hug.
"Anything else, Lincoln?" asked Lori with excitement.
"She gave me her phone number." said Lincoln as he pulls out the photo album he kept his pictures from his Treasure Hunt in and shows them the photo of Iono hugging and kissing him. Upon seeing the phone number and message that Iono wrote on it, Lincoln became the victim of another group hug.
"She wants you, bro!" said Lynn.
"Definitely!" said Lana. Lincoln decides not to fight it and just lets his sisters hug him to their hearts' content, with him and his sisters being unaware that Ronnie Anne's teeth and fists were clenched with fury. A minute later, the group hug ends.
"So, what now?" asked Lana. Lincoln brings up the clock on his Rotom Phone.
"We have about fifteen minutes before the auction; let's just hang out for a while longer in the meantime." suggested Lincoln. As they walked some more, Lynn hears something moving towards them and she turns to see the Pokemon from earlier following her.
"Not you again!" yelled Lynn. Lincoln looks to see the Pokemon that was smacking Lynn around standing several feet from the group with its claws raised. Lincoln takes out his Rotom Phone and points it at the Pokemon.
"Crabrawler, the Boxing Pokemon. This Pokémon punches trees and eats the berries that drop down, training itself and getting food at the same time." said the Rotom Phone.
"You know this Pokemon?" asked Lincoln.
"That was the one that was smacking Lynn around we told you about, Linc." said Ronnie Anne.
"That thing got lucky." said Lynn. Lincoln glares at Lynn, surprising her. "What?"
"Never say the...L-word in front of me." said Lincoln through clenched teeth. Lily, who was still clinging onto Lincoln, also glared at Lynn. Lynn realizes that because of the bad luck incident, Lincoln hates the word 'luck'.
"S-Sure, Linc." said Lynn. Lincoln walked towards Crabrawler while pulling Skeledirge's pokeball out of his pocket.
"I'll take care of this Pokemon. I choose you, Skeledirge!" said Lincoln. He throws Skeledirge's pokeball and releases him. Crabrawler turn towards Skeledirge and raises its claws. "Skeledirge, Flamethrower!" Skeledirge opens his mouth and releases a stream of fire, and it hits Crabrawler.
"Whoa!" said Bobby. The others looked in awe. The Crabrawler leaps towards Skeledirge and swings its pincer at him, but it went right through his body, surprising Crabrawler.
"Why did that hit go through Skeledirge?" asked Sam.
"Skeledirge is part ghost type." said Lincoln. "Normal and Fighting type moves are useless against them. Skeledirge, let's try your new Torch Song!" The fiery bird on Skeledirge's nose hops off and has a rod extend out of the bottom of it and stands on its end so it looks like a microphone; Skeledirge then stands on his back legs and roars at the bird like he's singing into it, sending it flying towards the Crabrawler as it increases in size. It hits Crabrawler, causing a small fiery explosion, and knocking it to the ground. Lincoln takes an empty pokeball out of his pocket, enlarges it and throws it at Crabrawler, hitting it. Crabrawler gets sucked into the pokeball and after it wiggled around a few times, it clicks and stops, indicating Crabrawler's capture. "Oh yeah! Crabrawler is mine!" The others looked with shocked amazement at Lincoln's performance.
"Wow!" exclaimed Lana.
"That was the most amazing thing ever!" said Clyde.
"That was literally amazing." said Lori. Lynn walked over to Lincoln with a stunned look on her face.
"Since when could you throw that good?" asked Lynn. "You couldn't throw more than a few feet before."
"One of the things they had me practice at Naranja Academy was pokeball throwing." said Lincoln. "I figured if I'm going to be a Pokemon trainer, I might as well improve my throwing. Sure, my arm was sore after doing one handed push-ups for several days, but it was worth it."
"But why did you battle that Pokemon?" asked Leni. "Couldn't you just throw a pokeball at it?"
"Pokemon are easier to capture if you weaken them by battling them first." replied Lincoln. "There's a chance that a Pokemon can break free otherwise."
"Oh." said Leni.
"Sounds like there's a lot to learn about Pokemon." said Lana. Suddenly, Crabrawler's pokeball vanishes.
"Where did that pokeball go?" asked Lisa.
"Pokemon trainers can only have up to six Pokemon with them." replied Lincoln. "Any other Pokemon I capture will be transported to a storage area where they'll be kept, until I decide to exchange one of the Pokemon I currently have with me, with one I have in storage."
"They actually perfected teleportation here?!" asked Lisa.
"It would appear so." said Lincoln. Ronnie Anne walks over to Lincoln.
"Hey, Linc; I've been meaning to ask. Why did that boy you had a Pokemon battle with in the marketplace give you money?" asked Ronnie Anne, getting his sisters' attention.
"When two Pokemon trainers battle each other, the losing trainer has to give the winning trainer half their money." replied Lincoln. The others' jaws dropped.
"Sounds like being a Pokemon trainer is a fun way to earn some money." said Lola.
"Yeah. I gotta say, with all the cool stuff about being a Pokemon trainer, as well as Iono being here, returning to Royal Woods will be more difficult for me to do then you might think." said Lincoln. Ronnie Anne turns towards Lynn while punching her palm.
"Well, if Lincoln doesn't return to Royal Woods, that Crabrawler won't be the only one using you as a punching bag, Lynn." said Ronnie Anne. Lynn looks away while stepping back towards the others.
"Speaking of Crabrawler." said Lincoln, taking out his Rotom Phone. "According to this, my Crabrawler's a boy, he knows Vise Grip, Rock Smash, Leer, Bubble Beam, Protect, and Brick Break. He has the Iron Fist ability, which makes his punching moves stronger."
"That explains why that thing's hits were so hard!" said Lynn.
"So how do you like Naranja Academy, my little minnow?" asked Leonard.
"It's awesome. After my gym battle in Cascarrafa, I'll bring you guys to Mesagoza and give you a tour." said Lincoln.
"That sounds fun." said Clyde. Lincoln looks at his Rotom Phone's clock.
"Ten minutes until the auction starts." said Lincoln. "Let's head back to the marketplace and wait there."
"Okay, let's go then." said Luna. Lincoln returns Skeledirge to his pokeball. Lisa looks at the pokeball with interest.
"It's incredible how such a small device can contain such a large creature." said Lisa.
"I think pokeballs can convert Pokemon into energy and compress it enough to fit it inside them." said Lincoln.
"Fascinating." said Lisa. With that, the group heads towards the marketplace for Lincoln's Gym Test. On the way, Lori and Bobby look at the water and see the heart-shaped Pokemon from earlier following them.
"Lincoln? What are those Pokemon?" asked Lori. Lincoln looks and sees the Pokemon. He takes out the Rotom Phone and points it at them.
"Luvdisc, the Rendezvous Pokemon. Its heart-shaped body makes it popular. In some places, you would give a Luvdisc to someone you love." said the Rotom Phone. Lincoln watches as the two Luvdisc swim up and smile at Lori and Bobby.
"What's with these Luvdisc things?" asked Lori. LIncoln thinks for a second.
"I've learned a little about these Pokemon back at the academy. In some places, it's said that any couple meeting this Pokemon is promised a loving relationship that never ends." said Lincoln. Lori and Bobby look at each other and smile big.
"I love the sound of that." said Lori.
"Me, too." said Bobby as she and Lori held hands and looked into each other's eyes.
"That's enough, lovebirds. Let's get going." said Lynn.
"Way to spoil the moment, Lynn!" said Lori as she glares at Lynn. Sam looks at the water and sees two more Luvdisc swimming up to her and Luna. She taps Luna's shoulder, making her look to see the two Luvdisc looking up at them; she and Luna look at each other, then away with blushes on their faces. They hold each other's hands as they continued walking.
